Considering the damage done to the community from the snow storm, their scheduling to do the work was reasonable. The work team was very pleasant, seemed highly skilled and worked very efficiently. Having used them before and satisfied with their performance, I used them again with good results. My gardener did some of the work that had been in the original estimate and they reduced the bill to reflect this.

Our property has a lot of trees and we have used Almstead repeatedly over the years to prune and fertilize them. They have always done an outstanding job for us. For this recent work, we got cost estimates from 4 different companies and Almstead's was the most reasonable. Patrick McVey, the arborist we worked with, is very knowledgeable, a true professional and a pleasure to be around. He really listened to what I wanted and saw that it was done well. When the crew finished the work, they cleaned up the yard so well you would never have guessed they had been there for most of the day if you didn't know. And when there was another branch that I felt should have been removed, Patrick sent the guys back to take care of it a few days later at no extra charge. In short, we were very happy with their work - we highly recommend Almstead and will continue to use them in the future ourselves.

The job turned out well. They were responsive and were very quick to have the arborist come out. The people that I dealt with over the phone were fast and very nice. I would like it to be cheaper. I have been using them on and off for about four or five years.

They came in to assess what my needs were and then they trimmed the trees. I spent around $900 for their services. They were very knowledgeable about the trees. They helped to identify what trees I have. They did more than I expected they would do; so that was good. The quality of their work and their equipment were both good. They had the proper manpower to do the job. They responded and kept in touch with me. I haven’t used them lately. They came when they said they were going to come. One man came to survey and then the crew came. I don’t know if it was the same day or the next day. They were very professional too and I would use them again.

Their cost is reasonable. They come on time, are clean, and follow through.

The work was fine, and they came in under the estimate. They were very professional and cleaned everything; they left everything better than it was when I got there. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.

Arborist was punctual, professional, informative. Thorough inspection yielded no obvious problems: no bugs, no disease, no fungus, etc. Probable cause cited: heavy snow and cold the winter before, possibly not enough water despite sprinkler system. Further inspection showed little or no root system despite 20 years of excellent growth in the same place. Very knowledgeable and willing to explain in detail, but for me not conclusive enough for 10 dead arborvitae. Arborist suggesting replacement of dead trees, with associate costs, and program of soil treatment for retention of soil and conditioning. After consideration, I decided to do one soil treatment, then wait one year (another NY winter) No charge for consultation, however, I requested one time deep feeding and soil conditioning for the 15 remaining trees. This was done satisfactorily, for approx. $300. So far this year no more trees have died. I was offered a self-renewing contract for maintenance, which I declined.

They did the work intially in August. I felt the job was not done, so I asked them to come back. I am very busy, so I cannot get in contact. I am in the process of resolving it.

There were initially some problems with scheduling and some cancellations. Some of the work was carried out not quite according to instructions and I would have preferred a bit more completeness. However, when this was brought to the attention of the owner, Ken Almstead, he responded with speed to set up another date to insure that the work was carried out to my complete satisfaction. He made a point of stating, “we truly look to exceed clients’ expectations when it comes to quality, professionalism, knowledge, service and price. When it doesn't go as planned it’s a loss for us as well as the clients”. This work ethic was well demonstrated with the follow up visit and when the work was completed, I was quite impressed with the service that this company had provided and the responsiveness of Mr. Almstead.

I am very satisfied with the work that they have done. They are expensive but they are worth.

Almstead has taken care of our trees for several years. They have brought the hemlock trees in our back yard back from the grave. All of their personnel with whom we have come into contact have been knowledgeable, attentive to our concerns, careful of our property and respectful of our neighbors.

I have lived in this home for 34 years and I have used Almstead’s services for many years. I have always been very satisfied. I was concerned with a tree near my house. I called them and an arborist came out and within a few days the tree was down. They have an excellent service and provided excellent follow-up.

They did a good job. They did everything perfectly.

I find them to be dependable, on time and cheerful. They do what they say. I have expanded my service over the years. They were now doing lawn care as well. When I asked them to use organic they switched. They have had a lot of deer problems over the years. I am dissatisfied that Almstead didn’t recognize this and tell me that they have products to repel deer. I am disappointment that they didn’t show more initiative in that respect.

I did not have a good impression of them. The guy came on time for the consultation. He came on a Saturday and he was supposed to get back to me on Monday with a quote on how much it would cost. I called them the following week to find out what was going on. I had talked to other companies, but I wanted to know what their price was going to be. I don?t know what happened, but they never got back to me. They said somebody would call me later and 2 days later the crane guys just showed up at my house. I didn't even know he was going to be coming. He was very surprised that they never let me know he was coming. He was the reason they were waiting to get a quote, but they told me they couldn't get hold of him. He said that he didn't know what they were talking about because he was available and they just called him. Something happened, but I ended up not using them and went with somebody else. I definitely had a bad experience. Not that he did anything wrong workwise, but I didn't find it professional. I definitely would not consider using them or getting a quote from them in the future.

I hate the company. I do not like them at all. It was something that was discussed that I wanted to get done, but I didn't approve it. They sprayed the trees to kill the fungus on them, but they didn't tell me that they were going to do it. They discussed that as an option, but I never gave approval. They came and did it without telling me and then charged me. I had a fight with them about getting that charge canceled because it was something that was optional but was not agreed upon. When I asked them how I was going to eat the fruit, they didn't say anything. I really had no problem with the lawn care. The price wasn't bad. The problem did get resolved, but it took a lot of effort on my end. I absolutely would not hire them again.

I thought that they were really reliable. The sales person that came here was very, very nice and his team came on time. They seemed to be wearing all the emergency equipment and in that way I thought that they were pretty good. I guess that they were very trustworthy.

I thought the price was a bit high, but they came very highly recommended so we went ahead. There were two issues that came up: I requested in the copy of the contract I faxed back, to modify the deep root treatment to exclude some of the trees in our yard. That was not modified and I don't know if they used the full volume of fertilizer for 5 trees on 3 trees, but the bill was for the quantity for 5 trees. They did modify the bill, but I wasn't too happy with the mix-up. Also, we have very overgrown rhododendrons in our yard, which we asked to be pruned. I wanted the expertise of their service to properly thin it out and make it more healthy, but they just trimmed the tips. I was not home on the day they performed the work and apparently the arborist wanted to go over exactly what they needed to do with me, but I was very busy at work. I realize that I needed to be there to supervise the work to get things done right. In retrospect, I could have had my gardener, who is much cheaper, to do the work. We do continue to use their service for on-going maintenance of our yard. All the shrubs look much healthier, except the overgrown rhodos, which I will prune sometimes this summer. They do have good experts, but I may be looking for cheaper alternatives next year.

They were supposed to come back to me with a quote that week, but they didn't and it was an odd situation. They must have lost my information. They finally got me a quote after I had given up on them. Their quote was too expensive and it wasn't even in the ballpark as the other two companies.

Chris is the arborist who comes out to my home to look at all of the trees. They are expensive for their services, however they do a very good job. I will use them again in the future.

They are definitely the best in the area. They are also, well-known in my area. When they came to do the work, everything went very well. They were quick and clean. I had tried a couple of companies in the past, but Almstead Tree & Shrub Care definitely had the expertise. They even did some extra work, but they didn?t charge me for it. The trees cut by them were 90 years old. I didn?t want the trees to go through my relatively new roof.

Estimate was very detailed and included all the work requested. Men arrived on time, conferred with the owner during the process and shredded and cleaned up all the materials removed.

Almstead tree & Shrub Care Company is a very professional company. I was very glad to see that they were very careful not to let anything fall on my neighbor's yard. What small amounts did fall there they cleaned up very nicely.
