The response Tim was very good. I had a electrical socket that had burned. They came and fixed it and also did an inspection of the other electrical and found I had a light that wasn’t up to code and fixed it. I was very happy with the service. Would hire again.

The technician came out and spent an hour to determine that the issue was with our circuit breakers. They are older and had shifted a bit. He recommended we update the panel. In the meantime he moved the breakers back and said that power to the outlet was restored. I thought all was well. I should have gone down myself and checked that the plug actually worked but I didn't...so $140 later we have the same problem that we started with. Frustrating.

In all due fairness, as the customer stated, our electrician recommended a new service panel upgrade. We did our best to get it temporarily up and running which was working when we left. They were very good. It was a decent amount of work but they were here for about four and half hours fixing some electrical problems that we had cause we had an unusual problem and they discovered a bunch of stuff needed to be replaced. They did a good job. For what they're doing, the quality of work they're doing, yes the price is an A. All A's across the board for them.

I am very impressed with everyone I dealt with at Palmer Electric. They cared that we felt unsafe and worked to get the system replaced as soon as possible. Would definitely recommend them and will use them in the future.
Description of Work: Was having issues with electricity going on and off by itself and placed a service call with Palmer Electric. They sent an electrician out right away. He explained that I had major water damage to the system outside and inside my house. He rigged up a temporary fix that held and kept my family safe until they could come back and finish the job.

Perhaps there was a misunderstanding as the actual price was $60 per 1/2 hour. Also, per Palmer's own rules, the minimum chargeable time block is 1/2 hour, so they got the full dispatch fee ($60) + $60. All that was needed was to reset a circuit breaker, which took 3 minutes including the time to walk to the panel and back. I was charged a total of $129.60 (including tax) for something that didn't require their expertise or tools. Further, when I called the electrician back to make sure they hadn't overcharged me was the first time they pointed out the fine print saying $60 per HALF hour. Sure enough, there it was. I felt like an idiot. Worse, the electrician outright admitted that "they get that all the time". Since it's unconventional to quote rates in increments other than per hour, I consider it unprofessional, perhaps even a trick intended to slip past people. I would also argue that cases like this are exactly why you charge a dispatch fee. That way, you get $60 to cover you in case it's something really simple that isn't fair to charge labor for.

We charge by the 1/2hr for very good reason. Most companies will charge an additional full hour when they go just 5 min. into the next hour. There is no service company out there, who does not charge a minimum fee for a service call. $120 for a service call is a very fair and competitive fee. It is no fault of ours, that there was only a tripped circuit breaker. There is driving time, gas and time spent on your job. Whether is was a tripped breaker or something more involved , our technicians still have to be paid for their time and the expense for us to have provided you that service be compensated. 2nd, we don't just flip a circuit breaker, they test the circuit with an amp probe to determine if the circuit it overloaded. If the there is not an overload and the breaker does not trip while our techs on are on site, it's next to impossible to find the root cause without inflated charges. The issues must be present at time of service. 3rd, our girls in the office have been doing this for 20 plus years. They always inform customer's of the rates and that we charge per 1/2 hr, before any tech is sent out. The work orders clearly state what the rates are and is not in small print and work order is signed before any work is performed. This is an unfair rating of our company ...

It was quite expensive, but they did a wonderful job. Of course it works, but it was also done very neatly, and no details were missed. There were some difficulties with the way our house is built, so it took them longer than expected to finish -- but I can't complain. I'll definitely call them the next time I need electrical work done.

There were a lot of dislikes. I had a problem with them. They got the initial fans in but it was sloppy work. They left big gaps between the fan and the ceiling. Just messy as far as leaving junk up in the attic. They weren't prepared as far as having the attic ducting itself that vents outside. They forgot to do the knock out plugs on the actual fans themselves and left them uncovered with the insulation on top of them. I had to call them back that day and have the guy that does the estimates come back out. It seems like one of those unbelievable rants that people have. After he came back to look at the stuff because I didn't want the guys to come back. I told the dispatcher that I didn't want the original guys back here. They guy who initially did the estimate came out to look as the stuff and he was kind of like it was my fault that I didn't tell them right away while when they were still in the house that these problems were there. Even when I asked the guy who did the thing before paying them I said can you show me what you guys did. He was just joking around or serious and he said what do you want me to do show you how to turn on a light switch. I kind of laughed it off and said come on lets go upstairs and take a look. I pointed out some things to him and he just shrugged it off and said yeah the other guy I was working with is kind of sloppy. They can improve by getting qualified people who care about their work. It was a pretty simple job putting a bath fan in. They got it done but a lot of mistakes. They did come out and tried fixing it after we did a punch list of stuff. But even then it was a long time between when they did the work initially and them coming back.

The job was paid on a T&M billing basis and not contract, to attempt to GFCI existing common neutral circuitry. This was attempted to GFCI without rewiring the entire house that required GFCI protection. Customer knew this. As great customer service, we actually returned back and did everything for FREE. We are STUNNED to have received such a poor review after providing such service. Vinnie did a very god job installing the light, he was very polite and explained the operation of the light. One day later we noticed the light wasn't working correctly and called Palmer Electric again, they send a tech (Steve), over to check that the light was set up correctly and it was. Steve spent quite awhile trying to make the light to work, in the end the light was found to be defective! Not Palmer Electric's fault, but my fault for buying a cheap light!

Everything went very well. Palmer Electric was responsive to calls and was prompt to appointments. The price seemed high, but I am not very well informed on what it should cost. We are very happy that we used Palmer and would use them again. The work was a big job and was done very well. When a change to the original order was needed (they need to slightly relocate the new panel box) they were very good about explaining what would be done and the related additional costs. I was very glad that they are licensed and were able to provide us with the necessary paperwork to prove that their work was done to code so that when we hook up the two new lines we won't have any trouble then.
