Horrible, horrible, horrible!!! I sent a complete set of drawings to request an estimate. They told me it would take a few days. I called after a week. They told me a few more days. I called after a few more days. They told me a few more days. This went on for over 12 weeks!!! Seriously, 12 weeks of excuses. Car accidents, vacations... Instead of just declining to quote, they just kept telling me a few more days every week or so. After I gave up, they even called me to see if I was still interested and promise me an estimate would come in a few days. But it never came. It was like they were playing a game with me and laughing to themselves. I started going up the chain and eventually spoke to the president of the company who appologized and promised me that I would absolutely have an estimate in my hand in less than 48 hours. I politely told him that that was what everyone else kept promising me, so why was it different this time. He told me this time it would be different. After 4 days, no estimate and he refused to return a phone call. So this mentality obviously goes from the bottom all the way up to the top of the company. This is worse than poor customer service. They strung me along for 3 months and didn't have the decency to just say "thanks, but we're not interested". I can't imagine if they ever had a check from me. Something is obviously very broken at this company. Two weeks after the president's 48 hour promise, I received a phone call from a completely separate contractor that they obviously referred to me. Strange. Also, Prime uses an answering service. It is impossible to get anyone's direct phone number. You just have to leave a message with the clueless operator that answers the phone and hope the person feels like calling you back. It should also be noted that I am obviously extremely disgruntled now, but during the process I was very polite and respectful.

Everything went very well, the crew was quck, efficent and cleaned up every day. Overall we are happy with the work. We were a little unsettled with the roof from the inside as the crew missed the rafters in several places leaving 5 inch spike nails pointing down from the ceiling, a safety hazard when in the space. Gino and Mel want the work done right and they do stand by their word to finish the job to customer satisfaction. One chimney cap blew off and both Gino and I thought that the siding that was initailly installed did not look right. It was aluminum and the white underside in places showed through on the brown surface. They sent a crew back to the house this spring to reinstall the cap and replaced the aluminum siding with vinyl and it looks great. He also installed at no cost to us a new drain pipe and gutter.
Description of Work: point upper chimney, installed 2 caps removed existing roof and installed new plywood barrier and shingles removed wood and sided a small dormer, cleaned up and carted everything away

Crew was on time and prepared to work. Requests for special tasks such as removing old TV antenna from roof were handled quickly. Despite blistering heat, the crew worked efficiently throughout the day. They suggested a power wash, which made a big difference in the look of the property. That added a day but was a good recommendation. I would definitely use Prime Home again. They seem to have the right balance of price, responsiveness and follow through.

They verified that the previous roofer did a lousy job. They gave me an estimate on what needed to be done. They gave me a breakdown of the estimate. Ron was very nice, helpful and knowledgeable. He didn't actually charge me for the first estimate. He came out again a couple weeks ago to give me an estimate on windows and siding. He was very helpful again and verified that the roof needed to be redone.

Overall the experience was very positive. I was very OCD about how I went about getting the roof replaced. We got SEVERAL estimates - AJ Reliable, Segelman Shaw, Home Depot, and Valerio. Part of the reason we got so many estimates is that everyone was recommending slightly different things. Everyone agreed that we needed to replace the roof. Some suggested that we only replace the wood that was "bad," while others "suggested" that we replace all the wood. This was because our current wood was not up to current code (3/8 inch thick vs. 1/2 inch thick). In the end, the choice was left up to us. We actually opted to replace all the wood. It didn't really make sense to replace the roof and leave wood that wasn't up to code. When the actually roof came off, it was pretty clear that much of the wood was badly damaged. Some companies swear by GAF-ELK brand shingles while others recommend other types. Prime used Owens Corning Duration shingles. Based on Consumer Reports ratings, you can view the OC Duration Shingle and the GAF TImberline shingle as Coke vs. Pepsis - no major difference. The most confusing part was that each contractor recommend something different RE: attic ventilation. We opted to keep our ventilation the same (large gable vents + 2 power attic vents). Prime did give us a very reasonable quote on replacing the 2 attic fans at the time the roof was being done. We opted not to replace it at that time. Our reasoning was as follows: the vents were working just fine and they seemed to be very good quality vents. Unfortunately, one of the vents broke about a week after the roof was completed. It looks like getting this one fan replaced is going to cost about twice as much as if we had 2 new fans installed at the time the roof was being replaced. Had I know it would have cost so much more to replace the fan later, I would have of course done things differently. We went with Prime based on the previous reviews on Angie's List and also their price was very competitive. Segelman Shaw, another highly rated AL contractor, gave us a similar quote. We went Prime because they had so many positive reviews and also, we wanted a general contractor that we could possibly call back for additional work in the future. Additionally, I really felt comfortable with the no pressure approach from Prime. The person that I dealt with the most from the company was Ron Ciuffetelli. I would suggest you ask for him specifically. After the initial estimate, Ron was very responsive to the "twenty questions" I sent him via email. All the other contractors we had in gave quotes that were much higher. Besides the whole issue with the attic fan, the project went great. The entire job was done in two days. The crew was professional and did a good job keeping the property clean and removing all debris.
Description of Work: We had our entire roof replaced along with all the wood underneath the shingles.

I received estimates from Prime for a new roof and windows. Ron came to do the estimate and was the only one to actually walk my roof of all the contractors that came to my home. He was very pleasant and professional and took the time to explain the project and answer my questions. He was equally courteous when I called him with follow up questions. Prime is a family owned business and I had the sense that they would do a good job for me. I received five estimates for my job and ultimately decided to go with a company that manufactured themselves a very energy efficient window, but I would not hesitate to recommend Prime Home Improvement or to consider them for future work.

Our first contact was with Ron Ciuffetelli, a principal of the firm. He came promptly at the appointed time, showed us a sample window and explained how the work would be done. The workers arrived on the set date for installation and completed the work neatly and expeditiously in one day. The windows are of excellent quality and a huge improvement over our old windows. The company followed up with a thank you letter for choosing them - a nice touch.

Making the appointment went fine. My contact person was Mel Orellana. He was not availabe when I called, but returned my call shortly afterward. I was given an appointment for Thursday, July 7th at 10 AM. No one showed up by 10:45. I called the office and was told no one was available to explain the delay and I would be called back. No call back came by 11:45. I called the office again and again no one was available and I was told I could leave a message - which I did. I explained that this was my second call and I had already left a message. A few minutes later, Gino called me and said the person scheduled to clean the gutters was in an accident and someone would call me to reschedule the appointment. Richard called at 9:30 PM and rescheduled the appointment for the following day. He showed up at the appointed time and he and his helper cleaned the gutters and leaders. My only complaint was not being notified that there was a problem and I would not be serviced that day. I would suggest that there be better communication with the office and the workers so that customers can be notified if they cannot do the work at the appointed time. Customers need to have someone available to handle any problems.

It was at that point the manufactures problem. here was a lifetime waranty. it has been almost a year and i had to contact consumer protection to get my windows replaced. We put the work on a little bit of a hold. I was pleased with the people that came. Their attention and proposal process was nice. They were great. They were professional and they came in and I explained what I wanted. I also had some leaking issues with the rain so he was thinking about how to make the building structurally sounder without breaking the bank. I got two estimates and each had a different approach but both seemed workable. He wrote up the estimate and told me there was an Angie's List discount and that was good. The proposal came in writing in the mail a couple of days later. They were available and knowledgeable. They worked within the limits I set in terms of finance and extensiveness of the project. I would recommend them. They were responsive and flexible in working with my schedule. They gave me a larger estimate than the other company but they were proposing somewhat more robust work. The price was fair for what they offered to do.
Description of Work: I got a quote from Prime Home Improvement to redo the garage as a workshop.
The price they quoted me was $1700, but I have had the work done as yet. I liked them and I am actually thinking of asking them to do the job. They were courteous and professional.
Description of Work: Prime Home Improvement –Prime Building Services came out about 3 weeks ago and gave me an estimate to replace the wood around the window frame.
I own an attached home with my parents living next door. The exterior siding was done at different times and now it was time to get both houses sided. I contacted Prime Building and made an appointment to speak with a rep. Gino came to my house and we discussed the work that was to be done. It was easily the best experience I had with a home contractor. Gino wrote up all the work that was to be done, including extra work that might be needed and included it in his detailed estimate. Gino's estimate was the best by far. After I saw the price for the siding I asked about a patio door and 2 storm doors, again a very good price. Elmer and his crew showed up as scheduled removed the old siding and installed the new siding. The crew was hardworking and professional. The house looks great. Thank you Gino, Elmer and Prime Building.

Excellent services from the intial contact, estimate, work & cleanup. Superb customer service. I obtained the permit to make things faster - the job was finished on time and well done.
Description of Work: Removed 2 layers of old shingles and installed a new ashpalt shingle roof on a large, modified hip roof ranch style home.
The crew arrived on time (early actually) and got the work done efficiently, working around some other workers I had in the house. The work took only the amount of time estimated to complete it and the house was left in the same condition it was in before they arrived. The guys were both very friendly and professional.
Description of Work: I called Prime only a week before I need a patio door installed. I received a quote for the installation ($700) and was told that I was able to get the door myself to save some money. (Many places will mark up the door price to compensate themselves for the time and effort.) Because of a medical situation, I was unable to even go to the store to pick out the door so after I chose one, they went to Home Depot and bought it for me and came and installed it on the specified date. I was billed just what the door cost + the installation fee. While they were there, I needed a wall of sheet rock removed and they were able to accommodate me at the last minute. I just received a quote from them to do interior paint, wood staining (banisters, a fire place, etc.), lighting and fan installation, etc. and it was a very reasonable quote. Hopefully I will be posting another straight A review soon.

Mr Gino Ciuffetelli (owner) personally met with me, explained all our options, and made suggestions regarding re-roofing our house and garage. His estimate included all the work we agreed upon. He even dissuaded me from paying for the more expensive shingles I had in mind, maintaining that they would not provide additional durability or value. His crew showed up on time, and was efficient and courteous. They also cleaned up thoroughly at the end of each day. The entire job was completed in 3 days, exactly as Mr. Ciuffetelli estimated. I give Mr. Ciuffetelli and Prime Home Improvements my highest, unqualified recommendation for professionalism, honesty, and expertise. He did the job skillfully, and when site conditions demanded additional work, he did what was needed and refused to accept additional payment, insisting on honoring his original estimate. This kind of integrity is hard to find. I won't hesitate to use Prime Home Improvements for additional work on my house, and I've already enthusiastically recommended Mr. Ciuffetelli and Prime Home Improvements to friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: Full roof replacement, new shingles, remove and reset gutters.
Another overall great experience with Prime. For the doors and windows, the mechanic had to come first to measure. They were scheduled to come before 8, and when they hadn't appeared by 8:15 I call Melvin, but they were on their way and got there about 10 minutes later. The mechanic and his helper took the measurements quickly and clearly knew what they were doing. We arranged the first work days with Melvin and they arrived on time, as did the painting crew. They worked quickly, neatly and cleaned up completely at the end of every day. We delayed the completion of the job by a week, and Melvin was accommodating and agreeable. The crews finished up the jobs on schedule. They were very good about not letting our cats out of the bedroom where we had sequestered them, even though they had to open the door periodically to sand and paint the moulding & around the door; I really appreciated that. All of the guys worked hard, but were unfailingly friendly and careful. We had a little issue because the details of the water damage repairs were not conveyed clearly to the painting crew, so they did not understand everything they were supposed to do, but a quick call to Melvin took care of the misunderstanding, and everything proceeded fine thereafter. I was very comfortable having the workers around the house.
Description of Work: Water Damage Repairs - Strip wallpaper, remove sheetrock from 2 walls in bathroom. Remove sheetrock from 1 1/2 wall and 1/2 ceiling in hall, remove crown, baseboard & door moulding from 4 doors, replace sheetrock with greenboard, replace mouldings, prepare remaining walls, paint all. Remove existing front door and storm door and replace, remove & replace 2 basement windows (hopper windows).

From the start, my wife and I met salesman, Tom Welch, after he came to our house to tell us about Prime Building Services. Mr. Welch spoke to us about all the services that Prime offered. I told him that I wanted the gables vinyled. The price was great and the work was done in 5 hours. I was so happy with the job well done that I decided to have the rest of the house painted. After the work was done. the job came out magnificent, superb, etc. I have never seen such good workers as the men that did the painting. which I told to Melvin Orellana who is in charge of the workers. With that job done I had Prime paint a new stockade fence (750 feet.) which is looking beautiful as I do this report. The workers also power washed the limestone retaining wall. Other projects are planned and I definitely will be calling Prime Building Services.

Terrible. The snow was removed, but in a manner which damaged my roof. I would not expect this from a highly rated roofing company.
Description of Work: I purchased the Angie's List Big Deal for 2 man hours of roof snow/ice removal. According to the offer details a specially trained crew would use the proper equipment and proper steps to remove snow off of the roof to prevent issues from snow freezing/refreezing. Three men did show up to remove the snow from the roof. However, SHOVELS WERE USED ON THE ROOF WHICH HAS RESULTED IN AT LEAST 2.5 SHINGLES BEING REMOVED AND OTHER SHINGLE REMNANTS BEING FOUND IN THE GRASS THIS SPRING. MY ROOF NOW HAS SHOVEL MARKS ALL OVER THE SHINGLES FROM THE IMPACT OF THE SHOVELS. The offer was misleading as proper tools and techniques were not used. I have no way to measure the damage that was caused to my roof. Common sense tells one that a shovel can not be used with force against the shingles. At a minimum my roof was damaged in this process and will not have the remaining useful life due to the shovel damage and missing shingles. The end result (removing the snow from my roof) was achieved with hard work, but proper care was not taken to protect my roof. If this work is too dangerous for the provider, they should refrain from providing their services for this type of work.

Member Thank you for taking time to review our services. We feel terrible that you feel that way about our crews. This past winter was very difficult on many home owners. Roofs were badly damaged by all the snow and Formation of ice dams. Your roof had over 4 feet of snow and about 5 Inches of Ice Dams. We did everything in our power to remove the snow and ice while protecting your roof unfortunately some shingles were damaged. If you would have called us we would have serviced your roof at no cost. As you can imagine we try our best to be careful when cleaning snow of a roof but just imagine how dangerous it is to clean a roof while standing on snow and ice and heavy winds blowing your way. Please take some time to read some of our other reviews form the many satisfied customers on the list.

I now have a roof that collects water, a broken stove pipe, no leaders, and still have a mess on my roof. It was just last week that they got the mess in my yard cleaned up. There are black patches on the white roof, and it doesn't look good at all. Gravel stop is dented and wavy. They need to fix the soffits. They also did not return my phone calls when I had leaks in house. I have a list of items they still need to correct: incorrect pitch on the roof, a broken hood over my stove, pooling water on roof, they must have an (EPDM) inspection of roof which they repeatedly promised but have never yet done, and poor caulking around the edge of the roof/gravel stops. Now they are demanding that I pay up front to fix their mistakes, but I will be happy to pay them only when everything is fixed. I still have not seen an itemized invoice, which they have promised for many months They gave me better roofing material (EPDM) because they made the mistake of not ordering tapered insulation, but I did not agree to these other problems. * They have some subs that a very good, but they also have some that aren't good and make lots of mistakes. It is now more than five months of unfulfilled promises and disappointments.
Description of Work: Re-roofing, extended some of the soffits, and changing the pitch 3"-6", enlarging internal drains and put a well around them, new leaders, new gravel stop, and painting. The roof was supposed to be a white torch down roof. We also hired them to do a staircase in another building. They convinced us to use their electrician for our electrical work.

Response from Prime Home Improvement
Dear Angie’s List Member, We feel that prime needs to respond to you letter review dated May 26, 2011. The reason that you hired prime to do your roof is that it was leaking and needed to be replaced. We were also hired to extend your overhangs on the home. Whenever received working drawings. The work order originally called for a torch down ten year modified roof on your home. You told us, specifically that you would have preferred an E.P D. M. roof on your home instead of a modified roof. When we proposed that we would install an E.P.D.M. roof on your home with out changing the price of the work order, a roof that as you were told, not only by us, but by other contractors, was valued at $10,000.00 additional. You were in favor of the upgrade. We delivered the first E.P.D.M. roof and you then informed us that you didn’t want a black E.P D M. roof but you wanted white. Even though the cost for the roof was an additional $1,200.00 for the white E.P.D.M. we didn’t balk or ask you for any additional money, not that you offered, all with the idea of trying to please you. We don’t want to go back and re hash your whole job for a variety of reasons. As the work was progressing, you were on top of the roof numerous times every day. It seemed that nothing that we did was correct in your eyes. You stopped our men every day from working. and constantly had them working at your direction. It is very disconcerting when a homeowner takes over the role of foreman (or fore-woman) and insists on running the project. We still haven’t been able to find a record of your certification for roofing of any sort or specifically for E.P.D.M., or your contractors license any where on line. The bottom line is that you now have a roof that does not leak, and the product that was used on your roof, is used in the bottom of pools to retain water for twenty to thirty years without leaking. Prime has completed all of the work and more, according to the work order. If your flashing is dented it is because others including yourself continuously place ladders against the flashing and dent them. We have to be honest with you, I know that we are not perfect but, Prime has more than one hundred favorable reviews by others clients on Angie’s list. That is something that we take pride in, as we must be doing some things right. Prime has a reputation not only for quality work, and attention to detail, but we also excel in the area of having great working relationships with our clients. I guess there is always one exception to the rule. We don’t ever “demand” nor will we ever ask for something that is not due Prime.
I called Prime for an estimate, along with two other contractors. They came and provided a quote. I was pleased with the quote, but asked Mel, the Prime representative, to come back and take another look. I was afraid that he'd overlooked some of the work to be done. He returned, and we walked through the site, reviewing the work specs together. He assured me that all the work I was requesting had been included in the quote. And indeed it was.
Description of Work: The Prime crew transformed a roughly finished attic renovation into a wonderful three-room visitor suite. They smoothed plaster that had been roughed-in, spackled all dents and nail holes, and primed all walls, ceiling, and wood trim, both new and original. Within two days, all the dust was vacuumed up and the room glowed. The space is lit with skylights, so any imperfections would show. There are no imperfections.
