Short version? Amazing, great job, will definitely hire again (have plans for Spring work but holding on all spending for a bit!), recommended him already to friends. We are thrilled. Kevin, Tony and the team were great to work with. You could set your watch by them. There is always dust from work but they have great equipment that made it far less than most, made a big difference. They put down drop cloths and cleaned up nicely at the end of every day. Great attention to detail, Kevin cares about what he puts his name on. No worrying that he'll give you sub-standard things. He's a quality contractor to the point if it's not to his standard he won't do it. Which is a mark of someone you want to work with to me. Because someone who knows what they are looking at would then think he's a sub-standard contractor, which he is NOT. I highly recommend him. You can stop here if you want or keep reading.... Long version? see above and add that Kevin made everything he touched better. This is our first house and it was our first major renovation project. That can be nerve wracking. We liked Kevin right away. I had so many things on my list and went over a lot and he helped us focus and set a better priority list because wants and budgets rarely go hand in hand. So we focused on structural/safety things and getting the kitchen functioning the way we wanted. (thank goodness because all our appliances either never worked right or slowly had issues or died). The basement stairs were pulling apart in one section toward the bottom, obvious hazard. Kevin reinforced the ENTIRE staircase, not just the one area. Screws in treads, shims at all joints, new glue all around. They are so solid, I thought it would have just been a isolated fix. Thrilled. Garage had dirt around all sides that rotted the sill all around. He rebuilt the sill, reinforced the footing, made it structurally sound. Thrilled again. Sun room reinforcement from old leaks there ended up being minor. Now the BIG project. The kitchen part was detailed enough. 40" stove with 3" of space at either side, no mounted microwave. Replaced by a 30" range, microwave that needed cuts made for a proper vent fan for new microwave, custom built cabinets to complete it. Then my husband decided the wall separating kitchen from our open living space needed to come down. Kevin took it all down and moved one cabinet to the newly opened space on the wall, painted the side of the cabinet that was now exposed- it had nail holes and stickers- it looked brand new! Wonderful! Now the sand-textured ceiling in the living area was meeting the smooth ceiling in the kitchen. Scope creep again! Kevin quoted skim coating the ceiling and painting the main living space and we decided to do it all now and do it right. He added lighting through the whole space. We had a light switch by the front door that controlled an outlet basically in the middle of the space- where you wouldn't want a floor lamp. We changed that and a few other outlets so the house finally makes sense, is properly lit and we now have new lights at the entry way so we feel a lot safer when we get home. Every wall had years of bad patch work and one wall had an inexplicable swirl pattern on it. One wall had paneling with nice smooth wall under it and another wall was just ribbed paneling with nothing behind it. Molding was white, wood, large, small....a menagerie. We now have walls that are smooth, molding that all matches in color, it's amazing the transformation. The new cabinets in the kitchen didn't match in style so we made them a beautiful slate/navy blue. (I was thinking turquoise- trying to be bold. Kevin talked me into a deeper blue- which I've also admired on Pinterest. SO glad we went with his vision). The idea was don't hide the difference, accent it. Beautiful butcher block counter tops on our tiny 4 inch cabinets rather than trying to match our granite. We couldn't stop staring at it for days. We were in awe. Thrilled, thrilled, thrilled. I think I've gushed enough. If you've read this far know that Kevin takes a lot of pride in his work for good reason. He'll leave your home better than it was. We actually missed seeing Kevin and Tony when it was all done, though we were all glad it was over and we could all move on! We'll be calling him back again for sure. Everyone who sees it can't stop complimenting it. We can't wait to show it off more! (I've attached pictures to show it off here! Please excuse the "before" pics- we didn't need a dining table in our prior home so just threw together a table and chairs at first- note how good the molding around the window looks though!) Only part we didn't think to include was back splash, we hoped the tiles could be moved around as there was one row that went down one wall (don't ask) but they fell apart and they left a torn up wall when removed so we just left it for now- the scope had gotten crazy, we wanted to have a cut off on cost, and we knew Kevin had other clients to get to so we'll either try to DIY that or have Kevin do that later. He even fixed a few small things here and there- one he might think I didn't notice was a knob for one window crank- he found the knob in the kitchen and glued it on in the dining area. I caught it- and appreciated it. That's the sort of contractor Kevin is.
Description of Work: Fabrication of new cabinets around stove (fill in sides as old stove was 40" with empty space at sides, new is 30") replace upper cabinet, mount microwave, small fill cabinets at sides of new microwave to match lowers, cut holes to vent new microwave, take down wall between kitchen and living space, move a cabinet to newly opened space, pendant lights added, skim coat ceiling in living space, removed paneling, sheet rocked 2 walls, molding where needed (crown and base/shoe), relocate light switches so they made sense, add LED flood lights, some wall skim coating, painted entire space, fix basement stairs that were separating, rebuild entire sill of garage, fill in/replace siding as needed to make weather proof, reinforce ceiling beams in sun room. rebuild a knee wall bookcase that was a huge energy leak with something solid, insulated and easily removable for access.

Kevin and Tony arrived on time, 7:30am as stated. They were friendly and professional. The job was not as simple as Kevin first thought, but they made the needed adjustments (running a new electrical wire and removing part of a beam) and stuck to the originally stated price. Their work was clean and neat and their cleanup was excellent. I am completely satisfied.
Description of Work: I needed a microwave installed and vented to the outside.
We are so happy with the work that we had done on our house. Kevin and his crew were amazing. They are knowledgeable and professional and we couldn't be more pleased with the whole experience. They take the time and effort to make sure things are done right. We had a custom built in done in the entryway, an island added to the kitchen, some light fixtures added and replaced and some minor things around the house fixed. They also took care of a few extra things, fixing things done by the previous homeowner that weren't done properly. As with any job on old houses, problems arise. We had uneven ceilings and corners that weren't square. There was also an issue with the original wiring when adding a light outside the garage. Kevin was able to assess, offer solutions and execute. Kevin and Tony are incredibly skilled and take great pride in their work. It definitely shows in the finished product. The built in is beautiful and sturdy and so well made, it looks like it's always been there. I loved that Kevin asked for my input in the design every step of the way. The job was completed on time (they knew we were having family over for our first Christmas in the house) and within budget. They also left the house every day cleaner than it was when they got there in the morning! We would not hesitate to hire them again. In fact, we've already discussed with Kevin jobs in the future when the weather gets warmer!

I want to thank Kevin and Tony for coming out for a very small job but was obviously very important to me. The were prompt, professional and performed first-class work. I'm looking forward to hiring them for larger jobs further down the line.
Description of Work: Reinstalled microwave oven that had been installed incorrectly by previous handyman.
Working with Kevin and Tony was a great experience. We previously thought we had found a contractor for our project, but a series of red flags caused us to reconsider our choice and we reluctantly began a new search. Happily, we ultimately found Creatively Done through Angie's List. Kevin and his team were accessible, professional, prompt, respectful, approachable and responsive. Their no-nonsense and creative approach to find solutions to both known challenges and unforeseen problems was literally a breath of fresh air...The venting issues in our kitchen and bathroom were completely resolved by Kevin, while some other contractors we spoke to seemed hesitant to recommend a solution. He also explored options to support the weight of an under-window granite countertop. Ultimately he had steel brackets fabricated which have a very low profile so that we don't bang our knees while sitting there. Kevin's carpentry skills shined during the cabinet installation. We followed his recommendations for installation tweaks and were very pleased with the results. His moulding work was fantastic. In a nutshell, we had a vision, and Kevin and his team made it happen in a timely manner and within budget. We highly recommend this company.

The service itself went well. But Kevin the owner is a nasty man. He called me on the phone after the work was done and was so rude I had to hang up the phone. I would never hire them again. I'm sure he'll give some response to this but keep in mind I unlike him have nothing to gain by lying. There are plenty of other people on here to hire.

We are so pleased with the work Kevin Cullen, Creatively Done Home Improvements, did for us with our kitchen remodel. Kevin and Tony installed an over-the-range microwave and vented it to the outside. They also installed crown molding on our cabinet tops. They matched the paint stain beautifully! The attention to detail they gave was extraordinary. We ran into difficulties hidden behind the wall layers in the middle of the job, causing them to redirect their planning. They always kept their pleasant attitude and Kevin said “we will find a way to get it done, don’t worry.” And they did. Kevin’s work ethic was very evident – arriving promptly at 8:00 a.m., putting clear plastic down everywhere, cleaning up thoroughly when leaving and treating our home and this job as their own. When we took the new microwave out of the box and found it to be defective, Kevin was determined to complete our job as promised, and they returned the next day (even though it was a Sunday!) to do this. We sincerely appreciate all the hard work, dedication and skilled craftsmanship of this company and how beautiful our kitchen looks now. We will definitely use again! Thank you.

The work was done very professionally. They painstakingly worked to make sure that the installation was well fitted and that the look was professional when completed. They were high quality workers and did all the little extras to ensure a well done job. Definitely provide a high caliber of work. Very direct and honest in their approach.
Description of Work: Install base and casement molding throughout a number of rooms.
Work was done over two days. Brandon worked on siding repairs and bird nest issue on day 1. Tony and Kevin came on second day. Tony continued to work on the siding repairs, and Kevin focused on the deck repairs and crown molding. I appreciated that Kevin purchased the needed materials for each job in advance and brought receipts. I found him to be knowledgeable, good at communicating, experienced and straightforward. Labor was about $1,200 total over the two days; plus about another $450 for the supplies.
Description of Work: 1.extensive repair of heavily weathered cedar shakes on south side 2.removal of bird nesting above garage, repair of shakes, disinfected, extensive placement of cooper mesh to prevent re-nesting 3.repair/replacement of several pieces of deck 3.crown molding - paint first coat and install

Summary: Kevin and Tony did a fantastic job throughout the entire process and we have already recommended them to others. Both were great to deal with, amenable, upfront, honest, and undeniably competent and knowledgeable about each project. They're true craftsmen who are brilliant at what they do and take pride in their work, both of which absolutely show through: the quality of the finished product is unparalleled and their professionalism is unbeatable. Background: My wife and I moved into a 1920s colonial on July 31, 2016. The stairs from the first floor to the basement needed to be addressed because they were sloping and loose. The kitchen has one door, two doorways, and three windows, all of which had varying moulding around them. And the dryer vent pipe was the kind of tubing that wasn't rigid, leaving an opportunity for lint to build up. Taking the two main jobs to point out, here's a bit more about the staircase and moulding. Stairs: The old stairs were unsupported and curious as to durability. Kevin and Tony removed the entire staircase and fabricated a new set of stairs that look fantastic and are sturdy as ever. While it could have been done over the course of two days or more at varying hours, they devoted an entire day to the project to ensure that it was completed in the best way possible. Moulding: The previous moulding was mismatched and disjointed. It didn't match the rest of the house, there were various sizes and types of wood involved, it wasn't all put in or on sensibly, and the dimensions were pretty different from anything you can find in a store. Kevin and Tony removed all of that material and built from scratch new sets of moulding for each window and doorway to match the house's original moulding. The task wasn't easy and had a good deal of room for error, but they managed to have the final product match the rest of the house perfectly and we couldn't be happier. We're planning to continue working with them on some other projects, so yes, we absolutely recommend Creatively Done Home Improvements.
Description of Work: Moulding - Fabrication and installation of new moulding with removal of old moulding; Stairs - Fabrication and installation of stairs with removal of old stairs; Sink - Modify cabinetry to fit apron front sink and install sink hardware (i.e., faucet, soap dispenser, spray, and drain cover); and Dryer - Install new dryer vent pipe with removal of old vent pipe.

Mr. Cullen and his team arrived promptly at 8:00 and began the work. Mr. Cullen and his people assessed the job and developed a plan for the day. First task was to put down extensive drop cloths. Next was the removal of the old air conditioner from the wall. They had the challenge of having hot water line for the second floor baseboard running next to the air conditioner and had to carefully cut the old sheetrock to avoid those. While cutting the sheetrock one of the men followed the cutter with a vacuum to minimize the mess. The team worked quite well together and once the wall was open they removed damaged wood, enlarged the opening to fit the new air conditioner and carefully reframed the opening. The new opening was much better arranged than the original and far stronger. They even installed metal shields over the water line to protect them from nail damage. They next installed the new machine and replaced the drywall and exterior shingles, including flashing over the air conditioner to keep out water. They caulked all seams and then spackled the new sheetrock. Clean up was excellent, no mess or debris. Now that the wall has been painted you would never know it had been opened up. I will hire CDH for jobs in the future. Excellent work and all employees were professional, polite and skilled.
Description of Work: Work performed was the following: 1. Remove old air conditioner from the wall. 2. Remove the sheetrock from the interior wall. 3. Check for water damage and mold. 4. Repair any damage and rework opening to properly fit new air conditioner. 5. Install new air conditioner. 6. Replace interior sheetrock and exterior shingles and put flashing above air conditioner. 7. Caulk around air conditioner and seal around the unit. 8. Spackle the wall so it is ready for painting.

Kevin and his partner Brandon were professional and courteous. They took the time to explain all aspects of the repairs and showed up in a timely manner both for the consult and the day of the job. We had them perform several projects, the most important of which involved the removal and replacement of vinyl siding around a stoop (we were having our cement stoop capped with stone). They completed each job to our satisfaction and do good work. We were initially concerned with the overall cost of the job given the fact that our list of projects did not appear to comprise a full day's work, and several deals on Angie's list for handyman work was advertised at $1400 for a week's worth of services. We only needed a day. But Kevin and Brandon adjusted the initial quote for unused materials and also did some power washing upon return. So we were happy with services provided. We highly recommend using the services of Creatively Done Home Improvements in the future and we plan to use them again.

Kevin and his team do great work - arrived on time and clearly take pride in everything they do. We needed better closet organization as they had become unmanageable and Kevin took the time to understand exactly what we intended to store and use them for which resulted in custom closets that are exceptionally functional and beautiful - my wife could not be happier with them. Brandon and Anthony showed up with very little notice (same day). We purchased a heavy chandelier that needed hanging from a 12ft ceiling. I was extremely pleased with the final result and will definitely hire them again.
