Every went perfectly! I couldn't have asked for a better experience. On top of Mike's great work he was awesome with my new puppy! I think sometimes he came just to see my puppy :)
Description of Work: Mike completely replaced my electrical service coming into my home. A new mast was installed to meet current codes and the electrical service line was run into the house in a very clean and great looking way.

As with our previous experiences with Mike Williams Electric, we are completely satisfied! Mike and his son Thomas are polite, professional and extremely neat. As this was a very complicated project, some slight changes were made during the project; all of these changes were necessary to complete the job. Mike was very considerate of our needs and wants. His incisive nature and problem solving abilities are second to none. Along with those skills, he is EXCELLENT at communicating what is happening during a project. Mike (and Thomas) truly care about the quality of their work, and the happiness of their customers. This was a week long project, and, Mike and Thomas really used teamwork to get the job done in a timely fashion. I would never consider using anyone else for an electrical project, and we look forward to working with Mike Williams Electric on future projects, and, would gladly recommend them to anyone. Thank you Mike and Thomas!
Description of Work: Mike Williams Electric completely rewired our home. The process took place in three parts. This part was the running of power up to the attic, getting the power to three bedrooms, a hallway and one bathroom. The attic was also updated with new wiring. Our house was built in 1911, and is very challenging to work on. That is the reason we ended up using Mike Williams Electric for all three phases of the project; he is specialist in working on older homes.

It was our pleasure. Sincerely. It gives me a real personal pleasure to deactivate and tear out that old, old wiring with the crumbling insulation, which is such a hazard. Your house is now that rare thing: a turn-of the century house (20th) with turn of the century wiring (21st).

Mike responded within 24 hours to my first call, came that day to survey the project and provide an estimate. Was back the next three days to complete the project. Did not charge extra for a few modifications and additions to the original plan. Final bill was exactly as estimated. Work was done promptly and quality was excellent. His work was clean and professional. The project required establishing four new circuits at the distribution panel , installing one 220 outlet, about 20 standard outlets and five ceiling lights (I provided the lights), with switches and GFI protection. Everything has been working well since the installation about 8 months ago. I highly recommend Mike Williams for any residential electrical project.

No one likes to pay me to come to their house and flip a switch or push a button – which is why I always spend extra time with the caller on the phone, verifying that their breakers are all turned on correctly, that GFCI outlets aren’t tripped, etc. This member insisted that the breakers were all on. My normal rates for service calls are $65/hr plus $65 service charge – which I always explain carefully before setting an appointment. She was agreeable. I drove 45 minutes, round trip, to discover that 4 breakers were off. It’s an unfortunate situation that I try very hard to avoid. I felt bad about it and charged her a discounted $80 total, and then applied my 10% Angie’s List member discount, and added sales tax. In return, this gets me an F. My apologies for the member’s disappointment; no one comes away happy from a situation like this. And by the way, the same problem can come up with brunettes, and with men. Which is why I try very hard to avoid it.

Mike was very prompt to return my call and set up a time quickly to see the job. We were selling my father's home and the electrical boxes that were used by that builder in the 60's, apparently have been deemed a fire hazard. The inspector said it had to be replaced. I made several calls about my situation and I got prices ranging from $1200-1600 because they all said several things would probably need replacing along with it. Mike, however, asked specifically to see what the inspector wrote in the report. It turned out that everything else met the inspection and only the box had to be replaced. Updating would be up to the new owners. This also informed him of exactly what the inspector wanted. I was very impressed with Mike's integrity, and his efforts to do the required job. It said a lot about his character as a person and business man. He also labeled the breakers for the new owners and left the area all cleaned up. I've used him myself since then and I'll be calling him soon for another issue I have. He goes out of his way to communicate promptly and get the job done to your satisfaction. I highly recommend him.

After an initial, quick 15 minute inspection of my existing electrical, Mike pointed out that my existing service cable entering the house was frayed and had high voltage wires exposed to the elements. Mike also pointed out that my existing 60 amp Federal Pacific breaker panel was a known fire hazard but was unfortunately common among houses built in the 60s. Additionally, he let me know that RG&E was requiring electric meters to be mounted outside the house (it was originally in the garage) so that they can more easily access to the meter for readings. Within 24 hours Mike had provided me with a proposal with pricing to install a complete 150 amp service. My favorite part about the proposal is that it included options for the upgrade. There was a budget option that included the basics and a standard residential load center panel box, but also a "Cadillac" option which included an upgrade to a Square D load center panel box and breakers. He also included prices for adding a panel-level surge protector. Mike is a very down to earth guy and he was happy to explain what it was he was doing and answered any questions I had in terms I could easily understand. Mike is also very easy to contact via email and text messages which is extremely helpful and convenient. I would highly recommend him for anyone looking for an experienced electrician in the area.
Description of Work: Mike was hired to perform a complete 150 amp service entrance upgrade from my weather head all the way to the load center breaker panel.

I live in a very old house in Corn Hill with a long history of renovations. I found some suspiciously confusing wiring in my attic that had been installed years ago when the previous owners of the home began to finish the space. Mike quickly figured out exactly what was going on up there, removed an unnecessary junction box, installed an outlet in a proper sized box, and then even found a short hidden in a wire that someone had damaged while hammering the romex to the rafter during installation. Mike was friendly and professional, and I will surely call him again whenever I need an experienced, trouble-shooting-wiz of an electrician.

Perfectly! The estimate was detailed and complete, professional and courteous. Mike was willing to plan/include all work required, including the removal of the old bent mast. Several of the contractors I called for estimates refused to include the 'old mast removal and roof hole repair' as part of the job - since they were 'strictly electricians' and I would need to coordinate separately with a roofer - which would have been difficult to do considering how small the repair job was. The work spanned 2 calendar weeks, though there was essentially no disruption to our family activities over the period. Mike began work on Oct 14, and finished Oct 27. I work from my home, so time coordination was easier. He performed all the new install work as preparation ahead of the RG&E line switch over, so he was completely ready when RG&E scheduled that (they control the day & time of the power switch over). He coordinated the required town electrical inspection as well. Was only about 1 hour of power outage to disconnect old service wire and reconnect the new on Monday 10/27. Mike works with his son - who are both competent and professional. I'll hire these guys again for the next job I need done.
Description of Work: Removed an old/rusty/bent outside Electrical Service Mast with a new one, installed new cabling, installed new meter outside compliant with code, coordinated the electric service switch over with RG&E, patched the roof hole left from the old mast removal, covered with roof shingles provided by the owner, and cleaned up (rearranged wiring) in the basement electrical junction box to pass inspection, cleaned up the site removing debris to original condition.

I offered this contact several discounts, as I sensed she had serious anxiety about the investment, and was on a tight budget. She presented me with increasing demands for details and more discounts. I eventually withdrew my offer, and stated that she would most likely be more satisfied working with another contractor.

As was my previous experience with Mike Williams Electric, things went extremely well! I cannot thank Mike, and his son Thomas, for working on this upgrade/rewiring project for us. The knowledge of his craft, along with his ability to troubleshoot complex situations is second to none. This job (the second part of three, of which Mike Williams Electric will be doing) to us, the homeowners, was extremely daunting. Mike worked with us to come up with a plan to complete the project, in a way that did not completely disrupt our lives. Mike has a great way of planning out a job, and dealing with any "curve balls" that appear as the project progresses. I am truly impressed at Mike's knowledge of older homes, how they were originally wired, and what needs to be done in order to update them to current standards and codes. In addition to the things I mentioned before, Mike and Thomas are neat, courteous and timely...honestly, I have never met a contractor that is so neat. He took the time to explain everything to us; and made sure we understood what was being done; and made sure that we were comfortable with what was involved in the project. I felt the price was fair, and the work done by Mike Williams Electric was EXCELLENT. I would never consider using another electrician in my home. Thank you Mike and Thomas. We look forward to working with you again.
Description of Work: Mike worked on the second phase of a three part total rewiring project of our house, which was built in 1911, and was in serious need of major upgrading. He also replaced a security light in our back yard, and installed an exterior plug box on our front porch.

It was and will be a pleasure working on this project. Many houses of this vintage have bad, worn, dangerous wiring. Not many homeowners choose to make the investment to fix it all, and fix it right. The credit goes to Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell.

Mike came to assess the job and recommended I buy a specific fan because of the tight quarters for installation. I followed his advise, purchased the fan and set up a date to install. Mike returned with his son Thomas and they began to work. Things went very well especially considering the difficulty of the installation. Both he and his son were very knowledgeable and professional and did an excellent job. I highly recommend them especially if the job is in an older home.

At first I was overwhelmed with who to call for this project because I have an older home, but Mike came to my house and quickly assessed the situation. He not only installed a new outlet on the wall of my basement, made some improvements to the circuit breaker and actually replaced the cord and plug on my dryer itself. My dryer was only two years old, but since then the safety standards have changed and he took the time to update it :) He had to go to the hardware store a couple times to get the materials but Mike spent a better part of the day at my house and went above and beyond, spending quality time working on the project. He didn't charge me for the time spent going to the store. Mike explained everything he was working on and didn't overcharge me for materials. He seemed a very experienced and knowledgeable electrician, I feel safer with the upgrades he made, and I will recommend him to anyone.

We have 100% power in the house! We will definitely call him again if we ever have any more electrical problems!!
Description of Work: He came on a Sunday, when others would not for starters! We lost some power in the kitchen and we have the old circuit breakers. He came and did some trouble shooting and got 90% of the power back that day. We needed to replace that system of circuit breakers, and decided to have him put in a breaker box. He lives near us, and was very nice to forego the cost of the visit and what he did that day, and we just paid for the breaker box. He came back in 2 weeks and put it in.

It went well. Mike came when he stated he would. His son assisted him the first day. I was impressed with how well they worked together. The backyard outdoor light was a challenge when he 1st attempted to thread wire through the wall hitting a blockage. He assured me he could do it. I was impressed. These old houses frequently have surprises in them and my home was no different! Mike was prompt, neat and efficient. I'll surely call on him again.
Description of Work: Mike installed a backyard outdoor light which was not easy given the old structure of my home and the location I wanted it, fixed the wiring for my sauna, installed an outlet in the basement for the sauna, replaced an old outdoor patio outlet with one that works, and repaired an outdoor light on my garage.

Mike had quite a job to do. Upgrading my service and rewiring my basement. He was timely, neat and communicated any changes that had to be made, from the initial plan, in order to get the job done correctly. His ability to deal with the complications of working in old houses is outstanding. There are many challenges that go along with such work, and Mike made sure to explain what he was doing, and why he was doing it. I truly look forward to doing more upgrades with Mike Williams Electric.

Mike came as scheduled to look at the job. He seemed knowledgeable, and his quote was in the middle of others received for the same job. However, the quote didn't arrive until two weeks later. By that time I had chosen someone else to do the work. I'm giving him a "C" because he DID respond, just not in a timely fashion. Also, he had lost my email address, so when I got the quote it came to my business email which he had found on the web. Shows resourcefulness to track me down, but disorganization in that he lost my contact information. The problem was with a breaker on my main panel, the dilemma was whether to replace the whole panel or put in a sub-panel as there were no more slots available. In the meantime, the air conditioning wouldn't work, as it is served by that breaker. As I work from home and see clients in my home, no air conditioning was more than a minor inconvenience. He knew I was anxious to have the work done quickly. I'm also confused about Mike's status. His description says "licensed services available, where required". This suggests he's not himself a licensed electrician. For a job such as this (working on my main electrical panel), I wanted a licensed electrician and I think this should be made clear.

The member is correct about the delay. I've been extremely busy since the weather warmed up and construction season began. I am a one-man shop, with my son as a part-time helper on the job. I do all the work, with his help. I also have to do the estimates, write the proposals, do the books, answer the phone, and manage the calendar. This proposal required some research as well, and it took me two weeks to get the quote out. Obviously that was too long. It was a worst-case, though, an exception, and I'm working on faster turn-arounds.
