First, I got 4 names off Angie's list that had good ratings (probably what you're doing right now...). This company's quote was the most affordable by far. All other things being equal, we lined them up to do the work. Norbert, the owner and the person who performed the work, was punctual, professional and completed the job early with excellent workmanship. Would definitely recommend them to others and hire them again.

Norbert (and his wife) were quick to respond to my request for a quote. Norbert came one evening as scheduled. I explained that I was looking to purchase my own materials, as I wanted the flooring to be from Baird Brothers. Norbert explained that he would purchase the materials, and he could do better on the price than what I would get. He seemed very knowledgeable and professional. My only issue was price - his price was more than 33% higher than the contractor I went with. As most of the installation quotes I received were within a similar range of one another, I have to believe a large chunk of this quote was built into an up-charge for the materials.

We loved Norbert as soon as we met him. He is a fair minded and very honorable man. He did our floors while we were away for Christmas and our neighbors said he was here on Christmas Day working as well. You don't find such dedication today. I can't thank Norbert enough and another big thanks also goes out to his charming wife Nora who followed up with us to make sure we liked the job and to check if there were any questions or problems. Very well! We love our new hardwood floors! We didn't know what to expect having worked with various contractors in the past we were very pleasantly surprised when Norbert was there and not only oversought the work but did the work too. He kept us informed of the processes the entire time, and took great pride in his very high quality work. We were also concerned about the dust having known the process to be dusty in the past but there was NO dust. There was also no horrible lingering odor from the finish - we were able to stay in the house overnight and didn't have any headaches. Norbert and Nora became like family and truly were very attentive to our every question and need. The process was very painless and easy, compared to what we thought it would be like. We look forward to working with them if we have future floor projects - we may install more flooring since this went so well!

Nora handles the logistics via telephone--very friendly and helpful. Norbert looked at the situation, took measurements, asked questions, and gave us an estimate within minutes. When he actually started the work, he discovered that there where thousands of tacks in the floor. He removed each one, patching the holes and smoothing the floor. The stairs required a lot of hand sanding, and he took some decorative pieces home to sand and stain, since he said it was easier than way. A couple times a day he asked me to look at what he was doing, explaining things and asking questions. He was able to eliminate most of the dark spots on the wood. I took his suggestions for stain color--he has good taste and knows what it will look like. His system truly is dustless--I had literally no cleanup to do. The job took 3 full days (for carpet removal and sanding) and three partial days for stain and polyurethane). The floors that he thought had been covered in carpet for 50 years are now gorgeous.

Norbert was wonderful and our floors look fantastic. From the quote process to the actual work Norbert was a joy to work with. He has an incredible work ethic and a passion for what he does. Every step of the way he made sure we knew what was going on and what would happen next. When we pulled up the carpet we found some bad wood. He repaired it in no time at all and barely charged us anything for it. He has top of the line equipment and is shows. He takes great care to keep your house clean. One of the best parts about his equipment is that it is DUST FREE. No more dust!! It all goes into a vacuum that sits outside your door. I can't tell you how great that was. I like to ask a lot of questions and he was more than happy to explain his technique, what works best with what type of wood, and he even answered all my questions about his alpacas. He has a very positive attitude, went out of his way to custom mix the polyurethane sealer to achieve just the right level of gloss we wanted. In addition, as he left he promised us that if we got and small nicks/scratches to call him and he'd be glad to come out and fix them. He also was very thorough in educating us on when we can bring furniture back in to the rooms, how to keep the floors safe from day-to-day wear, and how best to clean the floors. I really can't say enough good things about Norbert. He was on time, did a great job, cleaned up, was quick, and did it all for a great price. If you need floors refinished, or new floors installed call Norbert I guarantee you'll love him.

We had Norbert Haberbusch refinish the hardwood floors throughout our recently-purchased 1956 house, and he did an excellent job right up to every edge and corner. The job involved three bedrooms (including closets), a hallway, the living room, and dining area. In the living and dining rooms much of the original finish had completely worn off and the floorboards in these areas suffered from decades worth of ground-in dirt. The bedrooms had all been carpeted, and were therefore in better shape (aside from some areas that had been stained by cat urine). After Mr. Haberbusch was done, however, you would not know what poor shape the floors had been in prior to us buying the house. We were lucky enough to get this job scheduled before our move-in date because it seemed as if he was really busy juggling multiple jobs, and frequently had to change the day or time he came out to work on our floors. In our case, this worked to our advantage because he ended up completing our job sooner than expected, but if you are someone who has a particularly busy or inflexible schedule and are already living in the home where you are looking to get floors refinished these changes in scheduling could be a problem.

My house was built in 1949 and the floors were covered with carpet for the last 50 years. The floors were a mess - with pet stains, rust from old nails and general age spots. Norbert said he could take care of most if not all of the staining and marks which he did! They countersunk all of the old nails used to quiet squeeky floorboards and filled them prior to staining. They arrived promptly at the specified time each morning and actually worked 11 hours the first day to complete the sanding. Norbert and his associate were at all times professional, courteous and took the time to answer any and all questions I had. The price for the work completed I felt was fair and reasonable. In this day when it is very difficult to find companies to do a good job for you at a fair price - I believe Old World Carpentry has far surpassed my expectations and I am THRILLED at the results! My floors are so beautiful now that I am not putting the area rugs back down that I previously had down. I want everyone to see my floors!

From the moment Norbert walked into our home we knew he was the person for this job. He showed up ten minutes early for the estimate, he removed his shoes at the front door, without us asking him, and he had an estimate for this large project in our hands in 30 minutes. He inspired our confidence immediately. His knowledge about flooring and installation was incredible. Other companies that we had called before Norbert showed up late or not at all or we waited weeks for estimates. They also tried to tell us that we could have flooring installed over the weak and worn out particle board. Norbert knew this was not the way to tackle this floor and his price was better than any other company we had contacted. It was incredible to watch Norbert work. He showed up early each day early and stayed until each part of the job was finished. His care and consideration for our home was outstanding! He tackled the messy job of removing the old floor with as much care as the installation of the new floor. Each day his work areas were left immaculate. He worked quietly and efficiently. He worked with us on various problem areas until we were satisfied with just how the floor was installed and finished. His attention to detail shows the craftsmanship of the old world, for sure. His pride in his work comes across in each step of the process. And the machinery he uses for sanding and containing the dust is remarkable! We were worried with such a large project that dust would be a problem. It was no problem at all. He worked thought our entire upper level and we never used a dropcloth or piece of plastic to cover anything. The beautiful results of his installation, sanding and refinishing make us think we have moved to a new home. And we also have to mention how wonderful it was to deal with the business end of this company, Norbert's wife, Nora. She answers the phone each time with a smile in her voice or when needed, she returned our calls promptly. With such a large project in our home, scheduling was a major concern and Nora worked with us constantly to work out each step of the process. By the end of the job we felt like both Norbert and Nora were part of our family. Their talents and passion for their company and craftsmanship was incredible to witness. What a remarkable team!

The project took 4 days the longest being the first. Norbert is a very conscientious individual ensuring we were comfortable with all his work. Took time to explain what he'd do and the outcome to expect. I was amazed at the transformation in the floor. It went from a dark, scratched, nasty looking floor to a beautiful, red tinted oak with a rich luster.

Unbelievable. If you need your floors repaired, refinished, examined, ANYTHING, we HIGHLY recommend Old World Carpentry. Their service was highly professional, yet personal and extremely well executed. We are planning to have the floors on our second floor redone at some point, we will definitely be using these guys again. Amazing work.

Mr. Haberbusch was extremely professional, punctual, knowledgeable, and clearly a perfectionist. He understood immediately what we were looking for and made suggestions that improved the undertaking, such as putting in tile near the side door and extending the wood flooring to the basement steps for continuity. He also made suggestions regarding color of stain and type of polyurethane. There was very little mess and he was diligent in cleaning up each time before he left. He said there would be very little dust because of the equipment he used and that was completely accurate. As far as we're concerned, he's an artist.

They are very reasonably priced and extremely dependable. They do top notch quality work. They are very trustworthy and respected by their buyers. I would highly recommend them. I can not say enough good things about them.

We have had the floors refinshed two times before and this time was the best. No dust at all !!!!! The finished job with staining and water based finish was better than when we bought the house new. Hardly any smell also. He was on time and his price was much better than the other two companies we have have used in the past. It was an absolutely a perfect job and we have told him to use us as a reference because we were so impressed with his skills, cleanliness, and professionalism.

Norbert Haberbusch is very professional. He was exactly on time for the estimate appointment, and he was punctual every day he worked on the floor. During the sanding of the floor, his equipment caught most of the dust which made clean up easier. The floor looks beautiful and I would definitely call him for future jobs. It was truly a pleasure to do business with the Haberbuschs.

Norbert is a true old world craftsman. He did an absolutely beautiful job. You cannot tell where he patched the floors, and the stair treads, which are maple and not oak. They blend beautifully with the rest of the floors. He and Nora are delightful to work with. I would definitely hire them again.

Norbert was on time each day that I received service. He was very pleasant and his wife who handles most of the calls was pleasant as well. I am pleased with my floors and I will use Old World Carpentry for future projects.
