I did not receive the check that had been promised. I subsequently spoke with Chris Krull on three occasions. Each time he claimed that there had been paperwork problems and promised that he would send the check. No check was ever sent. We are talking about several hundred dollars, but I must say that being lied to is far more painful than the loss of that money. My business will go elsewhere and I would advise the readers of this review to do the same.
Description of Work: We needed an effective water hammer arrestor installed. The Krull plumber installed one, which did not work (10/21/16). They ordered a larger one and installed it (11/15/16). It did not work either. They removed the second arrestor and told me my money would be refunded.

Response from Charles Krull & Son Inc Plumbing & Heating
Dear Mr. [Member Name Removed]. This is Elizabeth from Charles Krull & Son, Inc. I am responsible for the accounting in the office and investigated the scenario that you are referencing. The owner of the company communicated to you that he would refund the total cost of the installation of the hammer arrestors which is our standard process. We always guarantee our work and ensure that our clients are 100% satisfied. We truly do stand behind our work. I genuinely apologize that there was a delay in providing you with your refund. There was a breakdown in office communication and I am accountable for the error. At this point in time we have hand-delivered to you a refund for the installation. We are disappointed that you had this experience with our company. We appreciate your feedback as it has allowed us to reflect on the situation and put better quality control processes in place. Sincerely, Elizabeth

Unfortunately, Charles Krull & Son does not perform these services. However, they were prompt in returning my call and very informative. They called me back and asked some questions before sending someone to the house. When they realized they don't offer that service, they referred me to a few competitors and offered some helpful advice. While I did not end up using there services, they company made a great impression and I will keep that in mind in the future.

I truly cannot say enough good things about the service I received from Chris & Larry. They came over to check out a leaking pipe, and I asked several questions while they were here to determine the cost of several little projects I had. They were able to do the work on the leaking pipe immediately since they travel with the materials they'd need for any job. As a new homeowner unfamiliar with the area, I was so nervous I would be taken advantage of. Their prices were competitive and the level of service we received was top notch. Chris was very honest with timeliness of when projects should be done and very helpful with suggestions. They answered the phone on the first attempt and arrived when they said they would, even calling to let me know they were on their way. Complete gentlemen and a pleasure to work with. I will certainly use them again!

Chris was very professional, arrived on time and took the time to explain all details while doing the inspection. Signed up for service contract. Requested a service call 2 months later - Vladimar arrived on time and proceeded to make the necessary repairs - very personable and explained every step of the way. Very pleased with the service. Subsequently recommended him to a friend who was also pleased with his work.

Short list: Initial phone call answered very promptly and professionally; not an answering service Service call process/schedule was explained fully Good service schedule Accommodating/understanding of my busy schedule and time Confirmation calls made to us the day before, and day of, service Technician arrived on time and was clean and neat Technician was respectful of property and placed protective covers over his shoes and a clean tarp over the work area Technician made written estimate as promised Technician properly evaluated challenging work site situation and worked within the site well Technician asked to ensure desired placement of faucet before securing Work was completed as agreed upon, and in a timely manner No trace of work was left; technician asked if he could dispose of old equipment and trash from new equipment Credit cards were accepted for payment Price was on the higher end, but the service bore it out Entire transaction/service experience went exactly as promised and was very good All in all, excellent experience from a very professionally-run operation top to bottom Background: the situation with our broken sink faucet had been appraised by another plumber just weeks before, when we sensed that the 11-year old pullout was degrading and needed replacement. We had never been too happy with it over its lifespan, but now It was dripping continuously after shutoff, and was also not fully converting from spray to stream when the button was pressed, causing the spray part to drip rapidly while set to stream, and with a weakened stream. So we had purchased a new faucet in anticipation of the plumber changing it out. However, after that plumber examined the faucet and considered the installation of it (which we already knew would be challenging because it was in a tight corner and served a deep farm sink with garbage disposer and a water cooler (which we demonstrated could be readily moved) that plumber discouraged us from installing a new faucet, citing the price to install would probably exceed the price of the faucet. He instead encouraged a more modest fix and for us to return the faucet we had purchased. which we did. He told us that it was normal for the pullout faucets to drip after shutoff (even though we had had it for 11 years and never had the issue during that time and explained this). He didn't even want to give an estimate to replace it. Unfortunately, it quickly became evident that his "fix" wasn't working, and the problem turned out to be varying pressure coming from the pullout's weakened flex-hose tubing - which we felt he should have caught, based on the issue. Within 5 weeks of that visit, the tubing had separated at the faucet head and was leaking everywhere. So we went back and bought the faucet again, and this time we called Krull. From the moment we called, everything went extremely smoothly. Having dealt with several plumbers, even Angie's List-referred plumbers, it was refreshing to deal with such a professional company. I explained our issue to Chris, who answered the call; he was very accommodating of my tight schedule and also very explicity spelled out the detail of the service. (If you've used many plumbers, you know they run the gamut from helpful to not-at-all helpful, somewhat accommodating of your time to take-it-or-leave-it, somewhat firm estimates to highly flexible estimates, and from pricey to super-pricey) [in our experience a good, low-priced plumber is an oxymoron]). It's rare when you get one with all of the good qualities you want. Chris explained clearly that there was a fixed service fee for the visit, and then an estimate would be given to us before the work began. If we agreed upon the estimate price, that would be the price we paid, and if the plumber ran over the time estimated, the estimate would still hold. We liked this. He gave us a two-hour time window for arrival, but I asked if we could be on the later end of that window due to a busy scheduled day. He said, "no problem, we will put you in at the back end of that window and the technician will call you 30-60 minutes in advance his visit - will that be ok?" I was very pleasantly stunned by how accommodating this was. We agreed to a time, which was about three days out. (He had much sooner appointments, they just didn't work with my schedule.) The day before the service, I received a follow-up call from Chris reminding me of the scheduled time and confirming that it would still work. I found this to be very reassuring (as my experience has been that contractors may show and they may not, and it would not have made me happy to have taken half a day from work for someone not to show up). The day of the service, the technician called as promised to ask if the timing would be good for him to arrive within the latter half of the time window. Perfect. He verified the address. He arrived as he promised. As he entered the house and introduced himself, he slipped disposable covers over his shoes so the carpet/floors would not be soiled by anything he had on his shoes. He examined the faucet and I explained that we were ready to get rid of the old faucet due to the leak and our general unhappiness with it. He evaluated the situation, gave me the estimate and asked me to sign if I was in agreement, exactly as promised. He offered us a maintenance contract for plumbing and heating services, which, because we happened to be in a sweet spot for the aging of most of our plumbing, we decided to go with (though it would be honest to say we would not ordinarily go for such a thing, in this case, it was a good deal). The contract would save us 15% on the work that was performed today, savings on any fixtures purchased through them, and 15% savings on any future work performed under the contract. We agreed to the estimate and he evaluated what he would need. He brought in a clean, heavy drop cloth to cover the floor and cabinetry while he worked, also very helpful/professional. Within about an hour, he had removed the old faucet and installed the new one without having to take anything else apart to do so, which was a relief, since having to take existing work apart can lead to other issues. He cleaned up everything when finished and then evaluated the bathroom faucet handle, which he found to be of a unibody construction that didn't allow it to be tightened, but he advised us that the specific manufacturer had a lifetime warranty and that if the part wore out, to call the manufacturer for a free replacement, which they could then install. I verified this with the manufacturer's site. I very much appreciated that he did not jump to make a sale but rather told us truthfully how we could obtain a replacement when necessary. The entire transaction went exactly as promised, on schedule, on point, and the technician was polite and performed the job well. I give them a B for price only because they are not the lowest price you'll find but, in this case, you get what you pay for - I was very happy with everything about the job, from the service call to the outcome, and everything was exactly as promised/represented. - Marc Head & Jess Bunshaft, members

His two technicians, Vladamir and Larry, called when they were enroute, and arrived early, as promised. After making a hole in the ceiling, they determined that there was, in fact, no water leaking, but the ceiling was falling from an earlier leak we had several years ago. They ran the pipes from the upstairs, to confirm there was no leaks, and then covered the area with plastic, so nothing would fall from the hole (we had Holiday guests expected later), and then swept up all of the debris ( Wife is extremely pleased). They offered me their Diamond Club plan, at $15/month, for future problems, which I purchased ( saved me $70 off this repair). They also looked at my kitchen sink, which had been making a knocking noise when we ran the hot water, and pointed out that the valve was not fully open ( I know, opening a valve sounds simple, but that noise had been driving us crazy for weeks!) All in all, although they didn't need to do any repairs, I found them to be prompt, courteous, dependable, and priced reasonably ( service call was only $49), and I highly recommend them!
Description of Work: I found this company thru Angie's List, and called because it appeared that we had a leak in the dining room ceiling, and the sheetrock ceiling was about to fall. I spoke with Chris, the owner, who promised to send 2 technicians the following morning (Christmas Eve), as it was too late to get anyone there immediately. Since there was no water coming through yet, I agreed to wait, and Chris advised that if we saw water, to make a small hole, and drain the water into a bucket. Thank goodness, we never saw any water...

Everyone I dealt with was courteous and friendly. The technician showed up a few minutes late. But Elizabeth from the company's office had called to tell me he'd be about a half hour late because he was finishing up a previous job - a touch I really appreciated. The technician that arrived was named Chris. He is the fifth generation Krull in his family's business. He discovered a problem with a filling valve, and we made an appointment and subsequently had that fixed. Chris also offered us a maintenance plan for our plumbing and heating systems. The plan comes in several different levels. Since our furnace is getting up in years, we opted to join. We will use this company in the future.

Absolutely the best experience I've had with plumber's visiting my home. Not only were they punctual but were very communicative, touching base along the way, so that I knew exactly when they would be there. Once here, it was clear the men knew what they were talking about and doing. I asked a lot of questions (some of which I already knew the answer to) and they answered them all thoughtfully and thoroughly. They weren't all things I wanted to hear but they were real and helpful. The company's been around for more than a century and is still in the hands of the family. The pride and experience show.

I liked the idea of them putting on foot protectors on their boots as not to track dirt into the house, very professional. I felt very at ease with how they explained the process of flushing out the water heater. Vladimir, a Krull crew member was also there and did a great job hooking up the pump to quickly remove the water into my slop sink. That made the job very accommodating for them to say the least, and me as a home owner. What I liked about them was their personalities. easy to talk to, had a few laughs along the way to past the time. I look forward to having them return to do my gas furnace once over inspection and any adjustments that are needed for the coming winter months.

Chris came by to flush my water heater as well as perform a inspection on my plumbing (toilets, faucets, sinks). Being a new home owner, he walked me through the benefits on some of the items I have (water heater, tank, backflow values, etc..) as well as alert me to some of the older units and their problems. He found a crack in my laundry basin that I never would have otherwise have noticed because of the location. He also gave me pointers on some of the problems I had last winter with frozen pipes. All in, extremely happy I chose his company and expecting to call on him again to do our plumbing and heating work we have planned for the house.

A true professional can be identified by several traits. They will have a great depth of knowledge in their business; they will approach a problem methodically and logically and work it until it is resolved, and they will respect their customer's time as well as their wallet. Chris Krull and his team exhibit all these traits and more. The water pressure in my house had never been great, but it was tolerable. Whenever I asked various plumbers or water company representatives how I could improve it, I would get either half-hearted suggestions with no interest in actually taking on the job, or would be told that the entire service had to be dug up at considerable expense. This year the water pressure got so bad that I could not ignore it anymore and knew I had to find someone to help. After reading the reviews on Angie's list, I called Chris and am so glad I did. At each step of the way, Chris and his team studied the problem and always recommended the most likely (and least expensive) approach to explore first. When replacing a very old gate valve on the copper service line proved to not be the answer, Chris and his team excavated the service at the property line to check that the service line was copper all the way. They found copper that appeared to be connected to a galvanized supply line from the water company. Chris worked with the water company to get them to my home in 2 business days to replace the line. When the water company crew arrived and excavated, they found that in fact their service was also copper. For reasons lost to the depths of time, whoever replaced the original service to the house had not removed the last two feet of galvanized pipe. When it became clear that the galvanized pipe was in fact my responsibility, I called Chris right away. He arrived within 10 minutes, saw the situation, apologized for not discovering it earlier, and then jumped right into the hole and swapped out the galvanized section with copper at no additional expense. Once we turned everything back on, the difference was amazing. No matter how many valves I opened, I could not kill the water pressure. So, if you need plumbing work done, and you want it done by someone who considers it a matter of honor to excel at his profession and to be honest with his customers, call Chris Krull. You won't regret it.
