B & P Chimney Cleaning & Repair

My oil company found I was not getting any draft up my chimney and recommended I have the chimney cleaned. Based on reviews from Angie's List, I called B&P Chimney Cleaning to do the job. They originally said they would come on Aug. 18 in the afternoon, but on that date they called and asked if they could come earlier--which was fine with me. They cleaned out the chimney, and then said the flue pipes were very old and the hot water heater pipes were too narrow, causing a poor draft (which I was already told by someone else). I told them to replace all the pipes and they said the price was $590, but they would have to come back another day (didn't have the pipes with them). This was OK with me. Another crew returned punctually on the date promised, replaced the pipes, took all the old pipes with them, and cleaned the area well. I didn't have any other estimates to compare with theirs, so I don't really know if they are reasonable or expensive. But their cleanliness and punctuality would have me recommend them to others.

B&P reported that ours was a very difficult job. We had had several estimates, with all of them giving different prices and different ways of fixing the problem. We decided on B&P based on their recommendations on Angie's List and also on the fact that they thought they could reline the chimney internally rather than running a pipe up the side of our house (a limestone townhouse). We thought a pipe up the side of the house would reduce the house's value and thus wanted the chimney relined internally, even though this would cost significantly more. The job was done quickly and on-time at the start of the winter season. A disappointment: they told us they could get a brick that would closely match the brick already used on the side of our house. Unfortunately this was not the case and the bricks they used to fill in look very different from the bricks originally there. The workmen were friendly, but were not terribly cautious about protecting the plantings along the side of my house.

They informed me that they were running a little later than the scheduled appointment. Finished the job very quickly. Gave me an estimate for the work that needed to be done which was not in the original work order. Both the guys were very professional. I'm thinking of calling them back to get the suggested repair done if it gets worse...

They were excellent and very neat. I've had no problems since they did the work.

The work crew arrived at the time they said they would. And did exactly what we had contracted for. They not only took away the old material, but cleaned up any mess they made in the driveway. They answered any questions we had while the work progressed rapidly and they were finished in less than one day.

B & P Chimney Cleaning & Repair is a very honest and forthright service company. The serviceman could have told us we needed a $4000 liner which someone else had said, but he was honest enough to tell us that we did not need a new liner. This man was professional, courteous, very knowledgeable and thorough.

I called on a Friday afternoon and they were here the next day to check the job out. They came Monday morning and worked all day. The job was finished on Tuesday. They were very clean. Very professional. I would recommend them to anyone who needs work done.

I have a gas boiler, so I do not have to have my chimney cleaned that often. I thought this company was just okay. They did not do an overly good job or an overly bad job. When he was cleaning the chimney, he noticed that the cover was missing. He told me that it needed a new cap. They cost for the chimney sweep was $70 and I paid $130 to have the new chimney cap put on. I thought they could have done a better job cleaning up. They were on time for the appointment though and I would recommend them.

When I called to make the appointment, I asked the general cost of cleaning the chimney and was told $39.95. When the mechanic came, he asked if the furnace chimney was being cleaned, the fireplace chimney or both. I had wanted the fireplace chimney cleaned only. They moved a heavy table and started cleaning. The mechanic pointed out work that was needed on the outside of the chimney and gave me an estimate. He told me the cost of the cleaning was $60 for the fireplace. When I told him the price I was quoted, he said that was for the cost of cleaning the furnace chimney. I guess I wasn't clear but no one mentioned there was a difference. They were neat, and cleaned up somewhat, but still left stains on the carpet and around the fireplace which I cleaned up myself. Also, they did not move the heavy table back to place.

After having my chimney company recommend that I get a new stainless steel liner for $2300, I decided to get a second opinion. B&P came out right away, said I only needed a minor repair and did the job that same day.

Reasonably priced. Professional foreman. Job performed as promised.

Outstanding. The worker coordinating the job, George, was exemplary. Very professional and courteous, not to mention efficient. Work was completed as promised, and I would highly recommend this establishment to anyone.

I had been informed by another company that they couldn't clean my chimney because the liner was so badly damaged that they could not get the sweeper through the opening. This other company told me that I needed a new liner at a cost of $1,600. I proceeded to get another estimate from B&P. The B&P owner, Paul Lonergan, called before coming and arrived on time. He proceeded to tell me that I did not need a new liner, the chimney was perfectly fine and that it would be many years before I'd need a new liner. He was very informative regarding how to safely and efficiently use the fireplace and monitor for carbon monoxide.

The crew showed up on time. They came prepared for the work and took less than five hours to complete the entire job. They were professional, clean, and the job cost exactly what they said. I had three other quotes for this job. The two that were about the same price did not include things like chimney cleaning and could not start for several weeks. One also said the work could take two days, with four men. The third quote was for more than twice the price I paid and did not include flue liners, cleaning, etc. All in all, I would recommend them to friends and family.

Everyone, from my first phone call to my last, from talking with the workers while on the job, was extremely professional. The work looks good/solid, but only time will tell.

I WAS PLEASED WITH B & P BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT AGGRESSIVE LIKE OTHER CHIMNEY SERVICES I HAVE USED. I APPRECIATED IT WHEN THEY DISCUSSED THE CONDITION OF MY CHIMNEY BUT DID NOT PUSH FOR EXPENSIVE REPAIRS TO BE DONE.

I HAVE NOT HAD MY CHIMNEY CLEANED IN YEARS, SO THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE USED THIS COMPANY. OVERALL, THEY DID AN AMAZING JOB CLEANING THE CHIMNEY. THERE USE TO BE BLACK SMOKE COMING OUT THE CHIMNEY, NOW THE SMOKE IS WHITE AS SNOW.

I AM DISGUSTED WITH B & P CHIMNEY SERVICE BECAUSE THEY TRIED TO RIP ME OFF. MY CHIMNEY HAS BEEN CLEANED BY THEM FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS AND EACH YEAR I AM TOLD THERE IS A DIFFERENT SET OF PROBLEMS.
