Greg showed up on time and gave me an estimate on the spot. His price beat what I was quoted at Lowe's and included everything--carpet removal, materials, wood delivery, installation, staining, and furniture moving. During installation they discovered water damage to the area around the hearth of my fireplace. Rather than just slap a floor over it, he called and told me that repairs to the area would be needed. He arranged for a good contractor to come over and make an assessment as to what was needed. The repairs cost an additional $1500 (not included in the $2700 I paid for the floor installation), but averted major, potentially dangerous, future damage. I was glad Greg was diligent enough to show me this problem and to help me get it resolved. I think a big box store would have just slapped a floor over the mess and my hearth and fireplace would have collapsed eventually. I really appreciated that Greg and his workers alerted me to the problem. Once it was resolved, the floor installation went forward and I ended up with a reinforced fireplace and an amazingly beautiful wood floor. Greg and his team brought the furniture back in the room, cleaned everything to a tee, and made sure I was happy. I am so glad I went with professional wood floor installers rather than do the piecemeal, equally costly, deal offered by Lowe's. Alden Floor Service was a much, much better choice.

They were very professional and cleaned up everything. The floors looked so beautiful when they finished, I didn't want to step on them.

Our experience with Alden Hardwood Floor has been excellent. They get the job done IN TIME!!! And, they are very friendly and carefully finish the job. Their price is very reasonable. After the closing of our house, we wanted to fix up our house before moving in. We had estimates from 4 different hardwood services in the area and we had chosen Alden Hardwood based on the recommendations from the Angie's list. (Thank you Angie's list!) We also had visited their showroom in Schenectady, before our decision. They have 5 people, who can put the hardwood floor on to the entire 2nd floor ~ 2,000 sq ft in time. Unlike our experience with other "typical"contractors, we had rather pleasant experience with Alden hardwood floors, who get the job finished as they had promised in the beginning of the contract. They have 5 people working vey well together to finish their work in time. They had never been late on the job. In addition, Mr. Greg Alden (the owner) is a very nice person, who is just great to work with and easy to talk to. Greg is quiet and smiles a lot. Finally, I would like to mention that they finish their job carefully. For example, we have built-in closet units in many rooms and Greg/his crew carefully cut out the corner of the closet units - so that the closet units can stand up correctly, even after the installation of quarter-round shoe-molding. They also did an excellent job in putting diagonal patterns of American Cherry with Wallnut boarder (Actually Peter did it - he is a very experienced hardwood person, who exactly knows what is doing.) Here is the summary of my experience why I strongly recommend Alden Hardwood Floor. (1) Get the job done as scheduled, (2) 5 people working very well together - big job can be finished in time, (3) reasonable price, (4) careful finish of the job, (5) always on time, and (6) Mr. Greg's excellent calm personality. You can really really rely on them.

The result is outstanding. I'm very pleased with both the work done and the people who performed the work.

They came promptly to give me an estimate. The estimate was reasonable; however, we decided to go with another company.

Aldens installed hardwood in my living room, dining room, and hallway. I supplied the hardwood which I purchased at Lowes. Aldens tore up the particle board in my living room and installed plywood. It took 3 days to complete the work. They also stained and varnished my stairs. They did a beautiful job and were very professional. I would definitely hire them again.

It was great. The floors look beautiful and the crew was extremely enjoyable to work with. Overall, they look great. But, upon closer review, there are some "stuff" - bumps and hairs trapped in the finish which is kind of gross. Around the doorways could have been sanded a little better. They put up quarter round molding, but didn't put quite enough nails and didn't fill the holes with wood fill. (Admittedly, I'm a perfectionist and expect everyone else to be the same. I also spend a lot of time crawling around on the floor with kids.)

They came when they said they would, which was very important to me. The workers were professional and friendly. They didn't make a mess for me and we were very impressed with the finished floor. The price was very reasonable.

He called and told us when he would be coming. It took about two hours the first day and less than an hour the second. There were really no problems, except our job of having to keep the cats away while it was drying.

THEY WERE EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL AND PROMPT. THEY WERE CLEAN AND THEY DID AN EXCELLENT, SUPERB JOB. IF THEY COULD GET ALONG WITH MY WIFE AS WELL AS THEY DID, THERE ISN'T MUCH BETTER THAT THEY COULD OF DONE. THEY WERE THE BEST OF THE CONTRACTORS I HAVE HAD WORK ON MY HOUSE SO FAR.
