From our initial consultation until the work was completed, Gary from Colgar Enterprises was a pleasure to work with. He worked with us as our priorities changed during the work (we had a set amount of money to work with and as we found different issues, he was able to adjust his scope to meet our needs). He provided valuable advice as we found different issues with the house and was able to recommend solid approaches to making the repairs/changes. Gary was willing to extend his stay at our house when we added several new projects to the list. Every morning when I went to check on the progress, Gary and his partner were at our house every morning by 8 am. They were wonderful to talk with and provided great ideas for ways to improve our home over time. Each evening, Gary would check in with me and give me a status update. It was great to know what had been completed and what his plan was for the next day. All of the work was done professionally. They cleaned up after themselves and showed pride in their work. I feel very confident that their work was done correctly and will stand the test of time. Colgar Enterprise's prices were extremely reasonable and completely in line with what I expected. His subcontractors were easy to work with and were also professional. He worked very well with our painter who was onsite at the same time and even helped our painter solve a recurring problem with a crack in the ceiling. I will definitely use Colgar Enterprises for future work in our house. I have used them in the past and have always been pleased with their services.
Description of Work: Recently, we bought a new house. We had Colgar Enterprises come in to do the following work: Replaced rotted bay window with two double hung windows (owner purchased) Replaced old insulation in attic room Framed out side walls and drywall, tape, spackle entire attic room Installed owner purchased skylight Replaced rotten subfloor in attic Patch multiple roof leaks Replaced existing 6' sliding glass door with a 5' sliding glass door (owner supplied) and moved sliding glass door over six inches to remove the sliding door from behind kitchen cabinets. Replaced drywall, taped, and spackled behind kitchen cabinets. Installed new siding on screened porch to cover the hole created by moving the sliding door. Replaced rotted siding on screened porch Installed new front door (owner supplied) Installed 10 new interior doors (owner supplied) Installed 6 new support beams to shore up existing screened porch. This included digging new 48" deep holes, pouring concrete support columns, and installing new wood columns. Also installed additional support beams. Designed and built a "cabinet" to hide a dehumidifier in our basement recreation room and ran piping directly to slop sink. The cabinet hid the dehumidifier from view (and little hands) and allows the water to drain continuously.

He seemed knowledgeable enough. He was delayed in getting me the estimate, which I wasn’t happy about; he told me a certain date, and it showed up almost eight days late. The estimate was on the higher end compared to the other people I had interviewed. I guess they were fair in terms of their appearance and the timeliness for the appointments. I would not consider using them in the future.

I am very sorry that the member was upset with my estimate. I was delayed getting back to her because the sub-contractors (plumber & electrician) were very busy and delayed getting me their quotes. My price was fair for the work she needed done. I called her to discuss my estimate but never heard back from her. It's always good to make sure you are comparing the same job when looking at the bottom line of different quotes.

Upon contact with the owner Gary, he proved to be very responsive, professional and timely at coming to us for an estimate. He was very up front with us, no gimmicks or false ideals for the job . He gave us excellent solutions for new deck flooring and for the water damage at uncovering the old deck railing. The deck job was completed with efficiency and quality workmanship. After completion of the deck, he then worked on a problem with two flat house roofs. His recommendations for the solutions proved to be of service to us and he completed that job with efficiency and quality workmanship. After the roof completion, we had him work on a detached garage roof which was leaking. We later found that it was ant infested and needed further structural work. This job also, was completed with expertise. Total work time was roughly 14 days total and all that while the work sites were always cleared of debris and tools were set out of the way. There was one other worker with Gary and both were very cordial and honestly interested in our "happiness" with their work. It was a pleasure to work with Colgar Enterprises and we will be using them again later in the year.

This man has been very generous with his time and very patient. Damage occurred in my basement so I consulted several contractors, and this man was the most likeable. I had to put the project off repeatedly for a year, but he has always been very pleasant about it. I still plan on having him do the repairs in my basement. I can’t ask for more patience than what he has shown. Whenever I have left a message, he has gotten back to me as soon as he could.

This was posted 2 years later because Angie's list asked us to comment on this company. He did the work and completed the job. I really didn't feel the work was professional looking at the end though. He left a mess and it was quite dusty. Left a bag of garbage in the room. I also think he charged us a lot of money for a little bit of work. All in all it felt like he was cutting corners and it shows in the quality. Little things like using scrap pieces to finish the last bit of trim, etc. The door hinges were not recessed. He had to put some sheet rock up and we insisted that he come back to finish the job, but he just wanted the painter to finish. We expected the sheet rock work to be paint ready! We hired the painter to paint, not to do his last bit of skim coating. The was a deep walk in closet. He didn't suggest, anticipate or plan for any type of lighting in the closet, which was necessary.
Description of Work: He expanded a closet in our bedroom for us.

I not sure why this customer would post this report 2 years later. I dealt with the husband before and during the entire job. At customer request I reused existing trim. This was discussed with the husband and stated in the contract. The job was done according to the contract and the job was completed 100%. I not only taped the new sheetrock which was part of the job but then skim-coated the entire wall to match existing wall. I explained to homeowner that his painter may want to skim-coat the wall again before he paints. The job site was cleaned before we left. As I stated before, I never dealt with nor spoke to the wife except to ask about hanging bars. The husband was very happy with the job and paid me the balance due. I never heard from them again.

I wanted to have my bathtub re-glazed and he stated I would need to have this done first, but I spoke with the re-glazing company and they stated it would not have be done this way. He would make erroneous suggestions as well. He was also rude over the phone when I explained I had a lower estimate. He did not give a written estimate just a verbal quote.

I have always conducted myself in a professional manner. I suggested to the customer to have the re-glazing done first so the new work being done had no chance of being damaged. I explained to her to call the other company and speak with them first. It is part of of job to make customers aware of all aspects of their job. If the other company felt there was no problem with the tile work being done first then I would of gone ahead with the work. I always explain to my customers the method of installaion I also make creative/artistic suggestions to customers to give them different choices. The final decision is always up to the customer. I called this customer within one day of the estimate to give her a verbal quote for the work. I send a written estimate to my customers after the job has been discussed and booked or upon request. I gave this customer the price for the job and she stated she had a much lower price. I explained I could not do her work for that price. There was no other conversation with this customer, I can not understand her comments. I was never rude or un-professional at any time.

Gary is a very nice guy. He's punctual and respectful and nice to chat with. We usually keep him longer than we need to chatting about his kids etc after he's measured for an estimate or finished a day's work. With regards to his work, he is very knowledgeable, and has a strong work ethic. He does not like half-***** work and will make sure the product is up to his standards. Also, he is very patient in that we have asked him for estimates on the same things again and again. He never hesitates to come back over and re-measure. He's a pleasure.

I chose Gary over two other highly recommended Angie's List contractors who bid because when he said he would be here at 4 he was here at 4. Always prompt, absolutely accurate in all he explained and promised, always on time when it mattered. He even came in 18 inches of snow. The job had some surprises, which added a small amount to the bid, and I added one more task with the closet door. But everything was done on time, on budget, politely, neatly, no excuses why something could not be done, and suggestions to improve the job that did not cost me additional. It was always Gary and Tom on the job every day. Electric was done by Pat Kearns Electric under Gary's supervision. Only request I will make next time is less smoking!
Description of Work: Total renovation of lower level 18 x 23 room. Removed all sheetrock, put up new walls, updated electrical, added 6 high hats, painted and trimmed, epoxies cement floor (I will add carpeting), Replaced closet door. Removed a through the wall a/c and blocked up.

Gary West was prompt and professional. He gave a very fair bid. His work is meticulous and he goes the extra step to ensure the job is done right and won't have any problems. There was significantly more dryrot and structural damage than initially expected. He was able to fix this for a reasonable, fair extra fee within the exact same planned time frame. He is a stickler for quality and does not cut corners. He is honest with his opinions and will state when something needs to be done. He also will honestly state when more could be done, but likely is not worth the cost. Based on his workmanship, I have faith in him and hired him to do other projects on my home.
Description of Work: They repaired and reset paver bricks with cement on our front porch. They also repaired significant dry rot related to the previous poor workmanship on the original construction of the siding and inadequate flashing by the front porch. They added flashing and significant water proofing to the entire area after replacement of the damaged wood. They also repaired loose hand rails along the steps and walkway.

It took only 5 days to complete. They were clean and neat. Everything went as predicted with no surprises. Very efficient.
Description of Work: I have a deck that is also the roof/ceiling to the laundry room. Correct design means either a roof/ceiling OR a deck, not both. The deck was leaking water into the laundry room via its ceiling and a window. So I had a 2 fold problem. Colgar had a creative solution that would provide both a roof to protect the laundry room and at the same time have a great wood deck. There is a membrane sandwiched in between the roof and deck to act as a buffer, complete with drain holes for excess water. A flashing was also installed for extra insurance. It has passed the monsoon test. The laundry room is dry for the first time in 4 years. And the deck is a traditional wood deck (even larger than before) great to walk barefoot on unlike the slate tile before.

Gary is very respectful and very personable. He is also very busy, but is very communicative about his schedule. He was able to assess and estimate the damage to the bathroom (fairly) accurately. Because the majority of the damage was under existing tile, Gary was very upfront about the fact that his estimate was subject to minor change, but he nevertheless was able to give us a reasonable quote including worst-case scenario. He was prompt and quick and neat.
Description of Work: In the guest bathroom, the toilet was removed and a rotten sub-floor was replaced allowing for new tile to be laid and a new toilet to be installed. He also raised the base heater and all the molding. He also re-caulked some loose tiles in the bathtub.

Colgar Enterprises did a fabulous job on the windows. Initially, I was a bit concerned, because it took us a few weeks to schedule the work. However, once they started, they did a wonderful job. Unfortunately, the windows were not easy to install. Our foundation was thicker than originally thought and it required hiring another contactor to do the cutting. Gary worked well with the additional contractor and we were able to get the windows in quickly. There were many "surprises" on this job, but Gary handled each with a smile and got the job done on time.

The project went better than expected. The additions that we received were worth the price. Not only did he work with us but, he listened to what we had to say. Gary had great suggestions that we took advantage of. He also has a keen eye for detail. The construction started and finished on time. A true professional who takes a lot of pride in what he does.
Description of Work: Our basement was a concrete floor with cinder block walls and a picture window. The interior was framed out with the addition of a room for the washer/dryer and HVAC. Before the sheetrock began, electrical outlets and telephone lines were added. High hat lighting was also installed to the drop ceiling. A ceramic tile floor was installed throughout. After the molding was installed the room was painted. As a result of this remodeling, he was able to put up a decorative tile backsplash in our kitchen, behind the stove and sink.

Gary supervised and coordinated his team including a plumber, electrician, roofer, architect, painter, excavator, engineer and arborist. Hands on, Gary and Tom did all demolition, carpentry, windows, floors, siding, tile work, and more. They were extraordinarily talented in the quality of their work, budget conscious, fair priced and always ready to suggest ways of saving money without reducing quality. They made helpful design and supplier suggestions, and were flexible and easy to work with. Remodeling an old house always involves discovering and dealing with the unexpected and they were creative in fixing structural problems on the fly. These two men accomplish as much in a day as you might expect from a much larger crew because they work very quickly and efficiently. We lived in the house during the renovations and they were very good about staging the work so that we could go about our lives while they did their work. They are wonderful in every way.
Description of Work: Remodeling and rebuilding including new kitchens and bathrooms, porch, windows, doors, new log siding, new floors, structural repairs, plumbing, electrical, painting. Our house and separate on-site cottage/garage were in an advanced state of disrepair. Gary and Tom did a magnificent job of restoring and modernizing both houses.

I was very happy with the results shown by the quality work of Gary and his crew. Out of all the estimates I got, Gary s came in right in the middle. As far as what they did, it was well worth it. These men are masters at their craft and I would recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: This contractor completely gutted and remodeled both my kitchen and bathroom. He installed an all new toilet, vanity, tub and shower in the bathroom and a granite counter, disposal, island, sink, and flooring in the kitchen. The cabinets were done by another contractor, but he did do all the electrical work and plumbing as well. This took him about a month and a half to complete and he dumped all the waste himself.
