Handyman of NY

It sucked and was a waste of money. The handy man said he would return with my pest control products....he never returned......to this day 9/26/12.

I'd already spoken to my super about doing it but didn't think he would so I called this company. They were very nice & gave me a good price but I didn't wind using them because my super ended up doing .

The original appointment was on 5/25/12, to which the handyman arrived 3 and a half hours late. The completion of the work was on 7/21/12, with a great many e-mails that I sent, about setting an appointment to finish the job, in between. The handyman was pleasant, though he didn't offer any guidance or suggestions about the difficulty of getting an air conditioner installed. The new shelf is alright, though I'd really wanted the existing shelf reinforced and advice about fitting an air conditioner in the space next to the shelf.

Went well. He was professional, clear, quick, cordial and effective. I've already asked him to come back for another job and he was receptive. No BS just a good, handy man.

To make a long story short, I was not informed - either by Handyman of New York or by Angie's List - that the chemical materials used to refinish our tub are toxic, that they are dangerous to anyone who has a respiratory problem (my daughter and I both have prblems with asthma) and that the fumes would last for hours all through our house. Nor were we told that all of our windows should have been open throughout the time time it took to do the job and until it dried CONSIDERABLY LATER than we were told it would take. I would have expected the finish to be more even than it is. In addition, after less than a month, I see that there are a number of small pits in the surface. I would call these people up to demand that they fix the surface areas that are not smooth, but I do not want to ever smell those toxic fumes again. And I certainly don't want my family to have to do so. (In fact, I warned the workman that repeated exposure to these fumes were bound to cause him severe health problems ion the long run.) I recommend that anyone who wishes to refinish his or her bathtub find an alternate method of doing so.

First, it took me leaving 5 or more messages before something was set up. Second, in spite of me asking him if he needed me to pick anything up, he came unprepared with the supplies necessary for the projects. Third, he fixed the wall in a very poor way. I am aware that drywall repairs take time for the first coat to dry, but he never said anything about that until I mentioned it. When I mentioned it, his solution still does not make sense and the wall is not properly fixed. I know he cannot fix a wall in one visit, but he was not forthcoming about it.

I called to schedule an appointment to have my bathtub re-glazed on June 9th and was advised to send an email . After no response to my email I called them again on June 18th and was able to schedule an appointment for July 9th at 9am. When they had not arrived by 9:25, I called the company and was told that the handyman would be contacted and would get back to me. At 9:47 the technician called from the same number I had called first (347 510-7000) to say that he was stuck in traffic on the Belt Pkwy. He arrived at 10:34 and worked until 11:50am. I was mildly alarmed to note that the process looked like spray paint but decided not to judge prematurely. After less than 2 weeks I notified Mr. Dmitriy Islentev by phone that the bathtub was peeling, I had been told to wait 2-3 days before use. I waited an unbearable 4 days in the midst of a heatwave. I was careful to avoid harsh abrasives and chemical cleaners. He said, "Send pictures." I did. Reminders were sent on July 25th and July 30th. He responded on Aug. 3rd with excuses about lack of supplies to redo the job. He was waiting for a new shipment. By this time the tub was coming completely undone, large flakes of peeling paint covered the major part of the tub's bottom. I took and sent more photos on August 23rd with a desperate plea to Mr. Islentev to fix the tub or refund the money, There has been no response and I am much worse off because the tub that started off with a few rust stains was sanded and painted and now has bright white sides and a completely peeled and sanded bottom. It will take a lot more than $159 to get someone to redo the damage. UPDATE ON 9/6/12 : Handyman of NY called me today to offer to reglaze my tub again if spend $300 more to get the tub done with a different reglazing process using a different product. He admitted that the process that he used the first time was not the correct one but he said does not offer a gaurantee on his work. I reminded him that in the original agreement he promised that it would last 1-3 years and I requested that he refund my payment. He said that since he had done the work already, he would only give me a deal on the new process that usually costs $499. I'm disappointed with this offer and I feel that he's not doing business in an honorable manner.

This was a promotional offer for several hours of handyman service. I called the number. The office told me to email them. The email I sent was undeliverable several times. I called again and the man in the office begrudgingly spoke with me. There was some confusion about how many hrs. I thought 4, but he said 2. . I thought oh well. I didn't argue. I asked if painting was included. The answer was yes. Just have the paint and materials ready. The handyman called and said he would be late. No problem there.I asked about replacing the baseboards below the kitchen cabinets. He got down and measured 2 out of several pertinent areas. He told me what material and size to buy, but with a rather vague explanation.. I asked about painting some trim. He said painting was not covered, then acquiesced when I said the office had confirmed this for me. I felt uncomfortable, so I did not have him paint. He then fixed the lights I got all ready to go out and buy the materials for the cabinets .baseboards, and I asked him to explain again what materials I should buy. He got back down on the floor, and then stated he could not fix it. I had to have the original fixtures He showed me why. It made perfect sense to me but why did he not say that in the first place. Imagine if I had gone out and wasted time trying to buy something that did not exist. Taking down the medicine cabinet caused plaster, some of it hard, to spill on the floor , in the bathtub, and sink. He did a poor job cleaning up. Plaster remained on the floor, The walls surrounding the now empty space had very ragged edges: he did not do a very good job of trimming off the remaining plaster. I had to finish it. He was polite, but acted like I was imposing ON HIM. Hard to explain. He obviously did not want to be there, and the work was VERY simple. I decided to not have him do anymore because his attitude made me feel uncomfortable and I wanted him to leave. He obviously did not want to do this promotional service

He was good. He showed up on time and was helpful.

I had to reschedule multiple times with the company. They rescheduled because they were closed due to maintenance work, and for vacation reasons. They told me they could not schedule anything afterwards until August, a month after I initially contacted them.

DO NOT LET THESE PEOPLE INTO YOUR HOME!!!! We were promised that the bathroom floor would be as good as new. Dmitriy said he would test his solution on a small part of the floor and then if it went ok use it on the rest. He proceeded to use his acidic solution on my floor and shower. He ended up stripping the finish off my whole bathroom floor and part of the shower. Ironically, he left some mold in the grout behind. He also did a terrible job spackling my wall - it was cracked and drooping. I have pictures to prove it. I had to have my super come in and finish the spackling job. I am about to use another party to re-do my bathroom floor and shower. My girlfriend was present to oversee his job. This is her summary: "After twenty minutes in the bathroom I checked in and saw him scraping the floor with a steel brush and putting an acid solution all over the shower and floor. He assured me that it would be perfectly white when he was done. 30 minutes later he asked me to come view the work . I stepped into the bathroom with bare feet and noticed at the floor was completely raw. I asked him about the rough stone and he said, "oh it's always rough so you don't slip". His "cleaning" job had left my natural stone bathroom completely raw and unfinished. Better yet, he did absolutely no grouting of any kind. In the weeks following the incident I had three contractors come in to assess the damage and I was given three separate quotes for up to $2,800. I approached Dimitry about the issue and since he was away his coworker Alex (who sounded just like Dimitry) told me that they could replace the stones for me but would not refinish them. I did not see the logic in replacing a stone bathroom when I was told by three other contractors that they could be refinished. Plus, why would I let them return to my apartment? Clearly these guys do NOT know what they are doing. I told him about the estimates and he laughed saying "Is your bathroom made of gold or something?" I had tried to approach the issue maturely and tell them that I would not make them pay for everything but if they could contribute to helping fix the issue that would be fine. " They have ignored multiple efforts to work this out and at this point aren't responding to any of my attempts to resolve this dispute. Unfortunately, we are now going to attempt complaint resolution with Angie's list and if that doesn't work we will pursue legal recourse for damages. DO NOT WORK WITH THESE PEOPLE

Nothing ever happened, that is how it went. Overall, they took my $99.00 and never ever returned any of my calls or emails to schedule an appointment.

Terrible job. It's peeling after the first wash. Mostly rude on the phone and non responsive. Do not hire these people.

Great, efficient service. Dmitry was courteous, knowledgable, and extremely fast. He took care of everything I needed fixing in the timeframe and even some things that weren't on the list! Would recommend highly to anyone.

I called him on 8/10 in the morning to see if he could do the work for me before the Big Deal expired. He asked me to send him an email listing the items I needed done, which I did an hour after the call. I never heard back from him and sent him a follow up email on the 14th with no response. I called him yesterday and left him a message and followed up with another email today but still no word from him. UPDATE: Merchant's response to my above review claims that he arranged to have the work done on August 23 and sent three emails confirming that! That is not quite accurate: Following my 3 emails and 2 phone calls to him, the only communication I received from him was on the evening of the same day I called Angie's List to complain about his non-responsiveness and to request a refund. That email from him stated, and I quote (and have his email to substantiate it): "Sorry For late response, we having problems with telephone service provider, we can schedule for August 25th if it works for You." (This, after letting him know in a previous email that my condo association does not permit work to be done on weekends). I opted to respond to his email as he had responded to mine - NOT!!.

What an experience. Dometree arrives on time and does an excellant job. Two weeks later part of the job starts to peel, not sure why but it was specific to the bottom of tub. After a little prodding and staying persistant with Mike on the phone, Dometree comes back and quickly makes teh 60 year old tun look neat and clean again almost new. A little paint was airborne and attached to the new sink but it was tolerable and I was happy they came back and repaired the tub. Mike stands behind his work and I would use him again.Thank you Angie and Mike

The people who came were very professional and did the job. They did come late but because we are out in NJ and not in NY, and they do not usually serve NY, we were ok. They painted everything well and brought their own food and water, did not ask to use the rest rooms and did not leave a mess. Overall, it was a good experience and I would recommend them, especially as value painters.

Dimetriy did a great job and was very pleasant in dealings. He bought the shelves, build them in the closets and vacuumed afterwords. Very happy with his work and will certainly call him again for future work.

He sent out a service person to do the glaze and told me that there would be an additional $80 fee for a protective coating. I asked him if it would peel if I didn?t purchase the coating and he said no therefore I didn?t purchase it. I paid for the service with my credit card. A week later the bath tub started peeling badly. Later when I called, the owner said that the issue probably happened since I had an older cast iron tub and I didn?t purchased additional coating. He said that the service person warned me about this possible issue if I didn?t purchase the coating but that conversation didn?t take place. Instead of offering to fix the problem, he just tried to suggest that it was something that I did or that the damage was caused because my faucet was leaking. The area that is peeling is not near the faucet and the faucet isn?t leaky. He said there was nothing he could do since I violated the contract. He never apologized or offered to come take a look at it. I felt that he was argumentative when I spoke to him on the phone.

The overall experience was pretty bad. I am still waiting for them to respond to my emails. They did not do a quality job. They were supposed to paint today wherein I had to pay extra for that. They have not painted some of the ceiling. They were really unprofessional.Their price is good but it is not worth it.

We called HANDYMAN OF NY few weeks ago and scheduled our appointment right away. Mike, the guy who answered the call was very knowledgeable, its a PLEASURE dealing with professionals, he explained step by step the procedure, what options we have and suggested the best one. We decided to work with Handyman of NY because of their reputation, friend of our family recomended them and we made the right choice. When our technician came (Tony and Dimitriy) Dimitriy was lead technician, they proceed with their task.We hired them to to a few things, our tub, some electrical work and painting.When we bought the house the tub was horrible and we decided to glaze it, Dimitriy did a great job, he removed all the rust, sand it and glazed it. We chose almond color and it looks FANTASTIC.For electrical work, we needed to figure the wiring problem in a few boxes because lights were not working, we figure the wiring problem and installed 2 fans.And Tony was painting living room, kitchen and bathroom - the painting job is very neat and clean, they used drop clothes all over and we DIDN'T get any drips or paint stains. Trims looks great and the ceiling is white just the way it supposed to be. That what means when hiring a professional and reliable company. Next we scheduled to replace Circuit Breaker box - our is old and rusty

I sent them a list via email of what I needed done as they requested. It has now been a week and I have heard back from them to set up an appointment, nor any acknowledgement of receipt.
