Fred's Chimney Magic

The estimate was only for what was actually needed to be done, nothing was inflated. I was told exactly what services they were going to perform, and they did everything they said and more (they replaced a missing shingle for me while they were up working on the chiminey). The crew was professional and pleasant, and I would use them again without hesitation.

They did the job, but I still had lint build up and they explained that the line needs to be replaced.

Sully and Alonzo from the company arrived at 9 am, exactly as promised and began working immediately. Despite the 90+ degree temperatures, they worked diligently until the jobs were finished in the afternoon. The work they did was excellent and everything was cleaned up as if they were never there. The whole experience in dealing with the company from the responsiveness in getting out to give the estimate, to the professionalism of the office staff and the 2 gentlemen who did the work was very satisfying. I will definitely recommend the company to my friends and will use their services again as the need arises.

Fred's Chimney Magic ( Fred Tarantino, Owner ) provided a 2nd opinion regarding correct repairs required to return our chimney and fireplace to safe conditions. Both fireplace and chimney were over 80 years old and we believed had never had any repairs performed previously. A prior vendor had performed a Video inspection and provided their recommended repairs. I found Fred thru his Angie's List listing and brought him in for the 2nd opinion.Fred conducted a visual inspection and also reviewed Video inspection report of 1st vendor. From the beginning it was clear Fred was both honest and highly competent. He definitely has excellent experience and track record.Our experience with Fred from start to finish was extremely professional. He responded to questions promptly and presented a solution that was both well defined and very competitively priced.Job took 2 days - only due to the complicated nature of getting both labor and materials to the job site ( a Manhattan coop apt ).He took care to ensure their work would not damage our apt.'s floor & furnishings. When his work was completed our apt was left as he had found it, except for a brand new fireplace and chimney. Installed chimney has a life guarantee and fireplace has 10 yrs ( for labor & materials ).IF all vendors were like Fred, dealing with Home Repair & Improvement projects would be a dream come true!NB : As installation was completed in mid-June ( 2012 ), we have not as yet used the new fireplace/chimney for its 1st 'firing'.We expect that its use will begin this Fall ( 2012 ). Should we find anything unsatisfactory with its performance, we've been assured any deficiencies will be correct at no further cost. Have no reason at this time to doubt actual performance of the fireplace/chimney will be anything other than excellent, just like Fred's job.With the arrival of this Fall ( 2012 ) should anything require an update to this review will provide such.Absence of such an update means everything was EXCELLENT.

Called about repair indoor and outdoor portions of chimney. Owner came, inspected and gave extimate. He explained reason from problem (condensation around chimney in attic and leaks inportion of chimney above roof). Work was done in a timely manner. No additional costs. Workers pleasant, professional and cleaned up well. We were happy with work and, just as importantly, felt that price and work done were approrpriate and fair.

I called on Saturday and they came out on Monday to do a dryer vent cleaning. They were prompt (in fact they called and said they could arrive early) and did a very thorough job for a great price. I had called another Angie's List provider and received a quote for three times what they charged me, to clean me dryer vents, but I can't imagine that the other provider would have done any better job. I never knew how much lint had collected in our vents. I would definitely use them again and will recommend them to my friends.

I wasn?t very happy with everything that they came up with and what they said was necessary for me to do with the chimney. The cost of the chemical spray that we desperately needed according to them was over $400, and if it didn?t work, they would come back and do it a second time. But lo and behold, it worked the first time and how was I to know, I was not climbing into the chimney to take a look. When they said they would call and come back in the spring to do the rest of the service, I never asked them to call, because I was quite annoyed by that time. I said that I wasn?t really happy with the price of the chemical spray, and she said that they could adjust the price, but I told her it was not necessary. I have never had my chimney cleaned in thirty years, and they told me that I needed a new liner, that they would make the top of the fire box really smooth so that the smoke would go right out, and I had to patch the outside of the chimney with concrete. They also said that I needed a special vent fan on top of the chimney to get the smoke out and lower the opening of my firebox because I was decreasing the size of my chimney by putting in the metal liner. I am sure that if the owner reads this will say that I am mistaken, and that I received services that were called for. The house has stood for fifty years with this stupid chimney and it works. I don?t think that my not doing it is a big catastrophe, because the fireplace works great. The salesman and the guy who did the work were extremely efficient, it?s just that they tried to sell me all those unnecessary things. Later (10/13/15): The chimney was built in 1950 during the home renovation, not in 1902 (it didn't exist then). I can't prove whether or not the previous home owner cleaned it or not. I know a chimney can be dangerous, and I don't like them saying some people. I also am offended they're offering to say a little prayer for me. Also, why did they offer to reduce the price when I complained about it - why didn't they give me a fair price to begin with. Also, they've been calling me a lot saying that I wanted them to call me back, but I never did.

What impressed me most was the professionalism of the team that came to clean the dryer vent. They came on-time, announced themselves with badges so that I would not be concered about inviting them into my home and assessed their ability to perform their work. Unfortunately, they could not perform the vent cleaning because the vent was not in-code and because of this, their cleaning equipment would not fit through the pipe. They then provided the pages from the NY Building code to present to my landlord, did not charge me tax on the service, told me that they would forward the fee paid for a cleaning when the pipe was fixed and provided a proposal to fix the problem. They were so professional. These guys understand customer service. Use them.

The process went very well. About one or two days after I purchased the coupon, I received a call to set up an appointment. I also received a reminder notice about the appointment. On the day of the appointment, they were delayed, but I did receive a call to advise me of the delay. Once they arrived, they proceeded to the cleaning of the vent very efficiently.

I hired Fred's Magic Cleaning to sweep the chimney on my oil burner furnace after having a mason rebuild the chimney. Fred and his team were on time and cleaned my chimney. He suggested a few items that I needed (chimney cap and a cap for another vent), which I had installed. He looked over my fireplaces and explained which ones could be used and what would be needed to use them (I just purchased my home) He also explained that I needed the chimney lined. He explained that the high efficiency boiler I had was creating an issue at the top of my chimney that would cause it to deteriorate without the liner. He clearly explained everything and showed me information on what he was suggesting. He also brought a binder of prior work and places he had worked on.I declined to have the chimney lined as it was not in the budget at that time, but was grateful of Fred's explanation and would use him in the future for any other work.

The men were very nice. They did an excellent job, and my dryer is working excellent now. They showed me how to clean out my other vent also. They were very neat, clean and pleasant.

. They were efficient, clean, very professional. True to their word for being on time. I will be an annual customer from this forward. I would & have recommended them.

It was an exceptionally satisfying experience with a new contractor

First called Fred's service because we needed dryer vent cleaned outHis service arranged appointment, he was on time, totally prepared, and did the job right.When asked, Fred gave advice about condition of old chimney.He was straight forward, honest, very knowledgeable - so we had him come back to do chimney repair, chimney lining, and have some doors and windows caulked.He is very professional about his work.All services were done expertly and quickly.Clean up was perfect. Everything was left in much, much better shape than before service.We are very happy, would call him before anyone else. We would definitely recommend his services.

The technicians determined there was no fire hazard. They came up with two possible solutions for me to consider. They did not pressure me to make a decision at that time.Considering the time they spent here, the service fee was quite reasonable. I plan to use them to periodically clean out my dryer vent.

They were very good. They were very reliable, pleasant and friendly. I was very satisfied with the job and would recommend them. I would consider having them come back to do other work around the house. They said they clean gutters so I intend to call them when the tome comes to clean mu gutters. They cleaned up after themselves and everything was fine. I thought the price was good.

The job went well. The gentleman was surprise at the age of the dryer and the condition of it after twenty-two years and serving a family of twelve at times with dryer usage of three to four times a day

it went excellent. there was not as much lint in the line as I expected (good thing!) so it is a service i may not have really required at this time. therefore, the price was more than what i needed but there was no way to know that before hand. now I have peace of mind so it was worth it. They were very nice and seemed to do a great job.

They were very accommodating in choosing a time, came when they said and called to let us know they were coming the day before and the morning of the service. They did a good job cleaning the chimney, offered a lot of information about chimney maintenance an d called the next day to follow up to see if the service was good.

Smoke that smelled like garbage was backing up from my fire place (not very romantic). Cleared up the problem and now every smells like cedar again and no more smoke. Excellant!

My wife liked that they made a confirmation call to tell us they were on the way prior to their visit and a follow-up call after the service was performed to ensure our satisfaction. The employees were courteous and knowledgeable. We would definately use them again and would refer to our friends without hesitation.

since my friend's house fire, caused by the over-stuffed lint in her dryer hose, i have been "sleepless in seattle.' now, i can rest easy since Fred cleaned my dryer hose of all lint. i am so glad they had this special and hope they run a special for power-washing the siding on a home. i live on a fixed income and look for "deals" all the time.
