I thought he was very professional. I would have gone with him because his proposal was detailed. He followed up on everything and pleasant to work with. He was much more thorough than the others. He had a competitive price.

SUBMITTED AN ESTIMATE OVER A YEAR AGO, APRIL 07, TO REPAIR/REPLACE ROTTEN MOLDING AROUND COUPLE OF WINDOWS. WE COULD NEVER ARRIVE AT A START DATE AND IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, SHE DECIDED TO PUT OFF THE PROJECT BECAUSE ANOTHER PROJECT CAME UP. TO MY SURPRISE, SHE EMAILED US RECENTLY: STATING THAT SHE WAS READY TO START. I AM NOT SURE EXACTLY WHAT HAPPEN AFTER THAT BUT WE WERE NEVER ABLE TO CONNECT. I WAS UNDER IMPRESSION THAT SHE HAD MOVED ON. I AM NOT SURE IT IS FAIR TO POST SOMETHING NEGATIVE, WHEN YOU ARE ASKING US TO FOLLOW-UP OVER A YEAR LATER.

I was very satisfied with their work. They were one of the few contractors I've encountered that took detailed notes, including digital photos, BEFORE they created their estimate. They did not have the lowest quote, but seemed most professional and trustworthy of all the painters. When there were questions, on either side, they were very good at contacting us. We never were left in doubt about what work was being done, when. They showed up when they said they would, and left a clean worksite each day. There were a few unclear items in the contract, and they showed great flexibility in arriving at a solution that made everyone happy. The work was done on time, and my wife and I both were very satisfied with the results.
Description of Work: Provided estimate to prep and paint 3/4 of the interior of a 2000 sq foot home. After being selected, they did the work (prepped and painted walls, ceilings, trim, radiators, etc., covered and moved furniture, removed old fixtures, more).

Great. They came when they said they would. They were courteous and professional. The blinds were put up flawlessly. They explained how they would need to do the job, so that the blinds would look their best. They also took photographs and measurements for other household jobs that I requested an estimate on, and then submitted a written estimate to me for approval. I will use them again.

From my initial call and contact to Gerald Nesbitt's assessment of the problem/project, to his follow-up with an estimate, the process moved graciously, quickly, clearly and extremely helpfully.
Description of Work: Queen City provided the most thorough appraisal and estimate process I have ever seen. The needs that were exposed through the process were actually the reason for my non-continuing. They identified a much more serious problem, with need for longer-term planning and remediation. I certainly would call Queen City when the decisions have been made and the construction plans are clear.

When I initially called, Gerald was unable to take my information because he was in transit. However, he told me to call and leave a message. I did not hear from him for about a week when he called to schedule an appointment. Upon arrival, I showed him the vanity set and shower door that I wished to install. He looked at the current vanity set and explained that installation would be very difficult and costly because the floor is not level and because of the style of the set that I had purchased with drawers. He explained that the current vanity set, is off-level hence the reason for the excessive amounts of caulking on top of the sink and the main reason I wanted to get rid of it. As for the shower door, because my vanity was right next to my tub, it would leave me limited space to get in and out of the tub with the shower door as well as the fact the top of my tub was round and not flat. Although after the first ten minutes we knew the job would not be completed, he spent close to an hour explaining to me my other options and the type of vanity I would need so that I would not need to move the pipes from their current position. In the end, I returned the vanity set. I had to keep the shower door since I bought it as a final sale. However, had I gotten someone else I would probably not have been happy with the job though it would probably be no fault of their own but the mitigating factors. His job was very professional and thorough.
Description of Work: Needed an estimate on the replacement of vanity and sink set and installation of shower door.

We are extremely pleased with everything that was done! From our first phone conversation and subsequent meeting to the end of the work, Gerald was knowledgeable, considerate, prompt, kept in touch, efficient and thorough. His crew was experienced, neat and got the job done! We would not hesitate to recommend Queen City Construction and plan to use them again in the near future. We've also recommended Gerald and Queen City to family and friends. You will be in good hands!
Description of Work: Gerald and crew painted our garage, repaired some tricky (and ancient) back steps, did interior painting: wall, ceiling, dinette, bedroom - along with some handyman projects in our kitchen, living room and back porch.

Excellent. Gerald was very clear with communication, first on the telephone, followed by email and in-person. He was right on time. We were installing a new stove and found the old one did not have a shut-off valve. Gerald reviewed our situation (80 year old house), and provided detailed information on what could be done. We had discussed it over the telephone and via email before his visit to the house so he was able to arrive with the necessary parts on his truck, saving time and extra trips to the hardware store. They cleaned up after themselves and offered advice on some other problems that we had not previously discussed. I would hire him again.

From start to finish, Gerald Nesbeth and his workers were always pleasant and competent. When Gerald came to give us an estimate, he pointed out the problems and what could and could not be done. Our house is old and unfortunately we had let exterior repainting go longer than we should have. In many areas the exterior paint on the shingles was in very poor condition. Once they started the work, they continued until the work was completed (weather permitting). Every evening they left the premises clean and all things put out of the way. We were extremely satisfied with the work and the relationship we had with the company.

They're incredibly nice guys, prompt, clean and right on the money from a budget perspective. He was very honest about different approaches we could take for certain problems, offering different budget options. I've brought them back for more work and have another 2 or three project for them down the road. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: Gerald and his great crew took care of numerous small project around my house including: replacing 20 sets of doorknobs, rerouting a dryer duct, repainting kitchen cabinets, painting 2 bedrooms and a bathroom, misc. electrical work and probably other stuff I'm forgetting. They also fixed a few small things they saw around the house for no charge (gate on our fence, etc.)

I called Gerald in a panic because I was unable to contact the original person we had hired to do the work. Gerald came promptly and gave me a great deal of time going over what needed to be done. When I mentioned that we were also calling a junk hauler he offered to do that as well for only $100 more (the minimum for the junk hauler was $250). He was very accommodating and, although, he was very busy and this was such a small job, he was willing to do it in our time frame (less than 1 week). The ONLY reason we did not go with Gerald was that our original guy finally got in touch with us. It turns out he had our phone number wrong and actually had to track us down via another vendor. Because the other guy already bought the materials to do the construction we needed, we decided to stick with him. However, in the future, Gerald is our guy.
Description of Work: We needed demolition of closets in the basement. It was a bit tricky because of existing vents, plumbing, electrical and a bathroom that were not to be included in the demolition. ($1,150)

Incredibly professional during estimate process. Very competitive price. Seemed to be competent, easy to deal with, and professional. Worked smoothly through early stages of work, including sending pictures of progressing work. Upon inspection about 2 weeks into project, discovered work was shabby and not up to language in contract. Walls were not washed or sanded. Curtain hardware and random nails were not removed from walls, and screw holes had not been filled with putty and sanded prior to painting. Two electrical outlets and the fuse box were painted over/shut. Demand for extra payment for time over run because "the electricity in your apartment sucks." Floor staining was uneven. Walls were not retouched after floor staining (6" high ring around wall of each room with mixed old paint, new paint, and black stain). Very unsatisfied. Moreover, keys were never returned!
Description of Work: In four rooms of newly purchased apartment: remove floor trim (with patching as necessary), paint, and refinish parquet floor with dark ebony stain.

THEY WANTED TO REFINISH THE FLOORS, REMOVE FLOOR MOLDING AND A NO FRILL PAINT JOB: CHANGING ROOM COLORS. MAJOR CONCERN WAS TO HAVE JOB COMPLETED BY END OF THE MONTH SO THEY COULD MOVE IN. THEY ASKED US TO MATCH AN ESTIMATE FROM A COMPANY THAT WE COULDN’T VERIFY AS BEING LEGIT: THE PHONE WAS DISCONNECTED; AND COMPANY NAME AND LICENSE NUMBERS WERE NOT REGISTERED WITH NYC CONSUMER PROTECTION. IN OUR OPINION, THEY MADE UP THE COMPANY TO GET US TO GO LOWER. AFTER COMPLETING PAINTING, THE OWNER PULLED ALL SCREWS AND ELECTRICAL WALL PLATES, AND REMOVED CABLE LINES, ADDING AN EXTRA DAY’S WORK. RECEIVED EMAIL REMINDING US OF THE DEADLINE, BUT NO MENTION OF THE EXTRA WORK. *IT IS STANDARD PRACTICE, THAT FIXTURES/ARTWORK IS REMOVED TO PAINT, BUT LEAVE SCREWS IN ORDER TO ATTACH LATER. WE STARTED DOCUMENTING ISSUES AND OVERAGES, AND DID THE EXTRA WORK TO CORRECT THEM. WE REPAIRED WALLS THAT WERE DAMAGED IN REMOVING THE FLOOR MOLDING WHICH WASN’T INCLUDED IN OUR ESTIMATE. BECAUSE FUSE KEPT TRIPPING, WE USED ONE SANDER AT A TIME WHEN REFINISHING THE FLOORS, AND IN SOME ROOMS, WE HAD TO TURN LIGHTS OFF TO SAND THE FLOORS. THE PAYMENTS NEVER ARRIVED ON TIME. A DELIVERY SERVICE WITH A TRACKING NUMBER WAS USED, BUT THEY WOULD DELAY IN SENDING US THE CHECKS. THEY AGREED TO PAY US FOR THE OVERAGE AFTER THEY MOVED IN. WE’VE FINISHED, AND THEY HAVE YET TO CONTACT US. THIS POSTING IS THE FIRST TIME THAT WE ARE AWARE OF ANY COMPLAINTS.

I was very impressed with Gerald Nesbeth. He was unfailingly polite, meticulous in his work, and a good partner in the renovation my galley kitchen. We were able to bounce ideas off each other, which helped in nailing down exactly how I wanted the kitchen to look. The work was done on time (the crew showed up just about every day) and more or less on budget (there were some unexpected problems with the kitchen ceiling). While I did have moments of angst (and who doesn t while dealing with such projects), all in all, it went fairly smoothly, relatively quickly, and I now have a beautiful kitchen.
Description of Work: Complete gut and remodel of the kitchen (ceramic flooring and backsplash, new cabinets, new appliances, bringing electrical up to code, pretty much everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink!), which included moving a wall to widen the kitchen; new sheetrock installed on living room ceiling plus installation of ceiling fan.

These guys were extremely professional, fast and neat. It turns out that the previous homeowners had done their own remodeling and the studs and plumbing was up to code: Hot and Cold pipes were touching each other, studs were not plumb nor 16 inches on center. They re framed the entire bathroom upgrading the plumbing and electrical. We were happy with the outcome and would strongly recommend them.
Description of Work: Use Queen City to renovate to renovate a bathroom. The bathroom was gutted and installed new: drywall, toilet, bathtub, plumbing, electrical, floor and wall tiles, fixtures and pedestal sink. Their estimate was fair and out of all of the guys that came by, they were the most professional. They took numerous measurements and pictures and gave us various options.

We were new to the area and found them extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Other contractors acted as though we were working for them instead of them working for us. When you are giving someone the keys to your home, you want it to be someone who you can trust. They were punctual, neat, clean and did an excellent job.
Description of Work: We recently bought a fixer-upper that needed updating. We used Queen City to remodel our kitchen and bathroom. Both rooms were gutted and new fixtures installed in both. In the bathroom, a new tub, sink, toilet, tiles plus upgraded the electrical along with the plumbing. Ditto for the kitchen! Queen City and Gerald Nesbeth were extremely professional; from the first time that we met and the final clean up. They kept us fully informed and worked with us whenever there was a problem. I was most satisfied with the quality work this contractor did. Gerald Nasbeth is a man of his word and the estimate he gave me for the work came in exactly right. The men that worked on the house were very professional and detail oriented, and I would hire them again in an instant.
Description of Work: At first they power washed the entire 3 story including attic home for me, and then they did heavy preparation work, including caulking, sanding and taping. They then painted the entire home using high quality outdoor paint. This took them about a week or so to complete and all waste was disposed of by them when they were finished.

I liked everything about this company from the pricing on. They were great. The quality of the work done was fantastic. They were always punctual and they got the job done right the first time they were here. They were a headache free place for us to deal with.
Description of Work: Queen's City removed the old shingled roof on our 3000 square foot home. They then laid down a completely new shingled roof in its place. They also removed the old siding in our 3000 square foot home and put up entirely new siding. Gerald gave us a very fair estimate and when we gave the go ahead, he reviewed the details further, scheduled times for work, showed up on time and dispatched the jobs with efficiency and attention to detail. When discovering any additional issues in the course of his work, Gerald always called us to describe the problem and various solutions, only proceeding with the work if we agreed. Gerald and his crew were always considerate in protecting our property, carefully moving items that could possibly be damaged in any way during the work and returning items to the original spot when finished. They were also very diligent about cleaning up and leaving areas looking as if no disruption had taken place. We are very pleased with the work and would enthusiastically recommend Gerald and his crew without hesitation. Even our neighbors and friends have made very positive and unsolicited remarks about the results.
Description of Work: This was just one of several projects the company did for us. The $10,000 figure was for EVERYTHING. They repaired gutters when possible and replaced those where necessary on our house and garage.
