Badly. They guy should say in his ad if he only works below 96th St. I live in Upper Manhattan -- Inwood -- the area is perfectly easy to get to and also safe. I feel that this company wasted my time. No problem, however with the refund from Angie's List! Hey, guys -- this form needs work. You can't "enter a date" for service that was not performed! same thing for the address.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for handyman service. It was very hard to contact the company -- calls not returned, etc. When someone finally did call me back, the guy was at first reluctant to come "so far uptown," and then refused to come at all: "I don't come to that neighborhood.

He came, and brought two new valves with him, but ended up using one of my own that I preferred. Took less than 15 minutes. only bad thing is he was 90 mins late, but did keep me updated regarding progress.
Description of Work: Needed assistance with taking out an old water spigot/faucet/valve that the water hose attached to outside the house and installing a new one. The old one was rusted in pretty good.

I’ve been in contact with them several times about scheduling the work. The most recent time, 2 or 3 days before our appointment, when I spoke with them they let me know that it was highly likely that they would have to fully strip my tub for an extra $300 (before they would guarantee their work). They couldn’t tell me if I would need this extra work or not until they saw the tub. I asked him if he could come take a look at it when they came and then to let me know if the extra expense would apply so that I could make my decision then and he said no I would forfeit the $159 Big Deal if I cancelled the reglazing for their travel time. I felt that this was dishonest and I don’t feel comfortable having them do any work in my home so I am asking for a refund on all my Deals with them.
Description of Work: I purchased some Big Deals for 6 hours of handyman work and a bathtub reglazing.

When I noticed caulk disappearing from around the tub, sink, bathroom wall tiles and toilet bowl base, as well as a little kitchen sink leak that could turn to trouble any day now, I decided I'd better check into hiring a handyman who could do it all and more - stat. After way too much time spent calling around town and speaking to a few guys (if they even bothered to call back) quoting outrageous prices, I was lucky enough to find Handyman of NY and believe me, I couldn't be happier! Mike not only returned calls promptly, but when he came out to do the job, he was easygoing, courteous and did a GREAT job at a very reasonable price! He fixed everything I was concerned about and a few other things I was questioning. From the caulking and plumbing (my tub faucet constantly dripped too) to figuring out why my dimmers keep blowing out to patching up areas out on my tiny terrace, Mike literally can do it all! I really appreciated his meticulous attention to detail, his suggestions (all good!) and wide range of skills, but he seemed to also take great pride in a job well done - a rare quality these days, especially in NYC! They can build things like shelves and closets, hang stuff on walls (that won't fall down!) and miraculously, Mike fixed my track closet doors, which hadn't worked well since I moved in 15 years ago! Being disabled and in a wheelchair, there never seems to be a lack of things around the house that I need help with when it comes to fix-it projects, so I'm absolutely thrilled to have found Handyman of NY - there's no doubt that I'll be calling again for a major Spring apartment do-over I've got planned!

They said the work would only take one week, but they sporadically worked for four weeks and never finished the job. One of the guys was also smoking in our house, and they broke several things around the house, and not just in the bathroom. The coupon also said that all materials were covered, but then they sent me an invoice and said that I had to pay for the materials. They also left some of the debris from the project in my apartment building's basement and never came back for them. They also started calling me and harassing me recently.
Description of Work: I bought a Big Deal from them to re-tile my bathroom.

Response from Handyman of NY
We started to work on the bathroom, but the building was very old and bathroom tiles along with all fixtures were original when the building was built, when we removed the tiles our contractor explained that the walls needs to be covered with cement board before installing new tile, which was additional labor and materials, other than that all other fixtures such as built in toilet holder, towel bar, soap holder, shower fixtures, etc were covered in rust and cement so it was not possible to remove without damaging one or another, so our company covered all damaged fixtures at no cost. ALL additional work, labor or materials were discussed with the customer before performing it. Customer was shopping for the tiles over 4 days, so nobody was working there because there were nothing to do, so when the tiles were bought, customer made a SIGNIFICANT mistake by purchasing a FLOOR TILE instead of wall tile and decided to install it on the wall which made our job harder, because tile for the floor much heavier. After we finished tiling customer requested to change an outlet which we refused to do, building electrical wiring was old and we never included that in the coupon – when customer said that he needs to leave town for a few weeks – and disappeared We contacted him recently regarding the due payment for additional labor and materials, but he never returned any of our call, BUT HE DID leave a review where he stated that we were “HARASSING” him ))) Funny, 6 feet tall, athletic build, African American guy vs our 5 feet tall contractor, not much of a harassment I’d say So final word we are willing to refund full amount and completely reimburse as soon we’ll receive a full payment of additional labor and materials. We serviced NYC for over 10 years and that’s a reason why we stopped servicing Harlem and Bronx, but I see Harlem and Bronx movin on up,To the east side.

He was not able to communicate with us via phone - his English is very limited. He had someone else set up the appointment. He did not do a thorough job of finding where the mice came in. He did a patch behind the stove but did not add a baseboard to keep them out. Mice continued to come into the kitchen and we had to hire someone else to solve the problem. We paid for 3 hours, a Big Deal from AL, but only got 1 hour of service and he was not willing to come back for a different project. He told us it all had to be in 1 visit. We lost money on this "Big Deal" and that affects our willingness to buy another one.

Dear Customer, When you hired us we explained that PEST MANAGEMENT and Handyman Services its 2 different things, you explained that you only want to close the holes - this is what we did. On the coupon it clearly stated 1 coupon per visit, PLUS Angie's List LIONS' SHARE of 40% from this price - is not really profitable to come back few times or split the coupon by hours.

It went very well. Handyman is very responsive. He has been having trouble with his e-mail so the response time to my original e-mail was long. But once we connected, he was very punctual and prepared.
Description of Work: Because the interior room was very small and ceiling was not included, Handyman and I came to an agreement . My daughter and i would paint the room over the Labor Day week-end and he would come and fix the gate on my deck. We sent photos of the gate and damage and Dimitri purchased the correct hinges and came and made the repair.

We purchased a bathtub refinishing coupon from Angie's list for $159.; I called the company to schedule an appoint, only to be told by someone who could barely speak English that I would have to request an appointment by email. I immediately sent an email and never got a response. Happily, when I contacted Angie's list and told them of the problem, they immediately issued a refund.
Description of Work: Services were not performed for the reason cited below.
All services that our handyman performed for us went perfectly, Alex cleaned up when he finished leaving no mess behind, that really surprised us, he had a small vacuum in his tool box, our previous handyman never did that, we?ll never go to another handyman. Alex helped us with light fixture installation and put up shelves, replaced few non working outlets and fixed running faucet. We also asked them if they can replace circuit panel, and Alex called the office for an estimate, which we recieved within few hours Next project will be replacing the panel.

It finally happened, we have found the company that we can rely and count on, its Handyman of NY, this company has great reviews and excellent customer service. This is a full service company and their slogan ?one call does it all? completely TRUE. We hired them for their reputation on Angies List, first we hired them for Handyman Specials that they had, but then Mike told us that they do many other services. Handyman services went great, Mike, our tech, was polite and he definitely knew what he was doing, no mess and efficiently everything was done. Definitely Recommend them to everybody. PS we already scheduled appointment with Tony for roofing repairs due to Hurricane.
Description of Work: Bathtub Refinishing & Liners Handyman Plumbing
Description of Work: Handyman of NY arrived on time, and reglazed my bathtub. Because there had been rust stains on the tub, I had always wanted to have this done, and was delighted when I saw this "deal" on Angie's List. However, I should have left well enough alone. He's ruined it entirely. The bathtub (which I didn't use for several days as per his instructions), peeled immediately, and was far worse than it had been before. And, he sprayed my tiles and ruined them, and also sprayed a few cosmetics, destroying them, as well. To his credit, he returned at the end of September to redo the job. He brought a cleaning product that fixed most (but not all) of the items he had damaged prior, and reglazed the bathtub. Afterwards, I didn't use the bathtub for at least a week. Nevertheless, it peeled again, and is a mess. To this date, the shower curtain still sticks to it, each time I try to unstick it, another piece of the glaze peels off. I have contacted "Handyman of NY" a few times about the unacceptable job he did, but he has refused to make good on it. I have now disputed the cost with American Express, but will need eventually to have his damage repaired, and restore the bathtub at least, to the condition it was in before I embarked on this. PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT HIRE HIM!!!! I couldn't be less satisfied, and can only hope that Angie's List and its devoted customers (me included) will never repeat this mistake.

We bought the reglazing package as a special early on in my bathroom reno, and Dmitriy let me know that his calendar was very full and would I be okay with waiting a month or so. Since I had so much other work to get on with that didn't bother me, but if you need an immediate job it would be smart to ask. I did have to chase him a little to fix a date. I'd had the tub done a few years ago and had a bad experience. The paint had sprayed all over the bathroom and it took me hours to clean it up. So before Dmitriy came I did a lot of prep since by this time the reno was nearly finished and I didn't want my new fixtures covered in paint spray. Dmitriy was surprised because he said that he would normally have done all of that. He actually stripped some of the paint from the metal around the drain which I was very grateful for because the last company had sprayed it when I didn't want them to. The process itself was very quick. Also Dmitriy's sprayer was much better than the last job and there was no excess paint anywhere. Last time there was so much paint in the air we had to wait hours before we could use the bathroom because the paint had to settle. This time, we could use the room straight away and there was no excess or spillover at all. Very impressed with that, but that's because Dmitriy had better equipment. At first I'd thought that the price was really good, but when he arrived he let me know that he recommended purchasing a bonder and primer since the tub had been glazed before - which brought the price of the job back up to what I'd paid before. So the price was standard, but the job much better.
Description of Work: Towards the end of complete bathroom reno, Dmitriy came to reglaze the bathtub.

No complaints on actual paint job. Had two coupons to use, 3 hrs. each. Appt. was for 10:00 am. My mother who was home said Handyman arrived after 10:00 am. Handyman called me after 10:00 to let me know that paint job would take more than six hours and If I wanted him to do the job, I would have to pay over $300. I asked him if I could just use my second coupon and he said that was fine. Handyman also said I would probably need another can of paint. I had 2 gallons of paint there for him and thought that would be enough because space to be painted was not huge. He said he would call me to let me know if he needed more paint. I called my house around 1:30 PM and my mother informed me that Handyman had already left the house. He was definitely not at my house longer than 3 hrs. I thought since he obviously was not at my house for over 3 hrs. I would be able to use second coupon. I emailed the company and I got a response from their "coupon and service specialist" Angela who basically said that both coupons were used toward paint project because handyman and painting service offered on their coupon are two different services and they did me a favor by not charging $99 for 3rd area of paint job, so thanks Angela for being so fair and accomodating to your customers, but I knew that paint job was not going to take anywhere near to 6 hours and it didn't (something your Handyman should know from his work experience). Angela was very eager to let me know that her Handyman has GPS tracking on his vehicle and "he was there almost 5 hours". Well my mother was home to let their Handyman in, endure his loud music and she was there to let him out, so she knew how long he was there and as I told Angela, my mother does not lie. So either their vehicle GPS system is not working properly or maybe their handyman used those extra 2 hours to go site seeing. So yes, Angela it was not a good experience and it's not " because it didn't go the way I wanted", but because your handyman was not clear on his explanation of service and just because you have GPS in your employees' vehicles does not mean that your employee is at someone's house doing their job. So would I recommend Handyman of NY...No I would not.

First he came to the door without any equipment or tools so I didn't know what to expect. I paid for a deal through Angie's List for 3 hours of Handyman Work for $99. I looked up the company, which only says Handyman of New York, has a business address in New York, but no phone number, just an e-mail address. It got decent reviews on Angie's List for Plumbing work and I needed quite a few things done. I needed several plumbing jobs performed. I have a bathroom sink on the first floor that only had hot water working through the faucet even though the water was on. I have an old kitchen sink (possibly from the 20's) that has a stripped stem I believe and it honks from air in the line. I also wanted to install shut-off valves under the sink since it does not have any. I have a bathroom sink on the second floor that leaks, a showerhead that needs to be replaced, and a toilet that whistles. He wanted to work on one thing at a time so he began with the sink that had only hot water working. He took the faucet apart, tried switching the cold and hot stems and it seemed to work for 5 minutes. He kept fiddling with it and tried using a tool to convert the stem to fit (which is made out of plastic), but he damaged it somehow and told me the faucet is no good. He suggested I buy a new one and bring this one back with the receipt for a refund. After he was done, I had no water at all coming from either faucet. He threw his hands up in the air and gave up. Strike one. On to the kitchen sink, which he said was too old and that the entire sink should be replaced. The stem makes the faucet turn off on it's own and he seemed confused and did not know what to do even when I showed him and gave him the part he needed to install. He listened to the honking and told me that he does not do that kind of work. He called his friend and held the phone to the sink so he could hear the honking and proceeded to give me the name and number of his friend, another plumber who can get the air out of the line. Strike two. While at the bathroom sink upstairs, he told me that it's old and they don't make them anymore and it should be replaced. Strike Three. By then I was done, and I did not show him anything else that needed work. He was there for 1 hour. I paid for 3 and even though I only paid $99, I think I got ripped off. I would not recommend Hanyman of NY.
Description of Work: In actuality, there were no services performed, except that he made my sink worse because the boy they sent over did not know what he was doing and was on his cell phone the entire time. Dimitri arrived slightly behind schedule, but that was not a problem. He was very polite and professional, and he knew his stuff. I showed him the shower door and the stove hood, both of which I had repeatedly tried to fix myself, to no avail. He knew just what to do to repair each of them. First he ripped out my failed shower door fixes, then he went to the store and bought the correct materials. He had to take out the bottom frame of the door to fix it, and as he worked, he cleaned out all the gunk underneath. He made the repair, reinstalled the bottom frame, and cleaned up thoroughly after himself. It worked! It hasn't leaked since. He then tackled the stove hood, which he fixed virtually instantly (I had wasted hours on it before calling). That repair has held also. I had bought an Angie's coupon for 3 hours of work time, and there was plenty of time left because Dimitri had worked quite efficiently. So he assembled my small exercise trampoline. I had been putting off that task because the product reviews had said that it was difficult to assemble, and he breezed right through it. I was very pleased with the entire experience and I will definitely use them again when the need arises.

He was a nice, compliant guy. He attempted everything I asked but did a sloppy job and left a mess everywhere he went.
Description of Work: He installed a kitchen faucet (poorly, as it turns out. It's loose now.) He hung two bathroom mirrors (again poorly. One is hanging out past the end of the wall.) He put a silicone seal (the wrong color) around my bathtub. He patches a hole in the wall in my basement.
