+ -1 moreFolkes was one of four bids that I got for replacing my system. I was surprised at the wide range of prices for the work involved. Folkes was not the cheapest but had a good combination of quality of equipment, logic for what needed to be replaced and options for when the old unit was removed. I was very happy with their bidding process and the installation went very well. The installers were polite, personable and knowledgeable. They were open to explaining what they were doing and particulars about the system. Their work was neat, cleaning up after themselves. Very happy with the work done, the office staff and estimator. Highly recommend.

Then they said, I needed a holding tank which they should have done in the first place. The quality was impaired by the time they came back and put in a holding tank. I will probably use them again

+ -1 moreI got prompt, courteous, and professional service. My hot water heater was not working well or at all. I checked reviews and found Folkes. They stated a time range in which they'd arrive and stuck to it. I got a diagnosis that I'd need a hot water heater. They came the next day, pulled the old one, installed the new one and hauled the old one away for a good price. The technicians were all courteous and skilled. I was very happy with the outcome, price, and service. I will call these guys next time. I was almost going to give them a "B" on punctuality because they came in the latter part of their predicted window, but they still made, and the home office even called to assure me they would. Everyone - from the office to the two techs I spoke with - was courteous, polite, and professional. I highly recommend them and I see why they already come highly recommended.

+ -1 moreIt went good. Only a couple issues. One they demanded payment before the job was started. I don't know if it was because we were new customers or this is their policy, but they would not start the job until paid. This a commercial building The other issue was that the wrong part was delivered. The technician arrived and discovered the wrong part and had to reorder and reschedule. If it had been in January instead of May, this could have presented a problem. It took 3 weeks to get the heater fixed. But they came when they said they would, were professional and knowledgeable.

Rep for company; Dorene, was very knowledgable and helpful getting the job started, and her boss, Dustin is a pleasure to do business with. All the workers on the premises were very respectful, hard working guys..no fooling around or taking excessive breaks. Very neat job inside and out. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to get a job like this done. Excellent organization!

I thought that it was a good idea to have the service contract, though it wasn’t one that I had to take. The service guy really knew what he was doing. He was very thorough and took his time. He was very good. That was the reason I decided to have a service contract with the company. He has been with the company for a while. He said that I could get him when I called again. The work turned out very well.

They came when expected; quickly and competently finished the job. This work was being done for my 95 year old father. They treated him with respect and didn't talk down to him as I have seen so many other servicers do. They answered all his questions and explained what and how they were going to perform the second tank installation. (He is a very young and sound of mind 95 year old) My father and I were very pleased with their work and professionalism. The installation was completed on scheduled and price was very fair. They are definitely on our list for future work.

+ -1 moreWhen I made the appointment, was told technician would be at house between 5 and 7 pm. Come 6:45 pm, no one has showed up. Called and got answering service. Was told that they would contact Dustin and he would get back to me. He did call about 10 minutes later and said the technician was still on another job and would be there in another hour. Felt that if I didn't call, no one would have gotten back to me. Technician did show up at 8 pm. His name was Kurt and he was very apologetic and professional. Found out what was wrong and fixed the problem in about an hour or so. Felt that I was overcharged for the part which I know includes labor but the part costs about $20 and I was charged $250 plus another $92 for the house call.
Description of Work: Replaced fan switch on blower unit of central air conditioner.

+ -1 moreHad a problem with 15 yr old Central Air Conditioner unit where ice was formed on outside pipe from unit. Turned off AC and called Folkes for assistance. They were able to send Kurt out that same day, which was great with the hot weather. First time using them and was extremely pleased with Kurt. He quickly diagnosed the problem, clearly explained the issue, told us what to be looking for going forward, and fixed the problem that same day. We had several questions relating to the types of vents, filters and lack of air flow we had been experiencing previously, and he gave us some real good ideas on how to improve. We also spoke about potential leaks and replacement units. Will definitely use Folkes again just because of Kurt’s helpfulness, knowledge and professionalism.

+ -1 moreI would like to thank James F. and everyone at Folkes Heating and Cooling for being such a great business to work with. Every interaction I've had with the staff has been pleasant and productive. They were able to come out to us in a pinch for an AC check-up, which was extremely accommodating of them. Unfortunately, the problem was bigger than my husband and I thought and we actually ended up needing to order and install a new motor. James was right back at the house as soon as the part came in. All along, he was very friendly and knowledgeable, being able to explain everything to me really well. He got a few big smiles out of my toddler as well, and didn't mind our goofy 80lb dog Layla jumping all over him. We will definitely be doing more business with Folkes in the future and will recommend them to all our friends and associates in the area.
Description of Work: Diagnosed, researched (due to an uncommon type/model heating/cooling unit) and replaced faulty motor, which they did immediately upon arrival of the new part.

+ -1 moreI had a concern about an oil smell coming from the furnace and Folkes had a very reasonable diagnostic fee. The gentleman that came out was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. He did a very thorough check of all the various parts of the furnace and gave detailed explanations and suggestions. He answered all my numerous questions being a new homeowner and made me feel very comfortable that he was sure of his diagnosis and there was nothing to worry about. He suggested a yearly cleaning at some point before next winter but was not pushy or trying to sell me a new furnace or a service contract although he mentioned my options and his opinion. As a matter of fact he informed me that my very old furnace was in excellent working condition and he was surprised to see it was doing so well for its age!! I was very pleased overall and will be calling them each time I need service and when it comes time to upgrade my furnace. Thanks Folkes!! :)

+ -1 moreBefore we actually moved in to the house we used Folkes Heating Cooling and Burner Service to put in a full heating and cooling system. There is an HV A/C system, and a humidifier and a de-humidifier. We had a couple of estimates done, and Folkes were the one we really wanted to go with, the way that they were going to put in the duct work and so forth. Other people wanted to go outside the house and back inside the house, and I didn't think that was a good idea. Their idea was to put everything through the floors. They gave me a good price on a good system. They hauled away all of the old heating equipment that we had here. They had to have electricians and everything in to do a lot of the sub-contracting work. Basically, they did a very neat job, and cleaned up every day. When we had them back to do the Humidifier and De-Humidifier, same things. You would never know they were here. The price was just about what everybody else was charging for the same product.

+ -1 moreThey refunded my money only after I spoke with the owner and demanded he do so. He has lost a customer forever. However from his attitude I'm sure he doesn't particularly care. Found another honest furnace company for future cleanings but thought I should make others aware of my experience. I just joined Angie's list and am giving reviews to many of the local business who's services I have used over the years. Some will be good others wont. This is what Angie's List is here for.
Description of Work: Tried to rip me off by not doing a correct cleaning of my furnace and then trying to sell me a part I didn't need. Cleaning which was done incorrectly charged 236.79. I had originally called because of black smoke coming out of my chimney. When they left I had smoke coming out of the furnace INTO the house. Called later that night, the owner actually wanted me to turn off the furnace till the morning. I insisted someone come that night. I have 4 kids, it's the middle of march, no furnace means no hot water and no heat. He showed up later that night to find his technician never sealed the door properly which was causing the smoke to come into the house. Problem still not solved, because smoke was still coming out of the chimney. The next day they tried to sell me a pump for some made up figure of 617.00. You would think with the visit the owner made to the house the night before he would have figured out the technician didn't make the proper adjustments. Found someone else to fix the problem the right way for 135.13 DID NOT need a new pump as Folkes tried to sell me. It only needed a cleaning and for the correct adjustments to be made, oh and the technician from folks installed the wrong sized nozzle.

+ -1 moreDustin Folkes and his team were amazing in every aspect you could ask for. Flexibilty, prompt, high quality work, thorough, you name it they did it. Great guys too. They do what is necessary and don't try to sell you on extra stuff. Down to earth and have your best interests in mind. They take the time to figure out the ideal situation for your circumstance. In my case I had every duct taken out of my house by Friday and they came on last minute notice that day to give me just enough ducts so I could have heat until they could finish the job the following Monday. What else could you ask for? Prices were reasonable! They have a customer here for life. Thanks again Dustin!

The previous company had trampled and killed the perennials that were planted near the outside unit. When I called Folkes the person I spoke to was very friendly and accommodating in setting up the appointment. When the technician came to perform the service, he was also very courteous and obviously knew what he was doing. I hadn't mentioned anything about my flowers, and I was happy to see that he was very careful about the plants while being thorough in performing the work on the AC system. The price was lower than the two other companies had charged in prior years for the same service. Excellent service and courteous, friendly people - I will not hesitate to recommend Folkes and will continue to call them when I need their services.

+ -1 moreCalled Folkes for the first time as a new customer at 9:00am on the Friday after Christmas. They were able to promise a visit the same day. Office personnel were very polite and informative. When 3:00pm approached, during my service window from 1-4pm, I got a call from the office to let me know that someone would definitely be there and not to worry if I called the office and got a recording that they were closed for the day. As our furnace has not been looked at since we bought our house, I had planned on starting a service contract. Our tech, Paul, was great and very professional. Prices seem reasonable, and they honored the $25 Angie's List discount mentioned on this site. I ended up paying only about $50 for today's visit, and signed up for a service contract for $194 that includes a spring and fall visit for A/C and furnace. Contract includes 15% discount on parts and labor; a better contract might include all labor (as my dad's does in western New York) but I'm not sure if that is realistic in this region.
Description of Work: Furnace burner was cycling on and off rapidly. Tech went through several possibilities including pressure switch test, replaced igniter/flame rod device, and checked roll-out switches. Nothing worked until he found a clog in a rubber tube that led from the inducer motor. Charged us only for the service visit.
