Description of Work: Fred's service people showed up on time, were very courteous and professional, and explained everything to me in detail. However, the work was outside their service area. They said it was roof work and suggested we find a roofer. I was satisfied with their service and explanation, but, I need a refund to apply to the roof work. Thanks, Ray

Description of Work: Fred's Chimney, when I was trying to set a date for an estimate, that taxes would have to be paid in cash, and that was a provision set by Angie's List. I checked with Angie's List and was told that no such provision existed and that no such provision was included in the Deal details. When I called Fred's Chimney to explain that they had, bottom line, lied to me about the taxes, I was told, "Oh, we're sorry, that was told to you by a new employee." Of course it was obvious that no "new employee" would take it upon herself to say something like that. When I pointed this out, and referred what had happened to Angie's List, I was told that the woman in charge of the company would get back to me on July 1. This woman did call me, but instead of saying, "No, we do not collect taxes," she said, "Well, you can pay the taxes by check." I immediately informed her that I had no wish to deal with a company that lied to me not once but twice about paying taxes. She then said, "You can apply to Angie's List for a refund of your deposit. A couple of customers have done that..." The Angie's List representative said payment of taxes was not included in the Deal details, and I should make no such payment. I then said I would welcome a refund from Angie's List, which is why I am sending you this form. I have no wish to deal with another supplier, and would prefer to receive the deposit. I might add that the Angie's List representative I dealt with did a very good job at sorting out this issue.

Description of Work: Got the discount coupon from Angie's list. They came promptly, cleaned my problem area and left a reasonable estimate to minimize future maintenance. Money well spent with the coupon

Description of Work: Service provider was hired to clean a blocked dryer vent. The repair person came inspected the area, never even pulled the dryer away from the wall. He held his hand up to the exterior vent felt no air coming out and said it was blocked. (Yes we know, that's why I called them!)He told my tenant that it was a fire hazard and that we need to open the wall to fix it. He must be a superman to see through walls. Regardless I spoke to the owners rep on the phone and she assured me that I will be refunded ASAP by contacting Angies List.

Description of Work: Mike and Alonzo arrived after a phone call confirmation. They introduced themselves and went straight to work. They moved the fireplace insert out, which the previous company did not do, cleaning all of the fireplace and insert . Mike went up and cleaned the chimney from the top down. They cleaned up what little mess they made, gave me an estimate for some work they recommended. Mike gave me the bill and explained the recommendations and then they departed. They were professional, informative, and did a very high quality job.

Description of Work: FRED'S CHIMNEY MAGIC (1-800-696-7668) LONG ISLAND,NY The worked performed included the cleaning of the furnace chimney,and the fireplace chimney.The 34 year old chimney system which was rusting also needed a replaced tee section in boiler room,a stainless steel relining system,exterior,and interior stainless steel sleves were installed,and a chimney cap. The workers were thorough,polie,and they cleaned up at finish of job. The overall cost was 50 to 60% of other estimates I received. I highly recommend them.

Description of Work: I purchased the dryer vent cleaning special price. I have never had this done professionally but knew it was a good idea to keep the hose free of lint.. I have no comparison on this job - but after the gentleman left my clothes never dried completely as before the cleaning. I started having to put the clothes back for additional minutes for every load. I went to look at the outside vent and I did see lint hanging out of it. I have no idea why the clothes were not drying as completely after the service.

Description of Work: I have had a leak from the chimney and have had several orther companies attempt to repair it. One company said that I needed to have a completely new chimney installed (at a cost of $3,000), the second company did some work on the flashing and the third company did tar a section of the roof. (Actually a fourth company suggested a complete retar at a price of $1,200 which I though was a bit exorbitant. None of the repairs that were performed helped as the leak continued to worsen after heavy rainfalls. Finally Fred's service suggested that I retar the entire chimney and add a steel cap over the opening. This was at a cost of $625 (half the other estimate). They did the work the same day and that night there was a heavy rain. It's been over two months now and to date there have not been any leaks. I also want to mention how courteous and professional the workmen were. The job was done very neatly, leaving no mess at all. I would recommend them to anyone who has a chimney problem.

Description of Work: I contracted Fred's to clean my roof, and powerwash my deck and fence. They did not clean the roof as I thought they would. They sprayed a chemical to "fade" the roof that takes months to show any signs of improvement. They did not make it clear that they do not use powerwashing to complete this process. It was a waste of time and money. I would not recommend such a useless service. I had to higher another powerwash company to clean the roof and they did the job the right way. In the ad it says "Professional Deck and Fence Restoration" Notice it says "AND". Well they don't make it clear that they only do one of the services for the price.They did a small cement patio and my stoop (thats my deck) and said thats all you get for the price and it doesn't include the fence. They "restored" nothing for that price. They did an average job of powerwashing that I could have done myself. I did call and complain and they were nice, but their communication on exactly what they would provide when I booked the service was not made clear. They gave me a $100.00 refund. I feel they only did this because their main concern was me reporting the disatisfaction and a bad rating on Angies List. That refund plus more money out of my pocket had to go towards having someone else come and powerwash my roof. I am not going to be "paid off" to keep my experience to myself. It wouldn't be fair to other Angie List subscribers. They were nice in trying to handle the complaint, but I feel they are way over priced and I was not satisfied with the services they provided.

Description of Work: Excellent service. 2 gentemen came in. They corrected a problem that we were having with the flue and cleaned my chimney. Quick, clean and professional. I would have them back again!

Description of Work: The guy was great, punctual and even helped us install our fireplace screen. However, the quoted price to repair our chimney was pricey.
