Big Johns Moving Inc

It was completely painless from scheduling the job from out of town, to going through a snow storm. They were accommodating and worked around my schedule. The two movers sent were excellent, professional and did a great job.

They arrived on time for the pick up but did not communicate the delay on the drop off end. The person waiting on the furniture and myself had to call to see what the delay was. I feel that we should have been contacted as soon as they knew a delay was going to happen. This delayed other responsibilities for the day.

At the Queens Blvd. entry ramp cars were merging into traffic. I stopped to let a white car merge into traffic after which I started to move forward again, only to realize that a large truck had already also begun inching into the space before me (disobeying the rules of a proper merge). My first thought was "he's not going to try this is he?" But apparently he was, and sure enough he side swiped the front passenger side of my car with the back of his BIG JOHN'S MOVING TRUCK. I laid on my horn, but as traffic opened up, the "BIG JOHN'S TRUCK" moved into another lane and took off. I followed in pursuit. I memorized his license plate# and used my phone to take a picture of the truck - BIG JOHN'S MOVING" and a phone number on the rear panel. My wife happened to call at the same time and I gave her the information and she called "BIG JOHN'S MOVING" Co. to report the accident. They were quite rude to her and blew her off saying "call tomorrow". When I got home I called "BIG JOHN'S MOVING" and tried to work with the company so that the driver wouldn't lose his license in what was a clear cut "HIT AND RUN". My mistake! The folks at this organisation played an evil game of cat and mouse with me over the next 1 1/2 days, first pitting me against the driver, who then pointed fingers at the company who then held me at bay for hours telling me that there was no one in authourity present that I could talk to. Eventually, a day later, I got a phone message from a very impersonal woman named "Maria" (no last name given when we returned the call) who explained in a very legalese type language that "While we did have a truck in that area yesterday, the driver has assured me that he was in no way involved in any kind of accident." In frustration I turned to my insurance Co. (Progressive) who explained to me that they were really just trying to "Get away with murder," and that without the police report that I should have gone ahead and called 911 that evening. i did not think at the time to bother 911 with a Hit and Run as I would be tying up their lines for more important issues. $500.00 deductible later and three days without my car and I was finally back to a complete auto. What "BIG JOHN'S MOVING" wasn't counting on however, is that I am a member of ANGIE'S LIST, and after noticing one of BIG JOHN'S adverts in the Angie's List magazine, I figured I could at least WARN OTHER MEMBERS before they get involved with this unscrupulous company. I also noticed the negative reviews they have received.

I reached out to Big John's to determine what my moving costs would be. They came to my apartment and provided me with an estimate. The person providing the estimate listened to my concerns/needs and provided me with several options. He understood that I didn't have a lot of disposable cash and he clearly explained all of the options. Big John's were familiar with the building I was moving out of and the building that I was moving into. They provided all the necessary paperwork (bond, insurance) on time and as required by both buildings. I contracted Big John's to pack my apartment and deliver everything to the new apartment (no unpacking). They were all very professional and did the work quickly. I never got the feeling that they were padding hours. They also took some of the boxes (non-fragile items like books, clothes) that I had packed myself - I used their boxes and it wasn't an issue. The reason that I bring this up is that the previous time that I moved, the moving company took the boxes that I packed, unpacked them, and then repacked them. The estimates that they provided for packing, loading, transporting and unloading were very accurate! I only paid for the time and materials that I used; they finished early (I had already done some packing) and didn't use all of the anticipated boxes and this all reflected in my final bill. I ended up giving them a bit extra in tip because the final bill was lower than I expected.

So, I did not choose to use Big John's

They were prompt, friendly, efficient, and good-humored. I was very impressed by their care for my possessions and for the structures: I don't think they made a single scratch on the walls of the twisty staircase, and they helped me put protective felt pads on every piece of furniture being placed in the new apartment, which has beautiful wood floors. I can't say much about the price because I didn't get any other estimates, but it seemed fair to me.

Big John's moved my 85 year old parents from their home of 50 years to an apartment. We knew we were in for a good experience when the employee (Nick) came to look around the house and give us the estimate. He arrived exactly on time and gave us some very good advice. He told us to pack as much as we could on our own and it would save us both time and money in the long run. He told us that work we did on our own would be deducted from our final payment. and it was. The crew that moved my parents, led by Luis, was efficient, friendly, professional and most importantly, sensitive to the needs of my elderly parents who were going through a very traumatic experience. The crew was patient with them and very respectful. As the daughter about to pull my hair out, I was impressed. I used this company partly because of Angie's reviews and I now would like to add to the accolades of Big Johns Movers Sincerely Amy

A representative came to our home to assess the move and gave us a written estimate. On the day of the move there was torrential rain and a mini tornado just a few blocks away. We required 2 large trucks and 8 men. Despite the weather, our movers were able to perform their jobs with diligence. My family is forever grateful for making such a difficult move pain free.

After the estimate, and cancelation of the requested time, I did not go ahead with the move.

I have enormous trust in this company, they have kept my items in storage. They take special care to contact me and make sure we remain on the same page. They are very easy to work with. The customer service is good.

This is the 2nd time I have used this company and they were EXCELLENT again. I would highly recommend them!

Overall, it went very well, especially considering that we had less than one week's notice to plan and complete the move. Some advice... the more prepared the client is, the more accurate the bid can be. Also, if the client packs as many of their own possessions as possible, the less time the movers have to spend on the job, and the lower the labor cost. I prepared an itemized list of approximate number of boxes and the furniture to be moved/stored, and called and emailed the requests for quotes to 7 companies. Big John's promptly contacted me by phone to discuss the project. Other companies relied more heavily on email, and two of the companies never responded. Big John's estimate was in the same ballpark with the other companies that replied. Initially, Big John's couldn't handle the project because they were booked on the day we needed to do the move. Vivann, my customer service rep., called me back the next day, and advised that another client had cancelled, and that Big John's would be able to do our move after all. Her attentiveness, their experience and pricing led me to choose Big John's. On the day of the move, the movers arrived about 40 minutes later than expected, but they handled the move very well, and took great care in packing up our flat screen TV, large framed artwork, and three pieces of furniture that are each over 200 years old. I would definitely recommend Big John's.

They were on time and on budget (exact to the penny). Very careful with my merchandise and very polite. The kind of people you want to do business with.

They had to move a piano among other things and they did okay with that. They did a good job. They showed up on-time. They were efficient with their time.

Big John's was able to schedule an estimate very quickly (within a day or two of my initial call) and give me a written quote. Their quote was considerably less than that of other reputable vendors who also did estimates so we went with Big John's. They were just a little late showing up to do the move (about 15 minutes or so) but worked efficiently and professionally. Much to my surprise, the whole job ended up costing LESS than was originally estimated. We were very impressed. The furniture is now is their storage facility (they gave us first month's storage free).

Overall a very good experience. They provided a home visit for estimate and to discuss details; arrived for appointment punctually. Gave good advice overall, advised us on cost effective ways to achieve the move, as opposed to trying to extract as much money from us as possible. On move date, the team arrived on time, were very courteous, efficient, hard working. Moved everything in less time than estimated. The price was very good compared to past moves I have done. I would put them first on my list to contact for future moves, and have since recommended to two friends, one of which I know used them and was also happy.

I called Big John's Moving the day before I had to move out of my apartment. They were helpful and understanding, and were able to accomodate my last-minute request. They gave me a quote, and broke it down into moving / transportation segments. They arrived on time, and the 3 guys they sent were personable, professional and very courteous. They moved efficiently and quickly, and made sure all of my furniture was well-wrapped before it went into the truck. They actually came in almost $200 UNDER the estimate! Since I had paid the fee with a cashier's check, they sent me a check to cover the refund amount; I received this in a few days. I highly recommend this moving company! Hopefully I won't have to move again for a wile, but if I did, I would call them in a heartbeat. Thanks Big John!

They arrived early before the appointed time and had to wait for me. I did all the packing beforehand except for tv and printer which they protected. Pretty straightforward and simple move but I did have 3 glass topped and 1 marble topped tables that needed to be removed and packed separately. They sent 3 men as per estimate – 2 did the moving and 1 stayed with the truck. They were efficient, pleasant and nothing broke. Final price was actually less than estimate because I did not have them move couch to dumpster as originally expected. They confirmed details with me the day before the move and had already provided my new place with Certificate of Insurance as required without my follow up. Only negative is that my bed frame that they set up came apart the next day and I had to remove the mattress and box spring and reconnect the frame myself. I’m not sure if they did not do it correctly or something else.

Overall they did a great job. The only thing I was dissappointed with was that it took about 11 days for them to get here. They quoted that they would be a little sooner. However, the service was very professional, and they were on time. Everything went smooth as far as asking questions and getting answers. They handled our belongings with care, and nothing was broken or scratched.

They gave a reasonable rate. They came when they were supposed to and they left when they were supposed to. They were done in 8 hours with over 81 boxes.

They did a very good job with the move. The only reason why we didn’t use them again was because of the storage facility. We weren’t happy with the level of cleanliness.

They were absolutely amazing. Fast, efficient, courteous, professional and they even came in under their estimate! From the visit for the estimate, the company was very helpful and transparent about their pricing, services and in setting expectations. They also had suggestions to save time (eg, schedule move on the day where alternate side parking would allow the truck to park right in front), which all worked. The movers were speedy yet very careful. Everything moved without a scratch. Even with the three flights of stairs at the new apartment, they were still unbelievably efficient. There were no "surprises" at the end of hidden costs. Only the very pleasant surprise that the total was lower than the original estimate. This move experience was so positive and unlike any other I've had (and I've moved numerous times) where I actually was not stressed and did not feel cheated or frustrated. I would highly recommend Big John's Moving, Inc.!!!

This is the best company I have ever hired to do anything ever. They were freaking amazing. They showed up exactly on time, had the right number of dudes, and emptied out my old place at what seemed like the speed of light. Everything that I had been concerned would be difficult or complicated to move they had figured out what to do with and moved it before I had a chance to say I was concerned about it. Like, I have a gigantic flat-screen computer monitor-- I had no clue how to box it. Before I could even say "I don't know what to do with this", The Big John's Moving guy had whipped out a box cutter and a roll of packing tape, took two regular boxes and fabricated a custom shipping case and carried the thing down the stairs. I had a couch with a fold-out bed, heaviest thing you ever saw, and three flights of stairs-- these guys ran down the stairs with it like it was made of styrofoam. My move took maybe three hours total (I expected it to take all day), nothing missing, nothing broken, and when they were done-- I swear this is true-- the foreman of the job looked at the price they had quoted me based on my estimate of how much stuff I had ($1000), concluded that I had overestimated, and made a note to refund me $200; I got the check in the mail two days later. If you're looking for a mover, look no further; these are the guys.

Since the building I moved into had a 4:00 pm cut -off I asked the movers to start at 7:00 am. They were prompt (7:15) and the whole job was finished by 2 using one truck and 6 men. There was no breakage, and bed and futon were taken apart and put back together perfectly. An excellent job and they came in UNDER the estimate! One piece that I think helped a lot was arranging space for their truck in front of both places, using parked cars and alt side parking. If you're doing your packing, use lots of bubble wrap (200 sq ft at Staples for $17) and pack everything.Since it's NYC I tipped 20%.
