About us

I have many references from satisfied customers over 20 years now--as my reviews indicate. I generally handle one project at a time--as a rule-- and I give my full attention to each project. I am available to help with all aspects of the project from concept to finish. I am also architecturally qualified to assist in the design concepts. I personally do most of the detail work and finish work myself and am qualified as a master-carpenter. I'm probably one of the few "working contractors" still around. My rates are very reasonable and I can usually work within a customer's budget. 2015, 2016, 2017 AND 2021 Super Service Award Winner in Dutchess County , Remodeling - Kitchens & Bathrooms are my specialty.

We had used John for a previous remodel and knew that we wanted him to complete the remodel of our bathroom. John's work continues to be top quality with attention to details. He replaced the vanity, countertops, sinks, tub and tiled the shower/tub area and laid new tile flooring. John continues to be reliable, honest, and easy to work with. He provides an honest estimate and the cost does not change after the contract is signed. He is hardworking and shows up everyday without fail! We truly appreciate his focus on us as the customer and providing us what we want. Our bathroom remodel is amazing and the quality of work is top-notch!

Once again, this customer put their trust in my abilities and qualifications, and they reaped the benefits of a qualified and respected contractor. The REVIEWS here on Angie's list speak volumes of the contractor. If I were a home owner, and I were looking for a contractor whom I could trust and rely on to get the job done, I certainly would count on the what other home owners had to say about a contractor. These REVIEWS by many unrelated home owners, should be a good measuring stick to picking the RIGHT contractor. And, in today's world, of deception in the contracting business; it's a blessing to have such a source as Angie's list to rely on when in need of a qualified and dependable contractor.

We began the task of remodeling our kitchen while we lived out of state. We scheduled an appointment with John to look at our house and he arrived as scheduled. After seeing our kitchen, John redesigned the layout to provide us a very spacious, elegant kitchen that incorporated all the elements we wanted. John also took into consideration things we did not think of, showcasing his expertise in remodeling and home design. John considers not only the remodeling of the kitchen, but how any changes would affect the rest of our home. John completed most of this project while we were still out of state. During this time, John's communication with us was excellent. He would give us a schedule of when work was going to be completed and it was completed as he stated. Furthermore, because we were out of state, there was a certain level of trust that must occur because we could not physically be present. John did not disappoint us! He is a very honest and hardworking person which can be difficult to find. John communicated clearly to us when he began our kitchen remodel that he only takes one job at a time so that he can focus on the job and ensure that it is completed timely. I have to say, this is a bonus as a consumer because he focused only on our project and ensured timely completion. John worked Monday through Friday on our project and never missed a day. Any schedule changes were clearly communicated to us by John, in advance, so that we always knew when he would be working. John is a very kind and courteous person and was respectful of our home. John's attention to small details and quality craftsmanship made our kitchen the showcase of our home. I would definitely recommend John Gasparro and would use him again in the future.

This customer was a welcome pleasure to work for. Unfortunately, many home owners are not so trusting and hospitable as this customer was. And, because they put their trust in me and my qualifications, we all benefited from the experience. They worked with me all through the remodeling process. They got more than what they expected and that was because they TRUSTED and RELIED on my many years experience as a REMODELING SPECIALIST. The old saying is so true: " There is NO substitute for EXPERIENCE." With all due respect for modesty, I must say; I EARNED my reputation through many years of hard work and devotion to my craft as a remodeling "specialist."

Did not show for two appointments. Did not call to cancel or reschedule. My time is just as valuable as anyone else's. I am sure Mr. Gasparro is a nice guy, but he is clearly out-to-lunch with respect to basic customer service. Busy is not an excuse.

I didn't keep those appointments because: I had a medical emergency with my teeth that required major surgery and healing during the scheduled times that [Member Name Removed] is refering to. At this time I am just at the end of the healing and recovery stage. No Mr. [Member Name Removed], I am not "out to lunch" as you so vindictively put it, in such a sarcastic way. The MANY customer reviews I have received over the past FIVE years indicate just the opposite of what you think and imagine. THIS WAS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT, AND ONE THAT IS TOTALLY OUT OF CHARACTER FOR ME. Unfortunately, Mr. [Member Name Removed] has presumed on me and did not give me the "benefit of the doubt" in considering that there must be a valid reason for my not being able to keep those two appointments. And, I do recall calling Mr. [Member Name Removed], at least on one occasion, to cancel the appointment. My health and well being became a priority at the times in question. John Gasparro

I am having my master bathroom remodeled, & after checking reviews on Angie's List decided to call John Gasparro to schedule an appointment. I spoke to John on a Monday morning & we agreed that he would come to discuss the job on that Wednesday evening at 6:30. He said he would call me if there were any changes. Well, Wednesday evening came & went and John didn't show up & didn't call.

This man called us one afternoon while we were working on a MAJOR kitchen remodel. I was in the middle of drilling holes in very expensive cabinets, for plumbing. I answered the phone because my daughter was getting married that month, and I didn't want to miss her call. I had to cut the conversation short with Mr. [Member Name Removed], however I did write his PHONE NUMBER and ADDRESS on the wall that we were working on, and said that I would see him on Wednesday evening. UNFORTUNATELY ! We installed a large oven cabinet unit over the phone number and address, that had faded, and I had NO WAY to get back in touch with this man; and didn't remember the ADDRESS because he interrupted me at a very preoccupied time on my job site. An unfortunate circumstance, in which this man obviously took OFFENSE and decided to get his "pound of flesh" from me by posting his negative and presumptive remarks on my Angie's list reviews.

This is the second time we've contracted with John Gasparro (the first was the build of our new downstairs bathroom) and once again, John did a fantastic job! He remodeled our two upstairs bathrooms including putting in floor tiling, new medicine cabinets, toilets, vanities and tops and faucets. He took care of all the necessary plumbing and electrical work as well. John is not just a meticulous builder, he also went above and beyond to help us when we weren't sure of our choices. He's not overly pushy with his suggestions, but does assert his own opinions about the quality and aesthetics of the various fixtures, vanities and toilets. We have a much nicer bathroom because of his suggestions. He's also very professional and communicative regarding changes to original estimates.

Once again, I am grateful for getting such a wonderful review. Reviews like this tell me that my work is appreciated and that the customer recognized my talents and abilities as a Remodeling Specialist--hands on. Handling (one job at a time) is what makes these excellent reviews possible. I intend to continue on that path. This customer--like so many others--had TRUST in my abilities, based on the many excellent and detailed reviews on Angie's list.

Thank you for the delayed review. I don't usualy do these type of small repair projects, however when I am available and inbetween major projects, I like to do them as a change of pace from the more involved ones. This particular shower was a major challenge because the original contractor took so-called short cuts in building it and that created major water leaks. I was able to make a few modifications that solved the problem.

Thanks to Angie's List, it's not hard to find a good contractor these days. John goes beyond a "good contractor". He's an amazing contractor. He's the person I will measure all future contractor interactions with. Not only is he very skilled at the raw building process and more specialized aspects (electric, plumbing, etc.), he is an amazing designer and can incorporate your wants into a fabulous space. He can also neatly solve a dispute between two spouses over what to choose, which I will describe below :-) We had recently purchased a house in the Red Hook area. It had good "bones" but the previous owners and builders had cheated a bit on the finishing. One part that was both disappointing and a little bizarre was the master bathroom. It had a hideous peach-colored shower unit and shallow tub. The space was decently sized but not used well at all; most of it was taken up by a very wide (one foot longer than standard!) custom vanity. The bathroom sat in a corner of the bedroom, which took on a strange L shape with a tiny hallway leading to a window behind the bathroom (the small part of the "L"), with two tiny closets near the window and a huge walk-in closet near the rest of the bedroom. It needed to change. John came in and took a look and some measurements. My spouse and I had the idea of knocking down the small part of the "L" and extending the bathroom back to the aforementioned small leg of the "L". He said that was a good idea but with our plan it would require moving the door to the walk-in closet (which we wanted to keep), which would add quite a lot to the price. He recommended instead keeping most of the plan, but putting a small alcove so we could keep the WIC door where it was, a significant cost savings. Aside from the very basic plan above and some other wants (jetted tub, tiled shower unit), my spouse and I had not really thought about the details of the bathroom. John, however, has an amazing flare for design. He took our basic ideas and rough budget turned them into detailed architectural plans and interior design. He was able to incorporate some already-existing features of the house (a window at the end of the L-shaped hallway and small closet there became a space to put the tub where you could see out into the distance) into a beautiful final product. His prices were very reasonable and fair, and I'm more than happy in that regard. We agreed on the plans and work started. When contracting with John it's not like hiring one of the larger outfits -- you get John and his associate Bob from start to finish, and they do one job at a time. I was a little nervous about this at first because usually the larger outfits will bring in specialized people for plumbing and electricity, but John does both of these himself and I found myself preferring it this way. It was a lot better than with a larger outfit because you know they'll actually finish the job! Everything went extremely smooth. They were skilled and efficient and respected the house and ourselves (I work from home). I can't describe it in much more detail than that because nothing ever really went wrong. It was just...smooth. John's experience and skills proved extremely valuable throughout the process. There was one time when our old hot water heater gave up the ghost . My spouse and I weren't sure what was going on but John immediately diagnosed the issue when he came into work that morning and recommended to us a great plumbing company who were able to come in and deal with the problem. Thanks John! We owe you one for that. I will describe one amusing interaction that I think highlights John's great design sense. My spouse and I were trying to decide on a tile for matching some other unrelated piece of the job. The two of us absolutely could not come to an agreement. So we asked John. He took a look at what we were trying to match and the tiles we couldn't agree on and said "I think I know just the thing." The next day he came in with a sample tile that both my spouse and I agreed matched perfectly.
Description of Work: Complete renovation and expansion of master bathroom. Expanded into a small hallway (removing part of a wall and building up another), creating a tile shower and adding a jetted tub. Tiled the floor, new vanity, mirror, lighting...etc. Basically it was a complete overhaul.

This couple were the quinticential example of the "perfect" customer: A customer who knows what they want from the start, and are prepared to proceed--with the help and assistance from a "professional and respected contractor." Having "trust" in a contractor's proven abilities, makes any remodeling project a success from start to finish. ANGIE'S LIST REVIEWS SPEAK VOLUMES OF ANY CONTRACTOR'S WORTH. "Period."

John is highly professional, efficient and skilled. From start to finish, the project was done in under 3 weeks, including getting all the permits, deciding on vanities/faucets/fixtures, etc to actually building it out and getting the official inspection. Other contractors required that we involve other people for other parts of the work- but with John, he took care of everything so that all we had to do was decide on how we wanted the bathroom to look. He offered helpful suggestions and even offered to make an aesthetic change when he realized we were displeased with one of our decisions. He didn't charge extra for this. We were so pleased with the job, that he was the first person we contacted when we wanted to install a new dishwasher and replace an old sink. He took the job and once again, it was done quickly and well. We highly recommend him.

Once again, it was a pleasure to do work for people who are capable of making simple, everyday decissions, and who know what they want without complicating matters by being "undecided" on trivial matters once they decide to contact a professional contractor. I met John about 10 years ago when someone recommended him. I was looking to replace interior trim and pocket doors removed by previous owners of my Victorian house. John is a true craftsman. He arranged for the moldings to be reproduced and a set of doors to be created by a local woodworking shop, then installed everything. I was very pleased. Some guys who can build a deck cannot do this level of finish carpentry. Based on this experience, I contacted John a few years later when I wanted to remove the vinyl siding from the house, repair some damaged exterior trim, and get the house ready to be painted. This was a major job. Again John did great work replacing, in a historically correct way, some pieces that were hacked off when they installed the vinyl siding. He also arranged for and installed a new set of storm windows. Highly recommended!

[Member name removed]'s project was done a number of years ago. In regards to the "B" for PRICE, he must be refering to the exterior project (#2) because that was a major undertaking on that HISTORIC house, and it cost well over $65,000.00 after all was said and done! In the end, it turned out to be a show-piece for the neighborhood. I'm sure he was refering to that project (in regards to the "B" rating for price) and not the minor door installation--which in itself was some what of a challenge too!

My husband and I recently bought a house in the Poughkeepsie area. We wanted to redo the master bedroom?s bathroom, which was very tiny, impractical, mid-century style. Not knowing anyone in this area; we relied on Angie?s list for contractor recommendations. We picked John Gasparro from the list because of his impressive credentials and the positive reviews from former customers. John is not just a terrific contractor, but a hard working, skilled, creative artist/designer, problem solver, and a Renaissance man. He does it all; from the design concept to the finish project?-which also includes the necessary plumbing, electrical, and tile work. We were thrilled that he carried out his promise to devote his entire time to our project?-unlike many so-called professionals who juggle jobs and leave you hanging. Our project consisted of combining a very small bathroom, with an adjoining walk-in-closet, and creating a roomy and attractive master-bathroom. It also required relocating the walk-in-closet to the opposite side of our master bedroom. We had plans for all the amenities, but not enough space. John thought about what our needs were and came up with a solution that included all that we wanted: a two-person Jacuzzi, a neo-angle shower, a double-bowl vanity (with matching med-cabs), and an innovative toilet installation. All of this worked together to create a master-bathroom that not only had function, but also form. It was a brilliant and unique design. As an artist myself; I found that John was comfortable with exchanging thoughts and collaborating ideas. In the end, we were thrilled with his workmanship and his meticulous attention to detail. We would highly recommend John to anyone who wants to have a bathroom that is beyond their wildest dreams. Julie and Warren Arbiter

This project was quite involved and required some ingenuity to fit all that this customer wanted in such a confined space. By working together and putting ideas together, we were able to come up with a working plan. It makes my job much easier when the customer develops a trust in my abilities as a (remodeling specialist). This couple did just that and the end product was more than they expected. On each job, I try to incorporate what I've learned over the years in ways to improve what I already know. My customers have noticed that about me. I'm always looking for ways to improve on improvements.

Since it is very rare that we get a B for PRICE, I feel I must explain: Most home owners are completely unaware of the cost-factors involved in remodeling and renovating a home. My estimates are based on REASONABLE fees for materials and labor.--the majority of my REVIEWES indicate that to be so.

Member comments John is a true professional in his craft. All I told him was my idea for the fireplace and the desire to extend the outside wall and he took it from there. Within a few days, John prepared a detailed estimate of the project and was very amenable to changes that I requested. He prepared very professional drawings for the town building inspector to obtain a building permit. He knows building code requirements and had no problem anticipating and satisfying the requirements of the multiple building inspectors who came to inspect the project. He treated the job as it were an art project, always looking for ways to enhance the look and function of the room. His craftsmanship was well evidenced as he blended the new outside walls to match the existing structures appearance. He was very careful to make as little mess as possible during the construction and did a fabulous cleanup when the project was completed. He even staged the completed living room (as they do on TV to show/sell) with our furniture after he finished but before we saw the finished product. For the client who is a novice to construction, John is the absolutely right person to hire as he takes on full responsibility for the project as it was his own home. While John prides himself on thinking outside the box for his projects, because of his vast experience, he sometimes relies on what he has done in the past and resists suggestions to look at an issue in a different light. Nothing said diminishes his skills nor workmanship but sometimes it takes a little convincing to have him look at a problem thru other eyes. We would unhesitatingly use him again and recommend him to others. We love our enlarged and enhanced new living room with its beautiful, artfully placed stones on our fireplace.
Description of Work: Description of Work We wanted to install a wood burning fireplace in our country house living room. The living room was very small and would not visually nor physically comfortably support its addition. Therefore we had to enlarge the living room by three feet by pushing out an outside wall, relocate a window, extend the roofline, add structural roof support, add sheet rock to cover the new ceiling, paint the completed ceiling, install electrical outlets, match the stain of the new wall to the existing walls, install the face ledger stones on the fireplace, from floor to ceiling etc.

It is such a pleasure to do work for people like this. When customers are willing to TRUST the expertise of a contractor--who is quallified--; the job runs smoothly and the results are positive for both parties. However; getting the customer to TRUST my decissions, is not so easy some times. When they question my qualifications; I usually tell them to READ my reports on Angie's list--they acknowledge my abilities.

We walk in our kitchen now, and cannot believe the transformation that John Gasparro affected. It is truly a place of beauty , yet absolute practicality When we first discussed our thoughts with John, we had an idea of what we wanted, but John helped create an exciting, collaborative process for making each choice and considering each possibility. John worked with us on each part of the redesign, offering suggestions at each step, and thinking deeply about what we were looking for. We also loved working with John?s contact, Bob, from Creative Kitchens. He was able to create an image of the kitchen for us that we felt comfortable with. John and Bob work seamlessly together, so everything we discussed with either of them, both of them knew. The end design was exactly what we wanted. Nothing presented any major obstacle for John! From taking down the wall, and removing the heating from the wall between the kitchen and dining room, to crafting a truly beautiful framework for the new peninsula, to installing all new lights and wiring, to reframing our kitchen window to match our cabinetry, to reworking the drainage under the sink, to spackling the seam where the old wall was, to painting and finish work ? John did it all with aplomb! John approached each task with precision, and completed each task with artistry. Our kitchen is a warm, inviting, open space now. The detail work is impeccable, and the flow of the design is truly a work of art. We regularly sit at our counter and just look into the kitchen with wonder. It was amazing to watch the process from start to finish, as John stripped out the old cabinets and flooring, to his final, incredibly meticulous touch up work. Throughout it all, John was incredibly respectful of our space. His work was always well contained, and his cleanup at the end of each day was incredible. He made sure that we had as much functionality as possible. To think of what he did, and to realize that there were only a couple of days that we didn?t have our sink or our stove still amazes us. John cares very deeply about his work, and focuses completely on the tasks laid out for the project. We always had a good idea of John?s flow plan for each week so that we could plan around it, from emptying cabinets, to picking out lighting and tiles. John was at the job each and every day throughout the project. He always kept in excellent contact in terms of when he would be arriving later than usual due to picking up materials and supplies. Once at the job, John always worked with amazing focus and precision. He is a man that truly understands his craft, and knows how to make difficult tasks flow in what seems an effortless way. We could not be happier that we picked John to remodel and remake our kitchen. I cannot imagine being able to find anyone with as much integrity and skill as John consistently displays. He is indeed an artist and master of his craft. On top of that, he?s an incredibly nice guy! We will be turning to John if we have any future remodeling needs in our home. We are grateful each and every day when we walk into our kitchen that we were able to find John through Angie?s list. If you are looking for someone who will put his complete focus on your project for the duration, and who will complete the project within the time frame he sets, and for the budget he sets, John is your man! Be aware that because he totally focuses on one job at a time, you may have to be patient, and wait until he finishes any current job ? but there is no question that he is worth the wait!

This project was another good example of customer/contractor colaboration. Again, this customer trusted my abilities and qualifications in choosing certain products and fixtures for their kitchen. With my background experience as an interior designer and artist; I am able to get a feel for what the customer likes, and then to apply that to the project at hand. It's been working well for many years now.

To say we are happy that we hired John Gasparro to redo our bathrooms (Master bathroom and Main bathroom) is an understatement! We have lived in our house for 23 years, and had the original bathrooms still in place. John came to meet us, and talk about doing the job, and we knew after our first conversation that we had found the person to do the work! Each bathroom cost~$16,000 and we definitely got our money's worth. John is a true artisan, and we dare even say a virtuoso, when it comes to understanding what to do and how to do it. One of the many reasons we loved working with John is that he is the one that does all the work, with his trusted helper, Bob. The two of them were always incredibly respectful of our space, and our home. John does the whole job, from the plumbing, to the electric, to the tile work, and everything else that came with totally stripping out our old bathrooms, and literally rebuilding them from the studs and floor boards. Each day he shared what he had done, and discussed what the next steps were. We always knew what his plans were, and what decisions we had to make throughout the entire project. John was always incredibly thoughtful as he listened to what we wanted, and was willing to offer suggestions. He cares deeply about the work he does, and takes great pride in his craftsmanship. When I told him I didn?t like the small closet behind the door in our main bathroom, he thought about it for a couple of days, and came up with the incredible solution of turning the closet around, and having it open into the hallway, rather than into the bathroom! It is so much more functional, and we are so happy to have a fully accessible closet that is so much more practical. John offered suggestions whenever we asked for input, and created stunning bathrooms that fit our style perfectly. The main bathroom in the hallway had no external light, so John even put in a solar tube, which gives the entire hallway a brighter, lighter feel. It truly was a wonderfully collaborative effort in designing our new bathrooms, down to the smallest detail of exactly where to put the toilet paper holder. John is meticulous, and detail oriented. He is always willing to discuss options and possibilities, and finds solutionsat every turn. John was always very respectful of the fact that we needed to live in the house amidst what can be chaos during construction. His work was always well contained within the space, and he worked quickly to make sure we had functionality back as soon as possible. Once we realized what a gem we had found in John, we did have him do some other work for us, including tearing down the back wall of our closet, and rebuilding it 2 feet into into my study so that we now have a walk in closet, ripping up all our 12 year old carpet, and putting down new floors, and adjusting all our doors so that they open and close easily! We could not be happier with the work John has done for us. We feel incredibly lucky to have found him! He is truly a superior craftsman, and simply the best at what he does.

Remodeling a bathroom is one of my favorite projects. Being able and quallified to do the necessary plumbing and electrical work required, is a great asset in getting the project done in a reasonably short time. This customer trusted my choices in tile and fixtures and that eliminated the frustration they would have had in doing the running around searching, along with the stress of soooo many choices!

John?s work on this project was top-notch. We are very happy with the new bathroom and have no hesitancy in calling on John for future projects. Here are a few examples of why we were pleased to work with John: John is very meticulous. His tile work, in particular, was excellent. The shower wall especially required careful alignment of the large, rectangular tiles and detailing with small, carved tile pieces around the shower shelves. His carpentry on the wainscoting and moldings was equally well done. John?s approach is to work on only one project at a time. This was important to us because it meant that we could fit the project into our schedule. John estimated that it would take three to three and a half weeks to complete the project, and he was right on target. Even when a glass panel on the new shower enclosure cracked (for reasons beyond John?s control), he worked with his glass subcontractor to have replacement glass installed within a week. John did almost all of the work himself. He was at the house every work day during the period. On a few days he did have assistance from additional people, each of whom was also very professional. John made helpful suggestions throughout the project. The wainscoting and crown moldings, for example, were his ideas, and they improved the look of the finished bathroom. He also worked constructively with us when we had different views on how we wanted things done, and he always deferred to our decisions. John was respectful of our house, our privacy and our schedule. Each day he placed tarps from the entryway to the bathroom. When he finished for the day, he cleaned up both the inside of the house and any exterior areas where he worked. Periodically, he removed all of the construction debris. He used an area of the garage as a work base, and kept all of his tools and materials in the one area. While he kept us informed of his schedule and consulted with us when he needed decisions from us, he was not intrusive. And he coordinated with us on days when our schedule affected the work. All in all, our experience with John was overwhelmingly positive.
Description of Work: John did an excellent job in renovating the small bathroom off of our master bedroom. The project consisted first of removing the old shower, vanity and other fixtures, taking down the old drywall on the walls, ripping out the tile, and removing the plywood subfloor under the old shower. John then put up new drywall, installed a new shower base, tiled both the walls of the shower and the bathroom floor, replaced the old ceiling fan and light with a new model, installed vinyl wainscoting on the wall, and added crown molding. He finished the project by installing new molding around a door, painting the walls and ceiling, and then installing a new vanity, mirror, vanity light and other fixtures. In the course of the project, John also rerouted water supply lines or drains for the new shower and for the toilet, as well as moving and updating light switches and sockets.

Another good example of customers giving me the credit due in helping them choose what fixtures they need. After discussing their project, I got a good feel for what the wife and husband wanted the finished bathroom to look like. Being able to make simple decissions on certain matters, helps greatly in getting the job done and the house back in working order. This couple was able to make those simple decissions without complicating matters by being too indecisive on style, colors, application, and functionality.

We made an appointment with John to assess our small bathroom and provide an estimate for the project, and he did both in a timely manner. The estimate was detailed and clear. He began work within days. John's work involved a complete removal of the floor tiles and cement base, all walls down to the studs, the toilet, shower, and cabinet vanity, a baseboard heating unit, and all fixtures. He rerouted an existing shower drain, and relocated existing electrical outlets. John installed new plumbing lines in the walls, drywall throughout, a new cement backer board for the shower, a new shower, shower controls, toilet, pedestal sink, light/ exhaust fan, plus three recessed lights in ceiling, ceramic, wall tiles, floor tiles, as well as grouting and sealing of all tiled areas, and painting of walls, window, and door. Our experience working with John was very satisfactory and we are delighted with the bathroom that he created for us. John turned an out-dated, tired, mess into a harmonious, almost zen- like space. He has an artistic approach to his work and takes great pride in a faultless and beautiful end result. While John didn't always arrive on the dot of 9:00, he always called to let us know exactly when we could expect him. When John said he would call, he called. When he said he would come, he came. Not something that can be said for all contractors. He worked full eight hour days with only short breaks for lunch, Many days it was difficult, back breaking work. Yet he always remained pleasant, positive, and accessible. John had many good suggestions as we moved forward and was open to changes from our original plan such as the pedestal sink and the recessed lighting which involved more work on his part than was expected. We were impressed by his willingness to work hard to give us the outcome we were looking for. When problems arose with a product that arrived with broken parts, he was on the phone immediately with the supplier or manufacturer and saw to it that there was a quick turn around on replacements. Additionally, John took wonderful care of our floors during the process by covering all areas exposed to traffic - not a mark on them when the job was done. He also set up his tools in the garage so that there was minimal dust in the work area from tile cutting etc. Each day when he left, the work area was left neat and clean. We will definitely call on John Gasparro again when we are ready to do the next bathroom, and would recommend him to anyone looking for an outstanding bathroom remodel. John goes above and beyond.
Description of Work: John Gasparro's work included all electrical, plumbing, carpentry, ceramic tiling, removals/installations and painting associated with our bathroom remodeling.

(deleted member name) are two customers that I will long remember for their insight and hospitality. They made this project a pleasure to accomplish. It's customers like this that make my job--and my life--a pleasure! Their "hospitality" that was offered during the project, was a rare treat! Unfortunately, most people are not as hospitable to contractors who spend many hours in their home. Sometimes, just a simple jesture of offering a cup of coffee in the morning, can create a pleasant working environment for all parties involved. The (deleted member name) went above and beyond in extending their hospitality to us! They are also to be commended on their patience and sensibilities in regards to unexpected issues that arose. He was just fine. He came out, went back and gave me an estimate immediately. I sensed that he really knew what he was doing. He did a little more high end than what I needed for what I am doing. I think he works with higher end people in general. That was the impression I got from him. I thought he was a little high for what I could afford but he was able to assess things and got back to me on the same day. He was also on time and seemed to be professional. I mean, he came in and did his business. He did not delay reports or anything.

I met with [member name removed] at the house she owned in Rhinebeck, and she described to me just what she wanted to do in the bathroom of that old house. She, like most home owners, is not aware of the cost factors involved in renovating an existing structure. I gave her a reasonable quote for the amount of work she wanted to do. One of my most appreciated attributes, by the people I have contracted over many years, is that I give a very reasonable price for the "quality and quantity" of work I perform. My long list of satisified customers is my hallmark.

John's knowledge and competence in the areas of general remodeling and carpentry is amazing. He is efficient in his use of time and is very trustworthy. The work he does is excellent and beautiful. With John, the finished product equals or exceeds expectations. We highly recommend him and his work and fully intend to have him do work for us in the future.
Description of Work: John has done a major remodeling job and a smaller job for us during the past year. This time we had several jobs that needed to get done. When we phoned John about the jobs he was very responsive and we set up a convenient date for the work to be done. Damaged sheetrock in the garage ceiling needed to be replaced before it fell down. John skillfully removed the damaged sheetrock and replaced it with new sheetrock. The attic above the garage needed a light and John did the necessary electrical work required and made it convenient for us to turn on the light as we entered this previously completely dark attic space. John fixed our exterior chimney masonry problem (dampness). Two wood pieces supporting our outdoor deck screens were completely rotted and needed replacing. John removed the rotted pieces and fashioned two new pieces that fit perfectly.

These are the kind of customers that are a "blessing." The are able to determine who they can trust amidst all the unscrupulus contractors out there today. I wish more customers had that type of insight. Unfortunately, I see many customers make the wrong decission on who to hire because they primarily base their decission on the COST factor, instead of the QUALITY factor. In the end, they suffer the consequences! It happens a lot in the building and remodeling business.

Based on reviews from Angie's list and subsequent personal interactions, we selected John for remodeling our master bathroom. We are extremely pleased with the results and feel that our expectations from the project were satisfactorily met. The job that John performed involved removing the existing bathroom floor tiles, vanity, sink, toilet, mirror and lights and replacing them with new ones. John paid great attention to details and was very diligent throughout the work process. He communicated regularly well with us, and was always available to answer our questions. He ensured that the project was completed on the promised day and within the negotiated budget. We highly recommend John's work and feel that his diversified skill set, vast experience, flexibility, amenable character and ability to think out of the box makes him a contractor that home owners can take comfort in and can rest assured that their project will be executed as promised. While selecting a contractor for any job, one should exercise due diligence and do a thorough research as we did; As part of this process, I would recommend that home owners talk to John and hear what he has to say. We liked what we heard and feel confident that others would feel the same way !! Good luck !!

I am very pleased with this customer's comments on my work and character. The customer is a very intelligent and aware man and I attribute his comments to that fact--with all due respect to modesty. In working for this family, I was priviliged to see how a tight-nit and loving family worked in harmony with each other to create an atmosphere of peace and love in the home. It was a refreshing reminder of the family values that made America the greatest country in the world--and that value is FAMILY!

The experience of being home while the work was being done was priceless because rarely do you get to see how the contractor works with his team. You could tell that they've worked together for a long time and I think that helped get the project done efficiently. I wasn't hovering but I liked to hear the evidence that he is a meticulous in his work as I suspected when I got the original estimate. I am totally thrilled with my new basement. Even in its unpainted state it feels comfortable, modern and classy. John did a great job fitting in our three dimensional ceiling tiles even though he was initially skeptical that they would work. His advice on the flooring was perfect as it has already endured some 'breaking in' by the cats. When I go down there now, it feels like a space that was part of the original home design yet will stand up stronger from the quality of the workmanship. I can hardly remember what it looked like before. I can wait to get it painted so that I can start using it all the time.
Description of Work: After having a treadmill in the basement for a couple of years and getting sick of looking at insulation and concrete, i wanted to create a more comfortable space. We needed the space to accommodate the typical utilities and storage but to have versatile potential. After John came in and discussed our plans, he took a lot of measurements and made a very detailed floor plan with our estimate. I knew we were probably spending more than we "had to" but I felt that we were really going to get high quality work. He was very conscious of bringing in features that complemented the overall architecture of the house (for example, matching the railing on the basement stairs with the railing to the upstairs). After John and his team did the initial framing of the room, he brought in a licensed electrician to start work on adding the heating and lighting units. He then put in the drywall and added the wall that would divide the finished basement from the storage space. He brought us in at every step to update us on their progress and to let us know about any changes, challenges or modifications. Figuring out our intricate drop ceiling tiles was a challenge but he figured out how to make it work with the space and function requirements. He also saved my cat from getting herself trapped behind the walls before the last piece was put in. I scheduled the work to start when I was home for a couple of weeks but I felt more than comfortable that they treated my home with care. John doesn't do painting which he told us at the very beginning but he gave some personal referrals and left us with the contact information from the electrician also.

This member is what is known as the "perfect" customer! She and her husband made--what was a complex project--a pleasure to accomplish. Because they allowed me the latitude to make certain decissions in regard to the design and layout of the basement; it made it possible for me to create a pleasing and functional basement area--from what was originally a cold and wasted space. Unlike certain customers--who think they know more about construction than the contractor--, this couple gave me the credit and acknowledged my quallifications to do the project without overly scrutinizing my decissions. [Thank you both.]

Considering the extensive demolition and other work involved; the project went well and in a timely manner. If plumbing and electrical contracting had been needed the time frame would have been a lot longer. The delivery of the cabinets and counter tops were pretty much on schedule. There were minor issues with the coordinating of the kitchen work with the refinishing of the kitchen and hardwood flooring throughout the downstairs. The floors were done by another contractor I had previously used. It took 8 weeks for the work to be completed. There were some minor things that had to be adjusted later on, but it wasn't a problem.
Description of Work: The house was built in 1904 and originally had gas lights. The woodwork in the house is still original except for the bathrooms and kitchen.. Everything in the kitchen was taken down to the studs with the exception of the hard wood floor. There were at least 4 layers on the walls and 3 on the ceiling; including the original plaster and lathe. The ceiling is 9 foot. The walls and ceiling had new sheet rock and paint. The doors to the basement and outside were replaced with new wood doors similar to the originals. He took samples of the moldings for the doors and windows and had them reproduced. and installed bead board to match the original trim in the kitchen. We were able to keep the look of the house consistent with the era. The configuration of the kitchen did not change. The layout basically remained the same as the kitchen installed 33 years ago because of structural issues. Plumbing and wiring were unchanged, but new fixtures were installed. John installed the maple cabinetry and had to customize some of them because of structural issues. The previous kitchens before 1979 had little storage typical of most houses of that era. I was able to get more cabinetry with the new designs and had cabinets installed in the pantry area between the kitchen and dining room. I had granite counter tops and a marble tile back splash installed. I did not get new appliances. The final result was was excellent. The kitchen is open and cheerful with beautiful wood cabinets and all the modern conveniences. Yet it still has the feel of 1904. John has a great deal of experience and knowledge with older homes and I have found it difficult to get contractors with these skills. Old homes are not standard construction. There are variations because many things are hand made, like window and door frames. Things are not always level or square so it requires specific skills to correct these issues.

In regards to the "B" for punctuality that this member gave us; I must again explain the circumstances of timing in relationship to job performance by a working "general contractor"--as I am. Only one other time has a customer given us a "B" in this area--which was well explained on that report. Here the circumstances are slightly different and had mostly to do with picking up the necessary materials for the days work--which included lumber, electrical parts, plumbing parts, tile parts, and making all the other necessary contacts and arrangements that need to be made [in the morning] before the day starts. **This seems to be one of the most overlooked--and presumed on--aspects of a working-contractor's daily schedule! In conclussion: A working-contractor's day is not a [NINE TO FIVE] job and can not be because of all the behind-the-scenes work necessary to coordinate getting the job done--especially in today's "wait-in-line service in the commercial establishment. This is what SOME customers have no comprehension of.
