Kaz Companies Inc

This was my second roofing project with Kaz Brothers (I previously submitted a report for them in June 2010) and I was satisfied enough with their work the first time that I contacted them again when I needed to replace the roof over the front porch. The project was not flawless, in that the roofer had to come back to complete part of the project that was overlooked the first time, but the quality of the craftsmanship in the end is great, and to me that's what counts the most. They've replaced the roof over a 1-room addition and the front porch, and when they time comes (hopefully in the not-so-near future) that the primary roof needs to be replaced, I'll likely call on them again.

I hired Home Depot to replace some windows for me in 2009 because they had a shorter lead time than Kaz Brothers. In retrospect, I wish I would have gone with Kaz Brothers the first time because for roughly the same price, I got slightly better quality windows and much better quality installation with Kaz Brothers. The project went smoothly with no unpleasant surprises, and instead of having several installers to finish the job in the least amount of time possible (as was the case with Home Depot), Kaz Brothers sent out one installer who took his time to do the job right, which resulted in a consistent quality in installation. I've replaced about one-third of all of the windows in my home, and I'll most likely be calling on Kaz Brothers again to replace the remaining two-thirds.

No estimate received. No work done.

Made an appoinment with Brian for June 30 at 11:00. Received a biography of Brian and reminder card about my appointment. He called at 10:00 the day of the appointment to say he was running late and would be there around 12 or 12:30. He did come at that time. I explained I wanted an estimate on detached garage roof. He said he would quote prices on gutters as well. I told hime I only wanted the roof estimate but he said he would quote the gutters separately. I went into my house and a few minutes later he knocked on my door and said his wife had a flat tire and he had to rescue her but that he had taken measurements and would call me later that day with the estimate. He did not call back and it was the 4th of July weekend so I thought he would mail the estimate. I called him on Wednesday (or Thursday) and he said he thought he had mailed the estimate. The estimate, dated July 8 in the amount of $6649, was mailed to me . The gutters were not priced separately so I was unable to compare it with other estimates.

We called them to come out for an estimate. They came out within two days. We had work that we wanted done. They came on a Thursday and said they would have the estimate done Monday. We didn't hear from them. We went into the showroom and looked at some things. They still didn't have the estimate. They said they would call us; they never did. We called them. They said they would call us back; they didn't. My husband emailed them. They said that they lost our information and would get back to us. It was runaround for probably six weeks, and we only got the deck estimate, not the estimate for the other work. Two guys came out: one guy that does doors and windows, and the other guy that does decks. I would never call them again. They were one of the businesses that did all of the types of work we wanted done, so we thought we would try to get it all done with one company.

Didn't get past the estimate, but the company responded quickly and provided enough information in a short period of time to allow us to make a decision.

In november of 2010 we noticed a water mark on the ceiling of our dining room. We suspected the leak was coming from our bedroom window on the second floor. We didn't know how bad the problem was until we lifted the carpet in April 2011 and the floor under the carpet showed extensive water damage and the floor was wet. We contacted Kaz and they sent someone out with a special gun to determine where the leak was. Not only was the window in our room leaking but our daughters was also. Due to the age of our home and the time of year we had to wait until the weather got warmer before the siding could be taken off without cracking. We had an approximate date for mid-June but unfortuneately due to the rainy spring they could not begin the work until July 5, 2010. They had to take off all the siding on that side of the house. The foam backerboard, plywood, and insulation was removed around the leaking windows. New felt, J-channel, drip cap, tyvek, insulation, plywood and foam backerboard was installed. The siding was put back on " without" any damage. The job was done on time and the gentlemen that did the work were extremely friendly and courteous. They answered all my questions. The job site was cleaned every night before they left. When the job was finished they ran a magnetic device over the lawn to pick up any stray nails and even washed the siding. I would not hesitate to call them again.

After a missed appointment & an annoying customer service experience with Hamburg Overhead Door (see my review on Western New York Door) I called these guys from Raynor. They told me they had a cancellation & a tech could be over in a few hours. The tech showed up as promised. He worked quickly. He was professional & experienced. He gave me tips on how to maintain the opener by myself to avoid having to call them back for easy stuff. He showed me how to operate everything including the keypad, remotes & wall mounted control module. He also gave me tips on the garage door I had, even though they did not install the door themselves. It was nice to have a company & a professional behaving & doing things like they should. I will definitely be calling them in the future if I need anything for my garage door or opener.

Brian S. ( the representative) came out and after looking in the attic told me that no work needed to be performed. I felt this showed that the company has integrity. As a single woman,this is extremely important as I have felt taken advantage of in the past. Brian was a really nice guy who took the time to answer my questions in layman's terms. The other thing that is important to me about this company is that they do not "outsource" the work--all work is done by their employees. I will definitely use this company again.

The contractor did a wonderful job with the woodwork matching the detail from our original woodwork. Unfortunately the installer took a sample of wood that was darker than the rest of woodwork in the house to match the stain. So when he stained the wood, the wood came out way too dark and it doesn't match the rest of the woodwork in the house. We complained to the owner but the complaint fell upon deaf ears. We ended up with a beautiful window that doesn't really match at all.

We chose Kaz Bros. to do our work for a few reasons. Out of 5 estimates we obtained Kaz was one of the slighlty higher estimates (by 500.00) but we had more products to choose from and we felt they were good quality products. Others tried to talk my husband out of new construction windows or would not offer them.We were very happy with our decision. They were very prompt, showed up early and worked very hard all day. No extended lunch breaks!! They worked with us on price-we did the staining for the new trim around the windows- they let us know what extra costs would be before additional work was done. Separate work orders for all additional work. overall- they did a professional job on the windows and siding. They were professional, cleaned up spotlessly after each work day and at the end of the project

Very good! They actually repaired a leak multiple times for free that ended up being my fault.

They did a great job. I recommended them to a friend of mine and he was happy with the roofing but he had some other work done he was unhappy with. I was very happy with them. They just did everything very well. Especially the cleaning. It was a roof tear up so it was quite messy but they left it in better shape than they found it.

Not only was the company slow to schedule the work (end of August); the window trims were not painted; there was damage to a door jamb and the back stairs were unacceptable. They did eventually complete the painting and repaired the door jamb satisfactorily but in no way remediated the back stairs having only removed 2 protruding nails and reattaching a broken piece of wood that had already come off. Having now done several remodeling projects, I have to say I've never had to put so much effort into getting a project completed. A lot of handholding and supervision required with this company.

I would give them an outstanding recommendation. They did a great job in putting a new roof on my addition. I would highly recommend them to anyone for remodeling work. They were very courteous and accommodating for all my requests. They fixed the siding without me asking and without charging me. They did a very good job. I highly recommend them. They are outstanding. The quality of work is excellent. I have had no leaks since they put the material on. They followed all my requests. They were very cooperative and accommodating. They are very sensitive about their reputation.

The sales person was extremely knowledgeable and the quality of the products that they used was very good. I wasn't actually here to see anybody, but the finish product looks good and hasn't been an issue. It looks like they did a good job. They did it quickly, but we both work for crime so we weren't here to interact with anybody. They cleaned everything up and there were no problems with the clean up. I didn't have to do anything. The only person that I had contact with was the sales rep and then the project leader did call on the phone prior to coming out because there were weather issues. Both the individuals were very professional and friendly. They did the work when they said they were going to and the length of the job just took as long as they said it was going to be. They didn't drag or anything. They do a lot of other things so I probably will use them.

Overall, the craftsmanship is excellent-- as the new roof and gutters look good and function well. However, there were snags along the way. First, I was not overly impressed with the primary roofer who continuously forgot things and griped about not having the proper help. Considering how long of a lead time there was for the project, I was surprised that the primary roofer did not have the proper help for the project. Second, the clean-up crew performed an abysmal job. Most of their time was spent talking very loudly on their cell phone using insulting, derogatory terms, that I found to be personally offensive. Beyond that, they left debris all over the yard, including several nails in the shared driveway(!). Kaz Brothers did redeem themselves with regard to the damage that was done to the interior walls/ceiling. The damage occurred partially from the force of the tear-off and partially from the leaking roof. Being partially responsible of it, they were generous enough to make the necessary repairs at half the cost. In the end, craftsmanship is what's most important to me, which is why I rated Kaz Brothers with a "B". Despite some of the snags, for the most part they lived up to their solid reputation.

Called for estimate. Arrived on time. Reviewed roof. Recommended tearoff and "golden pledge" package. Quoted $11k. Later that day, I noticed the angie's list coupon "free golden pledge warranty upgrade". Sent coupon to Kaz representative, asked for silver package pricing. Kaz rep said they dont price silver only gold. End result: would not honor angie's list coupon that is displayed on their listing. Over all work went smoothly but took longer than estimated. Work was done well, site was cleaned well, my only gripe is that the coupon should not be posted on angies list unless the vendor honestly intends to offer the discount.

Kaz Brothers had come out rather quickly to do the estimate but was booked up and as a result had to wait some time for the window to be installed which was no problem for me at all. I was not home when they installed the window but everything was clean and the window looks perfect.

Their bit was 3 times higher as the person underneath them. That was such a ridiculous difference that we opted to not use them.

The job went late, due to problems with the supplier. This was frustrating, but Kaz handled it as best as they possibly could. Their overall performance was great: estimate came in right on target; workers were competent, efficient, friendly, and neat. The new door looks perfect. We will not hesitate to hire Kaz again.

They did a great job and I really liked them. I am very satisfied with them. They were very professional and came on time. They cleaned up properly and they were great as well. Their estimate was quite a bit and there were others who had come out too. There was one fellow who damaged something on my property, but they were great. They didn't ask any questions and I was very happy with them.

Perfect. Very nice work and thorough cleanup. The workers at the site were very courteous and professional.

Great. They hit a week of rain delays, but that was out of their control. Once the weather finally cleared up they were working fast, got the job done in 2 full days, were in contact with me each day, very professional and did a great job. Excellent clean-up and minimal mess between days as well. Dan came for the estimate and was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Not pushy, and came in cheapest both last year and this year (I was originally going to get the roof done last year but had to postpone).

Everything with this purchase was excellent. The price of the door was not the least expensive quote I got but with the extra insulation, the quality of the hardware, and the warranty I felt it was the best value. Mike, the salesman I spoke with, was very informative and did not use any high pressue tactics. When talking about price for the different doors that I looked at he was careful to distinguish between the amount I would have to write a check for and the amounts that I would get back through rebate and tax refund. The installer called me as he was on the way to my house and arrived at the appointment time. His work was clean and very professional. When he was done installing the door he showed me the proper way to maintain it (what to use and where to spray). There was a rebate for the door and he had all the paperwork filled out and sorted so I only had to put it in an envelop and mail it. He also had the tax forms for the current rebate all filled out and ready to go for me. When we were shopping around one of our concerns was if our old garage door opener would work. We had not had a working garage door in a few years. I told the saleman that I would prefer not to buy one but would if necessary. I also told him that I would need to have a working garage door opener the day the door was installed. The installer inspected the old garage door opener when he got there and didn't recommend a replacement at that point. He was able to make the necessary adjustments to the old one which saved me about $300.
