Fred's Chimney Magic

I bought the job tru Angies list. They called me. They were on time. They did the work. I paid. Nothing could have been easier.

Everything was professionally installed and I have had no problems at all with my chimney or wood stove. The technician was engaging and professional. I intend to use Chimney Magic for regular cleaning and upkeep going forward.

Excellent experience over-all. Tom was very knowledgeable and professional. Urgent work was done immediately. They had all supplies available in their truck. No need to make another appointment. Will consider them to clean and power-wash and water-proof our mossy bricks in the near future.

Chris was very professional and personable. He recommended I change the old flexible hose to a solid metal one to be up to code for extra charge and did so on the spot. He also cleaned up afterwards.

I had been ripped off by the people who did my heating unit after Sandy and needed my cement wall in basement jackhammer to allow them to pull the metal out that was stuck too far into my flu. I couldn't even tell they had been there by the time they were done. They cleaned up everything and with all the problems they encountered, they had a smile on their faces and were extremely pleasant. Tom, if I remember correctly went above and beyond what I had expected. Even Annette in the office was as sweet and concerned as can be. Extremely pleasant experience. They showed up when they said they would. They stuck to the estimate they gave. I couldn't be happier!

Fred's Chimney Magic/JFT charged me the market price, they came in, they said what they were going to do, and they did what they said they were going to do.

The business if very friendly and helpful. The technicians who came were knowledgeable, quick, and friendly. The only thing to know: homeowner needs to be home when service is performed, not just anyone. We had to reschedule the first time because although I had workers in the house who could let them in, I wasn't there. A company rep called to follow up after service was performed, to make sure that I was satisfied and that everything had gone well.

In our initial experience with Fred's, they did a good very good job explaining what had created the blockage in our chimney and why a new chimney liner should be installed. After several months, we decided to follow their advice and use Fred's,again, because we found our initial experience to be very professional- courteous, clean and thorough. The communication was very good with the office staff and personnel who performed the work. We had the same positive experience when the two men installed the liner and cap. They were punctual and did not rush through the installation. The installers expressed genuine interest and pride in their work and cleaned up appropriately when they were finished.

Theydid a good job from what I could tell. They accidently broke a plastic loover on the exterior dryer vent cover. They came back the same week and replaced the part.

Individual who set up appointments very professional. Original appointment had to be cancelled due to snow and she was timely with contacting me and rescheduling.

My husband and I had been living with a broken fireplace damper for several years...finally we joined Angie's List to find a reputable chimney company and found Fred's Chimney Magic. We chose them because of their excellent reviews! We made an appointment for a chimney cleaning. Our chimney was cleaned and an inspection was done. everything was looking good. we knew we had a broken damper, so we asked Chris, the technician from Fed's Chimney Magic, to give us an estimate to replace or repair the damper. he did the cleaning and inspection, and everything looked good. After the services, Chris his associate Alonso, tested the draw by lighting a small piece of paper. All great, so Chris gave us an estimate for the damper, which had to be replaced, on the spot $389...we asked him how long it would take to be replaced and he said 20 minutes. My husband surprised at how fast it could be done, asked next, "when it can be done"...the reply was, "right now"...my husband surprised again, asked, "you have a damper in the truck? now?" Chris said "yes" We were both so impressed that the service could be taken care of on the spot, one appointment. We were so happy! And a great "Locktop TM" damper was put on top of the chimney...it seals so well that there isn't a draft at all! We had been living with a draft for so long...ahhhh a working damper. We are EXTREMELY pleased with the PUNCTUAL, QUICK, EASY, CLEAN, and KNOWLEDGEABLE technician Chris that did the work for us!!!! and his assistant Alonso was so nice and courteous! We could not have asked for a better experience than this!

This is a now an update to my earlier review of services performed by this company. After receiving information that my dryer hose was not able to be cleaned because of its composition, I decided to ask the person whom I have used for the last six years for all my repair work to buy and install a new dryer tube or hose. He bought one and brought it to my home to be installed in my dryer. I have a stacked unit in my kitchen and iit hadn't been out of its small cupboard space since it was installed in 1998. My handyman was able to bring it out in order to facilitate the exchange of dryer hoses or tubes after a great deal of effort. To the amazement of both of us, there was no dryer hose, tube of any kind leading from the dryer to the metal pipe leading outside. There apparently had never been one attached. I then looked at the vent outside the house where the tube would have led if I had had a tube, and it was completely covered by a plastic well cover which had been anchored there since they were installed several years ago and was never removed. This means that when I was told my dryer tube was impossible to clean that I was being lied to. These workers had not seen any dryer tube of any kind, nor had they tried to put a brush and vacuum up the vent to clear it out. I would now never suggest hiring these people and I am wondering about the results of my fireplace cleaning which up to now I had not worried was done well. Maybe because I am a woman alone with no "man" in my house since the death of my husband 7 years ago, these folks thought I would be easy to fool. I guess I was, as I didn't check on the work being done after seeing them begin the cleaning process at the fireplace. I only hope it has been cleaned to some degree. That's my story. It's all true so beware of this company. UPDATE : A DIFFERENT SLANT ON MY EARLIER REVIEW. PLEASE READ. I have since been contacted by this company to discuss the problem I had with their service people. In fact, the owner of the company made a personal visit to view the dryer, the outside vent, and to discuss the information given to me by the service people from his company. I have concluded that when the serviceman said my vent was made of plastic he was not referring to the hose or the vent itself but to the window well cover which is plastic, and which prevented him from getting to the metal vent that exists under this. He didn't fully explain what he meant by "plastic" which was the well cover, not the vent or the hose. I have to say that I was very impressed by the visit from the owner who was so upset at the review I gave that the came to see for himself what I was referring to and to get a clearer picture of the whole episode. I agreed to change my review, which is what you have read above.

When they arrived they found the chimney partially collapsed. They cleaned it up and explained everything that has gone on with it. They gave an estimate on correcting the issue. Explained the estimate fully and were very helpful. I will be using them to install the stainless steel liner.

Very professional and well organized. From the receptionist/office to the workers themselves, this company was very informative and helpful. Would definitely do business with them again.

All of it went well. I was not crazy about all the sales pitches for other products or services. But Fred is an experienced person in this work, pleasant, and the fireplace was very clean and they were done in no time.

The office woman that my wife spoke to on the phone was so very helpful and polite to my wife. And with so many bad chimney sweeps out there who would have just gone ahead and charged us even though we didn't need any service, why anyone would use someone other than Fred's is beyond me.

They came out because my boiler would regularly go out. After coming out they told me I needed to extend my chimney which would cost over $4000.00 because the airflow was causing the broiler to go out. I got 2 more opinions both went on the roof and looked and both said I would not need to extend the chimney. The 3rd person that came out, who is building a home for my friend, adjusted the pressure valves on the broiler for me and he said after adjusting those valves that the problem should stop. He didn't even charge me. I have not been having issues since. I feel like they were trying to take advantage of me being a single woman. I am glad I got more opinions.

Tech was punctual, professional and went a little further to help us out with the flue. Would recommend.

An excellent experience. I purchased a Big Deal coupon on line and Fred's Chimney called to schedule an appointment the same day. They accommodated my schedule and gave me a Saturday appointment. Chris and his helper arrived right on time. Chris could not have been nicer. It was a real pleasure meeting him and listening to what he had to say. He inspected my chimneys, swept my fireplace chimney and gave me a really reasonable estimate for a liner for my burner chimney. He explained what he found in the burner chimney and presented the case for installation of a liner thoroughly and easily. No hard sell, just simple facts. I will definitely use Fred's Chimney Magic again.

Everything went just fine - nothing outstanding, nothing bad.

The worker was very informative and offered information about my dryer venting that will help me to be safe. He was incredibly thorough and talked me through everything he was doing.

Was charged $59 for cleaning and $129 for nest removal. Initially I felt the nest removal price were a bit high until I learn that the entire pipe was stuffed with twigs. They had to try several methods in order to clear the pipe. Overall they provided a good service. However I felt their pricing for recommended replacement chimney covers were a bit overpriced after I found similar ones online for a fraction of the price.

My initial interaction was with the office to schedule an estimate. They were outstanding! Concerned , patient tried hard to accommodate my schedule and called to remind me of the upcoming visit. They also followed up after the visit. And worked with my insurance company to resolve some differences between the insurance estimate and the actual work done. Fred was a consummate professional from the minute we met him. he is so well informed and has excellent written materials to explain the work being done on my home We were impressed with his knowledge and chose his company to do the work for us. On the day of the job he arrived with two other men promptly. They went right to work even gaining the acceptance of my diligent " watch dog". When the job was completed the yard was cleared of debris and Fred explained every thing that was dene. The work was extremely well done particularly the repair to the chimney. There was a follow up call from the office to see if we were satisfied. I gave them a resounding YES. I understand why Fred is so highly rated on Angie 's list. I would highly recommend him ,

Their men came equipped with tools, protection and literature. An inspection was made of the chimney, then cleaned. The flue at the gas burner was inspected also and then an outdoor visual inspection was made of all vents, including the dryer vent. After all the work was completed, including the clean up, of which there was just a collection of their protective materials, their main man sat down with me and discussed the necessary future repair work and estimates. He even brought literature for a request I made over the phone and was quite knowledgable on the subject (wood fireplace inserts.) When we are ready to do the restorative work we will be calling on Fred's Chimney Magic. We were so hesitant to use anyone because we did not have any recommendations, but after seeing all the great reviews on Angie's list, we are happy we chose this very professional enterprise.
