After doing the door framing hanging etc and admiring his old handiwork as he had installed the tile floor and done some sheetrocking there earlier, he took care of the other wish list items I had mentioned.
Then I mentioned there were a couple of small issues I needed for a next time as we walked around I shoed him a hanging light that had uncoupled a little from a hanging chain, which he fixed on the spot as well as a folding door on my laundry room which he straightened out ran down to the truck got a few screws and a drill and fixed the track a quickie.
When he wrote up the bill I mentioned he had left out a couple of items, I got a
They were small items -- and a shrug.
Then I showed him the closet that I need shelves installed in, and he gave me a price and I will have him back when I am ready to go forward.
THe man has been a life saver. I had some construction done by a company that went out of business, and Tommy has helped out on a number of finishing issues and really been a great find.
No one is perfect, but a nice guy, competent and a true Jack of All Trades who deals with you fairly, is reasonably close. I highly recommend Tommy and personally call him first any time I need work done, just in case he does that too!
There's something wrong with workmen who won't do routine things required when you do business. If they're not honest, nothing else matters.
Re his reply:
I had a problem with a plumber who caused extensive damage and needed a lot of work done to fix it. Cleaning up. Fix pipe & ceiling damage. I needed receipts for all the work to get reimbursed.
This guy repaired the ceiling. There's nothing bogus about asking for a receipt and it doesn't put him in the middle of anything.
If I wasn't willing to let a plumber cause $3000 in damages through negligence, why should I let someone who repaired the damage refuse to give a receipt for money paid. BUYERS BEWARE! This is a guy who takes your money Z& won't give you a piece of paper that says he got the money..
As far as my complaining - I complain when I have a reason to complain. I don't make things up.
"This customer was asking me for a bogus receipt to collect on his dispute with the plumber and I refused to get in the middle of it ... Angie please remove him from your membership he bashes everyone he does business with !!!!!!!"
"I worked on 40 yr old neglected French Exterior Doors that nobody could have fixed and got them working perfect ( wood was dry rotted I stained them and shaved them to close properly and had to do modifications ) , at the last moment yes I had an accident and dropped a tool on the glass , what was supposed to be a simple job for $225 plus the agreed additional $50 for my hard time I spent the whole day on . We left off that I wasnt going to get paid and did not ask to get paid upon completion till he got an estimate from a glazier to repair the glass coincidentally Member told me that it was a a washout and that's what the glazier charged him .. Which I was fine with as long as my customer was happy .... As far as the kitchen cabinet I had exhausted all outlets for me to locate the right hinge for the lazy suzan ... I took the broken one of two hinges to continue my search and left the good one in the cabinet ... After losing my time on this project and doing the right thing buy this customer he still has the nerve to come on Angies List and give me a poor rating ... I do my best and work hard to maintain an A rating ... And Member if you want your broken hinge back call me and I will mail it to you ..."
It took about three weeks to get into Tommie's schedule but he showed up when he said he would. He encountered a few challenges with the entry door on our 1953 cape cod because the rough opening wasn't consistent with current standards and the jamb depth was deeper than expected. Dealing with this added about an hour to the job. When he finished, he was very concientious about the cleanup and hauled all the excess materials around our house for the trash pickup.
Since the entry door took most of a day, Tommie came out a second time to install the storm door. It was an extremely hot day and the entry was in the sun so the working conditions were far from ideal. After he left, we noted that the alignment of the door was off a bit and that it wouldn't seal properly. We contacted Tommie and he returned promptly to fix the issue at no charge and with no push-back -- and once he saw the problem he realized what had happened.
We found Tommie to be knowledgeable, personable, and ready to stand by his work. His pricing is a bit on the high side for handyman jobs but he still provides decent value. We would definitely consider using him again should the need arise.
I would definitely reuse One Stop.
"This customer had multiple requests I handled them all just as he requested . I charged him $75 for caulking his shower stall charged him $75 for sheetrock repair and threw in the floor repair at no charge , $400 for powerwashing the entire house, deck and pvc fence on both sides. I had told him that does not include scrubbing or any chemical use he agreed , and the area the customer was talking about was a tar stain that I couldnt get off .. And by the way the powerwash was a steal at that price and very tedious work. The customer came out and did a white glove test on his pvc fence . He paid me he was satisfied and I took care of everything he requested .. As far as the Gazebo when I quoted the estimate for $150 I did not know how that would go , it turned out I was able to knock it out fast but that could have gone both ways and I made it up to him with a few no charge repairs . A week later I gave the member a follow up phone call and everything was good he was happy and just pointed out to me that the chemical removed the stain .. I assumed he was happy and asked him to post a rating fro me on Angies list to help my ratings 3 weeks later I see a post that I would not expect . ."
"This customer had called me in the fall of 2010 to finish the kitchen that they had started with another contractor in February of 2010 . I went in hesitantly but agreed to take the job , aside from the fact of ridiculous requests of chopping up brand new kitchen cabinets everything seemed normal . In two weeks I had them a fully functional kitchen and customer seemed very happy ... I had kitchen ready for customer to host they're Christmas party and they were very happy !!!! We let the holidays go by and were waiting two weeks for backsplash tiles to be delivered , I left had gotten paid with customers approval and we had agreed that finish work would be done upon completion of backsplash ... This project was extremely difficult being the hardwood floor had sagged almost 2 inches in spots and leveling cabinets was extremely difficult but all was done and customer was happy ... Called customer back for follow up regarding tiles never heard back from them and then read this report in complete disbelief ... I should've trusted my instincts in wondering they why they had problems with previous contractor ."
