Description of Work: I had Mike West review a potential property I was considering buying and would be in need of remodeling. I wanted to have a reasonable expectation of costs involved in getting the house to a status I would feel comfortable with and wanted to make an offer with remodeling in mind. Mike was punctual for the appointment, knowledgeable, and willing to share his expertise. I would definitely consider him for future major remodeling projects.

Description of Work: I wished to get a quote on a tear-down and replacement of tiles in the bathroom of a rental unit I own. While I stated that I believe in doing a repair job properly and avoided 'patching-type' jobs, I had no intention of renovating the entire bathroom as it was a rental investment. I provided an explanation of what I needed and asked to meet so he could give me a quote. He told me he already knew the cost and gave me an estimate that it would be between $1500-$2000, and that it would not vary from that. He insisted that the tiles would come from his suppliers, and was denigrating about anyone who deigns to use the Home Depot and the materials Home Depot sells. When I asked for two references I could call, he directed me to his firm's Website. His Web pages had testimonials, but I still wished to speak with two references via phone. He declined to meet me and said I am not 'a good fit' for his company. In summation, he was arrogant and left me with the sense that he knows better what I need than I do.

Response from West Construction
[removed member name] called our office because we were highly recommended by the building management and numerous customers living there. We always give our customers a ballpark price on the phone to help them in their decision making process, we feel its more efficient. Our suggestion of not using Home Depot was to purchase the materials as direct as possible from the manufacturer to save her as much money as possible. She wanted us to do something that was against our company policy. We suggested she call someone who will work with her the way she needed. We wished her the best.

I would like to highly recommend West Construction, LLC for your construction needs. I recently purchased a single family residence at a tax sale. I knew going into this project that extensive remodeling would be required. I contacted several contractors for estimates and conducted a review of their past history. Based on my due diligence, I selected West Construction. It was the best decision I ever made. Not only did they save time and money, they guided me through the pitfalls of a rehab project. Yes, we had some unexpected surprises, but these were mitigated through expert advice and project management planning. Their work, craftsmanship, and attention to detail truly reflect well on the owner Mike West and his team. Again, I highly recommend West Construction.
Description of Work: This was a complete remodeling of a single family residence that I purchased at a tax sale. This included gutting the kitchen and bathroom down to the studs, reinforcing joists, leveling house due one corner settling, painting, plumbing, electrical, windows, and siding.

Overall the experience was frustrating. The more we got into the project the more, it seems, their capabilities were overstated. They did not seem to want to deviate from their initial plan and were very inflexible when listening to our concerns about the initial layout. Also, some of the subcontractors that they used were unreliable. We were charged an "expediting" fee for logistical matters and ??? yet the project ran a month plus over budget and we were not compensated for that. Also, "expediting" seemed to be that we go to the store and select a fixture (or whatever), call the owner to have his guy go to the store the next day and buy it (at the same price we could have) and then mark it up by their percentage. We were told the floor would be made level in the new room (as the existing house had shifted and they did not want to make a crooked floor), however once we moved in we noticed the furniture was sloped and that the floor was indeed not level. When we told the owner he said that we could shim the furniture, but that was all they could do. The floor in the shower was set unevenly and water pooled in certain areas, causing them to come back out and redo it. However, now the water pools in a different area. They ripped up some flooring in a different room to install duct work, however they ripped up the wrong area, causing a hole in the flooring. Because the flooring was old, they could not find a replacement and were forced to take a section from another area that was hidden from plain sight. The painting sub-contractor didn't show up for several days in a row, with no one (not even the owner) knowing where he was. The glass sub-contractor needed a three-week lead time to order and install the glass for the shower, yet the project was done, other wise. So we had a nearly completed bathroom (except for the shower) that we couldn't use because the "expediting" didn't happen properly. Lastly, there was an interaction dealing with money that really broke our trust. They job was almost complete (or so I thought) and they asked to more money. I said I only wanted to write one more check to them that was all encompassing and was final. That couldn't happen because the guys needed to get paid, he was overdue on one of the invoices and they needed to get reimbursed for some incidentals. So I paid the invoice. A week or so later, the owner was joking with me and one of the guys on the job where he indicated that he still needed to pay the overdue notice! All in all it was very frustrating.
