They also delivered a refund promptly as the job was completed faster than projected. Wouldn't use any other mover.

Description of Work: My wife and I sold our NYC co-op and planned to move to our town home in Berlin, MD, but also wanted to move our NYC furniture to our Ocean City Condo across the bay which we rent out. The trip to MD from NYC is slightly more than 4 hours and the OC property is 8 miles from the Berlin town home. I conactex a least 10 moving firms and got prices and estimates.Needless to say many low balls came from the franchise type companies. We narrowed the field to two based on reviews and recommendations from our friends. We called in Big John's and OZ and their field reps visited our home and estimated the costs. Oz did come in lower but Big John was more realistic, stating this had to be a 2 day move and not a 16 hour straight move that Oz proposed. We received a firm written estimate from Big John's which many of my friends wish they would have had. You know the old this is more than we thought switch.Oz estimated three men load in NYC and two ride down and unload in MD. I could not see this as we had a double unload in MD. We went with Big John's and we could not have mad a better move. They showed up on time on 3/22 at 9AM and had 4 men doing the loading. They helped us box items we had forgotten about and were finished shorltly after 1pm at which time they took the truck to their garage in the Bronx as this was a dedicated truck meaning no other clients going with us. We went to MD and awaited Big John the following day and promptly at 11AM our supervisor and driver of the truck Ephraim showed as promised with two of his crew who had done the loading. They helped us in our Town Home by moving some things around that needed tobe placed elsewhere and then in two and hald hours time were finished. My wife asked the crew to do a few extra tasks and they happily complied. We then drove the 8 miles to the Condo in Ocean City and they completed the movement and placement of the NYC furniture properly and expeditiously then they headed on back to NYC. Moving is always a difficult task and as I am 74 years old it seemed almost impossible, but thanks to Big John's moving everything wemt perfectly and the price was that exactly as quoted in their estimate. I cannot recommend Big John's moving highly enough. My frriends who had used them in the past were right. Big John's is A1 in my book.

The best we could imagine under the circumstances. Likely any circumstances. For a bit of our back story, we lost our dad in May and our mom in January. April was the only time our family could get together in New Jersey, which is miles from our home addresses. Dissembling their home of 11 years was not something we looked forward to. We had interviewed two other companies (also mined from Angie's List) during the winter, but from the get-go Big John's rose to the top of the list. Nick the Appraiser will be your first face to face contact, though Yvonne, your phone contact, is also smart, efficient and polite. Nick had the right answers to the pivotal questions about who would be handling our valued possessions on the trip from New Jersey to California. In our view the only right answer was Big John's and only Big John's with the same drivers from coast to coast. No other moving company offered that advantage. After minor negotiations of price, very minor, we signed on. And today was the day of the actual move. Precisely on time, 4 men appeared at our door, smiling and warm, but appropriate. And like Yvonne and Nick, they proved to be professionals to the core. They got down to business and only looked up to ask necessary questions about what is going where or to point out a chip in an antique cup or plate. In a few short hours, they were done. Ask for Efrem, Freddie, Paul, and Javier. They are as good as it gets. Once the move was done, we call The Boss, Big John, to thank him. Not surprisingly he is also a class act. And he assured us the drivers handling our boxes are the best in the business. Sight unseen, we believe the man. Ok, here's a DON'T. DON"T give your choice of mover a second thought.

Description of Work: We moved from NY to Maryland and we originally contact another company listed on Angieslist...moving man. They put us off for almost 3 weeks until it they finally said that they could not help us with the move. They also did not contact me as promised with an estimate and dates as they kept promising. Big Johns was quick, polite and efficient and got us organized and accommodated in the quick turnaround time we needed. Kudos to Aaron and Jeffour movers! They were fast, efficient and extremely friendly. I would HIGHLY recommend Big Johns Moving Company.

Description of Work: This was a move from Brooklyn, NY to NJ. I first made an appointment for an estimate. They were right on time and the price quoted turned out to be the price I actually paid. They confirmed the moving date twice by telephone before the move. On moving day a team of 4 came and took only 2 hours to pack up a 2-bedroom, 1 1/2 bath apartment. Travel time was 1 1/2 hours and it took them 2 hours to completely unpack. This was a great team. They wouldn't let me touch a thing but did all the work themselves. From the moment they arrived they did not stop working for anything. No talking, no breaks, just work. It was the same at the other end when they unpacked. After they had placed all the furniture where I wanted it, I changed my mind a few times. They were more than happy to make any changes I requested. The team was courteous and professional at all times and I would not hesitate to use them again or recommend them.

Description of Work: My crew moved a grand piano, a pile of HUGE rocks up a hill, a ping pong table, a freezer (up a winding staircase) and a pile of doors (from the attic) among other things--expertly. Without complaint. They had to disassemble the piano and reassemble it at the new location. All done quickly and with total knowledge of how to do it. The move was complex and there were a lot of steps--and they did them all just right. Nicest guys. Also, Big John's gave me a discount because there would be 6 hours of travel time total--for some of the time they charged me for three guys even though they gave me four guys. (They charge on an hourly basis.) I tipped them over 20% of the final amount, of course. ($110 each times four--just to give you an idea of how much CASH you have to bring along--bring more than you think!) They deserved every penny.
