Self employed carpenter. I'm in my 60's and have a lifetime of experience. I work with another master carpenter. If you are looking for a cheap fix, we are not for you. We do quality work and expect reasonable compensation. Here is a short list of some of the things We do. Remodeling and renewing older homes. Cabinets. Trim work, including baseboards, casings, & crown moulding. Custom woodwork. Doors. All phases of painting. Deck construction and repairs (NOTE: Composite decks are nearly 40% more expensive than PT pine. Not only is the material more expensive, but the framing is more involved than a standard PT deck thus further increasing the cost). Laminate flooring. Hardwood floor repair. Drywall & taping. Minor plumbing and electric. Larger projects prefered.

Get your minor demolition, remodeling of your property and general handyman service done by Smart Fixers LLC. we take pride in getting your work done right the first time.

"Smart Fixers came to me through Angi to repair my storm door. I was simply interested in getting an estimate. We had an appointment set for the next day. At the time of the appointment, he called me to ask if we had an appointment. He showed up late. The estimate wasn't provided until he was fixing the door. Same applied to the ceiling fan he installed. He also did some other work for me including fixing a couple of doors, changing a filter , assembling a few things and cleaning the gutter. Those were done fine Smart Fixers saw that I was working with another contractor on building a screen room on my deck. He expressed interest in doing the job for a much cheaper price than the contractor. He reassured me that he had done this before and would be able to complete this work within a week. I clearly stated to him that I didn't know anything about constructions (masonry, carpentry, roofing). I had a structure in mind and I hoped for something safe and sturdy from an expert. He charged me for labor and I was responsible for the materials. The estimate that he gave was way off and I inquired about it, he said that he didn't account for taxes. Few things happened: 1. He recommended sheetrock at the base of the screen room and charged me $1000 for this. I soon found out from colleagues and other contractors that these did not belong outside at all. He seemed not to know this. It got me really concerned. I asked for reimbursement and he did so. 2. I also noticed issues with the screens, they weren’t fitted properly and some parts as holes. He didn't seem to check the quality of his work. I had to check every single detail. His original way to address this was to double to screen. I refused and he had to refit them. 3. I ended up buying and picking the doors myself after the ones he was going to buy were not only very expensive but also very poorly rated online. He approved of the doors after I showed it to him. Turned out they didn’t fit the frame. When I asked for the doors to be repaired, he told me that he was operating at a loss and needed to go make money elsewhere prior to finishing the work. I had to research a few things on my own to help with this, but it didn't work. 4. On the day the work was supposed to be completed, I noticed water coming in the roof. He built a roof above the gutter. When I brought it up to him, he kept telling me that he did whatever I asked him to do. Again, who's the expert? He also alluded to the gutter being an issue.. He came back and put glue under my gutter and added a piece of wood to Prevent the rain from coming in. Once tested, no water was coming in. 7. I also noticed that the shingles were not set up evenly on both sides. Again I had to look at every detail of his work because he wouldn't inspect even the most obvious issues. 8. I called a specialist as the work was winding down as I became more doubtful of his skills. Those specialists reviewed the work and pointed out various structural defects including poorly framed doors, defective roof that was installed above the gutter. Although the rain was no longer grossly coming in the screen room, with time it was going back into the soffit and eventually damaging the house. I did pay Smart Fixers in good faith and in the hope that he was going to address all my concerns properly eventually. He refused to address the gutter and the roof claiming that he did what I asked and the gutter was the issue. I find myself having to pay $485 just to remove the sheetrock . Almost $8000 for repairing the roof so it doesn't damage my house in the future. This guy was way out of his debt although he will never acknowledge that. I should have done my homework properly. I wanted to support a man trying to build his business. Cheap is never really cheap when it comes to construction. If you are looking for someone to do random small jobs in your house, maybe Smart Fixers is for you although there are plenty of people out there. For construction and larger projects, proceed with caution or go with someone reputable."

Door services FAQs

It’s usually better to repair damaged interior doors and replace damaged exterior doors, but it depends on the type and extent of the damage. Damage to interior doors won’t threaten your home’s security, so if a repair or partial replacement of only the door (not replacing the door frame) is possible, that route should save you some money. Damage to an exterior door can compromise your home’s security, so it’s often better to replace it entirely, especially if there’s frame damage. You can ask your door installer which course of action is best for your situation.

The average cost to install a door is around $1,100, but you could pay anywhere from $150 for a hollow-core interior door installation up to $2,000 or a high-end exterior door installation. There are a few cost factors to consider to get an accurate price, including whether your wall opening exists, the type of door, the quality and security of the door, whether you need to replace the frame, and the door size. You can expect to pay $150 to $700 for a standard 36-by-80-inch door and between $400 and $1,600 for an 80-by-48-inch door.

If you’re replacing an interior door, it’s best to get the work done in the summer or winter, as door installation professionals are the least busy during these seasons and might charge lower labor costs based on the decreased demand. You can also potentially save money by hiring a professional to install your exterior door during these seasons, but most homeowners wait until the spring or fall so that the extreme temperatures don’t put added strain on their HVAC systems while the door is being added or replaced.

Door installation usually takes three and four hours, including removing the old door and frame, fitting the new door and frame in place, shimming it to make sure it’s perfectly level, and making adjustments to the hinges and locking mechanisms to ensure proper functionality. A door-hanging professional can replace an interior door in between one and two hours. Door installation will take significantly longer if your installer needs to create a wall opening, and it can take less time if the existing door frame remains.

It’s possible to install a door yourself if the wall opening already exists, but the work is rather complicated, and a professional installation is usually well worth the investment. For your door to work and close properly, you’ll need to shim and level the door frame in your wall perfectly, which can be difficult. Additionally, we recommend you always hire a professional door installer to place an exterior door, as mistakes during the installation process can lead to poor security for your home.
