I have worked with Tommy before, I called and told him a brief review of what I needed, he made an appointment and showed up the next day.
After doing the door framing hanging etc and admiring his old handiwork as he had installed the tile floor and done some sheetrocking there earlier, he took care of the other wish list items I had mentioned.
Then I mentioned there were a couple of small issues I needed for a next time as we walked around I shoed him a hanging light that had uncoupled a little from a hanging chain, which he fixed on the spot as well as a folding door on my laundry room which he straightened out ran down to the truck got a few screws and a drill and fixed the track a quickie.
When he wrote up the bill I mentioned he had left out a couple of items, I got a
They were small items -- and a shrug.
Then I showed him the closet that I need shelves installed in, and he gave me a price and I will have him back when I am ready to go forward.
THe man has been a life saver. I had some construction done by a company that went out of business, and Tommy has helped out on a number of finishing issues and really been a great find.
No one is perfect, but a nice guy, competent and a true Jack of All Trades who deals with you fairly, is reasonably close. I highly recommend Tommy and personally call him first any time I need work done, just in case he does that too!

Tommy's company installed 8 electrical fixtures in my basement, repaired a leaking toilet, re-ran electrical wiring in my son's room and installed a new light fixture, and repaired a sprinkler line and replaced some broken heads.  These projects commenced and were completed over the year we have been utilizing 1 Stop's services.  One project was started and finished on a Sunday afternoon!

I'll make it short.  I paid him $200 cash & forgot to get a receipt.  When I called him to ask for a receipt, he refused.  WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS GUY?  HE TAKES MONEY & REFUSES TO PROVIDE A RECEIPT!  That rates an "F" for everything!

There's something wrong with workmen who won't do routine things required when you do business.  If they're not honest, nothing else matters.

Re his reply:

I had a problem with a plumber who caused extensive damage and needed a lot of work done to fix it.  Cleaning up.  Fix pipe & ceiling damage.  I needed receipts for all the work to get reimbursed.

This guy repaired the ceiling.  There's nothing bogus about asking for a receipt and it doesn't put him in the middle of anything.

If I wasn't willing to let a plumber cause $3000 in damages through negligence, why should I let someone who repaired the damage refuse to give a receipt for money paid.  BUYERS BEWARE!  This is a guy who takes your money Z& won't give you a piece of paper that says he got the money..

As far as my complaining - I complain when I have a reason to complain.  I don't make things up.

I was not happy with his work.  He was supposed to fix a French door and a kitchen cabinet door where the old brackets were loose.  He took the old brackets with him so he could find a similar one, but he couldn’t find anything and never brought them back.  When he was working on the door he broke the glass in it so it closed well but the glass had to be replaced.  I got the glass replaced and told him the price, but he never got back to me.  Before he left the first time, he wanted $50 for the extra work he had to do.  He wanted me to pay him more because he broke my glass.  I shouldn’t have to track him down but he still owes me money.
Response from 1 Stop Home Improvements
"I worked on 40 yr old neglected French Exterior Doors that nobody could have fixed and got them working perfect ( wood was dry rotted I stained them and shaved them to close properly and had to do modifications ) , at the last moment yes I had an accident and dropped a tool on the glass , what was supposed to be a simple job for $225 plus the agreed additional $50 for my hard time I spent the whole day on . We left off that I wasnt going to get paid and did not ask to get paid upon completion till he got an estimate from a glazier to repair the glass coincidentally Member told me that it was a a washout and that's what the glazier charged him .. Which I was fine with as long as my customer was happy .... As far as the kitchen cabinet I had exhausted all outlets for me to locate the right hinge for the lazy suzan ... I took the broken one of two hinges to continue my search and left the good one in the cabinet ... After losing my time on this project and doing the right thing buy this customer he still has the nerve to come on Angies List and give me a poor rating ... I do my best and work hard to maintain an A rating ... And Member if you want your broken hinge back call me and I will mail it to you ..."

We had initially contacted Tommie in the fall of 2010 about replacing the storm door.  Since we were also planning to evenutally replace the entry door as well, he recommended that we wait and do both at the same time and gave us a fair bundled price.  We eventually got around to doing the work in the summer of 2011 and Tommie honored his price from six months earlier.

It took about three weeks to get into Tommie's schedule but he showed up when he said he would.  He encountered a few challenges with the entry door on our 1953 cape cod because the rough opening wasn't consistent with current standards and the jamb depth was deeper than expected.  Dealing with this added about an hour to the job.  When he finished, he was very concientious about the cleanup and hauled all the excess materials around our house for the trash pickup.

Since the entry door took most of a day, Tommie came out a second time to install the storm door.  It was an extremely hot day and the entry was in the sun so the working conditions were far from ideal.  After he left, we noted that the alignment of the door was off a bit and that it wouldn't seal properly.  We contacted Tommie and he returned promptly to fix the issue at no charge and with no push-back -- and once he saw the problem he realized what had happened.

We found Tommie to be knowledgeable, personable, and ready to stand by his work.  His pricing is a bit on the high side for handyman jobs but he still provides decent value.  We would definitely consider using him again should the need arise.

Tommy is a very friendly, honest guy.  Reliable and good to deal with.  Easy to work with and you get the feeling he actually cares and is flexible to adjust along the way (i.e. hey could you also patch this up - no problem).  He showed up when he said he would, completed the job over a couple afternoons and cleaned up well.  We were satisfied with his workmanship and are talking to him about some other jobs.  Definately recommend him.

One Stop was originally hired to provide an estimate to reinstall  an existing set of bi-fold closet doors that had fallen off the track.  Over the past six months, numerous contractors/handymen had looked at this project. I was told the doors could not be reused because the track was broken, the doors were damaged or they were too heavy to use.  Then I found Tom.  He didn't make me wait days for an appointment, and he arrived on time.  Some people would probably consider his fee of $100 for 2-1/2 hours of work high, but to me this was worth it.  In the end he saved me over $1,000 (the cost to replace the doors and  and tracking system).  Tom was able to problem solve and had a stick-to-it approach to this project.  He said the doors were ok and the track was not broken and was able to salvage the doors and reinstall them.

I would definitely reuse One Stop.

I wasn't really satisfied with him. He charged me $150.00 to take down the gazebo and took one hour to take it down. To me that was a little steep for just an hour's worth of work. He charged me $150.00 for the caulking, plaster work, and the wood tile and I think he was fair on his price. He gave me exactly the quality I wanted for the sheetrock to be caulked and filled. He could have done a little more and a little better on the wood floor tiles. I thought he did a pretty good job on the caulking in the bathroom, but my wife's opinion is a little different from mine. I used to do the power washing myself, but I ripped my right rotator cuff twice so I can't take the pressure of the power washer. His price was good. His quality wasn't so good on the power washing. I showed him some areas and he told me some areas he couldn't get the dirt off. I had a product I picked up years ago from a janitorial supply place. It is organic and it doesn't hurt any plants or anything. It takes off any dirt. You could use it for your machine, but unfortunately a lot of people do not like using this for their machines. You could put just a little in the bucket and it works so well you don't really have to scrub. I told him about it, but he wouldn't take my advice and he didn't do it. I wound up getting those things off with this chemical that you barely have to scrub. He was fair on the price for some things and he was over on the price for others. I would consider him intermediate on just about everything. If I had the same work next time I would try somebody else. The plaster work was not a great job. I have been in this house for 35 years and that area has been fixed up many times. I am not looking for an excellent job because it's a laundry room and a garage. The walls are sheetrock and the ceiling is sheetrock. The floors are wood floors. The work doesn't have to be perfect for a garage floor. Some of his prices were good and some of them weren't good. His responsiveness was pretty good. I would not use him again in the future. I would try somebody else.
Response from 1 Stop Home Improvements
"This customer had multiple requests I handled them all just as he requested . I charged him $75 for caulking his shower stall charged him $75 for sheetrock repair and threw in the floor repair at no charge , $400 for powerwashing the entire house, deck and pvc fence on both sides. I had told him that does not include scrubbing or any chemical use he agreed , and the area the customer was talking about was a tar stain that I couldnt get off .. And by the way the powerwash was a steal at that price and very tedious work. The customer came out and did a white glove test on his pvc fence . He paid me he was satisfied and I took care of everything he requested .. As far as the Gazebo when I quoted the estimate for $150 I did not know how that would go , it turned out I was able to knock it out fast but that could have gone both ways and I made it up to him with a few no charge repairs . A week later I gave the member a follow up phone call and everything was good he was happy and just pointed out to me that the chemical removed the stain .. I assumed he was happy and asked him to post a rating fro me on Angies list to help my ratings 3 weeks later I see a post that I would not expect . ."

I was not fond of them. They were late. The gave me only a couple hours of work a day to get the job done. People and myself noticed a lot of unfinished work. I was not satisfied. I would not recommend them. He used my kitchen as a stepping stone; trial by error.
Response from 1 Stop Home Improvements
"This customer had called me in the fall of 2010 to finish the kitchen that they had started with another contractor in February of 2010 . I went in hesitantly but agreed to take the job , aside from the fact of ridiculous requests of chopping up brand new kitchen cabinets everything seemed normal . In two weeks I had them a fully functional kitchen and customer seemed very happy ... I had kitchen ready for customer to host they're Christmas party and they were very happy !!!! We let the holidays go by and were waiting two weeks for backsplash tiles to be delivered , I left had gotten paid with customers approval and we had agreed that finish work would be done upon completion of backsplash ... This project was extremely difficult being the hardwood floor had sagged almost 2 inches in spots and leveling cabinets was extremely difficult but all was done and customer was happy ... Called customer back for follow up regarding tiles never heard back from them and then read this report in complete disbelief ... I should've trusted my instincts in wondering they why they had problems with previous contractor ."

Tommie was responsive and kept his promises. He communicated by phone and email and was on-time for our estimate appointment. His pricing was fair and reasonable and he started and finished the job on time (about 1 afternoon). He cleaned up his work area and made sure we approved of what was done.

Tommy was on time, and worked hard every second he was on site. Personable nice guy Showed up on time, and kept me in the loop while he was working, made no decisions without making sure we were on the same page. A good man, who does a good job. When I called 1-Stop, Tommy returned my call within a day. He was friendly and professional, asking details about the projects I wanted done. We set a time and date. When I had to cancel the appointment to go out of town for a funeral, I was impressed that Tommy called simply to "check in" and let me know that whenever we were ready to proceed, so was he. When I called back, he (again) returned my call within a day, and we set another date. The A/C unit is installed and we are thrilled. He even went out of his way to insulate around the unit. I love that he took leftover vinyl siding sitting in our backyard to finish the look, making it blend it with the rest of the house. Initially, this was to be one project of three. However, I didn't get the other appliance I wanted him to install, and since he's coming back to do that, he said he'd wait and do the third project then (repairing broken tracks for 2 drawers in my kitchen). I was disaapointed that he didn't go to the store, purchase the material, and come back and fix them when he was here before. However, he told me what to buy, and it makes sense that I don't pay him to stand in line at Home Depot on a Saturday. ==========updated 11/22/2010======== Tommy came back this weekend to fix the microwave and the drawers. Unfortunately, he didn't remember all the details so he wasn't prepared to install the microwave. He did fix the drawers and is coming back on Thanksgiving morning to finally install the microwave (a very generous offer from him, we thought).

Tom was very professional. He attached the garage door opener to the ceiling securely. The work was completed quickly and the door is working properly. Tom also fixed a timer for the outside stoop light. He quoted me $75.00 for the job for a mechanical timer. At Home Depot only digital timer was available( more expensive). I was not charged extra. I am going to hire hime again

He was fantastic. He did a really thorough job. I thought the price he charged me was a bargain. He was very courteous and very professional. He came a little later than I expected because he had a client who had an emergency. I like the fact that he takes emergencies although I wish he had started earlier in the day. We are going to have him come back. We are just waiting on more blinds to be delivered and once they come in we will have him install them. He called and informed us that he would be late. I would use him again in the future considering the fact that we are having him come back to do more work.

What a pleasure. He returned my call promptly, and the stuff was hung the next day, no nonsense, no excuses, no BS. I have two shelving units waiting to go up, and intend to use him again. The difference between this place and other "handymen" I've used is like night and day. Highly recommended.
