Description of Work: Tried to fix several glitches of desktop aoftware. He failed completely. The tech the company sent was not adequately trained and had to call his office repeatedly. In the end nothing was fixed and I wsted both my time and money

I purchased a big deal for this company. I'm not too happy. The service technician came in, first of all they spent more time verifying that I had bought two hours rather than even one hour than they spent on helping me with the computer. They left with all kinds of things unplugged, I have to hire someone else now to come and help me. Not happy at all. He approved the man to come here for the two hours on the phone with me and the man just kept calling his office to make sure he should be here. It was ridiculous. And I needed him, I could have done it myself with the help of Dell to hook up my new computer and new printer which clearly on the box it had wireless and he left with my instructions to go to the store and buy the cord to hook it up. I'm sixty-three years old with four slipped discs. So all my cords when my person came to hook it up, it was actually Optimum. They put all the cords just under the desk and over, you know so the cords were all exposed and in my way. So the first thing I asked him was to move the cords to the back for me. He said why, that's they way they are there now? I said because that's why I'm having you in, I can't do it myself. I just was not happy. My printer wasn't hooked up, plugs, I just realized my phone was unplugged for two days. I'm not happy at all.

I was thinking about upgrading my computers with more memory because they were running slowly. Geek Choice said they would run a diagnostic to find out exactly what was wrong. I spoke with Apple directly, who advised me to purchase a new computer (one computer was too old and the other couldn't be upgraded). Ben, the Geek Choice tech, was very helpful, however.

The first appointment was cancelled (by phone) about 20 minutes in advance. I was able to reschedule for the next day and was given the name of the provider who would show up. Instead, TWO different young men showed up - seemed strange and when I asked, "Why two of you?" I was told "he's my brother". The brother was clearly unhappy to be there - or so it seemed. The other young man in charge didn't seem to understand that it would have been helpful to actually let me know what he was doing. Furthermore, he was difficult to understand. I don't think he actually did much of anything to change my computer except remove a toolbar which he said slows up the computer at times . He was done in 30 minutes (I paid for an hour) so I used a few more minutes of time to ask him a few things about my Iphone. ( I was uncomfortable having them in my home and probably should have let them leave after they did whatever they did.) Shortly after they left (10 minutes or less) I received a phone call - an extremely odd call - because there was a relationship between something I said when they were in the house and what was said on this call - I said "you have the wrong number" and hung up but felt it could possibly have been them playing a joke. I don't know. I would never use this company again and am surprised at the low level of professionalism.

Geek Choice initially had to re-schedule us, their rep was unable to make originally scheduled appointment. Once he arrived, spent an hour on the machine, checked for viruses and other abnormalities, surmised that we probably needed to upgrade our modem (as supplied by internet provider). Internet provider thereafter suggested we instead needed a better router. Both wrong! A friend who is an IT pro subsequently visted and was able to determine that the problem was in how the router was programmed. Fixed! Choices for home computer fix-it geeks are limited, most work with businesses only, not individuals with one machine. Geek Squad from Best Buy is one of the only other choices I'm aware of. Geek Choice is less expensive, about same level of competence.

They were prompt, knowledgeable. The only thing I was concern was that we had worked out a price for the diskette and they stayed in extra 15 minutes to do something and there was an additional charge, which I thought was kind of they are sort on the clock and if it had been like another hour or something like that or significant amount of time I knew it was an additional charge, I wouldn't kick, but the fact that they are here 15 minutes and they had to hand out some more money. I thought it was kind of unnecessary. With all respect the service was good, I can't complaint about any of that, but when someone gives you a discount price then they are looking to make little bit of extra money for what was minimal amount of extra time I think that not in the spirit of what was doing here. I would use them again in the future, but I would make sure that the parameters were more clearly spelled out.
Description of Work: I used Geek Choice in July. They came to the house to work on my son's laptop.

The company asked what was wrong with the computer, and when I told him that it was the motor board, they said it does not make sense to repair the computer, I might as well buy a new computer.

Technician called on Sunday, August 4th to confirm appointment on the 5th. Was very punctual. Worked on my computer for an hour and a half - there was a lot of unwanted material on my system. Since he went over the hour allotment, there was an additional $45 for the extra half hour. The technician was helpful and knowledgeable. I felt that he did a great job. The next day - August 6th, my computer started to exhibit some new "bad" behavior so I called the main tech number. The manager on duty couldn't have been more helpful -he investigated all of my computer's system remotely and got them up and running again. This overview took at least an hour and a half - and I wasn't charged for the extra help. GEEK CHOICE is on the top of my list when I need computer help/service in the future.
Description of Work: Computer technicial cleaned out my files, removed unused programs and checked for viruses.

Well, after he connected my Fax/scanner/copier to my Mac computer, only the copier worked! I had to phone him twice and he had to come back, and then he tried to reconnect. But the Fax and scanner wound up NEVER working. So he told me that the Brothers unit was not compatible with my Mac. But I feel that he should have known this from the start. Thus, I feel like I spent that money for nothing.
Description of Work: He backed-up my hard drive and also connected my Fax machine (it was a Brothers combination Fax, scanner & copier) to my Mac computer.

We had purchased a big deal for the service. They were very courteous, professional, and they were okay. I thought I got 75 Dollars worth of service, because they installed some softwares, so that I could defragments and a software package that cleans everything out. I probably got my money's worth, but I didn't think it was a big deal. We used another service in the past, it cost a little more but he was great, you had to drive there and drop it off and go back and pick it up, but it was worth it.

It was prompt and satisfactory. There was an additional charge for their services. It was $75 an hour and it was a little over an hour so it’s an additional $22. I like the tech that came. I got a bargain price. I got it for half price. They were punctual.

My only problem was that the service person was not completely versed in Mac computers and I had told the provider when setting up the appointment that I had a Mac. I was being charged "by the hour" and he had to do some online searches to find out how to solve my problems on my computer. He was able to answer most of my questions, however, one computer "glitch" reappeared shortly after he left, and I was given no instructions, by him, how to correct it on my own.

About a year ago, I took my computer to an Apple Store because when I turned it on the screen was grayed out. Apple sent it to a lab to be repaired, The lab replaced the logic board and did something to the track pad, and when it came back, there were just outlines where my albums and pictures had been in iPhoto. I was able to locate a few pictures from different sources, but most were unavailable. This was something I didn't discover until quite a while later; because I went away for an extended time immediately after the computer was returned from the lab and didn't access iPHoto before I left. The technician who came to help me called the lab and with their help was able to retrieve all the pictures. I'd certainly give in an A+ to him for this because I was so happy to have the pictures back. So, overall, I'm certainly not complaining, and i appreciate all the effort and time he put in. The company, by the way, didn't charge me for the forty minutes or so that he worked past the hour I had paid for, another positive. There are two reasons, however, for my overall grade of B. One is that my appointment was scheduled for between 10:00 and 11:00 on a Wednesday, and the technician showed up unexpectedly a little after 4:00 on the Tuesday before. Also, when I scheduled an appointment, I explained that I had an Apple and needed someone who worked with Apples. The technician who came was certified for working on PCs and, actually, seemed unfamiliar with Apples. Without the help of the lab, which wanted to charge him for their online help but ended up working with him for no charge due to his persuasiveness on this matter, I'm not sure he would have been able to do what he did. At least, he knew how to get help and knew enough in general about computers that he got the job done.. I blame the company more than I do him for the fact that he was faced with fixing a problem on a computer with which he seemed not to be acquainted. As I mentioned, though, I have my computer and am very happy with the service the technician provided.
Description of Work: The technician who came managed to retrieve hundreds of pictures that I had thought were lost and that the "genius" at the Apple Store had told me were lost.

It was not that great. There were some issues with them getting a technician to come to my house. The first guy that came didn’t do the job right. He left to get the parts that the said might help and then never came back. So I called their dispatch and they said that it was not their protocol and that was totally unprofessional and they would send someone else. So I rescheduled again. The guy that was supposed to come got into a car accident and then didn’t come so then I had to reschedule a third time and that time, the technician was able to come and fix things but they were also like an hour late. Overall, they did get the things that they were supposed to get done but it took 2 weeks to do that. They never charged extra for anything. I believe they ended up going over that hour but because I’ve been waiting for the 3rd time, I think they just wanted to make sure that I probably would write a decent review for them. That’s what I think.

Technician arrived on time. Discussed our requirements and existing problems. Performed some testing and analyses. Set up and eliminated conflicts in network of five computers. Service was started on Mon. 07/22/13 Tech arrived at 12:15pm and discovered that he needed apart (Netgear Adapter) in order to connect granddaughters computer. My husband and I decided to have the Tech start on connecting our printer while we waited for our son to return with the part needed for the other job. Geek Choice Tech appeared to be having a great deal of trouble with the connection of the printer (Canon) and had to call the company for assistance. In the mean time our son returned with the part for the other computer the Tech stop working on the printer while he waited for Canons Tech to return to the phone. He appeared to have finish with my granddaughters computer, and returned to the connection of our printer with the help of Canons Tech. Even with the help of the other Techs assistance Geek Choice Tech was still unable to complete the job. He stated that he forgot his work order and that he would email my copy as well as call me back the following day to complete the work. On the following week I had not heard from Geek Choice Tech and called the company on Mon 08/29/13 to inform them that there was problems with the service that I was suppose to have received on the previous week. Told that they would have their Tech call. There Tech return the call and ask would Friday 08/02/13 be a good time in the late afternoon. I told him that I would have to speak with my husband because of the time. Call him back told him no that the hours that wanted to come was not a good time. Every since then there was always a problem with return time the final draw was that he was suppose come this Wed 08/21/13 & Thurs 8/22/13 "NO SHOW". Called company Geek Choice 800-433-5435 today at 12:40pm spoke to a Joe that told me there was nothing that he could do since waited so long and was talking directly to there Tech. So He would have to transfer me to his manager no answer left a message on a answering machine. "PAYER BEWARE Of THIS COMPANY" I feel as if I was "HOOD WINK AND BAMBOOZLE". I had an appointment with Mark of Geek Choice to work on my computer on Tuesday, August 13th between 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. He called to say he was running late and asked if it would be okay to come between 3:00 and 3:30 p.m. I said yes and he arrived at 3:12 p.m. He was neatly dressed, professional and pleasant. He asked what problems I was having and proceeded to work on correcting those. He had difficulty correcting one problem, many of my documents having become "read only" and not allowing me to save changes, and called his supervisor for assistance. They came up with a solution and he corrected the problem. It took longer than the one hour I had paid for but I had expected that. In addition to the Big Deal price I paid for another hour. I'm was completely satisfied and happy to have my computer back working like it should.
Description of Work: Mark of Geek Choice cleaned up my hard drive, worked on several problems I was having with my computer and printer. He had a hard time correcting one of the problems but kept at it until it was resolved in a satisfactory manner.
