I called and said that we have a clogged bathroom sink drain. Linda took my contact info and address, and scheduled someone to come out within a two-hour window the next morning. I almost said goodbye, but then thought to ask whether there was a charge for just coming out. She said, and quot;The service charge is $135.and quot; I asked her what happens if they give an estimate and I decide no. She said the $135 is for snaking out the clogged drain. I told her that the drain was slow moving a while back, so I had tried to snake it out myself and had gotten about 8 or 9 feet in with no luck, then had given up for about a month, and now it's completely clogged - I suspect they're going to have to open up the pipe down in the garage. I didn't go into details on the phone because she didn't seem interested, but I had used a hand-cranked cable auger and I know it was 8-9 feet because I had put some Whiteout on the cable once I got it in as far as it would go (I think it stopped at a bend in the pipe), and then I had measured that part of the cable. She kept saying that the $135 is for snaking it out, and I kept saying that I'm not going to pay $135 for them to come out and just give me an estimate. We weren't getting anywhere, so I gave up and cancelled the appointment. I've heard of companies charging about $50 just to come give an estimate, and I already think that's a bit steep, but $135 just to look? (And we live only about a fifteen-minute drive from their address.) Maybe I shouldn't have asked whether there was a charge for coming out, and then simply refused to pay? Why would a company not get the basic details on the plumbing problem before setting up an appointment - they just assume that every drain can be cleared by snaking it out? Why wouldn't she mention the service charge before making the appointment? Why wouldn't she offer to have someone else call me on the phone, once it became clear that it wasn't just a question of snaking it out? I feel frustrated.

It went very well. My husband called them on Tuesday and asked for them to come Wednesday morning. Two guys came Wednesday afternoon. One went upstairs to take care of the sink, the other went to our downstairs bathroom to change the leaky faucet. They were done and out within an hour. I was at work and my husband said he was very happy with them. They were professional and even gave us some advice about a leaky toilet.

My experience with this company is not different from any other company on Staten Island - extremely unprofessional.

This was not a big job but it was handled both pleasantly and professionally. I would like to think a big job would be handled the same way.

They do all kinds of work and do excellent work. They are very good. I didn't pay them anything the last time they were out here. I could not find the kind of thing I was looking for, and I could not expect them to go looking for it. They said when I found what I wanted they would come back and install it. They are nice people. They are very considerate and very nice to deal with. I think it's a family-owned operation.

The job went very well. They were excellent. They were friendly, professional, clean and on time. Their workmanship was excellent. They were not the cheapest - I paid for the quality I got. It took them a couple of days to get here. I have used them before and would use them again in the future.

Our existing gas water heater was almost 13 years old and working fine. We didn't want to risk a leak and possible flood so decided to replace it before we had problems. We were initially planning to buy an AO Smith water heater that would have cost us $1500 including installation. I called Buttermark and Sons with some detailed questions about water heaters, the installation process, etc. The receptionist was polite and realized she didn't have all the answers I needed. She asked one of the owners, Paul Buttermark, to call me. He did so the same day. He spent 15-20 minutes on the phone answering my questions, even though I told him I hadn't yet decided on which plumber we would use. He sent 2 of his men over the next day to determine if a drain line could be put in the laundry room along with the water heater. They were friendly, professional, and answered my remaining questions. After mulling it over, we decided to go with a less expensive water heater. We got no sales pressure from Buttermark and Sons and were impressed with the amount of time they spent talking with us before we made a decision. We bought the water heater from them and had them install it. Paul Buttermark did the installation himself. He was friendly. He worked both carefully and efficiently. He laid down plastic on our wood laminate floor to avoid damaging it during the installation. I'm no plumber but it certainly appeared to me that he knew what he was doing and did an excellent job from start to finish, leaving no mess to clean up afterwards.

A leak was developed from the bathtub in the 2nd floor into the dinning room area in the 1st floor. Buttermark plumbers showed when they said they will, they were professional in the manner in which they performed the repairs. A small leak continued after they left but they came back the following day and solved the problem. Tthese guys are to keep and they are highly recommended. Their price was very fair for what they fixed and very affordable to the pocket. This company sent me a letter explaining what they repaired along with a copy of my payment. This detail says a lot about their professionalism.

The workers there are very professional. They were very quick and they did a good job. Their prices are reasonable. I had no problems with them and I will use them again.

The first plumber I called could not get snake far enough into bathtub drain because (he said) a blockage prevented access. I called Buttermark at 12:30 and was told someone would be here by 2:00 PM. 2 men arrived about 1:15 and were finished in 20 minutes (by snaking through the sink and thereby into the tub drain). They were professional, courteous, and meticulous about cleaning up.

The job went well. They needed to come back twice to determine the problem with the toilet...despite the initial repair the toilet continued to flush an average of 5 times a day on its own. When they returned with the shower parts they finally got the toilet to stop flushing on it's own. The shower replacement faucet did the trick for that leak. My water bill was running approx. $900.00 for the last 2 bills (3mo. ea.) The cost of the repair will pay for its self.

I called at 10:45 AM and was told someone would arrive before 2:00 PM. Man arrived at 12:45. I explained that tub contained a brand new liner and care was needed not to scratch it. Also, I explained that an old tub leak had been repaired (35 years ago) with a plastic mold and care was needed to prevent rupturing it. On his own, the man emptied a large closet to gain access to where he could observe the exact location of the old repair. By so doing he could better direct the electric snake. He also used a protective mat to prevent scratches on the new tub line. He was prompt, professional, quick and clean. He more than earned the $135 he charged

IT WAS A VERY GOOD COMPANY. THEY WERE NEAT. THEY GUARANTEED THEIR WORK AND STAND BEHIND IT. THEY DO GOOD QUALITY WORK AND USE GOOD MATERIALS. THE FAUCET THAT WE WANTED THEY WERE ABLE TO GET, SO THAT MADE US HAPPY.

THEY KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING. THEY'VE BEEN ON THE JOB FOR YEARS. I LIKE TO HIRE PEOPLE WHO KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING RATHER THAN GET A CHEAP PRICE. THEY WERE QUICK, RESPONSIVE, AND THE JOB WAS EXCELLENT.

WE HAVE USED THEM MANY TIMES IN THE PAST. THEY ARE ALWAYS RESPONSIVE TO WHATEVER WE NEED. WE HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM. THE STAFF THEY SEND IS VERY CONFIDENT AND NICE.

IT WAS POSITIVE. THEY ARE HONEST. THEIR PRICE WAS REASONABLE. WE GOT HIGHER QUOTES FROM THESE CHAIN COMPANIES, BUT THEIR PRICE WAS MUCH MORE REASONABLE THAN THE CHAIN COMPANIES. THEY WERE VERY NICE AND PROFESSIONAL.

THEY ARE PROMPT, AND I LIKE THEM. I WOULDN'T CALL THEM IF I DIDN'T. WHEN I CALL THEM THEY ALWAYS COME RIGHT ON TIME.
