Hi, my name is John, and I'm the founder of Trapper John Wildlife Management Services. I pride myself on old fashion values that were instilled by my mom. When I was a teenager of which I still can recall clearly today how important my first job was to me. It was more to me than just independence, but rather on pushing the limits of my job position. I didn't just want to be good at what I was doing, but rather the best at it. I then began understanding people, people’s needs and how vital customers are to the success of a brand. At the very same time I also began noticing how many companies lost the fundamentals of serving customers and from their Trapper John came to light. Since then (Trapper John) I have been featured in "The Brooklyn paper", The New York Times", on the popular "NHK" Japanese cable channel, reviews on "Yelp" and let’s not forget Angie's List. Through more than 20 years of experience in urban wildlife issues, we've proven that even the most difficult problems have a humane solution. Our clientele span a wide range of satisfied customers, including large organizations such as Verizon, Home Depot, and New York City governmental agencies, as well as numerous industrial, commercial, and residential consumers. We are "not" a pest control company that uses and/or sprays dangerous chemicals and poisons. We use a winning combination of modern high tech equipment and in depth wildlife experience. We only deal with "wildlife species". As a result, we provide you a solution that offers long term peace of mind. If you wish to contact us then, please only do so by via phone. Thank you

I worked with him and I was very happy about it. I thought he was very knowledgeable and he was very effective. He was very knowledgeable about what needs to be done. He has a great support service so he basically makes the commitment to any problems that you might have in the future. It is not an event driven thing it is a service over time. I thought that was a great idea and that he was very good at it. He has actually been back since the original engagement. I thought his price was probably high compared to others but I felt that it was worth it. Not only initially did I think it was worth it but I have thought it was worth it when he has come back. He has been back twice. He has helped with new animal break ins.

Trapper John showed up early for appointment! Worked for two hours, mostly in the dark (7PM to 9PM). Explained in detail all about problem and how he was going to fix it. Found Squirrels had entered house through "rotted wood"by Gutter and downspout. Cleared Mother Squirrel and babies and then blocked off entry way with wire and wood. Checked entire roof outside and inside attic. Advised need to listen for any activity inside and out and call him if any problems - so far none noted! A true professional and a pleasure to work with. I can't say enough good things about my experience. Would not hesitate to recommend and would give "TJ" an A++ If you have a pest control problem call Trapper John first and you will not be disappointed.

I was concerned about noises in the bathroom ceiling as that's the only place where they are heard. He tried gaining access to the ceiling but could not as it is tiled and the fan was anchored in a way that could not be removed. Of course it was very quite while he was here. Unfortunately, the If problem persists, will need to break a wall.
Description of Work: Checked the roof and around the house to find any openings/cracks where animals could enter.

John Kerpo spent approximately FOUR months trying to get a raccoon to pull herself and her babies out of my roof. After locking her in the area for a week at a time, SHE, the raccoon, finally pulled the babies out and went elsewhere. He provided a four year "Gaurantee" that she would not reenter. He sealed my roof caps where she had gained entry. She is back again this year. She did not get in through the roof caps, but instead tore five different areas of my roof apart until she gained entry. She ripped a hole in one spot and is entering and exiting there. I spoke with "Trapper John" and he stated that he DOES NOT guarantee this and will not come back unless I pay ANOTHER $1200 due to the fact that she did not enter the same way as last year! I will be hiring someone else who WILL catch her and remove her permanently, as well as repair the damage, clean, and deodorize her scent from the area.

Let’s take this from the top. The paid receipt dates are 8/29/13 and 10/10/13 of which in that time frame the work was completed (within Five (5) weeks at most). Now prior to starting ALL raccoon jobs I make it my business to be clear and explain the time frame on ridding raccoons. Raccoon jobs are a bit tricky and in some cases I can rid them within 24hrs other cases a bit longer, simply because each case is unique. For the RECORD I do not lock ANY animal in for a period of one week. Secondly all my work is guaranteed; in this case it was the roof vents, which is guaranteed for a period of four (4) years. So being the fact the raccoon has ripped open your roof (NOT the roof vents) you clearly expect not to be charged. Speaking of charges If you look on your final receipt you’ll notice that I had taken off $200.00 from your bill. Now your review was not based on my overall service performance but rather on an unwarranted part of the house of which you are unhappy about. So you based your rating off of unhappy feelings. Namaste~

Trapper John is a fascinating person and very effective wildlife abatement expert. We had squirrels living in our attic. When we called Trapper John, he said he wouldn't kill the squirrels, but rather set up devices that would allow them to leave the attic and prevent them from returning. When I expressed scepticism, he said that this method was the best method and that he understood how squirrels behaved and it would work and he guaranteed it. By this time we were desperate as the squirrels were eating their way through our top floor ceiling and threatening to drop into our living quarters. We said ok. Trapper John that day inspected the roof and sealed off with wire mesh the likely areas of ingress and egress for the squirrels, leaving one area with a device that was a one-way tunnel that allowed the squirrel to leave but prevented her - TJ said it was a female with a brood (the males don't nest like this, they roam around) - prevented her from returning. He said it would take about 5 days for all of them to get hungry and thirsty and want to leave. When he was installing the one-way tunnel, indeed a large squirrel ran up to us (I was on the roof watching TJ work) and stared at TJ for a second and ran away. TJ said then that that was the mother and the brood was young adult squirrels as opposed to babies. I asked how he knew. TJ explained that if they were babies, the mother would have been more aggressive and flicked her tail, being more protective of babies than young adults. TJ finished up his work and I paid him half the quoted price. He said he'd be back in 5 days to remove the one-way tunnel and seal everything up. In 5 days he returned, sealed it all up and I paid the remainder. TJ gave me receipts and a written guarantee. The squirrels were gone. We haven't heard a scratching since he worked with us. He not only solved our squirrel problem in a professional and humane way, he taught me something about animal behavior. I highly recommend Trapper John.

Very professional, explained the process and what needs tournpike be performed. Followed up at all steps of the way and called back to confirm that the problem has been resolved. Had squirrel issue that my normal exterminator was unable to correct over a period of months, John was able to correct the situation with in a period of a few weeks. Opposed to capturing the squirrels, the entry point were blocked off and one way exits were implemented, once the squirrels went out they no longer could get back in.

The big deal was just for an eye ball on the site. I had never used him before. He didn't really climb up and take a good look. He said he could tell what kind of rodent was involved just by looking at the ground. There are still rodents there.

The BIG Deal was for a wildlife inspection of the property, which in fact entails going up a ladder and thoroughly inspecting the entire exterior upper section of the house. The property owner was “only available via telephone” meaning he was absent from the inspection. Prior on taking the ladder off the truck I always survey a property from the ground and in this case by doing so… I immediately notice that the exterior of the property needed major work. While we were on the phone I simply recommend and explained why it was BEST for a ground evaluation (FREE) as oppose to the BIG deal wildlife inspection ($49.00) thus saving him the unnecessary cost. “The saying holds true no good deed goes unpunished” Oh well! The property owner insisted for the wildlife inspection. At that point I did what the property owner wanted. After carefully going around the entire premise “on the ladder” what I found were pigeons, squirrels and possibly raccoons living in the structure. My recommendation was first evicting the wildlife then close up ALL entry points. Then begin the cleaning up process of fecal matter that the pigeons and/or raccoons may have left behind for health concerns. After that’s completed bring in a roofer/contractor to work on the exterior and interior. Mind you all this was explained over a telephone.

Trapper John was really great. He came and shimmied up to the roof and identified the problem. He seemed very knowledgeable and very nice. He definitely showed that he cared about doing a great job and gave me a lot of information. However, in the end his price was a bit too steep for me. If money was not an issue, I would have used him in a pinch. But another company came in with a less expensive quote and I went with them even though their guarantee was not as long. as Trapper John's 2 year guarrantee. I hope I made the right choice.

One of the things he needed to do required his coming back to retrieve the trap---I wish he had let us know he was coming. Even though he didn't have to come inside our home, it was a little disconcerting looking out and seeing a ladder set up and not knowing he was coming. That really was my only complaint. I thought the cost was little high, but then I guess I can't measure the real risks he has to take so maybe the pricing was fair.
Description of Work: He definitely addressed the problem and he was respectful of the need to go on the neighbors property to complete his work.

Trapper John is the best. He was incredibly thorough conscientious, respectful and honest. He actually reduced his fees from his original quote (which I had accepted) because he realized he didn't need to do as much work. He's a real New York personality with lots of great stories, advice and soul. From the moment he came for his first visit, I have not heard a single squirrel chewing away in my ceiling. Great work!

John came to my house to assess the situation (He cancelled the first appointment due to snow). There is an opening all along the top of my windows on the outside and there are several birds' nests all along it. The window sill is littered with bird debris and there is bird waste on the windows. At first he tried to convince me that he couldn't fix it because the building had to close up some vents. I had to point out to him that the windows with the problem didn't have those vents. Well, I basically had to convince him that the work could be done by a contractor and he agreed to do it. We set an appointment. The first one he cancelled due to snow, which was fine. The second appointment he cancelled because he was behind on other work. The third one he cancelled again because of the snow, but this time just an hour before the appointment (it had snowed from the night before.) The for the fourth appointment, he asked that I give him some dates and then he'd contact me 24-48 hours before to tell me he was coming. That was three weeks ago -- I gave him about 8 dates -- but I never heard from him again. I found this to be extremely unprofessional and downright rude. I think he just didn't want to do the job, which he should have just told me rather than making me wait for him and schedule around him for weeks. If you want something to actually get done, hire someone else.
Description of Work: Came out to a**** the situation and then was supposed to remove birds from my window alcoves and then do some structural work so it wouldn't happen again.

Our initial free estimate was set on 01/22/14 and yes I had canceled that appointment due to snow conditions therefore rescheduled that appointment to 01/29/14 Keep in mind that this is a high rise building located in Manhattan which does experiences different weather conditions then other boroughs of NYC, Long Island and upstate counties. Mind you I don’t just work in NYC and indoors but rather all over NY State. On 02/03/14 we agreed to start the work on 02/07/14 and I would arrive between 10-11AM. Now on 02/05/14 I contacted the said potential customer, informing her that I would need to cancel our appointment because the snow had impacted my pre-schedule customers. We agreed to reschedule the work for 02/14/14. On 02/14/14 at exactly 7:58AM (two hours prior our appointment) I contacted the potential customer informing her that I would need to cancel again because of another snow storm. This time not only was I clearly apologetic I let it be known that I am very interested on getting the work done and I further explained to her that this is not how I normally run my business. It’s a freak of nature to get this much snow and get back logged as I had gotten. She wanted to reschedule. This time I had decided to change things up on how I was going to reschedule appointments. I had asked her to give me days for the week of 02/17/14 and week of 02/24/14 and I will contact her 24-48hrs beforehand of the appointment. What happened during those last two week was some light snow but things were icing up. By this time I was jammed up with customers on hold. Now on 03/07/14 I reached out to her and informed her that I am now caught up with all pending jobs and that I would like to go ahead schedule her right in. In fact I offered to accommodate her by offering to schedule an appointment for Saturday. Keep in mind I do not work weekends. In respects on convincing me about the louver vents. At first the potential customer had not informed me of the construction/design layout of the louver vents until I mentioned that I would not be able to properly correct the problem. At that point is when she had provided that missing piece of information. In fact I had thanked her for sharing that with me. Because without communicating that they had two (2) construction/design layouts I would of still thought I could not help her with her current issue on hand.

It worked out well. He did what he said he was going to do. I recommended him to a couple of neighbors. He was able to get it out within four or five days. We went out of town and when we came back they were gone. There were additional charges beyond the big deal amount. It was $800 to get rid of the squirrel. I was very pleased with it. I think the price was very reasonable because he also gave me a guarantee that if anything came back he would get it out within two days. I didn't have any complaints at all. He got back to me on the first day by email and then we talked on the phone.

Recently, my family and I noticed that squirrels were living in the broken soffit of our 94-year-old three-story house in Brooklyn. One neighbor advised me to call an exterminator. As animal advocates and rescuers who do TNR (trap, neuter, return) of feral cats, I could not imagine calling an exterminator, a person who is in the business of killing animals. I wanted to hire someone with compassion and sensitivity, someone who would assure me that a) no harm would come to the animals and that b) no babies or adults would be left behind. I made two appointments for estimates by wildlife trappers on the same day. The first company, which charged $50 for the estimate (which would be waived if we hired them to do the job) sent two (for lack of a better word) thugs, who were clearly inexperienced and unable to answer our questions. The estimate they gave us was $2500 to get the squirrels out and close up the hole(s). That afternoon, Trapper John came to give us a FREE estimate. From the moment my family and I met him, we knew he was the right person for the job. He was articulate, professional, punctual, personable, knowledgeable, and clearly very experienced. I was particularly impressed with his perceptiveness, sensitivity, and extraordinary understanding of the animals. He said it would take two visits, and that after the squirrels were out, he would close up the soffit and any other holes they were getting in through ? all for less than HALF the price the other company was charging. John explained that he would go around the entire house and look for possible entry points, then place a one-way contraption at each one, letting the squirrels exit the house (which they do several times a day), but not re-enter. He was able to address all our questions and concerns without hesitation. We hired him and within a week (and exactly two visits, like he?d said) the squirrels were out and all the holes were closed. As an added bonus, in addition to getting the job done, I learned a lot about squirrels and their behavior. I highly recommend Trapper John to anyone who has uninvited wildlife in their home.

John quickly identified our intruders as squirrels, based on a few recorded sounds. He knew amazing details about the squirrels' behavior and could tell me exactly how they had been behaving and would behave. He is VERY intuitive about animals, and I would completely trust him with any other problems in the future. In addition, John is a total pleasure to do business with. He is a generous and kind and knowledgeable person. We were so glad to meet him and felt lucky he was available to help us out! Would highly recommend him.

John was thoughtful and professional. I liked his approach where he looked for access points for animals to gain entry. I live in a residential neighborhood - in close proximity to a nature park. There are an abundance of squirrels and raccoons in the area - including in and around my back yard. Fortunately for me none were found in the house, nor in the outdoor shed. He identified areas that could become accessible, should an animal be seeking shelter. One of the things he noted was the "plastic attic fan assembly" on the roof. It came with the house and had been installed by one of the two previous owners. John explained how at the very least I could end up with expensive water damage should the cover ever break. In addition, he showed me where animals could gain entry into the house (namely, the attic). He offered solutions to the above listed that are cost-effective and much cheaper than the consequences. This need led me to Angie's List Reviewed Handyman Service, Mr. Handyman of S. Orange - Westfield - Scotch Plains, NJ. They installed a replacement aluminum attic fan. I need to call Trapper John to install the additional solutions, now that the replacement fan has been installed. (Update: I just messaged John via Angie's List to schedule the additional work.)
