Fred's Chimney Magic

My chimney was a one in a million not very good stack with an extreme curve at the bottom. There were some bricks protruding to make the installation of the liner extremely difficult or as Fred would say " don't know if this is even possible . Most contractor would have given up and moved on, but not Fred. He some how found a way and like a true expert solved the problem and made it all work. We were all thankful for his professionalism and excellent workmanship. But most of all we are confident that the job was done the right way. He also advised us that we needed a special fan to safely exhaust because of the small size of our chimney combined with the amount of BTU's of our system. Safety first, I hadn't heart that from other chimney contractors that we interviewed. Thank you once again for a GREAT JOB. Also great follow through from Annette scheduling and making sure we were happy with the job.

This company was wonderful. Very honest. I was selling my house and the engineer's report stated that I needed to clean the chimney, replace the damper and get an estimate for any other repairs that might be needed. First, the gentleman cleaned the chimney. Very neat and clean. Would not have known any work was completed in the house. Then he informed me that despite what the report stated, I did not need a new damper. He provided me with documents which detailed the type of damper I had, including the fact that is was state-of-the art. He topped off the visit by telling me that no additional work was needed. The chimney was safe. How wonderful to deal with an honest company. Thank you!

They did a great job. I would consider using them in the future since they can take of variety of things.

Everything was done excellently.We had a chance to test out their work, when due to Hurricane Sandy, we were without electricity (and thus heat), for 6 days. The wood burning stove heated the entire house and the regular fireplace worked well also.Both were inoperable before the work was done. Both fireplaces saved us many uncomfatable nights. Fred was very knowledgeable, but was on the expensive side. He worked very well and carefully. He answered all my questions.

The first time that we called Fred's Chimney Magic was to have our dryer vent cleaned. After hearing so many stories about fires resulting from clogged vents, we decided to call. The work was done from the outside of the house as a ladder was used to access the vent. It was absolutely amazing as to what was pulled out-- two birds' nests and other debris. We had a cap put on the outside so that this does not happen again. The vent still has to be cleaned in the future because of the lint buildup but this time it won't be because of nests. The second time that we called Fred's Chimney Magic was because our gutters were not performing well. Mike and his helper did a great job and unclogged the downspouts. They were quite thorough and made sure that the water was now running freely. They cleaned up at the end and you would never know that debris was emptied from the gutters. They did what they were supposed to do and did it quite efficiently!! I would never hesitate to use them again.

The service provider called the night before giving me a two hour window of when to expect the technicians and called me the day of to notify me when the technicians were headed to my home. Mike and Alonzo were professional and began inspecting/cleaning the chimney within a few minutes of arriving. Upon inspection of the chimney liner, they recommended that they replace the liner due to holes in the liner. They took pictures of the liner to show me the damage. They replaced the liner within 1.5 hours and made recommendations of repairs to be made within the near future. I would recommend this company to others and use them again in the future.

They arrived very punctual and ask a few question about if it was used before, etc. They cleaned it and after that they recommend me not to use it because it wasn't safe. It is an old house and it was not built properly. Overall they did a good job. I strongly recommend this service.

The company called immediately after buying a coupon; upon scheduling an appointemnt, the company called a day earleir to confirm date and time; came on time and also called 20 min before they showed up on the door; performed good work; called after performed work to see if we were satisfied; We, as working people with not much spare time, appreciate the responsiveness and punctuality.

Fred himself performed the service and his was very professional, worked quickly and was very clean. His staff followed up to make sure I was satisfied with the service. Very good service!

Freds-JFT Is very customer oriented. The day before, the office called to confirm and to let me know that Chris would call to let me know he was on his way the next morning. Chris called as promised and arrived promptly. He explained what he was going to do and showed me the finished product inside and outside. The basement was spotless when they left. They were very efficient. I'd gladly use them again.

Everything went very well as described above.

The owner was so concerned over my concerns he prioritized any request i had and also made it a number 1 priority to make sure i walked away happy. He accomplished that. He was apologetic for any prior misunderstanding and honorably stood by his reputatation and made good on any promise he made, far overachieving on the satisfactory scale. This is what it is all about..For me it is about being a stand up business man and honoring your obligation and prioritizing the customer's concerns. This is exactly what the owner did.. And i am happy to leave this review giving him a stand up endorsement. He will address any concerns you have immediately and honor his word. i cannot be more emphatic; use this vendor. I am very happy with the service i have received.

everything went smoothly with the job.

I think it went smoothly. I don't have any suggestions for how it should have been; this was the first time I had my foof cleaned. It was an option, because the contractor who worked on my house said not to power wash the roof it would ruin it.. So it was okay ,I would have the roof cleaned this way again.

They arrived a little late which is why I gave a B for punctuality. They were there all day. All the men were professional. They were there to do a job and they did it very well. They explained everything. They stopped to answer my questions. When they were finished, my house and driveway was spotless. One of the gentleman actually called and left his cell number should I have any problems with anything. A fun yet professional group of gentlemen, who knew what they were doing and did it with a minimum amount of fuss. Btw, the date may not be accurate, but it was done withing a week of Aug 1, 2012. (I think)

They arrived on time and installed my liner and crown. Very happy with services rendered.

After cleaning the dryer vent, without my permission, the serviceman inspected my chimney which I had not anticipated. I had assumed that the safety inspection referred to on the coupon related to the dryer vent. He displayed a slight change in attitude when I was not prepared to have additional work done.

Booking the appointment was easy and the receptionist was very helpful. They called to let me know exactly who would be coming and when- it's nice to know the name of the guy showing up to your house. Chris was friendly, polite and professional. The follow up phonecall was nice too. I will definitely use these guys again- I'm glad to know they also do caulking and gutter cleaning.

Fred's chimney magic workers Chris & Nacho showed up at 9:40, they introduced themselves and explained what was to be done. They put down rugs on our floors & were very respectful of our home. Chris called me down to the basement to watch him perform the cleaning on the oil burner chimney from inside the house. I watched as a good amount of soot and ash fell to the bottom of the chimney and could tell it was getting a thorough cleaning. They also cleaned the fireplace chimney as well. It took about an hour and I was very satisfied with their work and professional attitude. The price for two chimney cleanings was $118 I thought was very reasonable. Chris did an inspection on my oil chimney explained the condition of it and said it could use a liner IF I wished. The price he gave me for the liner was reasonable and he said call the office if I wanted the liner. I am thinking of getting the liner installed as it seems to be a very safe and economical choice. I felt the service, price and inspection where great and I felt more than comfortable with this company

This is a very mixed bag story. I needed two things performed: dryer vent fix/clean plus chimney cleaning and recommendation/estimates for repairs. When they arrived, they thought they were here for a chimney cleaning only. They didn't know about the dryer vent. It was a hot August day, and it was late in the afternoon and being that I have worked outside in the summer during my own life, I understood that sometimes things get confusing. They attacked the dryer vent immediately, and completely fixed it. My dryer was venting 50% outside and 50% into my garage due to broken piping and unsealed connections. They fixed this 100%. The dryer is working great, thank you. They were on the roof at my chimney and they were in the basement with a vacuum, and they said they cleaned the chimney. After they were done, they gave me an estimate for the chimney repair. It was an estimate that fell in the same "ballpark" of other estimates I received. Since I always need a few estimates, I called a second guy. When he showed up, he undid the piping by the burner to look at the chimney and it appears the chimney had NOT been cleaned. There was as much sediment there at the base than there was before the first company showed up. I never called Fred's Chimney Magic back to complain because I paid a fair price for a dryer vent cleaning, which I needed, and I wasn't going to waste my time harping over $25 or $50 for not cleaning the chimney properly. I just figured I wouldn't use them to work on my chimney. Based on my experience, I would use them for a dryer vent cleaning but I would not use them for chimney work. Updated: 10/9/2012 Fred, the owner of the company came by my home on 10/8, but I was not there. He left his number, with a note and said to call him. Today, 10/9/12, I called Fred and we spoke for about 15 minutes. He wanted to understand what happened, and I said what I said above: The dryer vent was completely repaired but I feel the chimney was not cleaned. He started mentioning terms that I did not understand about the parts of the chimney that are cleaned and that are not cleaned. I told him that I'm not in the chimney business, and I didn't understand the terms he was using. I could only tell him that the chimney "base" - was loaded with debris--the same debris that was there prior to the service call. He wanted to come take a look at the work done to make sure that they had not made a mistake. While I appreciated this, two things: One, I have already had all cleaning work redone and liner work done by a different company. Two, as a small business owner myself, I work 80-90 hours a week, and my wife works 40hrs a week. I simply do not have the time to arrange to have him come back and inspect. As I said in my original review, and as I'm saying now, our dryer vent was horrendous---I knew it needed to be cleaned badly. Cleaned is an understatement. I was more than happy to pay the $150 for the proper dryer vent cleaning because again with the amount of hours I work, I needed to know it's fixed and it was. I had an issue with the chimney cleaning, and like any company, he's calling to see what might have gone wrong. Fred offered to refund my money for the chimney cleaning if he could come by and see, but again I told him that I'm not trying to take any money back from him -- I appreciated the dryer vent being cleaned properly and I'm fine with paying the $150 for that. I can now breathe easy for my wife and 1 year old son that when laundry is done, things are working as they should. Anyway, that's some good customer service I experienced today, and I like to see that. Fred did what any diligent business owner would do; contact the customer personally. For that, and his willingness to investigate the issue and/or refund was appreciated, but not accepted. Based on today's conversation, I'm revising my grading scale for this particular instance. As a small business owner myself, you cannot lay awake at night agonizing over one review that doesn't meet the standards you set. It's going to happen, no matter what. You cannot please 100% of the people 100% of the time. Everyone is entitled to an "off day". Anyway, I appreciated the follow up, and again thank you very much for fixing my clogged/broken dryer vent. Money well spent. Take care.

The venting on my dryer was so bad it could have caused a fire. They replaced it. I also had them clean the chimney and put a cap on the plumbing pipe. The were wonderful, professional, courteous, responsive, and also very kind from the first phone call. I highly recommend them.
