Description of Work: I contacted her regarding my very old Anderson stove that needed a repair. The stove was very similar to Chamber stoves and was created by a man named Anderson who had worked with Chamber. I felt that she seemed to be charging a market rate for stove repairs. The woman who owns the business is very knowledgeable and helpful. My experience with her was very good. My stove is old and still needs another repair. I have already reached out to the owner for the job.

Description of Work: I have an old stove which was part of the house when it was bought in 1967. the knobs which turned on the gas burners did work and Another company which I've used before told me that it couldn't be repaired since it was too old and they no longer make knobs for the stove. I found Belgrove appliance through Angie's list and they came by to clean the knobs out and got the stove working just in time for Christmas Eve dinner. It's been five months and I haven't had any problems. I highly recommend them, they were able to come out on short noticed and fix what was wrong.

Description of Work: The Stove Lady arrived late. Prior to her arrival an employee called to say that she was running late.When she arrived, she told us she had a funeral to attend which I understood.However, she seemed rushed and frazzled.She then told me she was supposed to be in the city already for her next appointment. The Stove Lady checked the dishwasher. We paid $100 cash for that.She did take a quick look at our refrigerator and stove (3-5 minutes tops - she said she could not fix them). She later wrote in an e-mail that she would not charge us for that. Thank God! The Stove Lady told us the dishwasher's motor had burned out and she Informed us she could purchase a new one. The dishwasher she found had poor reviews online. Her price was $200+ over the retail price in Best Buy for that same model. I understand she needs to make a profit, but that seemed incredibly expensive.She did try to find other models. However, she informed me she did not deal in low-end merchandise which I thought was insulting. She knew we were renters and would be required to leave the dishwasher if we moved out, as out landlady was paying half. Even after we told he we were done and would purchase our dishwasher ourselves, she continued to e-mail us. Perhaps, she thought that was being a professional. In fact, I thought the opposite was true.

As you are aware my shop was completely flooded out this past January and we had to close down. When you contacted me I was in the midst of being wrongly accused as the cause of that flood, dealing with two insurance companies, four insurance adjusters and I had just lost somebody close to me. I was trying to balance everything all at once by myself. We were not taking on new clients but your situation seemed like it couldn't wait so my mistake was trying to accommodate you in my spare time which was very limited. Since that day I stopped taking on clients because I definitely noticed it was effecting my ability to offer the high level of service our clients have been accustomed to enjoying. I take pride in my reputation. That being said, I don't fully agree with the rest of your assessment. I am The Stove Lady, why did you feel that I couldn't fix your stove? I gave you a quote to repair it in an email. It was my understanding based on my conversation with your husband that he wanted to know how to repair it because he was very hands on and could do it for less himself. The same with the refrigerator. Maybe you weren't aware of all the details because you were grading papers while he and I were talking. I do remember you and that crazy day. I agree that I was a bit off my game, but I did not have technical issues. For the amount you paid, I checked out and diagnosed the problem on your dishwasher. For no additional cost (which you would have paid approximately $150 for) I checked out, researched the parts, and provided you a repair quote for your stove. I don't repair LG refrigerators but I did tell you that it appeared your gasket needed to be changed. I did all of this on the go which is why I didn't have time to check the reviews on the dishwasher. I just asked my supplier to provide me with the least expensive dishwasher since your husband indicated that you would have to leave the appliances there and didn't want to invest too much in them. Again, your husband clearly indicated that you both didn't want to spend a lot of money and wanted to do the repairs yourself on the refrigerator and on the stove. I did give you a quote on the stove and offered a discount if we did the stove repair at the same time as the dishwasher installation. I recommended a better quality dishwasher after you said you didn't want the "cheapest" thing. That was a bit different than my conversation with your husband. I apologize if there was a misunderstanding. That was definitely possible because I had a lot on my mind. I would never insult my clients with regard to money because everyone wants to save money. I only offer my best recommendation to meet my client's goals. If a client is price sensitive I usually recommend them to Home Depot where they can do much of the heavy lifting themselves and save money. A dishwasher can easily sell for $700+ for a basic model. Considering installation and tax you could have easily spent more than $1000. Lastly, I sent you a few follow up emails when I didn't hear from you, not to encourage you to purchase a machine, but to let you know that I wasn't leaving you alone in your service dilemma with your dishwasher. We don't even make $100 on the sale of a new dishwasher. More is made on the repairs, but that would not have been in your best interest so I recommended the purchase of a new one. If you remember I emailed you and spoke with you at 10pm the night before I came just to ensure that you even needed an in home visit. I didn't want you to spend any money if you were going to have to purchase a machine, but based on our conversation a home visit couldn't be avoided. And I stayed there quite some time running the machine through cycles and looking at your other concerns. The bottom line is that I regret that your service experience was less than an A+. I strive to provide everyone with a stellar experience. For me, it is all about the experience and not about the money. Thankfully we have started to service our clients again, on a very restrictive basis, to ensure our service doesn't suffer. We will be formally reopening June 1st when we can focus on the most important thing, our client. We will offer you a certificate for a free service charge that you can use any time before December 1, 2013. That way you can get an in home consultation, by appointment, for an appliance we repair, at no charge. I hope this changes your understanding of who we are and that we do care about all of our clients regardless of whether we get the business from them or refer them to another company that would be in their best interest. I am the only local service provider that I know of that provides 24 hour emergency service to everyone. Should you need us I hope we can try again and rebuild our relationship.

Description of Work: We just bought our 2 family home that has two classic chambers stoves. I had no idea how to deal with them and needed to know how to work them. She came out taught me what to do and replaced a couple small parts. They are just super expensive, but I think they have a corner on the market. I will probably go to them when I need a full restoration on my stove.

Thank you for your report. We appreciate the time you took to complete it. I do remember you, and I believe you were able to sell the stove on the first floor shortly after our visit. Well somebody called me to ask me about the stove and I told them I had been there and it was worth purchasing. Even though it seems expensive, it is not when you consider the following: We had to travel about an hour and a half to get to you and back to our office. A bit more considering the traffic going back. So you probably paid about $120 in travel fees. The balance was for parts and labor to get both appliances ready for use and get a professional opinion on the safety of both appliances. We love what we do and take pride in our work. We charge the least amount possible to be able to give you the best service possible. As a service company we are not supposed to travel more than 15 minutes from our office. But because people "need" us in the surrounding states, we travel. I feel bad when I can't help people because of their distance. Many times I help people out of the NY metro area over the telephone for free. I have spent hours walking non technical people through diagnosing issues just so they won't get ripped off by local people who really don't know what they are doing or because local people told them there was nothing that could be done. Then between their patience and my expertise their appliance gets fixed, they feel empowered and I feel great! No money involved. And I almost always do that on Saturdays & Sundays when I have the day off. If we ever get the opportunity to do business in the future I will offer you a discount just for taking the time to post a comment here.

Description of Work: THE STOVE LADY was relentless in trouble shooting a problem with our 32 year old CROWN stove. On her 3rd visit she finally found the cause of a low burning flame from our broiler. She cleaned much of the stove, adjusted valves and tested the results. THE STOVE LADY conducts her business the way I conduct mine. She has a high degree of integrity and is dedicated to please the customer.
