I had purchased a "Big Deal" giving me $299 worth of electrical work for $99. I had a badly rusted housing box on the exterior electric meter for the underground electrical supply. "Mr. Sparky" responded and advised that there were all sorts of perceived electrical problems observed throughout my house and that it would be anywhere from $2,900 to $6,700 dollars to fix it all, that the exterior box alone couldn't be replaced. That was beyond my means at this time and I instead called a local (non "big Deal") electrician who replaced the box for $350. Probably a bad idea on my part to purchase such an open-ended offer, when you have no idea what the ultimate price will be to start with.

According the to the photos we have on file for your property the perceived electrical problems are clear; the complete electrical system in your home is in need of immediate replacement. We strive to replace something right the first time and it is our company policy not to repair any compromised water damaged systems. We are sorry that we failed to communicate the safety issues to you in a way that would help you understand those safety issues and the value of the options we offer. Our promise in writing to update your particular situation showed 2 options one for a 200 AMP complete service update or a 100 Amp complete service update as you stated above the options ranged from $3K- $6K in cost. It worked out OK. To be honest, they came to do an inspection. Then they told me I needed some of my outlets on the outside fixed and with everything looked at and done I had a $700 bill. I wasn't anticipating that much. It was a great service for them to come in and inspect them, but then, at the end of the day, he said I really needed to get those outlets replaced on the outside of the house and it was a 12 year old house. It wasn't like it was an old house. They were professional. They had to come back because one of the outlets wasn't working. So, they came back and replaced it the next day. I have no complaints with them as far as professionalism. It was just an unexpected $700 charge. They were courteous.
Description of Work: I had a Big Deal from Mister Sparky Electric. They repaired two GIF outlets which they said were not working and then they replaced one of the smoke detectors in the basement.

I'll start by saying that the guy who came (sorry, forgot his name) was very professional and punctual. He listened to my concerns and looked at what we needed to do explaining all in details. However, what i did not like about this company was this: when i called them to set up the appt no one even mentioned that there is a fee for this "appt"/ "estimate". So, when the service man finished his walk through and comes and asks me for the payment, i lost it! This thing really got me upset, so i called the company and they had to put me on hold in order to listen to the recorded conversation about the appt. As a result, I did not pay because no one mentioned it on the phone. What really got me mad though was the estimate he gave me, which was way high!!!! Because of the amount he quoted me, i thought, why not at least get another estimate. Guess what, I found an electrician who is going to do the same work for about 2k, which is 3 times less than what this company would have charged me!!!! So, all of you out there, this company is a rip off!!!!!! Or not if you have a tone of money!!!!!!

Our technician carefully documented the safety issues present and our company recommendations. Along with supplying you with third party information about these safety hazards. We are here to educate, advise, offer options and serve. All of our service tickets clearly have options for you to say YES or NO to any or all the recommendations. We apologize for the misrepresentation of the phone when you set the appointment. Frank in the office promptly called and setup a convenient appointment and called to verify the appointment the day before. Ed, a super tech and nice guy, arrived promptly with his clean mat and cover booties to keep the house clean. Big deal coupon at $111 for $299 of work was used otherwise the bill total was $1595 plus service charge of $59. Had absolutely no complaints with the company or the services provided...neat, clean, professional and efficient. Thought the pricing was a bit high, but then again I couldn't do it myself which is why you call a professional. After the fact, I had some neighbors tell me prices were very high and others tell me it was fair...just for the time spent. Would probably use again since the I liked everything but the price...Maybe I'll ask my neighbors first what a ballpark estimate should be!
Description of Work: Breaker kept tripping for a kitchen fan. Had to run "diagnostics" to locate the problem. Replaced bad outside line and replaced two GFI outlets with covers. That solved the tripping breaker for a kitchen ceiling fan! Also, Ed supplied and installed new motion flood with switch over the garage.

We had purchased a big deal for the service, and it turned out fine. The service was fine but expensive. I knew when I saw the big deal, I knew that you wouldn't get too much for it. They behave like a business should behave. They contact you, they call you before they come, they keep their appointments, they are neat, they are clean, they explain to you, they do the job, and they clean up. I would recommend them to anyone, who has a case of money. They are very good, yet they are prohibitively expensive. I was able to go through a list of items and get some of them done, so I was satisfied. They called immediately after I purchased the coupon. Their price is too much, but the quality is good. I would use them again, if another big deal came along. I am thrilled with their service, it is just that they are expensive. I would use them every time, if they were in par with the other electricians.

I paid $149 to install each smoke detector. I thought it was rather high. He put them in without telling me the cost. I could have gone to a branded shop and could have got it for half the price or even 1/3rd of the price. He didn't tell the cost of the smoke detectors and if I would have known that, I would have never had him installed them. My total bill came up to $970. I paid $74 each for the clamps. I will never use him again because the cost is ridiculous. I could have had another plumber come in for half the cost. He was very professional because he didn't give me the cost of anything. I feel they owe me a refund. I felt that their price was enormous. Originally, I hired them because I wanted recessed lighting put in and there was a thing on Angie's List where for $99, the normal price would be $399 minus $299. They told me I would get it at $100 a piece, which would be almost $400 and they would charge me $99. This was the reason why I originally called them here. When the man got here, he did nothing about that. He didn't do exactly what I wanted him to do; but then he found other things wrong with the house, which he corrected.

As he advised you our company procedure is to carefully review the service call with the technician who completed your service call. We will have a resolution for you by Saturday 9-7-2013. 09-07-2013 Saturday 2:30 PM As promised we reviewed the service call with our technician and reviewed your concerns. In your conversation with our Field Manager Frank on Friday it was confirmed by you that the main concern of this service call was that the technician failed to offer you the option to get YOUR OWN carbon / smoke detectors and just have us install them. This option should have most definitely been offered to you even though 99% of our clients prefer the 2 year 100% guarantee that we provide when we supply and install the carbon smokes. We apologize that this option was not mentioned. You reviewed all this with field manager Frank who advised you that we stand behind our 100% satisfaction guarantee. You advised Frank that if you were given this option, you would have chosen to supply these items yourself. This would have reduced your cost to $74.00 + tax each ( install only no guarantee) as opposed to the supplied/installed/ 2 year guarantee price of $149+ tax each. Frank advised you that we will happily REFUND you the difference in the costs for the 3 carbon/smokes we did supply/install & guarantee. We will still honor our 2-year guarantee but your end cost will only be $74.00+ tax each. You advised Frank this would make you 100% satisfied with the services you received from our company. The refund of $244.40 ( 3 X $75.00 + tax) is being processed today, 9-10-2013. We sincerely apologize for any miscommunications that may have transpired between our service technician, yourself and your adult son who was also at the service call. We thank you for taking the time to bring this important concern to our attention. Our technicians work so hard to be the best they can be and as you can read from all our other reviews they do a fine job of this. Unfortunately for you, the option to offer you the costs to supply your own carbon/smokes was simply overlooked. We will most certainly train harder to improve our communications with our clients. could not have been better. after trying to get indenpent electrians to come, called Mr Sparky expecting to be overcharged by a large company. they showed up on time, give a very resonable estimate on both of my concerns. i agreed they promptly performed the repairs. Joe who performed the repair and provided the estimates was excellent, Joe and Ryan came the next day and replaced the outdated outside service. i have full respect and confidence he Mr Sparky. i will always and recommand them

He is very, very expensive. I had an electrician and he did a lot of work. He charged $90 per hour but his was too expensive. The work was good. That was not a problem. Their expensiveness is the problem. If I had to hire, I would not hire them not because of the work but because they're expensive.

Electrician Joe was excellent. He was professional, explained everything, and cleaned up after he finished work. I had contacted Mr. Sparky to regarding circuit breaker shutoff, faulty GFI outlet and I also had a few other things that I suspected might need attention. I learned a lot about my home's electrical system. Joe added other GFI outlets repaired doorbell. I plan to do other work Joe recommended such as replacing hard wired fire alarms that are outdated and outdoor fixtures within the near future. He was at my home for a total of 2 hrs. The cost seemed a bit high but I felt confident that the work and materials used were of high quality. I would definitely recommend this service to others.

I contacted Mr. Sparky's Deer Park number (631-242-8405) to set up an appointment. The phone staff is friendly and courteous. We set up a date for a rep to come and review the job and provide a quote. On the day of the appointment, the office called to say the technician is on his way and provided an estimated arrival time. The technician, Ed, arrived on time. He put a Mr. Sparky door mat at my door, wiped his feet and put on his Mr. Sparky shoe protectors. This sets Mr. Sparky apart from other contractors. Ed is very professional, courteous, knowledgeable and competent. He listed all tasks and obtained their costs from an estimating manual. After providing me with an estimate, he presented all vital paperwork (Workman's compensation insurance certificate, License, and insurance certificate). I would have authorized the work immediately, but I live in a condo where the board has to review the paperwork and approve the work. After receiving the condo board approval, I set a date with Mr. Sparky and specifically requested Ed. Everything from the first meeting was the same - confirmation phone call, on time arrival and door mat and shoe coverings. Ed got right to work. He brought all he needed (including top of the line electrical equipment). He worked efficiently and cleanly and when he left, the room was as clean as when he started. The job's price was exactly as estimated. I recommend Mr. Sparky to everyone and I will use them again (I already have an estimate for my next improvement).
Description of Work: Completely replaced a circuit breaker panel. This included removing old panel, cutting a hole for the larger panel, replacing the water main ground, installing a Panel surge protector, completing the panel circuit directory and scheduling the third party inspection and certification of their work.

It was a very good experience. They helped me change out some dimmer switches. I do need a refund on one of the two deals I bought because I was only allowed to use one. By their rates, it cost me essentially 380 dollars to change three dimmer switches, which seems pretty high.

This Deal states "One Deal per person per household". We also contacted you directly via email immediately after we received notification that you purchased (2) deals. We wanted to make sure you had ample time to cancel one or both deals if having only one Big Deal wasn't going to help you with your home repairs. Ed came to assess what I needed done on the first day and fixed the ballasts, inside outlets, my front lights and my 2 switches. Ed arrived right on time and put the red rug out and had shoe covers on prior to knocking on the door. He was totally pleasant and professional. Ed explained everything clearly to me that needed to be done. A couple of days later Ed and Ryan came to do the panel and the rest of the work. I felt very comfortable with Ed and Ryan in my home. The work was done efficiently and they were extremely neat. The price for the work, I felt was fair. I would definitely recommend Mr. Sparky to anyone who needs electrical work. I know I will be using them in the future for any work I may need. .

He was excellent. The service was excellent, but it was a lot more money than I anticipated. Basically, that was it. He was here a long time, but it was like $1,776, the bill. I just recently moved here, so I don't know what things cost. They were extremely clean and nice. I do think it was a little high, but what they did was very professional. They didn't charge by the hour. They charge by the job. The quality was very good.
Description of Work: I purchased a "Big Deal" from Mister Sparky Electric for electrical work. He put in two ceiling fans in the attic. He put in wall sockets, but he had run a line from the cellar to the first floor. They put in another circuit in.

It was a pleasant and friendly experience. The electrician examined the whole electrical set up, explained the results, made out a list of what needed to be done and listed the prices. I was then able to choose the items that were most important to me and decide, price wise, what I could handle at the present time. I appreciated the fact that there was no pressure to complete everything. As a result, I will certainly use your services in the future
