Giant Siding & Windows Inc

We were given an approximate start date, and Perry kept us informed as that start date got closer. They actually started the job sooner than expected, which was nice given that colder weather was coming, as were the holidays. Perry was quick to respond to concerns or questions as the work progressed. They told us the siding work would take three days, and it took exactly that. The deck rebuild took another two days and there was a final 'clean-up' day to take care of a few finishing touches. Given the scope of the job I was really surprised and pleased with how quickly it went. The siding looks terrific and the rebuilt deck looks amazing. We would definitely hire Giant again when the time comes to replace our windows.

I did get many estimates about this job, because they were such a range from $5000.00- 12,000.00 for the same scope of work. Several companies suggested several different additions to the job, but when I just looked at the roofing, there was a huge difference in price and maybe in product and process. So I went ahead and got 6 bids to be sure I found the right company. Giant was not the cheapest at all, but for us it was down to 2 top companies from Angies List that I thought had the best products and seemed to have the most detailed and through process. At that point Giant was able to get to the job within one month so I went with them and have been very happy I did so, the company was great and Alfonse Garguilo, our sales rep did a good job of keeping in touch with us and running the job. He was very responsive to all our punch list requests and did many extra things to make us happy with the job. The roof looks good.

From start to finish, our experience with Giant was a positive one. It all started when Perry Hayes, the owner, came to our house after hours (taking time out of his evening) to give us an estimate. He presented his roofing system and credentials, and after getting a few other (pricier) quotes from other companies, we decided to hire Giant. After picking the color for our new roof, Perry was able to schedule our job for the upcoming Saturday, which we greatly appreciated. His crew arrived promptly and got to work covering our landscaping before demoing the old roof. The work proceeded at a good pace. His hard-working crew worked from early morning until sunset each day. In the end the job took a bit longer than anticipated due to weather delays and a mixup with the building material supplier, but I don't fault Giant for that. Giant also installed new seamless gutters and downspouts all around the house, which look fantastic. The two new gable vents also look great. The crew cleaned up everything well once they finished, and our landscaping was left in perfect condition. Overall, everything went smoothly, and we are very happy with our new roof. The only problem was a leak I discovered on the day Perry's crew finished their work. It was on a low-pitch section of our roof which required a special type of roofing material, which for some reason hadn't sealed to the roof properly. I called Perry after hours that night, and he was out bright and early the next morning with his crew to repair the leak. It is now completely water-tight, and I appreciated the quick response and great service. Overall, it was a positive experience. Perry is a very friendly person, was very responsive to any questions we had, and was quick to resolve any issues that cropped up. The work was well done they used quality materials and offered a solid warranty. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Giant again in the future and would recommend them to anyone looking to do a major roofing project.

When my husband and I were remolding a sunroom off of our kitchen by tearing down all of the walls and starting from scratch, we asked around about whom to use, Giant Siding and Windows was highly recommended to us by close friends. This is a licensed, registered and insured company that was extremely reliable and respectful. They gave us a detailed contract with a time frame that met our needs. The owner of the company took the time to listen to all of our needs and was available whenever we had questions or wanted to make minor changes during the project. (one in which we decided to put new windows and a sliding glass door in the new room, replaced its roof and had our house sided with new gutters). They were very efficient and met their part of the agreement. The entire team was neat, clean and respectful to both my husband and I. We were pleased with their work and our siding and windows look beautiful. My husband and I highly recommend this company to anyone. We are so pleased with the outcome and how fast the project was completed. Another bonus of hiring this company was that the price was great. Our inspector was even pleased with their work.

It was terrible! I have a house that is close to 100 years old. I contracted this company because they said they would replace the roof and make everything look like it had before work was done. I have 7 peaks and 12 valleys. This company actually squared off some of the peaks. I have chestnut wood trim all around the house which they were not supposed to remove. They removed and replaced it, but when they replaced it they did not do it right. There are gaps between the trim and the roof. They have dropped materials on my nearly 100 year old cast iron fence and they have destroyed it. They have torn up my driveway and left shingles and nails all over my yard. As in town records, this was one of the first homes in the town. The fact that this company would have complete disregard for the fact that this home is a landmark is disgraceful. They have also ruined my historical landscaping. They pulled stuff out that had been there for nearly 100 years. This company did not actually use their own workers, they subcontracted the work. They claim to have an all-American crew. I was guaranteed that these workers go to special classes and they have to be approved by GAF to properly install the material. That is not the case at all. I had to speak with my workers through translations with my I-Phone. None of them had gone to and classes what so ever. The landscaping, the driveway, the scraping of the driveway, the scraping of the bricks and the roof are all ruined. I have pictures of all of this. UPDATE ON 11/01/2011: Nothing on our property was protected or covered from work debris...The owner Perry Hayes and Alphonze said that everything would be protected, cleaned and not damaged, and when I made a remark he told me it was my responsibility to protect these things which is ludicrous..The roofers made a shambles of my premises, New Castle is a great building supply co. did not have problems with this co... absolutely no one has shown up to check work done at all...The work crew spoke no English and were subcontracted, not involved with giant at all!!! When we asked to speak to crew foreman no one knew what we were talking about..called Perry several times, never called back..I threatened to call the police so I can have a report, they said no! We have no papers. Perry got paid back in June and kept delaying over and over again, but the job was only a 3 day job, they said it was a seven day job to be careful...this didn't happen..There was no supervision, no foreman, no communication for seven days with Perry, the owner..He was MIA!..He really doesn't care about the homeowner or their precious home, only his pocket!!! Let him comment anything he wants, we have proof by our pictures and documented phone calls and check. Anyone can contacts us for more info, we are not happy at all...sincerely Nick Cacaj, homeowner.

Perry was one of three contractors we interviewed, and as soon as he made his presentation, we knew that we were going to go with Giant. Very knowledgable about siding, and he just immediately assessed what we wanted and needed. We called up his references, and they had nothing but good things to say about him. Do make sure that you review the contract carefully - there was a mixup of what specific siding we were going to get, and admittedly there were some details on MY side that I forgot to discuss with him (ex. replacing gable vent). I had to ask him to throw them in at the last minute. But he corrected the contract with no worries whatsoever and no change in price. They replaced the siding over the weekend. These guys just kept on trucking - I don't know if I ever saw them take a break. And they were EXTREMELY punctual - they showed up fifteen minutes early for the job. Everything was done so well and so quickly I felt that we had just purchased a brand new house! But we live in an old house, with old wiring and such, so our phone line and outside electrical outlet konked out. The phone line we figured out right away, and Perry told us just to get the phone repairman over and to send him the bill. We didn't figure out that the outside outlet wasn't working until two months later - but Perry sent an electrician over and the guy fixed it for us (Note: we did have to call a couple times to get this secured. Granted, it was right after Hurricane Irene.) I did feel a little guilty once the electrician showed me the condition of the old outlet - I'm surprised it didn't die BEFORE the siding got replaced . I was afraid that Perry would tell us that they wouldn't cover the repair. But again, no charge and no worries. Side note: Our neighbors (who also had siding replaced recently) had warned us that we would have siding nails scattered around the house perimeter after the job was over, but the cleanup was thorough. We found one or two nails, but that was it. We're very happy with Giant, and if we had to do it all over again, we would choose them gladly.

I was really in a jam...a rental property with a leaky roof (multiple locations) and Tropical Storm Irene moving up the coast. Yikes! Perry and his crew shoe-horned me into the already full schedule and got the work done (with 2 days to spare)! Perry's price was half of what his competitors charged. He responded promptly to emails and phone calls, addressing my questions and concerns concisely and completely. This is important because I am in FL and he is in White Plains, NY. I had met him once, when we discussed the job, but other than that we were coordinating everything long distance. No worries! No headaches! Time was a factor and his crew got there bright and early each day and, according to neighbor reports (my sister), worked virtually non-stop to get the roof completed before the storm arrived. I can recommend GIANT without hesitation and will certainly use him again in the future.

It was a real pleasure to work with Perry Hayes. He and his team are courteous, responsive, and very professional. We had solicited 3 estimates and Perry was in the middle. We went with him because he gave us sound advice for the siding (removing the old siding and replacing it with new). Perry took the time to explain the entire process, showed us samples, and ensured that our questions were answered. He was also very prompt in returning our calls and e-mails. So, it was very efficient process. The job was completed ahead of schedule and we were exceptionally pleased with the meticulousness with which the work was done. The house looks great! What was sincerely appreciated is that Perry gave us a discount from the agreed price because some of the plywood under the old siding and roof was in good shape and did not need to be replaced. He had included that in his fixed price and, therefore, reduced the price to reflect the cost saving. We highly recommend Giant and will use the company when we next have a similar project.

He kept saying he would show up, and he never did. When he finally did show up and he was an hour late. He was supposed to call me with the quote, and he never did. He finally said he was unable to do the job. He strung me along for a month.

My experience with Giant was excellent. I found the company on Angie's List, and Perry responded promptly to my inquiry for an estimate. He came and inspected my old roof and gave me a detailed estimate and description of the work they would do. His presentation included using a small model of a roof so that I understood all of the elements that went into the job. The price he quoted was fair -- very slightly above another estimate I had received, and well below a third estimate. I decided to go with Giant because they had taken the time to explain the job to me in detail, seemed quite professional, and were going to use the highest quality materials. The job was started about a week later, and was completed in 3 days. The workers arrived right on time, and did exactly what Perry had promised. The installation went smoothly and the new roof looks great. Alphonse supervised the job and was also highly professional and a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend the Giant team and am glad I found them on Angie's list.

Tony and his crew showed up on 5/5/11 at about 8am. The entire roof, except for the garage, was stripped and replaced that day with lifetime guaranteed Certanteed shingles. The 2 sheets of plywood were also replaced. New ridge vent was installed. Before the end of the day, Alfonse, the supervisor of the project, showed up and reviewed the work withme. Told me they would return the next day and finish the garage and cleanup by 3pm. Sure enough, the work was done when I got home that afternoon. The job site was clean. In addition, Alfonse returned that evening to walk through the yard with me to answer any questions. He climbed up on the roof and personally inspected the work his men completed. My wife and I are completely satisfied.

We had a very hard time getting this company to call us back. When he finally did, we scheduled an appointment and I took off work so that I could be home for him. He changed the time of the appointment on the day of the appointment from morning to afternoon, which I agreed. He still never showed up. When I contacted him, he said that he came by my home and "someone answered the door and told him to go away." If this happened he should have called to make sure he was at the right house. I never got a call. Therefore, I will not be hiring him to do any work at my house because he is obviously not reliable or dependable.

Perry came and gave us an estimate. Delivery of the siding arrived four days later and work began two days after that. The whole job took two days. We were so satisfied we asked for garage roof replacement, a new back storm door, an additional gutter. Altogether they were done in four days!

I was in the process of getting estimates on windows and one of the estimates was from Giant Siding and Windows. Their response was immediate...from the time I made the call, someone was at my house the next day measuring and that afternoon I had an estimate which beat any of my other estimates. I was most impressed with their courtesy professionalism, speed at doing the job and quality of the windows. The installation went like clockwork and the cleanliness and cleaning up was impeccable. You would never know someone was in my house installing windows a half hour ago. It went so well I had them back to install 8 more windows. I would highly recommend their service. In the spring, they will be doing some roofing and installing to skylights. That just goes to show you how impressed I was.

We interviewed several companies from Angie's List and found that Perry Hayes, the owner of Giant Siding and Windows, gave us a reasonable cost estimate, a professional explanation and rationale for the work to be done and was most accommodating in meeting additional needs. For example, he installed a storm door we ordered and agreed to pick it up from the store for us. He also installed new outdoor flood lights and light fixtures which we had purchased. They also did unexpected carpentry work as the need arose during the course of the job. Both Perry and his on-site supervisor, Alphonse were very responsive and addressed issues as they arose in a timely and professional manner. They were very easy and pleasant to work with. The job was completed on schedule, as promised and the workmen left the site in a clean and presentable manner at the end of each day. We would use Giant again and would highly recommend them to others.

I used them primarily because of Angie?s list, and I liked them when they came. They were nice people, and the price was good. They had good recommendations on Angie?s list.

Just an awful experience ..very poor work..left mess at the end of each day..had to remind them of things that were not completed..used my ladders and vacuum without asking. Even left truck in my driveway , causing me to park in the street overnight. I requested that the phone junction box NOT be mounted on the new siding ( I was going the relocate it ) came home to find it screwed into new siding anyway. I had to clean screws and nails from driveway before I could go to work one morning. They did damage to floors and walls in one of the rooms. When caulking windows they covered over weep holes designed to release rain water. One of the window sills was installed with the incorrect pitch, both of these things would have caused water damage over time. One day when I came home from work and found their vehicle in the driveway (again), I parked behind them, later when they left ,they drove over my neighbours front lawn, instead of just asking me to move my car. When speaking to Perry ( head of company, and person who sold me the job) about many of these issues, he proved to be confrontational, disrespectful, and at times, out right nasty.

I almost contracted Giant's owner Perry Hayes to do windows and a roof. He gave us an estimate. In the Pennysaver of Nov 4, 2010 there was an ad for a pre-season special Timberline 30 year roofing shingles 2000 sq ft for only $3995 when you mentioned the ad. I called him on the cell phone that he gave me and I asked him why we didn't get that special price when I met with him. He hung up the phone on me. I called him back and asked him why he hung up- his answer was "I have no time for nonsense." He said the ad did not include "tear down." I said that the ad never mentioned that. He again hung up on me. Subsequently because of his unprofessional behavior we did not use him for my roof and windows. The next month my windows and roof were being done by another contractor. I was outside with my neighbor when he passed by in his red truck and stopped the car by my house and started laughing. I asked him what he was laughing at and he started rambling on. I said that when you hang up on people they don't use you for the job, they use other companies. He said "you begged me to do this job." I had no idea what he was talking about. I am writing this negative comment because of his unprofessional and immature behavior. It was totally uncalled for.

We discovered mold in the ceiling of our entry closet. Upon further investigation, we realized we had 2 possible leaks in our roof and the roof (25 years old) either needed to be repaired or replaced entirely. We solicited bids from 4 companies, one of which was Giant. Perry Hayes made an appointment with me to provide an estimate and arrived promptly. Perry walked the property and was very good about asking questions and educating me about options (e.g., replacing vs reusing flashing, not replacing the shingles on an addition which had a newer roof, shingling over vs replacing the shingles of a separate studio, etc.). He then sat down and provided me an "on the spot" proposal that included a couple of options to consider (because we knew it was going to be a big, expensive undertaking). Perry and his assistant were also great about helping me secure a tarp over the areas of the roof that appeared to be leaking. Giant's bid was about about 10% higher than from 2 other companies, so ultimately I decided to go with another company from whom I had a lower bid and had received an excellent reference from a friend.

I left a message for Giant late in the day on Thursday, December 9th and the next morning Perry returned my call. A phone call back might not seem like a big deal, but in my experiences getting residential contractors to return a phone call is almost a 'mission impossible' Perry was super friendly and professional and he recommended another contractor for me to contact that specializes in slate roofs. Perry took his time with me on the phone and explained that with slate roofs I should be careful in choosing who to perform the work because often times the roof can get damaged during the repair process if the contractor isn't skilled in that craft. After I hung up with Perry I called the contractor he recommended, Werkheiser Roofing. They returned my call within an hour, were very friendly and professional and I have an appointment with them next Wednesday! I really can't express my gratitude and thanks to Perry enough. Without getting into to much detail, for the past two and half months I have been dragged around by another roofing company to perform this work (not a big job). I had a contract with them and gave them a deposit, and they completely flaked out on the project entirely. They told me that they have been busy cleaning gutters and that they can't fix roofs or perform installations when the weather dips below freezing (I contacted them in September and we're in December, mind you). Frustrated and with winter approaching, I was pretty desperate to find someone else to at least fix the roof (which, the unnamed bad contractor broke one of my roof tiles upon inspection and left it on my doorstep). I called Giant because of their positive reviews, and because the owner seemed really responsive to all the posts (whether good or bad). Even though Giant couldn't do the work they referred me to someone that seems really competent and I'm *so* tremendously grateful for that! Based solely on this event, I would absolutely use Giant in the future. Thank you Perry!!

They worked very well. The roof was okay, and they finished when they said they would. The only problem was that they had different crews work on the job, which I didn't like that much.

Generally very well....lots of debris around the house all of which they cleaned up exceptionally well though they did forget to cover one area where there were flowers and they were demolished. Whatever small damage there was around the house from falling debris they replaced immediately.

Perry Hayes the owner gave us a very prompt bid that was much lower than two of the others we received. He scheduled the work as soon as we wanted it done and completed promptly in three. He and his subordinates were very professional and easy to work with. We are pleased with the result.

Weeks have passed with no word and no estimate. Follow-up phone calls have gone unreturned. Shame because I was looking forward to seeing his estimate based on the good reviews here. We're doing the job but going with someone else.
