MAURICE CALIS

Maurice is a busy....busy man. He's also a perfectionist when it comes to his work, and clearly loves what he does! Great personality ~ very accommodating ~ honest ~ fair priced. I just wish we could clone him!

In a few words, Maurice is fantastic!!! He was extremely prompt in returning our call, and very helpful and personable on the phone. As busy as he is, he asked me if there were urgent problems; when I indicated that a couple of things were more urgent, he offered to come on the weekend, after he finished another job to handle the urgent problems, and we mutually agreed to deal with the other problems a few weeks later. Maurice came promptly on Sunday, exactly as scheduled. To our delight, he could handle almost all of our problems, AND handled them all that day! He even offered to go purchase the parts we needed, and came back to install them. We had cupboard hinges fixed or replaced, door knobs fixed, door jambs fixed and sanded down so the doors close properly and stay closed. Springs to some ceiling lights had been failing so the bulbs were always crooked and caused problems when trying to change bulbs; he took them down, cleaned them, reshaped the springs and got them placed correctly again. A fan in the bathroom which the electrician told us to replace several months ago, Maurice took down, cleaned thoroughly and fixed it ingeniously...it sounds and works better than it has in months! (He was also good enough to tell us that the repair may only be temporary, and we may yet need to replace the fan in the future...but it certainly is working well for now!) He even got a mangled can out of my favorite can opener, which had gone dead (batteries) as I started to use it, so I couldn't even open it to change the batteries.. He twisted, pulled, pried, poked, got out tin snippers---he simply wouldn't give up! And he saved it!!! He changed the batteries, and it works like new! Best of all, he was absolutely delightful to work with, and visibly enjoyed figuring out how to solve our problems!!! AND he finished everything on our list, not just the 'urgent' problems. His charges were extremely reasonable and carefully itemized. What a terrific handyman!! We plan to use him exclusively as our handyman in the future...in fact, I've already started another list of 'problems'! To anyone reading this, hire him! And if you have to wait a bit since he is so busy...WAIT!!! You won't be disappointed.

Maurice Calis was very good. He is a single guy. He did an excellent job.

We saw the quality work Maurice completed on our neighbors home. He charges a flat rate per hour and he works fast, clean, and efficiently. My neighbors found him from Angie's List, I hired Maurice to do some painting and also signed up for A L.

Great experience. Maurice is fast, meticulous, clever, thorough, personable and truly cares about his work. I recommend him without hesitation. When there was an issue with getting a window back in, he stuck with it and figured his way through it. I have asked him to come back and do other work at my home.

He arrived the same day, did a good job of fixing the problem, and his price was reasonable.

Maurice is a pleasure to work with. He works hard and well, but takes the time to be pleasant and affable. He completes every job he starts, and leaves the site clean. He takes on jobs he has never done, studies them, then invariably performs them well. His painting is excellent. His carpentry is very good.

Maurice was accomodating to my schedule needs and was good with communication. He dove into the work and did not dawdle or milk the job - two jobs and lots of sound advice in 3 hours. The service, suggestions and work done are an excellent value. For the scope of the work I needed done, the quote from 'Contractor X' was exorbitant (sure his family needs to eat; so does mine!). I look forward to re-employing Maurice's service within the month if his schedule allows.

Called and emailed him several times. He would not come to give us an estimate. He seemed like he didn't want to waste his time or gas. I'm not sure but other painters came to give us an estimate to paint our front porch. I found it strange that he told my elderly grandmother to take measurements and then email him and he'll get back to us. He asked for several things to be measured. We are only a 15 or 20 minute drive and would have appreciated at least a trip out and then we most likely would have hired him. He never called or emailed us back when we asked him to take the measurements. I guess it wasn't worth it to Maurice. We found another painter and for $1,500 he did a great job.

He does all sorts of stuff and he is very good at what he does. He was really clean, he took the time to make sure everything was cleaned up when he was done. His price was very good. He was there when he said he would be there. I would recommend him to anybody.

The experience was average. I would use him again in the future but not for plumbing though.

As you can see since Maurice has an A+ score he is a very busy man. He found the time to come and fix our fence that came down from Hurricane Irene. He was able to secure it enough to get it through the winter and will return in the spring to replace it. We have found our new handy man carpenter even if he is very busy he is worth waiting for. You are not going to find a better or more honest person to do the job.

Overall Maurice is a great handyman, and someone you definitely want to have in your contact list for those jobs that you need some skill and attention to detail to complete.

Maurice is hard working and his rates are very reasonable. He is very personable, reliable and does excellent work. I would highly recommend him.

It went well. I would have liked it to go faster, however, I feel the job was a bigger job than we both anticipated, thus requiring more hours than he had estimated it would take. He worked long hours to get it done as quickly as he could.

He did very good work, his prices were fair and his work was even complimented by other trades people. He did take about a week off, I believe he had other projects going on but he wasn't as communicative as I would have liked him to be. He might have told my mother why he wasn't coming back, but I don't know that. That was the only thing, other than that he did a fine job. During that week I wish he would have been a little more forthcoming about why he wasn't coming back right way. It's really kind of minor and not that it caused any problems.

I would recommend him and plan to use him again. He had worked for my neighbor and she recommended him. She found him on Angies List. He worked very fast. He came and worked when we were not at home and we never laid eyes on him. He corresponded promptly through email and phone calls and completed the work. He cleaned up after himself and we never knew that he was there except for the work he did. His price was very reasonable. We are trying to get him back for another job.

We are very happy with the job he did. This was not an easy task given the condition of the old paint. We appreciated his recommendations on proper materials to carry out the job and they proved to be right on target. He was careful to protect the surrounding surfaces and was very professional.

Maurice was always very prompt in responding to phone calls. He arrived exactly when he said he would and got right to work. He doesn't waste a second. He was very careful to repair all nail holes before painting and did a pretty good job of cleaning up paint chips outside. He worked with my schedule to finish the work quickly. He was very personable and easy to have around. I would (and have) absolutely recommend him to all my friends and family. He was great!

Right from the start, I was impressed with Maurice. For one, he was prompt in returning phone calls and responding to emails. He was friendly, easy to talk to and came out to my home to provide me with an estimate within a very reasonable amount of time. He started the work when promised, worked more than dilligently, often 12+ hours per day (including weekends) and kept me regularly apprised of his progress. My home is old, large, and not easy to paint, and Maurice never complained about the workload. In fact, he tackled unexpected issues that came up with humor, patience and fairness. My house looks fantastic, my husband I are more than satisfied with the finished product. I would hire Maurice again in a heart beat for any other work I need done around my house.

Maurice was very prompt, very personalable. He knew what he was doing and attacked the project with vigor. I was completely satisfied with his work and have several other projects in mind for him.

I was very impressed from start to finish. Maurice was upfront about what he knew and what he didn't, and came up with very clever solutions to problems. His price was very reasonable, and he was willing to work around our difficult schedule.

We live in an older home and Maurice has respect for craftmanship and the skills that are required for the appropriate result. Maurice has also rebuilt an enclosed porch, replicating some moulding and also has constructed some radiator covers for us.

He doesn't walk, he runs through his projects. He is just excellent and has a lot of energy. He does stop and solve problems, he is willing to take on any project and get consulting if needed.
