Description of Work: We got a home warranty with roof protection included with our home sale, because the appliances were all beyond useful life but still functioning. It was our compromise on requiring replacement of perfectly good appliances. 1. When pieces flew off of our roof during a storm and water started coming through a door jam under the valley, we found out there was no emergency number that would get us any help for the problem that would be covered. When they did send someone out, he gave a quote that was sky-high for the solution he proposed, and admitted that he had never heard of them before. They just called him up out of the blue. They were adamant that we only use THEIR technician for service because they vetted these people. That was not the story I got from the roofer. Then they found out that he wanted to REPLACE the valley, it wasn't covered, because only repair is covered, not replacement, for this extended, expensive roof coverage. As a "courtesy" they would pay for up to half of my limit of coverage toward the replacement, but only if I used their "vetted" technician (read: answered the phone), and agreed not to say anything bad about them online. Their courtesies come with gag-orders. It wasn't worth it to me to have to pay $1000 more than I should have to pay for a repair that two other roofers said was not nearly as necessary as the one they chose said it was, and then be forbidden to tell anyone about this farce online. 2. No inspection doesn't mean "we will never ask you for your inspection report and you don't have to produce one ever." It means that should you ever want to claim anything for the $1200 you paid them in home warranty money, they will demand to see your inspection report or deny the claim as a pre-existing problem. Or they'll cancel your contract, which is really what I should have let them do, and gotten the money back from the escrow company. They lie up and down about "no inspection required." Don't believe the clap they put out. Just don't. 3. Their customer service people will wave titles and repeat themselves, interrupt you, and say anything they can to get you to agree with their side of the story without backing off of their original answer. I don't actually believe they're there to help you - they are there to convince you that you won't get any help from them unless you haven't posted a negative review, of any sort. | |They finally, at the end of my contract, offered to refund at least the roof coverage because it really wasn't as advertised and I never got any resolution from them on it. That refund... It came with a gag order. I turned it down so that you could avoid the mistake we made. Don't buy a home warranty from them. Don't believe the positive reviews. They are bought and paid-for in the form of concessions (which they tried to do with me) and the people who wrote them are paid-off to do so, and not very much either.

Not well!
Description of Work: Hung up when I told them we were getting the home warranty at closing. Offered no information. Don't they realize that we, the buyer, get to pick the warranty company. How stupid! Wouldn't want to deal with this rude behavior anyway. On to the next one!

Description of Work: We though HSC was going to be great except when we needed them. Our air conditioner and heater finally died on us and it took them 5 weeks to say no. We spent three weeks in 90 degrees two level condo. Their lack of communication and bureacracy cost us a lot of money. We chose not to renew and do not recommend HSC. They don't care when it comes to helping you.

Description of Work: I have a home warranty with this company. It didn't go as I expected. Because I was led to believe when I purchased the home warranty contract by the sales rep. that any future problems would be repaired or the appliance would be replaced. So on or about the 15th of May I had a problem with my double wall oven, the top oven would not heat up. So I called the Home Service Club and then realized that after 5:00pm central time or on weekends or holidays you have to report the problem on line. Ok not to much effort there so I did that and I must say that I received a call back within about an hour telling me the name and the phone number of the service repair company that would be calling me to set up an appointment for the service call. The following day the service person called me and set up a time to come look at the oven. On the day the repairman checked the oven first of all he was 4 hours late getting here so after he finished searching out the problem it was too late for him to contact H.S.Club to see what they wanted to do about this because he told me the repair would be aprox. 400.00. I assumed before he arrived that I would have a working oven or arrangements would be made to replace it at the time of the service call. Not to mention this was a Friday evening and he told me nothing could be done until Monday. He told me he would call me Monday morning to let me know about fixing the oven. I waited until 1:00pm and still heard nothing from him so I called him and he told me the supply warehouse was not open because of the memorial day holiday(I would have expected a call telling me that,I found out later that was not the case) He then told me they open at 9:00am and he would call them then and call me. Again I waited on Tuesday morning no call so I called him about 11:00am and ask what was going on,he said he forgot to call he would make the call and call me back in a few minutes. Again I wait until 1:00pn and I had to call him at which time I was told the part needed was no longer available (the oven is 10 years old). So I called H.S Club back told them of all the problems I am having with the service person and that I was told the part is no longer available so now what? They told me they would get back to me(remember I am still without an oven and have been for the last 8 days and still don't know when I will have one). So the customer service rep. from H.S,Club calls me back (within about an hour not bad). And she tells me that she spoke with the service person who made the visit to my home and he told her the same thing but he told her he could replace the relay on the circuit board get the oven working but instead of a 12 month warranty on the call it would have only a 3 month warranty. I ask her why that was she said it would be better if I called him back to have him explain why that is, I said ok. I called him he told me the reason for the difference in the warranty was this is not actually the way to repair this. I said then that is not what I am paying for I will re-contact H.S,Club and talk with them again to see what they have to say about this . I spoke with the customer service rep, and was getting nowhere so I ask to speak with a supervisor and she told me she would have someone call me today. About 2 hours later I received a call from a gentleman with H.S.Club and he explained that It would not be wise to repair the 10 year old oven but that he would payout the amount of 400.00 less the service call fee of 125.00 so I would be given 275.00 to replace my oven. I told him I cant replace this oven for that(this is an electric double wall oven). So after we talked a bit more he agreed to have another service company sent out to look at my oven(this time a factory service rep. for the type oven I have I said ok. 2 more days and the other contract repairman comes and tells me the same thing it cannot be repaired and that replacing a relay on the board is like a band aid(which is why the warranty difference with the other repairman. So now I pay my service fee 125.00 to this person to tell me he can't fix it. I now call the manager back at H.S.Club and tell him where we are in this. He then tells me that H.S Club would send me a check for 523.00 that is all they would cover my oven for and remember I paid 125.00 for the service call so I am getting 398.00 for the replacement of my oven which will cost (the best price I could find is 1169.00 plus tax and delivery to replace) so I am left paying 879.72 for an oven I thought was covered by a home warranty for replacement. Remember I ask the sales rep. when I purchased the warranty of just this type of senerio and it did come to pass, and I was told that H.S.Club would REPAIR or REPLACE any appliance that I have under warranty up to 750.00 per conract year (this was my only claim) so I had to except the amount they were offering which was 523.00 minus 125.00 service call which was 398.00 so I feel I sould have received 750.00 minus 125.00 which would have been 625.00 so the difference is 227.00 I was not paid because they said it is a 10 year old oven which they knew when they offered me the contract in the first place. And I still would not have been able to replace my oven for the 750.00 but that was the amount I would have been expecting all along.

Cancelled the warranty.
Description of Work: Didn't end up doing anything, only leaks covered inside the house. Took them 3 different people to call me just to ascertain whether my exterior leak was covered under my policy. My guess is if you have a lot of older appliances this is good coverage. People were all nice and professional. Just a waste of money, if your house is not completely falling apart.

I bought a home warranty through The Home Service Club. I had a claim yesterday with my furnace and they were really on it. They approved my claim within two hours of making it. It was for a repair but then because the part would take them days to order it, they gave me the option of applying the repair fee towards the replacement if I wanted to replace the furnace which was 15 years old anyway. I wound up replacing the furnace and it was almost like a 50-50 split with them when the original call out was for a repair. It was decent of them. They wound up paying almost $1,200. I pay $485 annually for the warranty. They’re competitive with everybody else. There’s no way to get anybody unless it’s during business hours; otherwise, you can only just use their web form.
