Chris, the technician was very professional. Took time to explain each step in the process, completed all work, much of it unplanned initially, in a very timely & thorough manner. Cost was considerably higher than anticipated, but primarily due to additional work not anticipated upon placing call for service. The finding of the loose backstab wire connection in the existing garage outlet was unexpected and showed signs of repeated arcing - could have resulted in a fire at some stage. The addition of an additional dedicated garage circuit for both a refrigerator and freezer reduced the load on the existing circuit substantially.
Description of Work: Diagnosed & replaced faulty GFI breaker + loose backstab connection in outlet on same circuit. Added dedicated circuit & wiring to garage.

They were good. We had a coupon or discount package with them and they came out and did a lot of work on that coupon for not very much money and did it very well and courteously. We invited them out the second time when we did not have a coupon and it ended up being quite expensive but that may just be the contrast between with the discounted visit and the non-discounted visit.

Young man came right on time. He was very polite and professional. He wore the protective booties each time he came into the house. He found issue right away and clearly explained how it would be fixed and the cost. When I asked about the dining room light, he said could do that as well and gave me the cost of that as well. He left a magnet on my fridge with their number and also for a plumber that they work with in case I didn't have one (which I don't) and there were any issues for which I might need a plumber. I was able to use the 10% off coupon from Angie's list with no problems. I was very pleased with the work and result.
Description of Work: Diagnosed 2 issues, one that had created each outlet in kitchen stop working...one at a time, and then the other was the over head lighting. I also asked if he could install a dining room light I had purchased.

The installer said the 2nd bathroom fan could not be installed because there was no attic above it. This was completely wrong, as there is full attic above that 2nd bathroom (it's adjacent to the other bathroom). Clearly the installer was incompetent, or didn't want to provide an additional quote or services that day. As to the work he did do -- he did wire the ceiling exhaust fan into a new wall switch, and installed flexible duct work on the fan -- BUT HE DID NOT VENT IT TO THE OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE. Instead, he vented it INTO the attic. This is completely against code, and can lead to mold, mildew, roof replacements, etc. I was completely shocked to see that. He also did not have the new electrical circuit inspected - which I later found out from our town is also required. I called Lon Lockwood to complain, he apologized, and sent a different employee to the house. That employee proceeded to give us a quote on what it would cost them to finish the job the right way, and a quote to install the second bathroom exhaust fan. The quote included charges for them to rent a ladder and buy a drill bit. Really? An electrical contractor doesn't have a ladder and drill bits? Here is a customer service recommendation for Lon Lockwood Electric -- if your company completely messes up at a client's site (including doing things against building code), the right thing to do is to go over and fix it immediately - not to give additional quotes. Had you done this (and I gave you the chance to do so), I would have been impressed by the customer service and likely would have recommended you to others. Needless to say, after these two experiences, I did not invite them back. I will look for a more reputable company to finish that work, and to do other work in my home, and friends & families' homes. If anyone else has had any electrical contractors install bathroom exhaust fans in your house, make sure that they ducted it to the exterior of your home! Most people are probably unaware of the problems this can cause, and it's a relatively easy corner for contractors to cut since most homeowners to know about it, and likely don't go up in their attics to inspect the work!
Description of Work: Bought a $99 Angie's list big deal, worth 2-hours of work (est. $200). Hired them to wire and duct a bathroom exhaust fan (which was physically already installed in the ceiling), and install a ceiling exhaust fan (including wiring and ducting) in a second bathroom (additional quote and fees were expected for the 2nd one).

The technician that came was very professional and friendly and spent all the time necessary to explain and answer my questions. I really liked the service. There was a lot of emphasis on electrical safety and what products and services they offer to make things safe. Good judgement on the customer's side is required here. There's a difference between ensuring you have a safe home and breaking the bank on the latest electrical features and precautionary services. Still it was good to be made aware of the risks and the options. That great service comes at a premium though. The biggest surprise/disappointment was an estimate for installing directed recessed lights - $200/can! Likewise, replacing 2 light switches and re-wiring them in parallel cost ~$100. It would cost roughly $6000 to replace my electrical receptacles and wire them in parallel. I would consider Lon Lockwood in the future for ensuring electrical code and safety. But, I wouldn't ask them to install lighting. You may be better served by a general contractor.
Description of Work: Reviewed electrical layout and safety concerns. Replace a couple of light switches and an outlet. Provided estimates for parallel wiring, installed recessed lighting, and other items.

A motion sensor light on the outside of the house stopped working. After some initial trouble shooting I could not determine why there was no power to the switch. It turns out this was originally a 3-way circuit with a very old switch located on the outside of the house and painted over to match the siding. This switch had failed open. The troubleshooting took about 30 minutes and the final repair removed the extra switch from the circuit. The price was not the least expensive route, but I am a fan of the fixed pricing plan based on project and paying for peace of mind to complete the job safely and correctly. At the end of the day, some diagnostics and repairs take less time and some take much more but at least the cost is known up front. They may make it look easy but deserve to get paid for the experience they bring to the table. I would recommend Lon Lockwood and I would call them again should the need arise.

When Chris arrived, he took a quick look at the initial problem, then did the visual safety check included in the $59 fee for the visit. Upon completion, he wrote up some notes including options ranging from a whole house makeover to individual issues including the ones we originally called for, including cost to finance if we chose that route. We decided to upgrade the one room for now but plan to schedule him to come back in a month or so to do more upgrade work throughout the rest of the house. Chris got to work, and did a fantastic job not just silently working - he explained what he was doing to me step by step professionally in a way that I could understand. Could he have done it more quickly? Sure. But we had good conversation that will bring me back as a return customer, and I'm sure if needed, the job could have been done faster and still been done correctly and professionally.
Description of Work: We called originally because we had a switch that wasn't working, as well as some outlets that were old and outdated and we wanted them looked at/updated as we renovated a room.

It went very well. The technician was Chris R. We specifically requested him to complete the work, because he had completed previous work on the house when we were in the process of purchasing it, and he had completed our electrical inspection and walk-through. Chriss took the time that was needed to complete the job, and did so with attention-to-detail. He seems to care about what he does and how he does it, and he is very personable. We sent an e-mail to Lon Lockwood Electric to let them know that as long as Chris is an employee there, and the level of professionalism remains as high as it was, we would continue to use LLE for our electric needs.
Description of Work: We had a panel box upgrade, that included, the the panel box, new breakers, new service cable from the meter, and tracing all of the lines in the house.

Extremely professional and courteous service. Most of my requests were met in the two hours, with the exception of one switch which was rewired but not completed because the electrician did not have the right switch on his truck. He left it so that it could be easily installed, but as usual, we haven't gotten around to it, which was part of the problem in the first place. I would recommend the quality of the work performed by Lockwood without hesitation, but you do pay for what you get based on estimates for other work we needed. I am not sure I would purchase a coupon again as it was a bit like being trapped in a timeshare presentation after the work was completed. They offered to perform a free inspection and made (needed) recommendations.
Description of Work: I purchased a $99 for two hours of labor coupon. For the price, I had several outlets rewired. I wanted to have an outdoor outlet installed but did not have enough capacity at that time.

The gentleman who came to install my lights on the ceiling fan was very professional. He explained everything he was doing and was vey thorough when he performed the job. He also inspected the electrical outlets for defaults, which he found but I did not have the time or money for detailed rewiring. On the original Big Deal, I did not realize there was a time limit, so it expired and I had to pay an additional $59 as a service call. Overall, I was satisfied with the work done. My lights on the ceiling fan work great.

The actual repair/installation process was excellent. However, I found the add-on selling attempt to be heavy-handed. And, clearly the company's prices are on the very high end. I have subsequesntly had the services performed that the tech identified as critical by another contractor whose prices were much less and whose presentation was far more low-key.
Description of Work: This service was performed as part of an Angie's List Big Deal. The technician removed extensive wiring from my basement. This wiring had been used for a professional photo darkroom that has since been dismantled. He did a good job, worked very quickly and removed all of the debris. He then installed three outdoor light fixtures. He accomplished this all in two hours. He was very personable and professional. I would rate the quality of his work as excellent. However, at the end of the work, he performed a "complimentary" safety inspection. He identified some serious issues but also went on to recommend work that was clearly non-essential. For example, adding $800 worth of circuitry and lights to the basement. It may need one extra light. He presented his recommendations in a proposal and offered me a pen to sign the contract. When I informed him that I could not sign a contract without getting additional bids, he told me that his company typically charged 15 - 25% more than the competition. Subsequent shopping proved him right.

Thank you Member for your comment. You are correct. If you call 10 contractors, you will get 10 different prices. The difference is our technicians have had a criminal background check, have been drug tested and are professionally trained so they are safe to be in your home. We offer a safety inspection to find out two things: 1. Any safety concerns which most people won't know about until something bad happens. If you are interested in addressing these safety concerns, then we will give you an exact quote. 2. A life style inspection "Things you want". For instance a new light or outlet. Again, if you are interested then we will give you an exact quote. You were clearly not interested in the lighting for the basement, so he should have not even listed it as an option. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention and it will be part of our next training meeting.

I did not use this company.
Description of Work: Too Risky. I never went with this company. They wanted me to commit to a $59 service call to come and give a quote. The repair I needed was very simple, and they refused to give even a ballpark estimate on the phone. Basically, I would be out $59 bucks if their estimate was too high after they got here. Not very transparent and I take all the risk. No thanks.

I understand your concerns. We charge a $59.00 dispatch fee, which gets a trained technician out to your home in a guaranteed appointment time. Ballpark prices are rarely in anyone's best interest, because we have no idea what we are getting into. If we give a low price and the price of the job is higher then the customer is upset. If we give you a price that is too high then you probably wouldn't have us come anyway. If you don't find another contractor that your satisfied with, feel free to call us back. We will be happy to come take care of you.

My experience throughout this service episode with Lon Lockwood was of a top notch professional outfit, with customer service at the heart of their business model. Heather, the scheduler, went out of her way to respond to my need for a quick appointment -- and was able to fit me in the day after I called. Chris, the electrician, showed up on time, did a great job diagnosing my problem, and then gave me excellent advice about the options available to me. The work was then done immediately -- and very much to my satisfaction. My expectations were exceeded at every step of the way, and I strongly recommend Lon Lockwood to others.

Stephen explained the process and the pre-established Lon Electric costs for a given job, including travel, troubleshooting and labor. I appreciated the fact that all costs were pre-determined and based on the solving a problem or performing a given task. I prefer this approach over an hourly rate approach, which I believe is less predictable and more stressful for the consumer overall. The electrician troubleshot my overall GFI issue and made recommendations to solve that primary issue and offered to perform additional work to improve the existing circuit layout of my garage. He began repairing the primary GFI issue, while I decided on whether to have the additional work done. Overall, he removed unnecessary main home GFI outlets, consolidating them into a single circuit breaker. Once I decided to have the additional garage circuit work done, he ran an entirely new line to the junction box, replaced damaged outlets, and installed a single garage GFI that ideally suited my power needs inside and outside the garage. Stephen explained the work he had performed, showing me the new power and circuit layout then explained the overall costs in detail.
Description of Work: The electrician (Stephen) solved a redundent GFI problem by replacing a poorly placed GFI with a circuit breaker and removed redundent GFIs from the main house and outside outlet. He effectively separated the garage outlets from the main house to better distribute power and loading to help prevent circuit tripping.

I purchased a deal from Angie's list for Lockwood Electric to provide 2 hours of electrical work for 99.00. The technician Steven showed up promptly. We went over my to do list and he started to work First Item was a smoke detector what I had previously purchased.Next on the list were 3 light timer switches to be installed. One to control an inside set of lights and the other 2 to control the front porch light and the back patio outside . I had purchased these timer switches because they would work with the new CFL's Steven installed the first one but was unable to get it to work. On the off chance that it might be defective, he tried a second one. Same result. Since he had followed the instructions to the letter and had conferred with someone back at his office. and it still was not working he called tech service for the manufacturer. While he was on the phone they hung up on him. At that point I suggested that he put the original switch back in and finish the remained of my list.which he did. I plan on returning the switches to the seller. He then performed a check of the electrical system. It is adequate for my present needs, but it is about 30 years old and not up to today's code. I had thought this might be the case and was glad to have that confirmed. . We discussed the possible cost of updating the electrical. I will consider replacement in the future.+.I am totally satisfied with the company and the technician and the work that was done in spite of the problem with the timer switches As far as I am concerned the problem was with the manufacturer and not the technician or the installation..I will definitely use Lockwood Electric again and will ask for Steven to do the work. I will also recommend them to my friends.

Very knowledgeable. Punctual. Available on same day as the phone call. Friendly. I had an entire branch circuit go dead. The electrician confirmed that the breakers were not the problem. He went upstairs where the power was lost and the first device on the circuit he put his hands on was the culprit. He replaced that dual receptacle in 5 minutes, restoring the rest of the circuit. I realize that troubleshooting and knowing how to solve the problem is often worth much more than the actual repair. However, does a one-hour visit warrant of bill of close to $300? I also did not like that 1) the invoice for work done, and 2) estimates for suggested additional work were all part of the same form. So much so that I had to study the form for some time to see what was billing and what was estimates. Seems to go hand-in-hand with all the verbal selling he did during the visit.

The technician arrived on time and worked efficiently. I initially gave him a list of jobs and the replacement fixtures which I thought would take more than the 2 hours I purchese on a Big Deal. He went about his business and at the end of the 2 hours everything was completed. During the two hours he also did some electric inspection work, explaining in detail, and gave me a priced list of things that should be done to make my home and the occupants more safe. While he made his points well there was no sales pressure. You may wonder why I probably would not use Lockwood Electric services again when I thought so highly of their work. The answer is that I do not like their job pricing structure. I believe it is too high. The Angie's Big Deal price was great, but regular pricing is too high.

We are glad that you are happy with the work we did for you. We use an upfront pricing structure with no hidden fees and the cost of the job won’t change after work is started. Most of our customers appreciate this because there are no surprises. You can always find other companies that are less expensive, but to the best of my knowledge Lon Lockwood Electric is the only company that has technicians that are criminally background checked, drug tested and professionally trained. This means we are safe to come into your home and get the job done right the first time. If you are unable to find another company, feel free to give us a call.

The technician (Chris) was very friendly and professional. He took the time to explain everything that needed to be done. 1) install a customer-supplied ceiling fan with new box, wiring, and wall switches ($679); 2) rewire/replace (4) existing pull-chain, recessed, closet light fixtures with customer-supplied flush-mount fixtures, including wall switches ($1276); 3) relocate existing ceiling fan from living room to dinette area ($319); 4) install sconce and switch in living room off existing power source ($266); 5) install hard-wired outlet for garage door opener ($266) Even though the quoted price seemed very high, I put a $100 deposit down to have items 1 and 2 done. However, after contacting two other electrical contractors (both on Angie's List), I realized the estimated cost was outrageous ($1955). I called to cancel and was told that my deposit would be refunded minus a $59 + tax 'dispatch fee'. Although,I am still waiting for my refund. I subsequently had one of the other contractors do the work (items 1 and 2) for $668. (it obviously pays to get multiple estimates) I ultimately received a refund for $36.28.

Response from Lon Lockwood Electric Inc
Thank you for your feedback. I am glad that you were able to find a contractor to do the work that fit your budget and I hope all went well. I am sorry that our technician failed to show you the value in the work that we do, but our prices are designed to keep our company in business so that we can honor our guarentees and warrenties in years to come. Our technicians have had a criminal background check done, are periodically drug tested and have advanced technicial skills and well as people skills, so that you know that they are safe to be in your home and the job will be done right the first time. It does pay to multiple estimates but just remember that there is more to it then just the job. Its how that job is performed, the quality of workmanship, the type of person who is in your home and the warrenties and guarentees that go along with the job.

When investigating a strange crackling/buzzing sound coming from my basement, I was dismayed to find an electrical arc (spark) between an electrical conduit and my heating duct! I turned off the breaker and decided to call an electrician. I decided to call Lockwood Electric because I know they do work at the Susan B. Anthony House. I concluded that they must be skilled if they are trusted to do work at such a treasured local landmark as that. Making an appointment with Lockwood Electric was very easy. I called on a Tuesday and the receptionist was able to schedule a two-hour service window for the following day (Wednesday). Soon after making the appointment, I received a return call from Lockwood Electric letting me know that they had accidentally double-booked me. They offered to schedule an appointment first thing in the morning (8 AM) so that I would know exactly when to expect the technician. This worked well for me so I agreed. On Wednesday morning, it seems that the electrician scheduled to work with me was ill. Instead of canceling the appointment, the owner, Lon, himself showed up at my house to diagnose my problem. After ruling out any obvious issue with grounding or a switch, Lon decided that the problem could very likely have been a breakdown in the wiring internal to the walls or ceiling. He recommended a full diagnosis of the circuit. Boy, am I relieved that when Lon said he'd do a FULL diagnosis, that he meant it. After some extensive troubleshooting, he found that the problem was NOT with any wiring in the wall, but was instead the result of a poorly wired ceiling fan/light fixture. That revelation saved me the cost and him the frustration of putting holes in the walls to search for a problem that wasn't there. Lon rewired the ceiling fan/light fixture (correctly) and the electrical arc issue was fixed. (The scary part is that because some joker decided to wire up the fan without knowing what he was doing, this problem had been ongoing for years before I noticed it, probably even well before bought the house, exposing occupants to risk of fire or electrical shock) Satisfied with his work, I asked Lon to look at a few other electrical issues I was experiencing around the house. He quickly discovered the root of my issues and gave me a quote for what it would take to repair them. Of the issues, I asked that he replace a dimmer switch that had been flaky. I passed on the rest of the work for now as it was of little concern. Overall, I had a very positive experience with Lon Lockwood Electric. I was impressed by the dedication of Lon in coming out to my house himself when one of his employees could not make it. "We're a service company," he explained. But he didn't have to. His polite and friendly demeanor and his professional aptitude spoke better than words. While the work was a bit pricey, I wouldn't call it unreasonable. More importantly, there were no hidden costs incurred. Lon Lockwood Electric charges by the job (rather than by the hour) so it was made clear before each service exactly how much it would cost me. And, as I mentioned before, Lon's thorough nature likely saved me money by avoiding work that didn't need to be done. At the time of posting, an Angie's List coupon offering helped too. Being my first time using an electrician, I have no frame of reference for cost. However, I think the real value is peace of mind, knowing that the job was done correctly.
Description of Work: Lon performed a full diagnosis on a faulty circuit. This included load testing on each portion of the circuit (junction to switch, switch to fixture/fan and fixture/fan itself) to verify the location of the problem. When the problem was diagnosed, he rewired the ceiling fan properly. Lon also, replaced a dimmer switch and investigated some other ceiling fan issues that I was having to provide an idea of what work they might require.

Lon Lockwood electric is a company I will recommend and use for all my electrical needs. I initially had some issues with the first visit. Lon called and went over all my issues. Lon sent Chris back to finish the work . Chris is an excellent tech with great knowledge . I am now more than happy with the work was done. I said in my first review that I was "sales pitched"but now I understand that Chris was not trying to sell me , he was trying to make my home a safer place.thank you Lon and Chris
