Description of Work: Erie Salesmen were very pushy and we caved to their pressure. The roof that was installed was down very poorly, and after 2 1/2 years we complained to the BBB. They ended up replacing the roof, and even that didn't go smoothly. All is well now, but I do not recommend them!

Description of Work: They installed 16 triple pane replacement windows. The windows were custom made by the contractor. The price was higher than most companies, but the quality is excellent. The installers were neat and professional. I am satisfied with the product and the installation.

Description of Work: We got an estimate from them for a metal roof. The price was $24K. There was no follow up from them to see if we were interested after we got the estimate. We had a Mennonite contractor do the job for $8000 with what we consider to be equal quality materials and workmanship. He did an excellent installation job. We are very pleased with it ans saved megabucks.

Didn't happen at all. They had a rep who was "in the neighborhood" going door to door. He stopped by on 9/22 and told us about his services. Typically we'd tell sales people that we aren't interested, but it just so happened that we need roof work done and actually contacted another company the day before for a quote. In fact I thought the Erie rep was someone from the other company I had contacted at first. Nonetheless, it's good to get multiple quotes so we let him in and let him do his pitch. Total high pressure sales tactics and possible mis-information. Also didn't like that he made assumptions on things he really had no idea about such as the R-Value of windows on a whole other house I had done 8 years ago. Erie's windows (they do those, too) are better, they have this R-value, blah blah your windows don't have this R-value. Whatever. Back to the roof, we've seen ads for Erie in the paper and on television so they were on our list to call at some point because we are strongly considering a metal roof. The sales guy kept selling us on 50% off installation being a big value to us and gave us a promo code that would supposedly save us even more. We've looked into metal roofing and, from what we understand, one of the benefits is that they can be installed over an existing roof because it's so light. That is very appealing to us because a complete tear-off can add to the costs. The Erie rep insisted that only a complete tear off is the way to go - you can't install over an existing because you're putting it over material that is degrading, etc etc. While that makes sense to some degree, again the assumption was that our roof was in such a horrible state that nothing less than a complete tear-off would be the way to go. He stated this without even looking at the condition of our roof. That would be done at a later date - in our case, the next day. He took down our information, said someone would be calling soon to set up an inspection and product review. One thing that really bothered me in that regard was he kept saying Erie are local, and I assumed they were local because of the fact they're called "Erie Roofing" (Erie Canal connection) and advertise locally. Turns out they're actually from the mid-west and just have local offices or reps in your areas. I got a call from Michigan to setup the appointment the next day at 7pm. Again, more high pressure and shady sales tactics from the operator with things like "oh hang on to that promo code, that is a really good promo code that is going to unlock so much savings for you when they come out tomorrow" - leaving me to think they're going to come out, do an inspection, say the promotion is only good for that moment or 24 hours and we'd have to act immediately on it and make a decision on the spot for them to do the work to get the big special. I never got to find that out because 7pm the next day came around and ...no one showed up. Half hour later... still nobody. Then we got a call from Michigan again almost an hour later saying that the rep got tied up elsewhere and couldn't make it, so they would have to reschedule for the following day. At that point, we told them don't bother. We have other people coming out to quote, we didn't like their sales tactics, both in person and on the phone, so it was pointless to continue the conversation with them. Nonetheless, thought I'd share my experience here. Beware of high pressure sales tactics or things that you need to act on right away. They peddled that big 50% off Installation deal, as if it was something special. It's really not - it's what is on their newspaper and television ads, so it's probably available all the time and that's just how they do it. Furthermore if they require tear-offs to install their metal roofs, that is going to increase your overall installation costs anyway because you're going to end up paying for more labor, as opposed to someone who will install it over your existing roof - like many other metal roofing companies and countless web sites say is safe to do, and even better because you supposedly get even more insulation value. They're not a local company to this area and what they apparently do is sub-contract the work out to local contractors anyway. Overall a disappointing experience that I'm glad we stopped before it potentially got worse.

Description of Work: The actual roofing job went well - except we had some inside damage from them dropping the shingles on the roof. However, the roof edge caps had not come in - they sat in their cars waiting - it was April and cold - when they can in they put them up fast as it was a Friday - they are now all cracked. We have contacted the company and the main office is very nice but our local NY office is totally ignoring us!!!! At this time from April to July there has been no correction of the problem.

Never actually got to see the salesman.
Description of Work: Called this company for a quote to install a metal roof. The salesman made arrangements to come on a Saturday. Waited all afternoon and he never showed nor called. He called on Monday to come on Tuesday instead. Waited all Tuesday evening - again, never showed nor called. Complete waste of time trying to deal with this company.

Where to start. The sales guys were persuasive (to put it mildly) and did a decent job of product materials overview. I knew I was paying too much for this job, but the quality of materials and their assurance that there would be a professional, timely installation of all work was a clincher for me and my wife (who was less than sold on this) . What we got was a different story. The "project manager" showed up on the day he promised to be there (2 hours late - should have been a tip off). We went over the details and the timing of the work and the materials delivery schedule. The day the materials were scheduled for delivery came and went with nothing delivered. Had quite a bit of trouble contacting the project manager (left several voice mails - no return call 'till the next day). Finally got the materials the next day at about 11:00 a.m. Contacted the project manager to find out when I could expect his "professional, expert crew" to show up to start the job. "They're on their way and will be there within an hour (i.e., by noon)". No one showed up by 5:00 p.m., so I expected them the next morning - but, at 6:00 p.m., up rolls a beat up old pickup truck with two rather scruffy guys - yep - from Erie Construction! They unloaded their ladders and started work on the roof. I asked them why would they start the job this late - never got a rational answer. They set up and started banging away and finally quit at about 9:00 p.m., promising to be back first thing in the morning. The following day, no one was at the work site by 10:00 a.m. so I tried the project manager again. He finally got back to me at 12:30 and acted surprised that his crew wasn't there. At 3:30, they showed up again and continued to work on the roof, finishing the roofing portion of the project at almost 9:00 p.m. They cleaned up and took almost all the left over materials (stuff I had paid for in the price of the project, mind you) and left. The next day, I went out and walked around the house, picking up nails and bits of materials they had missed. Didn't get it all - two days later I got a flat from (you guessed it) a roofing nail. The only thing left now was to get the excess shingles (8 bundles) and some other materials they didn't use picked up and get the gutter guards installed. Multiple calls to the project manager went unanswered, finally called the sales guys and got another run around. After two weeks of no action, no response from anyone at Erie, called their District Manger and got NO SATISFACTION whatsoever. He seemed totally unconcerned and, frankly, annoyed that he was being bothered by this issue. No resolution or any promise of action. The excess materials finally got picked up 3 weeks after the job was completed, but I was still waiting for the gutter guards to be installed. This took another week of fruitless contact with the project manager, but it finally got done. I must say that the person installing them was the only truly professional person I dealt with, showing up on time and getting the job done in a quick and timely fashion. Now to get the final payment to them. For this, I had no problem contacting the project manager, who showed up on time to collect the check. In closing - this was by far the worst project I have had done to our house. I wouldn't have Erie put up a dog house. A project that should have taken no more than three or four days stretched out over a 5 week period.

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE SCHEISTERS. They are disreputable. They do not honor the terms of their contract. A contract for roofing repairs was signed and then we cancelled within the 3 day allowable termination timeframe. The contract requires the company to return our sizeable deposit within ten days of notification of cancellation. Had to send follow up letter to ask for deposit back. Salesman informed us that the termination would be honored. Thirty days later the company is telling us that they don't agree with our cancellation notification -we followed the terms in the contract to the letter - and now the salesman is telling us that he expected to hear from us to discuss the 'issue'. Looks like we will be fighting for our money. Just Google this company and you will see nothing but bad reviews for this company.

I went with them because I was quite desperate.? I am waiting to see if my roof leaks to see if they have done a good job or not. The install manager is Charlie and he is the person that I talked the most.? They were just finishing up and it rained a lot during that week so they waited till the rain stopped.? In the meanwhile I left for Maine and they cleaned up and did a good job and I was a little nervous about that.? As far as I know everything is okay. They didn?t charge nearly as other estimates that I got.? If everything is fine and it is going to rain in the afternoon then the price will be much, much lower than the other people.? The hard part was that they came in February and left the dumpster and it looked like they will get to work right away but they didn?t and they left all of the supplies and they came a month later and took the dumpster away so my driveway looked pretty junky for a long time.? When I finally contacted Charlie everything moved pretty quickly.? He was great.? They didn?t do anything because of the weather and there was an incredibly long delay.? In February they were so positive about everything and they asked if they can put a sign in the front yard just for a little while to advertize and they said they were trying to get going in this area but they didn?t put the sign. They did a good job.? It took them forever to do the work. I was supposed to leave to Maine on 28th and I had to wait till the 31st.? I tried to reach to people who had come here and they never answered back and one person did but he left the company.? I thought it will never happen then I reached Charlie and he was incredibly nice and good and got the men as quickly as he could.? The guy?s worked very, very hard and once they got started it seemed like they really knew what they were doing. ?The price is excellent if the roof doesn?t leak.? They worked in 90 degree weather.? The guys were incredibly nice and were not demanding in any way.? They didn?t ask to come in to the house all the time.? They were self sufficient. ?It might be incredibly good company and might have had trouble getting people to do the work.? A few things were taken from my yard and they brought all new things.? If I had called them on a Friday and they would have come on a Wednesday I would have said they were the best in the world.? They gave me a very low price because they were going to use me to promote the company and they never got around that.? The prices that they gave me were infinitely lower than anybody else?s.
