Fred's Chimney Magic

I was happy with their service and I would recommend them to anyone. They were very thorough and professional. They did a little extra work for me and gave me some good advice.

He did a good job and was reasonably priced.

Everything went well, I assume my chimney is clean... They tried to sell me a whole bunch of stuff the day the came... Felt a little pressured..

The company is very good. I had been quoted up to $2500 by other companies which stated that they had to rebuild the upper part of the chimney as well as to replace the flashing. JFT told me that this was not necessary, and generally speaking all was in good shape except for some pointing and of course, the loose and missing bricks. Chris and Alonzo were extremely professional. They came to the door, showed ID, visually inspected the area and came back the next week to do the work. They were on time, and I received calls from the very nice lady in the office, who called not only to tell me when they were coming, but after the job was completed to follow up and make sure I was satisfied. There was one small issue that I had a problem with, and not one that I would have even called the company about, but since they called me, I told them, The woman in the office immediately set up a new appointment for the men to follow up. With all the rip-off firms out there doing this kind of work, I was very happy to find a company that I could trust and recommend to friends. Their 10% discount for Angie's List members also has paid for my membership several times over. A good deal!

Someone from the company came at the time they told us. He took a look at the gutters and said they were a chimney company and not a gutter company and that he couldn't do the work. My wife called the company back to ask for a refund, and the boss sent the worker back to perform the job. He said the deal was only for a certain length of gutter and the bill would be more. We had a approved the extra charge. My wife had to leave for an appointment, but before she left she had asked the worker about the Angie's list deal. He assured her that it would be taken off the invoice. At the conclusion of the cleaning, the worker presented a bill for $313.93. Our babysitter was home and she wrote a check for that amount. When my wife returned, she had seen the invoice and noted the Angie's list deal was not deducted. She called the company, and was told that they couldn't refund the money and we had to contact Angie's list to get a refund of the $129. When I returned, I saw the work was completed; however, the workers had left the garbage from the gutter cleaning in two bags by the side of the garage. I assumed - incorrectly - that whatever material they took out of the gutters would leave with them.

It was recommended that I have either a chemical removal of the creosote or a more aggressive metal brush removal. I chose the brush removal because the chemicals have their own smell problems and I was told that the chemical removal creates quite a mess over two days. The brush removal is very rigorous, and involves the placement of a vacuum cleaner over the entire fire box to keep the house clean and suck up the creosote. The cleaning work was done by Mike, who brought along another assistant. Within a few hours the smell was almost all gone from the house! I was skeptical, but Mike was confident, and when the office called the next day to whether I was satisfied, I had to admit it was like night and day. Now I want to get my fireplace in top shape for the coming season - our brownstone coop has only one thermostat for five floors and with colder winters, we use the fireplace as an added heat source. Will likely use them again!

They were fair on price and did a good job and showed up on time. The first time they came out they cleared chimney from debris from chimney that was setting off carbon detector.

The service appointment went exactly as expected. I called and they were able to schedule an appointment that fit my schedule. On the day of the appointment they gave me a 2-hour window that would arrive and they were spot on. The office gave me a call to let me know that the technicians were on their way to my house. The technicians were very professional. When the technicians arrived they walked me through exactly what they were going to be doing. All went well and they were completed in no time. I would definitely recommend!

Everything turned out great. They were straight forward. Everything they did was accurate and they provided pictures of the final results. Scheduling went well and they were able to come out when I was not home to complete the job.

They told me they didn't have the proper tools and they gave me an estimate of $2000 to clean my chimney. So I will be getting a refund. Update: They sent somebody else out to do the job. The second guy who came out was very professional.

Super prompt. Super friendly. The type of guys I wouldn't mind having a pint with! They were patient, courteous and even threw a few tips of chimney usage into the mix. I'd gladly have these guys over my place and under my chimney any time.

Company was responsive from the time I purchased the coupon to the day of service to post-service. The technicians couldn't have been more pleasant and knowledgable and made sure that I knew all that they were doing. Definitely would use again!

Price was better than retail and they have very good customer service (scheduling, follow up, etc.), but the particular service was not as professional as I would have preferred. The two guys they sent weren't in the house for more than 5 minutes before they started speculating about code violations with the chimney/flue and extra work that would be needed (not the purpose of their visit). After actually checking things out, they realized they were mistaken and apologized. But they still tried to sell us expensive chimney treatments that we just don't need. They cleaned the flue and checked for obstructions, and they were gone in 15 minutes. They didn't vacuum out the ash from the trap in the basement, but to be fair, the offer didn't specifically say that was included. I just wanted to note it here in case anyone was expecting it. And they did call me after and offer to do it for free next time they were at the house. In general, the customer service was good, and they've since followed up several times to make sure the service was completed and to see if we wanted it again next year.

It was fine. The service was adequate.

I was not present when they did the job, but my brother in law said that they were efficient and thorough.

I noticed the chimney was dirty and the clay liner was falling to pieces, so I looked into several local chimney companies. Fred's had the best reviews and has an A+ rating with the BBB. On the day scheduled for my appoinment we received a call from Fred's central office giving me an ETA for the technician. Mike arrived on-time and immediately started working. As feared the liner needed replacement. Mike explained the condition with no pressure to purchase the liner. Fred's had the best price of all the local chimney companies.

All went very well. Will hire again.

They were great and they did a great job! Scheduling was perfect and it all worked out well. There were two people here doing the work and it took about a day. They also came a head of time to assess the work and they were professional.

We purchased the promotion on Angie's list of a chimney cleaning and level II inspection for $75.00. On the day of service, we paid an additional $60.00 so that the oil burner chimney would be cleaned in addition to the fireplace chimney. Re the inspection, the technician visually inspected both chimneys from below with a mirror and flashlight. He was very kind and professional in his work, and took time to answer all of my questions. I subsequently called Fred's to question the limited inspection in contrast to what was advertised, and a more thorough inspection was immediately offered at no additional charge. This was recently completed to my satisfaction. The technician was thorough and professional in his work.

Although we can't afford to take care of the problem right now, we will be in touch with them in the future to take care of it because we felt that they had a handle on the actual problem. They were very responsive and professional and we appreciated them coming by to help us figure out this problem.

It went very well. Very professional and clean.

I was really impressed with them. They're great. We're still good to go and hopefully, as soon as this year, I'll have them come and do the work. You can even reach them on a Saturday. The owner is great in explaining and calling you down and pointing things out and what his concerns are. Very respectful. I think their prices is pretty good.

Very friendly and professional. They arrived on time and when they left everything was cleaned up. They made some recommendations for future work but were not pushy about it.
