When we bought our washer and dryer, we added on where you can get these service contracts and Sears comes in and cleans and maintains them once a year kind of thing. Its a standard warranty sort of thing. Well we don't have to really pay for it because its part of what you pay for the service. But when they leave the bill here, its about 180 bucks to do your washer and dryer. So its probably 90 bucks a piece to clean them and service them. We don't really have to service them much because there is nothing really wrong with them, they are pretty new but its the charge anyway. We've had them for maybe three years now or so. They seem really knowledgeable and experienced so they seem to really know what they are doing. The price is kind of high but you get what you pay for they say.

Although the news was not good, the repairman was really helpful. He didn't charge me for the labor because he originally thought there was only one problem. The part he did replace, enabled me to manage with the refrigerator working but not the freezer for a couple of weeks until I had time to research and replace the refrigerator. It was nice to get such an accommodating repairman.
Description of Work: My refrigerator stopped working. The repairman investigated and told me that a part was broken. He replaced the part, defrosted the freezer and then noticed that something else was wrong. The second thing wrong would cost almost as much as replacing the refrigerator. So, I decided not to do the second repair.

It went excellent. They came in one day and did the whole job. They were gone on the same day. The only thing was that a roofing nail went through my husband's sneaker. It went on the edge of the sole and went through the leather and out. It didn't go through the inner part of the shoe. After they finished their roofing job, they had a rake that will magnetically search through the ground three times over. Other than that, the whole job was perfect. The price was excellent. I called them and let them know about this and they haven't done anything about it yet. Their punctuality was excellent. It was a lifetime roof.
Description of Work: Sears did the roofing for us.

This was a nightmare of a service call!! DO NOT CALL! I called for service on my 65 inch 2008 TV because it was having a few white spots that was in the picture. The warranty was over and I did do some research before I called to see if I should replace TV. The manufacturer did say that after a few years the DLP chip does go and can be replaced for about $200. I called the first and what I thought was the most reliable name in the yellow pages, Sears. I explained the problem to customer service and asked them to come with the DLP chip whenever the serviceman came.I gave the model #, the make , the serial # and as much info as I could think of to get this done They confirmed that the serviceman would have the part on the truck and would be here in a few days. When the technician came , I helped move the TV so he could work , explained about the DLP chip ( Which he fluffed off) and went in the other room. He call his tech support and asked about "rebooting"?? and then after about 20 minutes told me it needed what is called a DLP chip. He went to his truck, I watched him walk around it then after about 20 minutes more, he said he did't have it and would have to come back in a few weeks afetr they order it. This would now cost me $526.00. I asked why, and he said that the chip would cost over $300 up front. I asked if I could order the part myself from manufacturer and after a lot of time of him hemming and hawing , he said yes and put it in his notes. THIS IS WHERE THE REAL NIGHTMARE STARTS!! When this techinician ( his number is #778, and he never gave his name to us) he proceded to work on our TV. I gave him an unopened package with the new DLP chip and after about 2 hours and ALOT of calls to his tech support I asked if there was a problem, he said he was having an issue, but continued working, After anout another half hour he said new chip was damaged so asked if he could just put the old Chip back and he proceded to do so. When he came into my house the TV only had a few white spots, when he put the old chip back I now had NO PICTURE AT ALL and a very panicky techinician who now went outside to take to his tech support. When he came back he said in putting the old chip back, the housing was damaged so now it would cost me $1200. I was angry but asked him , why didn't he explain the consqences BEFORE he opened the back of the TV, to NO ANSWER. When my husband came home, tech #778 was still here and while being on the phone with the SEARS CUSTOMER SOLUTIONS rep, Felicia, the Tech #778 admitted he had the problem and sears should be paying for it. Which was supposed to be recorded . The technician was supposed to come back on 3/16 and fix this problem, but instead called my husband and said that they WOULD NOT TAKE RESPOSIBILTY FOR this since it was NOT his fault and he won't be coming. Since then we have been on the phone with SEARS CUSTOMER SOULTIONS, SEDWIOCK INSURANCE COMPANY (Sears insurance issues) and SEARS MEMBER SERVICES. All who have taken the attitude that " THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS WRONG" and will not do anything to correct the situation , since then the technician, who has no name, lied about our part in this mess, saying we threw him out of our house ( NEVER) , he came on a different day and we said we would buy the new part (NEVER) and he never said he damaged it ( IT WAS HEARD BY CUSTOMERSOLUTIONS AND SHE SPOKE WITH HIM ON 3/6)!!! so the reason I could not put a cost of service on this is because what should have cost, $200 to $300 in a repair now cost us 2 months of aggrivation and another $3000 to replace the TV that THIS TECHNICIAN DAMAGED. if you hire SEARs REPAIR after reading this..GOD BLESS YOU.
Description of Work: Was supposed to come a replace DLP chip in 2008 Mitsubishi 65 inch TV. DON'T CALL THIS COMPANY!!

Went bad. The attempt to repair didn't solve the problem. Called back within two days. Even though the warranty supposedly was good for ninety days, the technician wanted to charge extra, which I refused. I asked for a refund. Called Sears twice, complained with the Better Business Bureau, complained online, complained with Consumer Protection. Finally after filing a complaint with the NY State Attorney General did I get my money back.

The online quote was something else and then when they arrived they tried to quote me something else. It was a diagnostic charge, hourly charge and then parts and labor. It went from a flat rate to an unknown charge. The sales rep seemed to be unfamiliar with the information on the companies website. They were friendly but not knowledgable.

I called corporate Sears so that they could locate which store the part was in. I got the info and went to the store on a Sunday and they were closed. (Not many parts stores are closed on Sundays in NY). The next day I went, there was a line with 5 people and 1 man working. The people in front of us said they were there for 20 minutes. I asked the rep if he was the only one working. He did not speak English very well. He said the other man was on break. He was working VERY SLOWLY. I waited 10 minutes more. He was still helping the same person & 2 more people were on line behind me. Then a man comes out from the back and just starts moving carts around. Someone asked if he could help us and he said he couldn't. The woman told him we've been waiting for 20 minutes. He said, "you should have seen this morning, the line was out the door." HA!!!! How unprofessional!!! Then when it was finally my turn, he couldn't locate the part, he was asking me the part #, he said the computer says they have it in stock, but it's not on the shelf. I said "Ok, GOODBYE!!!!!"
Description of Work: This was not a repair.... it was a part-pick up.I called corporate Sears so that they could locate which store the part I needed was in. I got the info and went to the store only to pick up a part that they supposedly had in stock.

DO use another company. Don't use Sears unless you like incompetence and having your call dropped and having to enquire through a person or persons who have no idea how to really help you. No, it isn't as though Sears treats you as just another number... unless we consider zero a number. Sears treats the caller as a nonentity. The calls result in only frustration and insult. Sears is the prototypical huge corporation which does not have the slightest idea of how to get its trousers on in an upright way. Everybody seems to be phoning it in, and no one really seems connected to caring and quality of work. This has been my experience dozens of times at Sears. Why do I return? Often others either don't do what I need done or they too perform their work shoddily. My returning to Sears should not be understood as coming consequent to my satisfaction. I am there because I really need something, and the price seems comparable to what I would see somewhere else. But I am almost always dissatisfied with the phone-it-in approach of so many Sears employees. Another reason I return to Sears is that my wife and I do not want to support Communist China, and thus we try not to buy products made in China. This makes things awkward, as you might expect, as China is the largest single exporter of manufactured goods to the United States. But we found a dehumidifier at Sears which says it was made in South Korea. We bought it and have been satisfied with it. These are some of the reasons for buying at Sears, not among them that we are satisfied with how the company is managed. It is managed awfully!!
Description of Work: My calls to Sears Home Services were on August 3, 2012, between 1:30pm and 2:00pm EST. I was unsuccessful, after several attempts, to get information about scheduling a repair for my lawnmower at the Smith Haven Mall location. A voicemail system, for example, sent me in a goose chase loop which only awkwardly and after several minutes of frustration sent me to an actual employee, who the sent me back through the goose chase loop. Very frustrating! I don't know where in the world these actual people are (India? Mexico?), but they are all quite uninformed and unable to help an English speaking caller. Sears is quite famous for lousy customer service. (Check the Internet for proof of this.) I never did get any reasonable help from the voice system or from an actual answering person. Sears is the worst!

We have a warranty on the larger appliances and that is pretty much it. The rest of the stuff is new. The warranty plan makes sense on something and on others don’t make sense. The washer is one of those things it is worth it for us because we use it constantly since we are a large family. Price wise it was nice. Technically we are paying for it. When one does the warranty it is basically there is a pre-pay on the service calls. But the difference is that, what we have actually found is that based on what they charge you at that time, if you expect or want to hang on to the item, then usually even if they come out one time it is paid for itself. One advantage is that even if things are not broke we have to have them come out to do the service which will tend to have things last longer. One has always had the choice. One can replace things but when you are spending over a $1000 on an item then it is worth it with the warranty at the time it is like 90 but it is like 3 years or something like that. So their warranties, we don’t do it on everything but on something like the washing machine which is prone to break or even the plastic things on it break one is going to spend more on the repair cost over time than if one is to sign up for the warranty. But for other things I don’t have an appliance repair. As for responsiveness they showed up when they said they were and that was nice. Punctuality wise they basically gave us a two hour window and they were here within the window and I don’t know how they can do better than that. Considering that we have the three year warranty we will use Sears again.

When we called them we described the problem and he seemed to know what was wrong. He said that one of the three rods that keep the washer drum in place has broken and that's what was causing the loud noise. He told us that we might be better off to buy a new one because the repair would be expensive. He told us it would a $65 travel charge, a $200 labor fee, and then a charge to fix the washer. My concern is that a repair to a washing machine should not be same price as a new washing machine, especially not one that is only 8 years old.
