I called Lynne at Bourque to ask if someone was available to check out the problem, "no heat." She was very responsive, pleasantly professional, and accommodating. Dan arrived earlier than originally scheduled, quickly diagnosed the problem (needed a new ignitor), replaced the non-functioning part, and quickly scanned the rest of the furnace for any other problems. Fortunately, there were none. Dan also was very professional, neat, and highly efficient. Highly recommend Bourque; especially Lynne and Dan!
Description of Work: Our gas furnace emitted a burst or two of cool air, and then, it shut off. Since the forecast indicated low temps, I needed someone ASAP, so that we would have heat.

They did a great job. It was a difficult install. House is a colonial with hot water baseboard. There were no good chases for ducting and small cramped attic to work in. They got the air handler into the attic and ran flex ducts to all upstairs bedrooms with vents in ceilings. Ran flex duct thru closets to get vents to first floor. They were here on and off, mostly on, for several weeks. I am certain it took more time than they budgeted for but they never complained. I got picky about a little bit of sloppy caulking in the closets and they came back and took care of it I would recommend them anytime.

They were excellent, and I continue to do business with them.
Description of Work: I used Bourque Mechanical Systems for heating and air conditioning service. I woke up in the morning with no heater on, so it's a frosty January weekend morning. I called them, and they came within an hour and 15 minutes.

I have used them for a long time and their customer service follow up is great. They also spend a lot of time with you in order to explain things. They are very honest and I would recommend them to anyone. The heating in the house changed over night. They will also come to do follow ups for no extra charge. I like that they come in and start the job and finish the job. They don’t do part of it. They assign one guy to do it and he finishes the job. If you have issues, you have a person to deal with. They assign you a rep that works with you, that knows your system. Their service is unbelievable. We did have one issues but we called and they came out right away. They must treat their employees well because some of them have been with the company for a while.
Description of Work: The company I use for heating is Bourque Mechanical Systems. I’ve been using them for years, ever since they put my heating in. I just had them do my brother’s house. In November, they put in a new furnace, ran new ductwork, put in a generator and a new air conditioner. I also have a yearly contract on mine and they come out and service it.

My experience with Bourque Mechanical was excellent. Shane Flint carefully explained the process for the replacement of the boiler, patiently answered all my questions--including several by follow-up emails--and provided a detailed estimate of the cost. He worked with me to arrange a convenient date for the installation, and arrived with the installer at the pre-arranged time to again answer any questions and confirm the scope of work. The installer, Joe, is a craftsman and professional. The installation took four full days due to the relocation of the boiler and new venting. He arrived on time each morning and kept the work area as clean as possible. The new plumbing lines are straight, sound, and have clean joints--no dripping solder. The Clifton Park building inspector called the installation "a work of art" during his inspection, and commented on the excellent work Joe did on the complex job. After the new unit was installed, Joe dismantled the old boiler and its associated plumbing. He hauled away all discarded items and left the entire work area clean. I'm very pleased with the outstanding service provided to me by Bourque Mechanical and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Removed old gas hot water boiler and water heater. Supplied and installed new Buderus boiler with indirect water heater in new location in basement. New system includes four circulator pumps and control panel. Vented boiler to outside, reconnected all plumbing and electric. Started system, bled all lines, checked for proper operation. Before beginning work, obtained all required permits with the town building department.

The technician came on 11/8/11 to clean the boiler. The boiler was working perfectly before the technician came. I wasn't there at the time the service was performed. It was warm that week, so the boiler was not needed after the routine cleaning. The following week, when the temperature outside dropped, we noticed our boiler wasn't turning on. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that one of the wires running to the ignition box had been disconnected. I called Bourque and spoke to a woman at their office named Lynn. She said it wasn't possible to send someone down that day, but a serviceman would be there in the morning. When the serviceman arrived the next day (different serviceman that who came the first time), I took him down to the boiler room. I showed him the wire that I suspected was the problem. He immediately reconnected the wire and the boiler fired right up. The serviceman from Bourque actually told me that it was most likely the previous technician who had disconnected the wire and made our boiler unable to ignite. I called Bourque back and asked to speak with Lynn again. I calmly and professionally told her exactly what happened. She responded saying "That's impossible, we don't play that game. Forget about the bill, that's it," and then hung up on me. Literally just hung up the phone. Seemed very much that we had caught them in a downright lie/scam. When I attempted to call back the office 2 seconds later, I was told that Lynn was not available to speak. This company came into our building under the pretense of servicing our boiler and literally sabotaged the boiler instead. We were without heat for an entire Thursday night and lost a lot of business and money. I will be pursuing the issue further and wanted to post my experience on here to make others aware of this SCAM and illegal practices by this company.
Description of Work: I called Bourque Mechanical Systems on November 2nd 2011 for a routine cleaning and inspection of our perfectly functional boiler in the basement of our restuarant in Downtown Albany NY in anticipation of the coming winter season.

I was able to to get a next day appointment when I called. However, the morning of the appointment, I got a call from the office saying the tech was running late and asking if an afternoon timeslot would work. It did, and the tech came when he said he would. He answered my questions and checked the system. He didn't however, check for any natural gas leaks, something that was always standard in my experience elsewhere in the country. He indicated that their techs don't bring the "sniffer" with them unless it's requested, which seems odd to me since they could easily run into an issue on ANY call. He also installed, without asking me first, a replacement part which added some cost to the job. Not much, but the total ended up being $145 instead of the advertised $109.95 on the company website. I would have liked to have been asked before he did the work.
Description of Work: I requested a seasonal inspection and cleaning of my boiler. I also had some questions about the system, as this is a new house for us.

The technician Dan arrived promptly and assessed the problem...he thought the valve was problematic in the new system and recommended it be replaced....he then set about replacing the TXV valve...however, after he completed the installation the house was still not cooling enough....Dan took the time to explain the problem and assured me that he would come back another day to see what else could be done....When Dan returned today he told me what he planned on doing....Recovered R 22 and added new refrigerant...the system is now cooling! I can't say enough about Bourque, particularly the technician..Dan was professional, knowledgable, and solved a problem that no one else was able to find....thanks Dan...
Description of Work: I had another contractor ( not Bourque install a new air conditioning system, after trying unsuccessfully to get the system up and running ....another company was called to step in and complete the job..however, the other company did not get back to me for almost a week.....finally, I called Bourque and they were there the next day...

They were great... prompt, courteous, efficient, and reasonably priced. 9/7/2011: Cost $3500.00 FOLLOW UP: I ended up having to have my furnace replaced due to the corrosion caused by the water corrosion. I took bids from 3 companies and settled on Bourque Mechanical. They came and measured and gave me an estimate for 2 different systems and I chose the following: HIGH EFFICIENCY GAS FURNACE REPLACEMENT major equipment : carrier model # 58mvc-060f114 variable speed , three-stage, high efficient up -flow gas furnace (afue 95% ), condensate pump/drain , black iron gas pipe with shut -off, supply air plenum, electric wiring, intake and exhaust pvc piping. SCOPE OF WORK 1. remove existing gas furnace from the downstairs closet and dispose of same.2. supply and set the new carrier gas furnace in the original location.3. connect to existing pvc air intake/exhaust piping. 4. modify supply air plenum and return air drop and join to the furnace. 5. rewire the new furnace to over head line voltage.6. install gas line w/gas shut-off valve to the new furnace, check for leaks.7. install condensate (drain / pump ) for the furnace using gravity drain and tie into existing system.8. connect low voltage wiring in at the furnace. 9. start, check and test the new system for complete operation.10. broom clean all work areas. total cost of materials and labor of above : $ 3500.00 They did the installation quickly and cleaned up after themselves. They also made sure to send me the documents I needed to apply for the National Grid rebate of $ 420 and for the federal tax credit of $ 150. In addition they refunded the payment I had made for the repair visit previously. I am so pleased by this company and their service that I am having new air conditioning installed by them in the spring.
Description of Work: 8/30/2011: Cost $108.00 When I tried to turn it on to dry out the house I found that my furnace would not work two days after Hurricane Irene blew through. I called at 8:30 Thursday morning and there was a truck at my door by 10:00am. Water had leaked onto my control board and corrosion had set in. The mechanic fixed the furnace but advised me, that since it is 20 years old, to start getting bids on replacing it. There was no hard sell and I felt he was being totally honest with me. I will now get bids for replacement from Bourque and 2 others but from reputation alone I already know I will probably go with Bourque. They have taken care of my heater and AC for the 12 years I have lived here and they are always prompt, courteous, and reasonable in price. 9/7/2011: Cost $3500.00 FOLLOW UP:I ended up having to have my furnace replaced due to the corrosion caused by the water corrosion. Two friends recommended them and they were very good. They were very prompt. When he finished looking at the heating system he took a look at my hot water heater and notice there was something amiss there and he rectified it. It was a loose cap and he said that it could create a problem. He fixed it in about two minutes and there was no charge for it. I was thoroughly satisfied when they left and I turned the heat on with peace of mind. They came within 48 hours of my call and they were very professional and showed up exactly on time. The price was the going rate. I started a file on them and I'm going to have them check out the air conditioner the beginning of next summer.
Description of Work: I used Bourque Mechanical Systems to do a general check of my heating system before I turned it on because it hadn't been done for a couple of years. They made a very fine check of my heating system. Very satisfied. I have used them twice so far and I am quite satisfied and have recommended them to others.

They arrived on time, listened to my situation, immediately inspected the system, both inside and outside the house. advised me that there was a leak and that the propellant would need to be added. He told me the price and I approved the cost before he continued to fix the problem. It took under an hour and the a/c started to cool the house immediately. It was during an extremely hot spell and, while they were inundated with service calls, they came the next business day to fix the problem. I was extremely satisfied and plan to call on them whenever I need to service the a/c.
Description of Work: serviceperson checked the a/c condenser. The system had ceased to cool the house. They checked outside, thermostat and attic. They found a small leak in the condenser and replaced the proper amount of liquid.

Since the time I moved into my house about five years ago I used the heating company who's name was on the furnace. Well they never seemed to be in my area when I called so I started looking around. This company was referred to me by a co-worker. When I called them I didn't give much of a time frame because I was off from work that Friday and I called on a Tuesday! He was upfront in telling me that with such short notice he might not be able to help me, well needless to say he managed to squeeze me in. The guy arrived within the early hours of the time frame, explained what he was doing and was gone. It was a great experience, I didn't feel pressured to sign a contract and will definitley be calling again.

Like many folks last year (summer 2008), as heating oil prices soared into the stratosphere, I decided to bite the bullet and switch to natural gas. I made the decision after researching average $ per BTU costs for oil, natural gas, propane and hardwood. I also took into account the ease of using each system. For example, hardwood burned in a modern wood stove or fireplace insert is competitive cost wise, but you have to weigh the effort involved versus the convenience of having a system that works all by itself. It is not trivial, by the way, to compare oil and natural gas because of the way that natural gas is priced. There is a cost for delivering the gas to the house and a cost for the amount of gas that you use and these costs vary with the quantity of gas used. You can find many energy cost comparison charts on the web but you will need to know the amount of Therms of natural gas you will consume. My average costs (both supply and delivery) so far this winter (now January 2009) from National Grid are running about $1.31 per Therm. I have a 2200 sf house built in 1974 with 4 inches of insulation in the walls and 6 inches in the attic. After deciding on natural gas I contacted 4 well known HVAC contractors in the Albany, Schenectady, Troy area for proposals. All of the contractors were friendly and professional and provided bids within a reasonable period of time. Shane Flint of Bourque Mechanical was the most thorough of all the contractors. He not only inspected the BTU output of the existing oil boiler but went through the extra step of measuring the linear feet of radiators in the house for a more accurate picture of my energy needs. I asked all of the contractors to provide bids for boilers with several different efficiency ratings. The Bourque Mechanical bid for a 96% efficient Buderus Boiler was BY FAR the best proposal. it also turns out that National Grid has a $1200 rebate now in effect for purchasing a boiler of this efficiency, but you have to act fast (go to the thinksmartthinkgreen.com web site for more info). Bourque did the removal of the old boiler and installation of the new boiler in the time promised and did a very professional job. Within a week of installation though we noticed that half the house was noticeably colder than the other half. Bourque returned to investigate and after some head scratching found a solution: install an additional circulating pump in my return line and voila, problem solved. The admirable part of this is that they did not add to the bill in any way, even though this was not part of the original proposal. The bottom line for this project is that I am very happy that I finally made the switch away from oil even given the fact that fuel oil prices have now plummeted. The contractor was easy to work with and did very professional work throughout the project.
