Extremely well, even though. because of a scheduling problem, I didn't use this company this time. I called A-1 Plumbing (Mr. Gismondi) on 30 December 2010 and for valid reasons (which he explained), he could not schedule me before mid January 2011. When I told him I would contact your next recommended service, he suggested I call him back if the problem wasn't solved, as he would keep me scheduled. Now that might not seem like much of an accomodation on his part, but I was most impressed by how genuinely helpful he was in explaining standard practices such as billing and procedures, before and after he knew I would possibly use another company. Mr. Gismondi was punctual in returning calls and most professional in our phone conversations, taking the time to guide a novice. I would definitlely call A-1 Plumbing in the future.

They were very good, did a lot for me. I called them mid afternoon and they came the next day. They were able to fix the problem the first time and were reasonably prices. Very prompt. I would defiantly recommend them to others.

Called and explained problem. Nick suggested sending picture of bathroom sink and fixture to determine brand. ( It was not evident to me what make it was.) I e mailed to him and we scheduled service appointment. He diagnosed problem with leaking faucet, suggested cost effective solution with no distruption to pedestal sink. ( Sink was affixed to tile wall.) Faucet cartridges were not stock parts. He was able to source at local plumbing supply store. Repaired faucet, replaced washer and reset handles. Nick communicated throughout the process. His work was first rate and professional. I would not hesitate using him again for future plumbing work.

I called on a Monday, not an emergency. Came the next afternoon at the given window, after calling to say he was on the way. Very courteous, explained the cause and fixed the leak. Would definitely recommend and use again.

Dale arrived promptly in the morning. We discussed each repair job, what the reasonable options were, what his recommendations were with his rationale's, and then we decided on the plan. He left to go purchase supplies and returned and completed each of the jobs. He was very patient and pleasant to work with, was very comfortable showing us what he was doing, explaining why he was doing things a particular way, and how we could complete some simple problems on our own. Very knowledgeable and competent. Cleaned up after himself. I felt confident in his honesty and ability to complete the tasks appropriately. Pricing reasonable and accepted the Angie's List coupon. I would definitely recommend this company, and now plan to use them for some additional larger projects after this positive experience.

It was very difficult to get at the pipe and some of the drywall in the basement had to be removed. Nick did this himself without needing to engage a carpenter. Then he removed the toilet, cut away the old piping, and replaced it. This was a long and complex job requiring Nick to go back and forward between the basement. I was very pleased with the work, the clean up, and the way Nick kept me in the loop during the entire process. He was very thorough and professional. The final cost came in close to the estimate.

Nick was punctual, pleasant, tidy, and did the job for less then the estimate. What more could one ask?

I am overall satisfied with the service. They are punctual, professional and fixed the problem. However, I hope the serviceman has more experience and investigated the problem more thoroughly the first time so he didn't need to come twice (then the total should be a little over $100, which is more reasonable for a hole). I also hate to have to spend time and money to fix the holes on the wall on the 1st floor, which turned out unnecessary.

Nick was running late to do the estimate, so he sent Dale. Dale came, saw the problem, gave an estimate (without the Angie's List discount), and came back today to do the work. He tested the repairs by running water through each problem multiple times. When it was time to pay, he applied the Angie's List discount that I had forgotten about! Their work is warranteed for one year.

I had a leak in a few places under my kitchen sink. A-1 Plumbing came out and fixed it. I am very satisfied with the work they did for me. I do recommend them to all those interested in finding a great plumber with very reasonable prices.

Left a message for the company on Saturday (it was not an emergency and did not require a weekend service). Received call back on Monday and serviceman came out that afternoon. Although the fix turned out to be minor (replacement of a plastic screw nut), the company was responsive and professional. This is the second time we have used them (we also had them fix a leak in our kitchen sink) and we have been very happy with their customer service and professionalism on both visits. We will continue to use them as our plumber of choice in the future.

Nick came to my house around the beginning of May because I had a leak in all my bathrooms. He told me I can call the manufacturer and get all the cartridges for free, a saving of $260.00. Now tell me what other plumber would have done that? As long as I am living on Long Island he will be my Plumber. I have used a lot of plumbers in the years living here but he is the best one I have ever used.

Everything went great, no more leaks, no more whining noise.. perfect.

I had no hot water on Sunday so I called and left a message on their machine. First thing on Monday morning they arrived.

Dale, the plumber that Nick sent, was extremely thorough, organized and cleaned up after himself. He was punctual and completed the project in a timely fashion.

WE HAD WATER LEAKING FROM A PUMP ON OUR BOILER A FEW YEARS AGO AND CALLED A DIFFERENT PLUMBER. HE PUT IN A LARGE PUMP THAT NEEDED TO BE OILED EVERY THREE MONTHS AND HE TOLD US THAT WE REALLY NEEDED A NEW BOILER AND IT WOULD COST ABOUT $4,000. WHEN THAT PUMP SPRUNG A LEAK I CHECKED ANGIES LIST AND CALLED A-1 PLUMBING AND HEATING TO REPAIR IT AND TO GIVE US AN ESTIMATE ON THE NEW BOILER. THE GENTLEMAN FROM A-1 PUT IN A SMALLER PUMP THAT DID NOT REQUIRE ANY MAINTENANCE AND COST 1/4TH THE PRICE OF THE OLD ONE. THEN HE SAID THE BOILER WE HAVE IS FINE AND DOES NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED AND HE SHOWED US WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN THE FUTURE THAT WOULD INDICATE IT'S TIME FOR A NEW ONE. THEN WE HAD A DRAIN IN THE SINK IN THE UPSTAIRS BATHROOM THAT WOULD BARELY OPEN. HE DID A SIMPLE ADJUSTMENT THAT TOOK ABOUT FIVE MINUTES AND SHOWED US HOW TO FIX IT OURSELVES IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. WE EXPECTED TO PAY TWO AND A HALF TO THREE TIMES AS MUCH AS WE DID SO WE ARE VERY PLEASED WITH THE PRICE AND THE QUALITY OF THEIR WORK AND WE'RE GLAD WE FOUND AN HONEST PLUMBER.

They sent a person to look at the problem and that person was not able to find the correct problem. I imagine they are good company, but, I am not sure I would use them again. It was not anything really bad except that he misdiagnosed what the problem was.

the insides of my toilet on the first floor was broken, causing a small flood in the bathroom.So I called Nick from A-1 plumbing and he called me back within an hour. He came by the house that afternoon,checked the toilet and told me he would have to go to the person he buys equipment from to see if they had the part. He called me back that night to say he had the part,and said he would be back the next day to finish the job. And that he did.

About 6 weeks ago my toilet stopped working properly. I called a plumber recommended by a contractor. He made some kind of repair which allowed the toilet to flush if I held the handle down during the whole flushing process. He said he needed to replace a part but did not have it with him so he'd call at a later date and return. That didn't happen. After about a month the toilet was barely flushing so I called the original plumber but he was doing work out of the area and we couldn't find a mutually agreeable date. He said he'd call back but didn't. I called again about 10 days later and we scheduled a service call. He called that day and cancelled. Tired of not having a functional toilet, I joined Angie's List that night. I called A-1 Plumbing and Heating at 10:30 PM and left a message for them. They called back at 8:45 AM the next morning and they scheduled a service call the next morning, saying they'd be here between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Dale arrived promptly at 9:00 AM with a smile. He checked out the toilet, made the repairs and said that luckily I didn't need to replace an expensive part in the middle of the tank - it just needed to be unbent. He was also kind enough to tighten up connections on two leaky hoses outside the house, for no additional charge. Dale was cordial, professional and knew what he was doing. Now I have a well-functioning toilet. You don't appreciate it until you don't have it!

I called on 7/1 and they were able to come the next day, I was given an estimate of $100-$150 (depending on what was involved) + cost of supplies. Plumber arrived on time & completed the work, including drilling through cabinets in a little over an hour. The only negative was an incomplete cleanup. There were smaill peices of copper left on my kitchen floor and sawdust from cabinet drilling was not completely cleaned up. But the work done was definitely of good quality.

I spoke to Nick over the phone. I told him that when I purchased the house the plumber had not gotten a final inspection on the plumbing and that I had to provide one to the building dept. He told me that it would cost time and materials. He also mentioned that he would have to take over the plumbing of another plumber, and couldn't give an estimate. My cell phone call was dropped and thereafter I called him to set up an appointment. He said he was not interested and hung up the phone. At best, he was rude, at worst, displayed himself to be someone I would not want to work with. Reply to company response: At no time did I disagree with his terms. I never did get short with him, and I never hung up on him. He claims that I could have called him back right away and not to wait twenty four hours. I note that it took him three days to respond to my comment, yet he finds fault with my finishing my work day and then calling him back the next day. When I spoke with him on the phone, I was driving and in a poor reception area. Furthermore, at no time did he say, "thank you," to me. In addition, we did not have an appointment, and I never told him how to operate his business, period. I had no reason to do that. Nick was rude and I will never work with him under any circumstances. Be careful! It appears that he thinks he can fabricate things that never occurred in order to justify his rude behavior. Update: I have not looked at my posting since making it in 2010. Whoever replied to my comments before, had completely made up a reply. I had no reason to tell him how to do his work, nor did I have any reason too. Moreover, I had no motive to lie about what happened. The contractor's reply is unprofessional and untrue. I had to set the record straight here. My review is unbiased, and should cause others to pause before doing business with this company.

Prompt, professional service. Arrived on time. Good communication about the problem and what it would take to resolve.

It went very well with me helping as only one plumber, Dale was available. I was told this helped keep my labor cost down.

I had an major problem when one of my washing machine hoses broke and the shut off valve above the washer was unable to be turned off so with water all over the basement floor. The only alternative was to shut off ALL the water which now made it a more urgent problem(no water at all). I checked Angie's List and called the first local plumber with the most favorable reviews, which is A-1 Plumbing of Westbury. I explained my emergency and asked what the emergency rate would be and I was told there wasn't one, just the cost of the repair plus any parts and they could be there in an hour. Sure enough in one hour Dale was at my door and was very professional and friendly and got to work immediately. He changed out the old broken valves for brand new ones and attached the hoses and had me turned the main water valve back on and just like that emergency solved and piece of mind restored. He explained everything to me and graciously answered all my questions and even tightened two other valves when I showed him a little tiny drip. Dale was an absolute pleasure to have in my house and I will surely call and ask for him whenever I have another plumbing situation and I plan on telling everyone I know about the great service I received on a moments notice.
