It has not rained heavily since their work, so I cannot yet evaluate the outcome and quality. They were very quick to respond and do the job (much appreciated these days!!!). Their decisions about where to put the basins and drain were good (as far as I as a non-professional could tell). I was especially pleased with their choice of where to put the pipes across the driveway -- it was sensible, direct, and reasonably good-looking. I've had many contractors who did not understand water flow, so their understanding was welcome!
Description of Work: I wanted to divert water that ran off a slope into the garage. The situation was challenging. After careful study and multiple ideas, George and Bill created drain basins behind the retaining wall, buried drain pipes under the driveway, and channeled the water into another drain basin that will disperse the water in the lawn. They dug and filled in a small depression across the driveway to bury the drain pipes.

Bill and his crew showed up the morning we had scheduled them for and got to work straight away. My chimney was in need of TLC and Bill was the man for the job. He fixed the problem, matched the old mortar very nicely and went the extra mile to make it look nice and to have it be done correctly. He then went to work on a pergola that was at the entrance to my house and fixed some rotting wood and repainted the entire thing...then he repaired two areas of stucco on my house and patched up the cracks . I was pleased with the work and the care given and will definitely hire them again .

Surprised to see an and quot;A' rating....after mortar repairs on chimney,we were unable to open to open flue. Later found 35 lbs. of cement debris blocking the flue. While they were working on the chimney, they left hose water running all day and burned up the well pump !

They really made it all look better, and more efficient. The work looks great. He even touched up all the cement between the bricks on the outside and the inside of the house.

Bill Miles was easily reached and scheduled an estimate for the same day. George, the estimator telephoned prior to his arrival and was prompt. I felt the price was competitive and chose this company based on their responsiveness and the positive reviews. Work was scheduled promptly and completed on schedule. Chimney repair work was professionally completed. Bill, George and their crew were professional, neat and clean. I would use this company in the future and would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Repair to chimney consisted of removing 8 rows of brick and rebuilding with matching brick, installing 3 new flue tiles, molding new concrete cap on top and installing 3 birdcage caps.

I called for an estimate on 02/14/12. Received a call back on 02/15/12 and the estimator (George) arrived that morning. He performed a thorough inspection of the chimney, first examining the basement area and then climbing to the roof. Following his inspection, he provided two solutions and separate dollar estimates for each. I contacted George on 02/16/12 after I decided on the complete chimney replacement. He scheduled the job for Friday 02/17/12. George, Bill Miles and two assistants arrived at 9:15am on 02/17, which was 15 minutes ahead of schedule. They arrived in one pickup truck and two large vans. They showed me the new bricks that they would be using and the precast cement cap. They immediately went to work. They covered the ground work area and the roof area with tarps and drop cloths. They got all materials in place (bricks, new flue tiles, buckets, tools, etc.) and began disassembling the chimney. All removed bricks were carefully placed in buckets and loaded in the back of the pickup truck. The old bricks were later taken away. They also removed the old flashing. They assembled the new chimney, leveling each row. They installed the new flue tiles, the precast cement cap, and the new flashing. Then they reinstalled my existing chimney cap. After they were finished with the chimney, they removed the drop cloth and swept the roof area. They cleaned the ground work area and removed the tarp. One of the workers then performed some patching on the basement chimney area to improve its appearance. Before they left at 4:00pm, they checked that all areas were as clean as when they arrived. The job and the workers were professional. They were friendly, neat, and thorough. They worked the entire time they were here. The job was completed for the originally stated $1500.00. I will definitely call this company for future masonry work as well as recommend them to anyone needing chimney or masonry work. It was a pleasure getting what I paid for.
Description of Work: My second story chimney was completely removed and rebuilt with new brick. New flashing and a precast cement cap were installed. The three year old chimney cap, that was as good as new, was reinstalled.

As I said above, they were responsive, polite, punctual, and got the entire job done the next day. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for masonry work of any kind. You'll be well taken care of.
Description of Work: I own a brownstone from the 1800's in Troy, NY. The outside wall to the basement door began to collapse - it looked pretty scary to me! I have had Bill Miles do masonry work for me before (chinmey repairs, capping chimneys, repointing brick) and have always found Bill and his crew very helpful, prompt and excellent craftsmen. So I called George who does all his estimates and scheduling, and he came right down, and the next day (today), they arrived and got it all done!

excellent experience - I received a written estimate within a day of my initial phone call. I'm still waiting for some masons to call back and the job is already completed. Great customer service and could have had the job done sooner, but decided to wait until after the weekend before committing. Very professional and nice group of workers.
Description of Work: He repaired the upper portion of my chimney. Removed more than 70 bricks and built it up again. Added new flue tile and new chimney caps. He had three men working full time and it was done in less than a day. All debris was removed and the roof hosed down. I thought the price was fair and competitive for the cost of masonry work.

MEMBER COMMENTS - I got Mr. Miles' name from a neighbor who has hired him before. George, the gentleman who came to give the estimate was friendly and professional. The job was done two days later and so far the water heater pilot light has stayed lit, in spite of violent weather including very high winds. I am grateful that I have one less problem with this house to worry about !

They are sloppy in their work. They leave a mess, and they need to be supervised. We have had to meet with them several times to discuss their work. They hire unskilled laborers, and they have damaged our property. Often they arrive at noon or later and have failed to show on numerous occasions. They were unable to complete the job after more than a month and were unable to obtain tools they needed as they often ran out of money. In regards to the Bilco door they admitted they didn’t have much experience, even though when we interviewed them, they said they had extensive experience installing bilco doors. They are unable to complete the project so we are hiring other contractors to finish the work and redo much of what they did.
Description of Work: They installed new walk with flagstone and cover patio with flagstone, replaced basement windows, and are constructing a Bilco door, which they are unable to complete.

This is an update that I hope I can update again favorably. On Oct 1 we had our first heavy rain and my chimney leaked badly in a different place than the original and worse than the original. Called company said they would come next day did not show up. Called again 10/13 left message. On 10/15 chimney leaked again in another new place really badly almost reached my floor. This room was an addition and the chimney is inside the house. On 10/21 called again and left message.Ffinally on 10/27 he came and put some g*** on places he thought might be a problem. On 11/4 chimney leaking badly again and around my new crown moulding. Called company and a new guy came while it was raining and put a diverter on roof where he thought there was a low spot. This worked with some light rain we had but on 12/1 leaked again. Called guy next day a thursday said he would come that weekend it was nice and sunny that saturday never showed or called. Called him again on monday he called me back friday 12/10. said they were busy but didn't forget about me and would come. It is now Dec 30th and I haven't heard from anyone and my chimney is now leaking in 3 new places and is worse than before they fixed it. The weather is cold now and I realize not too much they could do but they had plenty of nice days before this. I will see what happens in the spring and if its not fixed satisfactorily I'll be going to small claims court. If it is fixed I update this report again. I am very dis-appointed and worried that this might eventually damage my ceiling . Below is my original report I called the company on thursday they came on tuesday as agreed for an estimate they did run late but called ahead of time to let me know. They would have come the next day for the estimate but that didn't fit my schedule. They were able to do the work the next day and arrived on time. The crew was friendly courteous and professional . We had a new roof put on and ceiling work in our living room last year. We had rain come in along our chimney last spring and the roofer came out and said our chimney needed repair. I had called one company that never called back and another who said they were pretty booked up and it would be awhile before they could do the work,so I was happy to get the work done quickly and efficiently before it gets cold. Of course the chimney work hasn't been tested yet need to have a pretty strong windy rain, but Bill assured me if I I have any problems to just call.Hopefully I won't but will update this report if needed.

He also filled in a half wall with cement but did not allow the heat pipe to expand. When I called him back about the problem he sent someone else out to look at it. The guy started to chip away at it wildly as he was mad. I told him to leave before he did any further damage.

Workers were very professional and efficient. They brought all the equipment they needed, including a 40 foot ladder and roof ladders. They were careful with ladder placements and custom cut the pieces on site with minimal noise. Only leftovers that they didn't take with them was some clay flue dust from the custom cutting. That was easily washed off.
Description of Work: Working on a fourth floor high chimney, the workers removed a mulberry tree from the screen over the flues, custom fitted new chimney caps and then installed a clean out door at the bottom of the chimney. Total time was 2 hours. They also identified to a neighbor that her chimney needed repair and provided her with a quote on the spot, which she accepted. Then then completed her work the same day.

I wish I would have gotten a more detailed written estimate. The job was "done" but looks unfinished. They were in a big rush to get done and asked to cut corners all along the way. Unfortunately I agreed and am now regretting it. They also took off with my extension cord and 4' pry bar.

The guys came right on time, the day they were scheduled to do their work and were done earlier than expected. Great group of guys working for Bill Miles Masonry.

The crew was able to start work the very next day after my phone call! They completed the work in a day and a half. The work was completed very well, very clean, and is guaranteed for two years by WA Miles. George was courteous, friendly and accurate in his description of the work to be performed in advance of the start of work. They were a bit rough on the yard with their trucks, but this was certainly not a deal breaker. I would certainly recommend WA Miles and will most likely hire them in the future to do additional work at my house.
Description of Work: Dismantled and rebuilt existing 1942 stone chimney from the roof line up (approx. 5 feet). Installed new clay tile flues at top of chimney. Formed a new concrete cap and installed new bird cage caps on each of two flues. Also ground out and repointed a pressure crack on the lower area of the chimney.

I thought the work was pretty good. They were on time for the estimate and on time to start the job. My concrete patio area that was already there looks like ornamental slate. I knew this company could not match it exactly, but I did wish the color could have been a little darker gray. I also wanted the concrete to have a slight pitch away from the house and they did not do that. The work was excellent, except for those two small things. I do understand that it is hard to copy another person's work exactly.
Description of Work: I had them pour a 2x3 area of concrete and a 7x7 square of concrete to expand my patio area. I wanted the concrete to extend all the way to the house so the rain would run away from my foundation and so that the actual patio would touch the house.
