He seemed uninterested and rushed. He didn't want to do all of the work I had for him to do. Then I noticed after he left that one of the jobs was incomplete.

I went great, and the guy even gave me a back story on the type of lights we were installing to replace the old. So I learned something.

He did a great job, was timely, and cleaned up well.

When I originally sent pictures to this handyman for the work I needed, his inital response was that it was not part of the deal. When I wrote back that it said it was, he then told me it would take more than 3 hours. He made it seem that he wasn't interested. When I finally asked him to do whatever he could in the 3 hours, he gave me one date that I couldn't do. he then told me it would have to be after the 24th of August (which was about 2 1/2 weeks away) so I said that was fine and gave him a date and time and he didn't get back to me until the 23rd to say he wanted to do the 25th. So, I'm just not getting a good feeling here and decided I should find someone else.

The worker arrived a bit late, and as it was a Sunday and no one was in the office, he was a bit hard to reach to confirm that he was in fact coming, but in the end we were able to get in touch, and he did come that day and successfully accomplish the work. Although the main thing that was done was gutter cleaning, a relatively basic task, it had been a while since it was done, so it was a significant job, and it was done thoroughly and professionally. The worker also checked the roof for any problems, and reported a few loose tiles, but nothing major. Overall the work was done successfully and the price seemed fair, not a steal but also not a rip off. I was satisfied with the work.

Overall, if you are looking for someone to do a specific task professionally and with attention to detail, Alan is your man.

I hired Dimitri of Handyman NY to reglaze my free-standing claw bathtub with a Big Deal coupon. He came and sprayed it with paint (enamel, I imagine) and then told me to let it dry for a few days. I didn't use it for almost a week. Early on, it seemed fine, but within several weeks it started to peel. It's still peeling. A friend told me later that this isn't the way you reglaze a tub - he should have done more than just spray paint it. I have since read many negative reviews about his reglazing - everyone's tub is peeling, it seems. Most people who used this Big Deal are very unhappy with the service. But he just says 'I can't guarantee my work' and that's it. Some people have been advised to pay for a more expensive process, but to me that's just bait and switch. And Angie's List just says post your review. He's a nice guy, but he clearly did a slipshod job and got a lot of $$$ for it. I'm unhappy with Angie's List, and I've told them so. This is really not much better than taking a chance with a provider chosen at random from the phone book. If providers offer a Big Deal and it turns out to be a Bad Deal, what recourse do consumers here have?

Demetri painted the interior walls of my bedroom. He was prompt, polite and didnt drip or spill any paint. I wanted to have him paint the woodwork (for an additional fee) but he didn't have the time to stay. I certainly got my moneys worth but wondered if it was worth it to him as he had to pay the parking meter in Manhattan which is expensive.

Used their handyman service to install bathroom faucets. He arrived late and complained about how hard it is to install new faucets in my pedastal sink. That should have been a warning! Who does that?? He was super messy and the installation was not nice. I have issues with my faucet 6 months later and need to hire someone else to fix his mistakes. I will never use this company again! Super unprofessional and very messy.

I called the service provider, yet he never showed nor did he get back with me.

It did'nt. He said he was not coming to NJ and that was all right with me. I called Angie's list and reported the incident and my money was retfunded.

The handyman was pleasant and seemed competent. I have no complaints about the work. I found the process of making an appointment with this organization very frustrating however. The emails were not always responsive to my inquiries and I had trouble dealing directly on the phone. There was way too much back and forth to set up an appointment and then, being cautious because of this difficulty, I called to confirm and was told that my appointment had been changed from morning to afternoon. This had been done without asking me or informing me and I only found out because I called to check. They required me to be available for a substantial window of time before the "appointment" time to allow for the handyman's travels around the city. I was told I would be called when he was within half an hour of arriving which would have made the window tolerable but he did not call - just arrived. So while the work was fine the process around it took too much time and effort and was not very professional.

satisfied overall. a few missed spots which he touched up when asked. would recommend and hire again.

a Dmitri refinished our bathub with enamel. It was supposed to last five to 10 years. After six weeks, the enamel started peeling off in big patches. Later we found out that he should have applied some kind of acid wash first, followed by an adhesive. Instead he just sprayed the enamel on. He had no idea what he was doing. He told us he had a lot of experience with this, but he must have lied. Now our bathtub looks much worse than before, and is unpleasant to stand in, as it has big ugly patches missing, and is no longer smooth. It will cost us far more to have it repaired and looks worse than if we had had nothing done. Worst of all, when I tried to contact Dmitri to have him come correct his work, he ignored my e-mails and phone calls. So obviously this is his routine. He's a fraud.

Bought a new stove, which was supposed to include installation. After delivering the stove, the guys were unable to remove the old gas line from the wall. It was completely stuck, and not being plumbers, they did not have the right tools to dislodge it. I had contractors on hand during this time, and they couldn't do it, either. So, the delivery guys had no choice but to leave my new stove in the kitchen. And, I was also left with a nice hole in my wall! Not their fault, but now, yet another thing I needed to repair! Dimitriy to the rescue! I had used him before, to install a new faucet in my kitchen sink, and found the price very reasonable, as well as the quality of the work to be very good. The quotes I was getting for the stove from plumbers was absurd, so once again, I contacted Handyman of New York. As before, Dimitriy's price was very good, as was the work. And, he found a very inexpensive way to repair the hole in the wall behind the stove, which no one had even thought of! I will be using him again in the future -- probably very soon!

After about 2 weeks one bathtub started to peel. We contacted the contractor back and sent him pictures and we made arrangements to have it done again to the tub that had issues. All went well until about 3 months later when the same tub started to peel again. I sent 2 emails and did not get a response. I finally reached the contractor live after several attempts on the phone. He advises me he no longer does tubs but would contact me back. He gave me a pretty high quote for a different contractor that he said could be used. I am still in negotiations as I want a refund to be applied for the tub in question with the new company as the price is double than what I originally paid. More to come.

I had an Angie's List coupon for a tub reglazing from Handyman of NY for $159. I called for an appointment and was told they preferred email so I sent an email. When I didn't get any response I called Angie's List, after which they got in touch & we set up an appointment. Someone came (on time) and explained that an old tub is better off with a complete refinishing rather than a cheap job so I agreed to the complete refinishing ($559) with an inlaid bathmat. I am very pleased with the job - since the tub is built in I would have had to do a complete bathroom remodeling, tile and floor, if I had wanted to replace it. The refinished tub is beautiful - it looks brand new. However- the drain cover had been set into the wet glaze and could no longer be removed - this would cause a serious problem if the plumber had to get in there (hair sometimes clogs the drain). I emailed Handyman of NY about the problem but after a few weeks they had still not gotten back to me. I wrote a negative review for Angie's List and made a complaint, and immediately got a phone call from Handyman saying he had called 4 times but I had never called him back. There is a working answering machine here so I doubt that, but in any case someone came that day and fixed the problem. I withdrew the complaint and I am now very happy with the job. I would certainly use them again, though a bit more responsiveness to customers would be nice.

I purchased an Angie's List deal that cost $159 to have this company reglaze my bathtub. According to the deal, the price included labor and materials for a "complete bathtub re-glazing" in the color white. So I contacted the company and they were prompt to respond but mentioned that if I have a cast iron tub or a previously glazed tub that it would cost an additional $300 to first strip the tub. That would have been important information to include in the "fine print." They mention that "colors are extra" so they should also mention that stripping is extra and necessary for a proper re-glazing of those types of tubs. It did not indicate that in the fine print. I was not planning on paying $459 to have this job done. So I contacted Angie's List for a refund and they said they would refund the price I paid for the deal. I wanted to share this with other Angie's List members so you are aware of this extra cost. Again, I don't have anything negative to say about the quality of work for this company because I didn't end up having them re-glaze the tub. My negative rating is due to the fact that their deal was misleading. It probably was not intentionally misleading but nevertheless people should be aware of this extra cost.

It was far more difficult than it should have been. It took several calls and emails to get a response for dates, and then the dates were never confirmed. Totally understand and appreciate the difficulties of the storm and the challenges it posed; however, never received a response to a new date post storm from the times given. Follow up and follow through just did not happen, though the correspondence was pleasant enough. I would be more understanding if this only happened post Sandy, but communication was slow to nonexistent even before the storm hit. I wish that I could provide more positive feedback, but this was not what I was hoping for when I bought the voucher.

i bought 2 "big deal " coupons. i wasinstructed to contact this vendor but it took more than 10 days to get a esponse. when i fnally got a response, i was told the work i needed could not be done for at least 2 more weeks

It was not much of an experience. I bought the coupon from Angie's list and went to the website of Handyman of NY and filled out a web form to schedule an appointment. After a few days of no contact I called the number from the website and it happens to be to a cell phone of a guy who claimed to be the owner. I explained that no one responded to me to make an appointment. He would not make the appointment on the phone and told me to go to the website fill out the web form and someone would be in touch with me. I resubmitted a request and a few more days go by and no response. I called the number again and the same guy referred me to the web form again. I told him I already did that and that this was an emergency and that i needed to schedule an appointment. He said someone would contact me that day, but no one did. After a few more days go by with no response, I proceeded to contact Angie's List for a refund which they gave to me without a hassle. I had to go elsewhere to get the job done. I can't recommend this company at all. I understand they may be busy but it should not take more than a week just to make an appointment. I'm not even talking about them showing up I'm just referring to speaking to someone to make an appointment.

DON'T USE HIM! After I bought the coupon, I called repeatedly and calls were not returned. When he finally answered his phone (accidentally I guess) we set an appointment. He didn't show, didn't call. Same for a second appointment. Angie's list refunded my money but it was a waste of time and agitata!

He was on time and went through my list of tasks efficiently.

The reglazing was done in July and at the end of October I started to notice the bathtub was already beginning to peel. I contacted them and asked if this should be happening already and they said that yes, it can. Initially, it was just peeling in a few areas and now its cracking and peeling mostly all over to the point that I could pick it off. I contacted them to let them know what was going on and he said this is what happens if you have a lot of humidity in your bathroom. I asked to speak with a manager because I had written an email that was never responded to. I asked them to call me because I wanted to speak with someone. Eventually, on 11/26/12, I received an email from Angela saying that the material they used is not the best of materials and that the best of materials is called a porcelain top coating. So essentially she said the material that were used were not a good quality. She said they could resolve the peeling and cracking by using the porcelain top that included a 10 year warranty and that it was $549. She told me since I already paid $248 they would apply the porcelain top and only make me pay the difference. I replied to the email requesting to work something out - my main issues were why didn't they tell me this could happen within 5 months and why didn't they tell me about this better porcelain top option when they did the initial reglaze, especially since he had told me about the protective coating that cost me the extra $89, but this was only protection for anything being dropped in the tub. Since my response to Angela's email I haven't heard back from them at all. I realize that $159 was a small amount of money for a bathtub reglazing, but it was a waste of money since 5 months later it's already peeling and cracking so badly. It's a deceptive business practice to offer the service at such a low price when you know it's not going to hold up.

It was worth every cent. I hired for two hours, but he completed the work in one.
