My initial call for service to this company was never returned. So I called again three days later talked to the answering service again and this time someone from their office called me to set up an service call appointment. When the service rep appeared we explained the history of the problem and that our handyman thought the reason the detached garage had no power was the underground wire probably had to replaced . The service man went back and forth from our circuit box in the cellar for what seemed like a long time - 65 minutes. He confirmed that the underground wire had to replaced. When I asked him how much to fix it he replied it wasn't his job and that we had to schedule an estimator to come out at a later time. He neither repaired the problem nor could he give us an estimate. But he did present us a bill for $240 (1.5 hrs of labor) for his services for confirming what we already thought to be the problem. I protested the charges and called their office to explain why I thought the bill was excessive. The office manager pretty much dismissed me by repeatedly saying I was no electrician and that the best they could do was reduce the bill to $180. I reluctantly agreed and vowed not to use their service again.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your experience with our company. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve you. We apologize we could not meet your expectations, however; we take each experience seriously. We looked into the matter and am confused with your review. The call came in, quote "wants to schedule a service call to have power checked in garage" on 10/09/15. Our service dept RESPONDED to the call on 10/09/15. The power was out to the detached garage and was underground fed. We did our job as requested to VERIFY that the underground feed to the garage was bad. Our installation dept would not have been able to provide an accurate quote if this wasn't verified. The customer signed our electrician in BEFORE any work was performed so certainly knew what was happening and what the charges would be. Our electricians are not estimators. Once this was verified, our estimator in the installation dept would have provided a lump sum quote. Also, this was an insurance job. The customer claims the house was struck by lightning. We also had to verify that as well. Our office spent all kinds of time on the phone with the insurance adjuster in which we did NOT charge their time in the customers behalf and in which will be reimbursed by the insurance company because of us. Lastly, the customer was actually provided a $79.20 credit AS A COURTESY. This is why we are puzzled by this customer's review. We did everything we could have for this customer and still wasn't enough. If there is anything we can do further, please do not hesitate to reach out. For other members reading through the reviews. Was supposed to arrive around 8:30am. Did not happen. Had to call the shop to find out the delay and was told there was extra paperwork on Mondays so the serviceman would be late. He arrived about an hour later. Maybe schedule appointments to accommodate the paperwork? We had a dimmer switch in our dining room that was not working properly. Steve replaced the switch with a regular switch and installed a lighting fixture in the ceiling. He was very friendly and completed the work in a timely manner. We will most likely be using this company again.

Palmer Electric, whom we had do work with us several years ago, we wanted to get an estimate for a electrified shed and connection to my house. Michelle was very professional and responded within 24 hours of the inquiry via Angie's list. The problem was, trying to meet with an estimator and that she was having an issue with scheduling an estimator to come to my house after 5 pm. Well, like most Americans, we work until 5 pm. I get home normally before 5:30 pm, She couldn't schedule an estimator past 5 pm, stating to me "I've never had to schedule an estimator at 5:30" she said it very politely. I was less than thrilled and disappointed that they couldn't accommodate us. Apparently they don't want the job so I am going to another professional competitor and give them my business since they'll accommodate meeting with me after my work hours.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your experience with our company. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve you. We apologize we could not meet your expectations, however; we take each experience seriously. As you, our staff works hard all day and our estimators last appointment for the day is 5:00 pm via our Install Dept. The estimator is scheduled on the hour every hour all day long. It is our goal to be sure that our estimates are provided to our customer within a timely manner. Simply put, we could not handle the additional load placed on our estimators in order to provide our customers with a professional experience with our company. We do offer though, a 24 hour service via our Service Dept that could accommodate your needs without estimate billed on a T&M basis. If there is anything we can do, please do not hesitate to reach out. For other members reading through the reviews. The following is a factual account of how the work transpired: 1. Two electricians arrive on time without booties, and in my opinion, were reluctant to remove their boots before walking on our newly refinished hardwood floors. They did comply with my request. 2. The electrician that worked in the basement stood on one of my dining room chairs rather than bringing in his own ladder. 3. Dimmer control and speed control for living room ceiling fan were installed correctly without issue. 4. Problem with ceiling fan wiring was also corrected. The ceiling fan controls worked properly, no complaints. 5. Problem #1- Shortly after the new electrical outlet was put in the foyer it was discovered our doorbell no longer worked. The new outlet was wired into the nearest available power source in our basement, which also happened to be the the electrical box that mounted the doorbell transformer. Our Eldan built home is only 7 years old; is it just a coincidence that it failed right around the same time the electrical work was done? 6. Two 3-way switches were installed in our garage to operate the garage light with conduit covering the new surface wiring. Our Craftsman garage door opener panel on the garage wall was in the path of the new conduit. Problem #2- The electrician removed the garage door opener panel and reinstalled it on TOP of and over the new conduit. Due to the fact that opener panel was no longer properly mounted flush against the wall, the plastic housing was flexing every time you pressed the button. This resulted in the opener light switch no longer turning on the light, but operating the door. I placed a call to the Palmer Electric answering service to express my concerns within a month of the initial work being done. My call was promptly returned by Claudia Palmer. Claudia scheduled the same to electricians to return to my house the following day to problem solve the matter. There was no courtesy call to say what time we might expect them. Upon arrival only one electrician spoke to my husband and I, the other electrician stayed in the company van. The electrician looked at the doorbell transformer and determined that it was indeed the source of the doorbell problem. The electrician said he could install a new transformer box for $30 plus the price of an hour labor. We declined, as it was our opinion they caused the problem in the first place. I called Claudia Palmer while the electricians were still here to express my frustration. She took my information and had the owner (Rick Palmer) call me back. It was around this time Rick called his electricians and told them to cease work on my property, as he accepted no responsibility for the two problems. Rick immediately told me that "they did me a favor" by moving my garage door opener panel to make room for the conduit they installed. He also stated that it was my responsibility to move the panel myself! This was never discussed at the time of the initial estimate, nor was it a stated condition in the signed contract that it was the homeowner's responsibility to relocate the garage door opener panel. I would never have agreed to move any electrical components on my own, as I'm not an electrician! Rick was extremely angry and defensive and unwilling to even try to make amends. It was at this time the owner threatened to have his lawyer sue me for "slander" against his company if I left a negative review online. Fortunately, the truth is protected from defamation lawsuits. See another Angie's List review on 10/9/14 where Rick Palmer accuses the homeowner of "falsely slandering" his company. This weekend I purchased a new doorbell transformer at a local hardware store for $10, and a new trusted electrician installed it in about 5 minutes flat! Problem #3- The new electrician discovered that ground wire in the newly installed foyer electrical outlet box was not properly connected to a ground source! While Palmer's electrician had properly connected the ground wire in the box they opened up, they clearly failed to fully check the circuit to see if it was, in fact, a good ground . It was found by the new electrician that the ground wire had not been connected in the box before the box was opened up. A basic check of all three wires would have revealed the open ground circuit. Clearly, the new fan switches and the 3-way switches / wiring installed in the garage was done correctly, neatly, and in good workman like way. Further, I might concede that the failure of the doorbell transformer failure was just a coincidence. However, their failure to fully check the new outlet circuit, and the improper relocation of the overhead door switch is not acceptable.
Description of Work: Palmer Electric completed the following work: 1. Installed fan light dimmer control switch and fan speed control switch for a living room ceiling fan. 2. Removed the same ceiling fan and corrected a wiring issue. 3. Installed a new electrical wall outlet in foyer. 4. Installed two 3-way switches and wiring to operate the interior garage lights.

A team of two electricians showed up at my house about 15 minutes after i received a phone call from them that they were on the way. Upon arriving, we quickly got down to the problem, which was the lights in my basement were not working, no doorbell, no outside front lighting, and a few sockets were not working, either. They methodically diagnosed where the lines were going from the circuit breaker, in order to understand which lines were affected. Up to this point, I only knew that the basement lights weren't working. They almost immediately found out that the problem was more extensive, and my front deck, doorbell, and a living room wall outlet were all out, as well. Upon finding this, their expertise kicked in and they killed the breaker to find out which other outlets/switches were on that breaker. When the other outlet in the living room went out after killing the breaker, they narrowed the search to that particular outlet and immediately found the problem. There was a hot lead coming from that outlet that fed all of the other switches and outlets that was loose and not attached. After a quick fix, all of the lighting and power returned to the basement and other outlets. They even called a retailer for me to get me a good price on a 7500mah 12 volt battery for my constantly beeping Verizon FIOS box (the backup battery died). Was it a bit expensive for the actual work that was done? You could argue that. All that was really done was a lead was tightened in a socket. Could I have found this without any help? Probably not. I don't have any electrical experience other than replacing a few GFI sockets in my home. I couldn't have diagnosed the issue by myself and am grateful that they were able to find the issue in such a short period of time.
Description of Work: Diagnosed and fixed an issue where part of my house lost electricity.

Will give just the details as points. 1) Did Angie's search and selected Palmer Electric because of all the "A" they had. 2) Called Palmer electric aprox 9am the day of discovering them on Angie's list. A women answer who then took my information down and said that the owner was on another call and the owner will call me right back. 3) Did not receive a return call that day, but did get a return call late the day after from an employee. 4) During return call I was promised that if all went well that they could start the work I needed within (2) weeks if I put half the money of the contracted work down, so I made an appointment to have a Palmer Electric employee come to the house and look at the work involved and give me an estimate. 5) The Palmer Electric employee showed up on time met my wife on time, they went over the work and the he left without a word about the estimate. 6) It has been a week and a half and we have not gotten a phone call, email or letter from Palmer Electric Update 14 Oct 14 This is a response to the Palmer Electrics companies response of my review. (1) All of my statement in my review is backed up by my cell phone history and the companies own email. My cell phone history shows that I DID NOT GET A PHONE CALL as promised!! (2) I am not a confused idiot!. Their company was the only company I called!! and I do know how to use my email! (3) I never got a detailed quote, as promised, on the work that was to be done! only a price after waiting almost (2) weeks. (see their email that follows). (4) They know they messed up because the first thing they say in their email is "Sorry for the delay". Their visit to view the task was on Sept 24 and I got their email on Oct 7. I will not be using your company so please do not call me or stop my house. Palmer Electric email: Good afternoon (my name removed) Sorry for the delay. I have prepared a preliminary price based on your drawing to include a 200a underground service. Our price would be $9,550.00 for material and labor. Please let me know if you would like to proceed and I will then have our office send you out a detailed proposal. Thank you for the opportunity. Fair half hourly rate, but make sure you have supplies on hand because gfci outlet cost me twice as much as if I had bought it at Lowes. Also, light fixture was missing a part and since originally I was going to have him install two, I left him with the list above only to come back to him sitting in his truck without the gfci outlet installed.

Products sold at home centers are NOT always the same. Because of their buying power, deals are made between home centers and manufacture to produce a look-a-like product but made cheaper. The internals are not always the same. We have conducted such experiments to verify. Note that the part numbers are sometimes different than the original product we purchase from exclusive suppliers. The customer provided their own decorative exterior light fixture and upon our tech attempting to install, it was noticed parts were missing. The customer had to leave to purchase another fixture. We provide a $60 discount to Angie's customers for a service call that is at least 1 hour. The customer was attempting to get to the hour BUT did not want to go a minute over. Our tech was not exactly clear on what the customer wanted in regards to the GFCI and was concerned it would go over the hour. The customer stated to our tech prior to leaving to just leave the GFCI and she would take care of the rest so it was a bit confusing as what she wanted our tech to do and is why he was waiting as he had completed all he could do. Incidentally the job did only go to the hour and the customer was discounted the $60 so the total call was only $110 plus tax. A pretty darn good deal for what was done. I would also like to add that the customer never mentioned anything and this is the first time learning via the Angie's review. We would like to hear from our customers PRIOR to reviews in the event there was something that could be rectified. We are concerned with our customer's satisfaction...

The service provided on the second visit has lasted and was performed in a excellent manner . The appointment system is self-serving and does not take the customers life into account.
Description of Work: I have used this service 2x's in the past and the 2nd worker was excellent . About a year 1/2 after the first job happened the 3 electrical plugs that were put in stopped working . I called and spoke to their appointment maker and expressed my need to have the outlets looked at , at which time she told me that if there's something wrong with the outlet's it's my fault and I would have to pay to have them fixed . I had also called to have a top of the line generator put in my basement a big ticket item . When I went to make the appointment I said I was available all day Tuesday and Thursday at which time I was told they wouldn't come on either of those days ever because that's when they write up their contracts so I would have to fit into their schedule . I as the customer believe that , that is unusually poor customer service and have decided to take my business to someone who believes that they are here for the customer and not for themselves.

Positively our front office would never inform a customer it was their fault. They were simply stating we warranty our work for 1 year as the customer had stated an issue with work performed a year and a half ago and would have to be verified the issue really had something to do with the work we performed. Our 1 year warranty is pretty standard with all electric companies and is clearly written on all of our contracts. We regret the customer was upset as she also asked to have an estimate for an auto generator. The outlet issue is performed by our service department and the estimate is performed by our install department. Two entirely different departments and individuals. Our scheduler was only trying to inform the customer that we only schedule estimates on Mondays and Wednesdays. It had nothing to do with not caring about the customer. I am the president of Palmer Electric and handle the estimates personally and simply put, I could not handle scheduling estimates on a daily basis as I would not be able to keep up as it would be chaotic if we did not have a set pattern. Our schedule is on the hour, every hour on Mondays and Wednesdays which has never been an issue for the 24 years of us being in business. I visit the customer, take down all the information and then on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays I am in the office doing the actual estimate which is performed on our estimating software where I then type up a detailed proposal and send it by both email and USPS. Incidentally the service call was scheduled to the customers satisfaction and schedule convenience. Our service dept. does have that ability and if a customer decides they don't want to wait when put on a standard schedule (first come first serve), they can pay for PRIORITY SAME DAY SERVICE where we guarantee same day service.

When we called to obtain an estimate we had to leave our number and were told we would get a call back - and we did. We set an appointment with Rick and he arrived promptly. We showed him the two vent fans we wanted replaced and he took all the measurements and indicated he would get us an estimate with 2 days. (He also researched replacing just the fan motor in our existing fans but they were not available.) He promptly emailed us an estimate which included two options - one for standard vent fans and one for quieter vent fans. He also indicated that because they would have to work through the ceiling in the downstairs bathroom there was the possibility of ceiling damage (the new fan was larger than the existing fan and there was no option to match the old size). We were VERY concerned about the possibility of ceiling damage. Our past experience is that first of all, it's difficult to get someone to come to your house to do a small job and second, it's just about impossible to "patch" a textured ceiling and have it look good. Anyway, we talked to Rick again and asked how likely it was that there could be damage. He indicated that it wasn't very likely but it was a possibility. In any event we decided to go ahead and hire Palmer Electric. Within a couple of days they gave us a call and arrived to install the fans. Fortunately there was NO damage, the two installers did a very professional job. They did have to run out for an adapter to install the fans because the existing venting was 3" and the new fans require 4". But they finished and cleaned everything up. We were very pleased with the job and would recommend Palmer Electric.

We have an old house which is only partially updated electrically. We had a couple light fixtures that didn't seem to be getting any electricity to them. They replaced one switch, realized the other one just had a loose wire and then replaced the ballast on the light fixture. It was all done very quickly and now I don't have to do laundry in the dark any longer!!

I received quotes from 3 different recommended companies and Palmer electric gave us the best estimate for the work that we had done. We also asked each company to estimate the cost to install recessed lighting as well. While the estimate for the recessed lighting was on the higher end, they were much more thorough when going through the details and gave me various options. We decided against the recessed lighting for the moment (the decision was independent of the contractor). The communication was great. They let us know when they would be coming for the estimate and once we signed up for the work gave us a solid date and indicated there was a slim chance that they would be able to come a day earlier if a job finished early. As it turned out, that job finished earlier and gave us a call to ask if it was okay if they could come earlier. The electrician (his name was Jay if I remember correctly) arrived with an assistant and we ran through the details to make sure we were both clear on the work that was and was not included (there was a slight chance that there would need to be some extra wiring for the the lighting kit that wasn't included in the estimate but disclosed ahead of time). They got right to work and were done within an hour. They cleaned up after themselves and everything works as expected. Everything went smoothly and there were no surprises.
Description of Work: 1. Replaced an existing light fixture with a ceiling fan that I provided. They needed to install a proper metal box to be up to code. 2. Installed a light kit on an existing ceiling fan.

Everything went very well. Jay, the electrician, was the best. No problems or complaints on quality of work, professionalism, etc. My only GRIPE, as it were, was the $60 'dispatch fee' that is tacked onto the bill. With labor charge at $110 an hour, I thought the additional $60 was excessive and unreasonable. Of course, I could be wrong, maybe all companies charge a similar fee. Anyway, just my little complaint...
Description of Work: I had 3 small to medium electrical jobs that needs to be done. New switches, fix closet light, and add electrical outlet to porch.

Response from Palmer Electric Inc
Angie's List customers have a $60 coupon that could have been used that would have waived the dispatch fee. We charge by the 1/2 hour which is $55. Most companies charge by the hour and charge a full hour when they go even 5 minutes into the next hour. We also disclose all our fees up front both verbally before the job is scheduled and in writing on a work order that has to be signed PRIOR to any work being performed. In saying that and evaluating the work performed, the amount of work completed for $311 is certainly a fair deal. Our electricians are exceptional and work must faster than the average tech. The "D" rating for price is totally unfair considering the customer did not have to hire us if they felt our prices were not justified, especially since all other ratings were "A".

Provider tested all circuits. Knew exactly how to mediate utility room light fixture and door bell malfunction. Provider had to drill a hole in the garage wall to locate the correct wiring and associated conduits. Once determined that present wiring was not functional, electrician ran new wiring and was able to hook-up the drive-way lighting fixture. Electrician was courteous, fairly on time (contacted me prior to arriving on-site), and was extremely neat - did clean up after locating and drilling an access hole in the garage wall. Electrician was clearly knowledgeable, and took time to explain his actions in words that a lay person could understand. Overall, I was very pleased with the service, and plan to utilize this provider again.
Description of Work: Did rewiring for drive-way lighting (night-time security light), fixed/replaced utility room light fixture, and replaced doorbell transformer
