Fred's Chimney Magic

From our first phone call to make an appointment we had professional and great customer service. The day of our chimney sweep, As this is our first home, Chris took his time explaining what he was doing, what to look out for and each part of our chimney. He was very knowledgeable and took the time to answer all of our questions. We were very pleased with the service and will be calling Fred’s Chimney Magic the next time our chimney needs to be serviced.

They arrived exactly on time, checked the connections on my dryer and cleaned out the vent. The technician was very nice and polite.

Great. Gentlemen provided us with education about damper in double-sided fireplace and gave us quotes for new chimney liner, cap and installation for our main chimney. It's old and uncapped.

I hired this company to do a safety inspection after purchasing a new home. Two people from Fred's came out and did the inspection and informed me that the chimney was in good shape, completely fine and ready to use. I tried lighting two fires once the weather got cold out and my home filled with smoke. I called back to ask that they return and double check their work. On the second visit I was informed that upwards of $1000 in repairs was needed, including a spray liner to fix drafts that were "causing the smoke blowback." I hired a second company for a second opinion and was told the problem is that there was an improperly installed liner in the chimney and this was causing the blowback. The second company solved my problem. I feel that Fred's technicians were dishonest and provided me unsafe advice that could have been harmful to me and my family. I will never consider them again for any job.

The service men arrived promptly. They took apart the fireplace and cleaned the control area. When they went to put everything back together they could not relight the pilot light. They called a supervisor for help, but he was unable to walk them through the process. They left and said they weren't charging me since they could not complete the job. The supervisor technician came later in the day and was able to restart the pilot light, but my control switch didn't function and I couldn't turn the flame on or off. He couldn't figure out the problem and felt he should shut everything off. He returned the next day thinking that he might have the answer, but no. He did return my payment and said that the company would send an electrician to figure out if it was an electrical issue. I haven't heard from their electrician and have called another repair company to try to fix the fireplace. I am waiting for them to come. Unfortunately, the supervisor tech told me his men should never have opened the unit up in the first place because it is a sealed unit. This really doesn't matter because the bottom line is they broke my fireplace. It worked before they arrived and now it doesn't. In all fairness Chimney magic tried several times to correct the issue, they didn't charge me and the receptionist, Annette, couldn't have been any nicer. My suggestion is for this company to explain what their services are and check out the customer's type of unit before accepting the job.

The two gentleman called before they came and they were punctual. It ended up being more than what I wanted to spend however they did show me the damage to my fireplace damper and were able to replace it. They pointed out a few other issues and provided me with estimates and told me these issues could wait until Spring. I appreciated it. The receptionist on the phone was extremely nice and very helpful. I would recommend and use again.

The snow was coming down the chimney and piling up in the fireplace. There were no additional charges. He didn't increase the price, he did what he was supposed to do. It stopped the snow from coming in the house, I was happy with that. I have no complaints. Yes I would use them again in the future.

Raymond was very professional; I especially liked how he took pictures of the cracks and the inside of the chimney thereby making it easier to understand what and why the work was needed.
