I called Petro and complained that I had just asked them to stop automatic delivery when I did not renew my service contract with them. They said it was just a coincidence that my auto delivery was scheduled for the same day that I cancelled with them. I then told the representative that Petro was charging $2.949 per gallon and the company I just signed with was charging $1.799 per gallon. I was told that he would have a supervisor get back to me to see if they could adjust the cost of the 13 gallons of fuel. Today, 23 days after speaking to Petro's rep, I received a reminder letter that I still owe $40.68. When I called to ask why no supervisor ever called me back about the price adjustment, the representative told me "we don't adjust oil prices." I will pay the $40 just to rid myself of any further contact with one of the greediest companies I have ever dealt with. I am so glad to have signed a contract with another oil company.
Description of Work: Petro had sent me a renewal for an annual service contract for basic (bare minimum coverage) charging $459. Because of the high price for this contract, I chose not to renew with Petro and signed with another company offering the same contract for $159 -- a savings of $300! When I called Petro to cancel my contract, I told the representative to stop all automatic deliveries. Later that day, a Petro truck came to my house and had just begun to refill my oil tank when I stopped him. But he had already loaded 13 gallons. Sounds very suspicious that the day I cancel automatic delivery, Petro would send a truck to fill my tank.

I switched from Petro to another cheaper energy provider four years ago, My current energy provider never showed up to do required furnace maintenance, so after receiving many, " Come Back To Petro" mailings, I decided to call Petro, to be back with my former energy provider. So, because I receive energy assistance from the state, I went to my local ABCD Energy Assistance Office in order to effect the change back to Petro. Shocking as it was, my ABCD representative told me that Petro is not accepting any new clients - absolutely obvious discrimination against my low SES standing - even though all previous fuel + maintenance bills were paid by ABCD to all my energy providers on time. I even spoke to Adam at Petro, who invited me back as a customer, only to be told that Adam, plus the Welcome Back Mailings, are just advertisements which are without any meaning. I question the Scrooge & Marley Ethics of this Mega company. I believe they have violated my civil rights knowingly with prejudice and discrimination. Someday, and it won't be long, they will leave our world with nothing. And I strongly advise all who read this account to give this company nothing. For they are NOTHING.

It is a yearly contract so there was no cost, when you have a problem and you have a service contract, they don't charge you above that. They had to come out like 2 or 3 times, they did that and there was no charge. They had to come back, they were good about coming back but they shouldn't have had to come back. The deal is a lot confusing, if you use them and then stop using them and then go back to them, they are a whole lot less than if you use them straight. Say the oil prices are $3 a gallon for the first year and then if you renew with them all of a sudden it is like $3.50 and then if you quit them and if you go to some other company and then go back to them and then it is like $3 a gallon. They are good on the quality. They were good on responsiveness. The reason for an overall 'B' grade is because they came but they didn't fix the problem and they had to come again.

Service contract and ceiling pricing are phoney
Description of Work: Pay for an expensive service contract that is worthless. Have used them for the last 2 years. Had 2 repairs on boiler that were not covered, They wanted to charge me ridiculous prices for repairs, which I was able to negotiate down to a less ridiculous prices. Their ceiling pricing for oil is also a scam. Price never goes down.

It is amazing that when you reach out to a company that you currently use for oil that it is this difficult to get even a call back for installation of a propane tank. When I first called Petro to have someone come out to look at my house, it took four calls over a week plus to get the installer to call me back. Then, after they came to the house, I tried calling them back to set up an installation, it's taken three days, two phone calls, and I've been told the installer is in meetings for "two days" and they're unsure when he'll call me back. As a current customer, I would have expected better from Petro. I initially went with them thinking that they are a huge company that would be able to have someone on the case in situations like these immediately. Apparently, that isn't the case, and I simply get the run-around time after time. It's certainly led me to believe I need to go somewhere else for propane, as they do not want my business. I'll also be re-evaluating Petro for heating oil service after this situation.

Prompt and professional service at site. The problem is with the service contract pricing that has gone through the roof and they bill twice what it is worth. Long time customers end up paying a lot unless you negotiate it to half every year. I find this annoying to say the least. I rather go with one that gives me a fair price upfront.

Some time ago Petro diagnosed my A/C unit (which they had installed) with a leak in the evaporating coil. The first tech who came suggested I let the leak alone (since it was a big job) and just add Freon each year. Took his advice and the next year my unit looked like a snowman - so apparently his advice was not that good. The next tech asked why I was told that advice and whether Petro had searched for the leak by placing dye in the system. I told the tech that I had no idea why the first tech suggested what he did and I had no idea whether they searched for the leak or how they found it. He inserted the dye and the leak was "found". I then made the mistake of telling Petro to order the part which began the downward spiral. The next tech that came decided it was my "thermostat" which was the real culprit so they ripped out the one I had and, for the sum of $135, installed a new one. Sadly, the thermostat repair was not the way to go. However, Petro refused to remove the $135 from my account even though they made the mistake by replacing a perfectly good thermostat with another. The saga continues!!! I then got a call from Petro to arrange to install the broken part and was quoted a prince of $1,095 for the part and installation (alas, my suggestion that they lower the price by $135 to cover the installation of the thermostat fell on deaf ears). So, since it was summer and I had already added more Freon, I put the installation off from June to September. I called in September to arrange for installation and was told that, because of my "delaying" the installation, the price "for the part" had gone up from $1,095 to $1,495. At that point I told Petro to remove me from their customer list since I was certain that since I was already being ripped off by them, there were a lot of companies out there fully capable of doing the same thing and I would find one and sign a service contract with them. It was then that the "apology" phone calls began. Mr. Kevin McCarthy (who I have since found out is no longer with the company) called and told me that the price for the installation would be put back to $1,095 and that they would extend my service contract for another year at no charge. This was last November or December. I agreed to give them one more chance but explained that I was going to Florida for 5 months and that I could not do the installation till June (this month!). He said "Fine. Just call us to arrange for the installation". Between January and June of this year, every time I checked my NY phone there were at least 3 "courtesy" calls from Petro advising me that the "part was in" and I should call and arrange to have it installed. So, now I am back in NY and a couple of weeks ago I called Petro to have the part installed. They gave me today's date to do the installation. The service tech just left because he showed up here WITHOUT THE PART" and told me he was supposed to fix my thermostat!!!!!. I signed off on his form that nothing was done. While I am writing this review, I have had 2 phone calls from Petro to tell me that the tech would come back today to install the part and to "explain" to me what happened. Since Petro has repeatedly proven to me how totally INEPT they are I will no longer deal with them. I no longer trust them. There are many oil companies out there and, for those who read these reviews, I sincerely suggest you utilize Angie's List to find a company you can build a relationship with and trust to get the job done when you need it done. Further, should Petro "respond" to this review and suggest that I am "exaggerating" or that my facts are not correct, please keep in mind that it would be difficult to create such a story.

Provider is under contract to service and maintain heating and air conditioning at residence - heat has gone out at least 10 times this winter - with increasing frequency as the weather has gotten colder. This is equipment they installed and are supposed to maintain, using oil they deliver. The outages have increased to a daily basis this week, with no explanation of the root cause or any attempt to fix the root cause. The service staff sent are frequently new, without sufficient experience and no apparent commitment to resolve the clients' long term issues with their equipment and service. Researching alternate providers asap.

On 12/5/14 Kevin came out to service the burner and did a great job. He did a great job cleaning up. He also replaced the fuel gauge and oil whistler on the outside tanks. The parts were covered under our contract. We purchased the gold service contract for 200 bucks and it was worth EVERY penny. Fast forward to 12/20/14. Our furnace is located in the garage. I went out that morning and found water coming from the furnace room. The feeder value coming off the hot water line was leaking and I shut off the furnace and hot water. I called and they sent Mike out. He was here within 3 hours and installed and new Watts Feed Water Pressure Regulator. Again it was covered under our service contract. Mike was fast, efficient and very courteous. Then the next day I went into the garage and found water streaming out of the furnace room again. Shut things down and called Petro. This time they sent Chip and he quickly diagnosed that the pressure tank had failed. He replace the tank and installed a new pressure value that was attached to the furnace. Chip was also quick and professional. Wrap up.....Our furnace is 12 years old and it was just a matter of time before these things went. The furnace itself is in excellent condition. The pressure relief values did exactly what they were supposed to do to protect the innards of the fire box and pipes. We really lucked out with Petro. The service contract paid for itself many times over. If we didn't have the the contract our out of pocket expenses would have been well over 1600 dollars!!! Overall we are VERY happy with Petro and their service. I will never go with any other company for oil or service. Thank you Petro for saving me money and a lot of aggravation.

We've had Petro oil services for just about a year, we were locked into a 1-year contract. They lacked professionalism when performing repairs, and because of their lack of timeliness we went extended periods without having oil delivered. Their customer service is unhelpful and unreliable, which for a company who does not offer flexible non-automatic deliveries, is unacceptable. We initially referred them to family and they've echoed the same negative experience with customer service and professionalism of their technicians. We are switching companies as soon as our contract is up, would not recommend them.

In 2013 we switched our heating oil delivery and equipment maintenance to a contract with Manor. In addition to timely oil deliveries, they provided a superior level of maintenance to the equipment, fixing a problem in one visit that stumped the prior oil company on four separate visits. We were pleased with their very competitive pricing, and just renewed our contract with them for another year. Within a week after renewal, we discovered a small oil puddle near the burner. Their emergency service responded to our call and came within 45 minutes after calling at 11 pm on a Saturday night. The repair tech immediately spotted the source of the leak, a pinhole in the oil line , and replaced it within an hour. Excellent and professional service

I'm a senior on a fixed income, all I ask is can "I" control my oil deliveries. As soon as I pay off the bill I owe them, they visit with more oil when it wasn't asked for. My tank could be down 200gl out of a 500gl tank and they chose to top off my tank, which in turn gets me more in the "debt to them hole"! It's very frustrating when trying to keep they bill with them current. Hence, why I would like to be given the opportunity to call and ask for my future deliveries. Also, they don't offer discounts to senior citizens on a fixed income. I have been with Petro when they acquired "Kavanaugh Oil" when I lived in Long Beach. After all these years, this is a sad state of affairs.

I originally scheduled an appointment in mid-August for between 9 and 12 noon. At 11:45 Petro called to say the service tech was running late. At 1 pm Petro called again. And so on, until 4pm when I finally called to cancel and reschedule. I requested a "first morning call" and was given the first available appointment, which was today, 9/11/2014 between 7 and 9 am. That's a wide range for a first call but that's how they do things. They day arrives and I'm ready for Petro to arrive at 7 am. At 8:30 they called to say the technician was "jammed up". Okay, when will he get here?, I ask. Petro couldn't say anything but that it shouldn't be later than noon. As I write this, it's now hours past the "first call of the morning" window. For the second time, Petro failed to keep it's scheduled appointment. and I've missed two days in the office. I pay extra for this "full service" . Petro doesn't just add a huge supplement to it's fuel charges for service, the service contract itself an extra $200. After seven years of good service, the last two years have been awful! Last winter I had a similar experience with an emergency service call. Petro showed up hours late, well into the night, to restore heat. The service technician was cranky and tired but what can you do when it's freezing out and you've not got heat? Petro really knows how to exploit that situation. They used to be great, now they rate F.

A/C unit up and running in an hour -- just in time for first heat wave of July!
Description of Work: My A/C unit stopped working after a storm. We had lost power and apparently, caused my unit to blow a fuse. I called Petro over 4th of July week-end and set appointment for Monday between 8 a.m. and 12 Noon (cost was $79 for visit as opposed to $179 for week-end service call). Technician arrived right on time; evaluated my A/C system; ran few diagnostic tests and located the culprit -- the blown fuse. A/C fixed, up and running in an hour. Technician was very nice, professional and helpful to tell me what problem was and gave me tips to help my system perform to max efficiency. I've been Petro customer for seven years and find them to be honest and reliable.

We recently opened our pool and had a tune up on our pool heater done by petro. The technician arrived towards the end of the appointment slot time and spent 30 minutes cleaning out the tank, changing filters and doing a basic inspection. What I really appreciated was at the end he gave me a lot of education not he pool heater, how to use it, how to run it. He also told me that it costs a lot to run the pool heater and to only use it on occasion. I really appreciated the valuable feedback and education as we just purchased the home. He also brought to my attention a bees nest that was hidden in a stump nearby.

we were using windsor oil and fell behind a month on our oil bill due to bitter cold weather. The company failed to deliver on the coldest day of the year and did this two times in a period less than a day apart. we called manor oil at angies list suggestion and they delivered immediately and advised us they would never stop a delivery due to late payment. The manor oil is professional run and understands sometimes people need a little space between payments. I like their customer service and professional attitude.
