It's all about the sales pitch!! They seem to provide a very high quality product - however I don't need a Bently when I'm looking for a Lexus - and it took a TWO HOUR presentation just to get a price. And when someone prefaces a sentence with "I don't want to seem rude, but.....", that usually means that what they are going to say is rude. First off, they wouldn't even come to the house for an estimate unless BOTH me and my wife were home, they are FIRM about this (this was my first clue that it was going to be a pushy sales pitch). We both work full time (and crazy hours) so getting us together w/o the kids for TWO HOURS can be rough. My wife had to call 3 or 4 times just to arrange an appointment. They do this so that after the presentation they can pressure you into giving a deposit and signing a contract RIGHT THERE AND THEN (I knew this was going to happen!!) The sales rep was 10 mins late ( forgivable, LI traffic). The company seems to provide a very good quality product and very good service. The sales rep put booties on his shoes when he came into the house. I am very confident that if we joined their cult we would have been very happy - but that's how the sales pitch felt, like I was joining a cult - brainwashing - I was emotionally drained after the presentation. When we tried to hurry it along, the sales person started getting really pushy, and in a semi-angry tone says, "...what we are doing right here.....this conversation.... is making the presentation longer.....I said it was going to be 90 mins....blah, blah, blah....". Now that I think about it, I should have punched him in the mouth for speaking to my wife in that tone. Note to sales people: If the pitch is going bad......GET OUT. That being said....they do have very good quality windows - probably the best - BUT you will pay for it - probably DOUBLE what you will if you were to get "new-construction" windows. One of my biggest issues is that these are REPLACEMENT windows. That means that all of the trim/casement on the inside stays the same - therefore you have a brand new window with old crappy trim on the inside. Whats really funny is that replacing this trim would be really cheap (relative to the exorbitantly priced windows - we're talking $50 for a $5,000 job....), they should just do the whole thing for what they charge. The salesman's retort to this was 2 fold. 1) If the person installing the windows is no good, then the job is no good. Agreed. However for what they charge, I can hire the best/most experienced contractor in the area to install the best "new-construction" Anderson windows for half the price - including new trim/casement .....again, for almost half the price. 2) the "Replacement" by Anderson windows are better than the "New-Construction" Anderson windows - contradicting his whole "...Anderson...110 years old...trusted....great quality..." speech. So, salesman, what you are saying is that Anderson only makes awesome "replacement" windows, but the "new construction" windows are just OK....I'm confused. This company must thrive on those who are naive about construction/home-repair. These windows are for people who have money to burn (for a product that may be worth it, mind you...) , and who have a relatively new home. For what they charge, it makes more sense to me to hire a good contractor to install new windows (with new trim/casement) then to "replace" what you have - it's honestly twice the price!! So, If you want the "best of the best", your windows have relatively new trim on the inside, you have Persian rugs and new paint on the wall, and you have 2 hours to listen to a sales rep, than I recommend renewals by Anderson.

Response from Renewal by Andersen of Long Island
We appreciate you taking the time to share your comments about your experience with RBA Long Island. We appreciate how you feel, but would like to provide more information about our policy and your concerns. First of all, we apologize if our design consultant was rude. That is not how we conduct business at Renewal by Andersen of Long Island and you can be assured that we will address that with your design consultant as a very high priority. Secondly, a person’s home is generally considered their sanctuary in an otherwise hectic world and we take the responsibility for working on that home very seriously. Replacing the windows in your home is not a decision to take lightly. We are very thorough in our presentations because we want you to feel confident that we take your home and your comfort as seriously as you do. Most presentations take between 60 and 90 minutes to thoroughly cover everything that needs to be discussed to ensure you understand the windows you are considering for your home. Two hours is certainly a long time, but we don’t ever want to short-change our potential customers if they have questions or concerns and we’ll spend as much time as you need to be comfortable with your decision. Thirdly, Renewal by Andersen replacement windows are custom made to the exacting specifications and design options chosen by our customers. In order to provide a price, we must have agreement on every design choice that will affect the end price of the job. Once the windows are manufactured, we can’t change the design choices so we ask that everyone who has a stake in the home agrees not only on the design and performance specifications, but that they like the actual look of the windows. This ensures that everyone is satisfied with the end result of the window project. Meeting with both you and your wife together ensures the best possible experience for you and saves time for everyone because it guarantees that there will be no misunderstanding that could cause either one of you to be unhappy with the job and/or results. We are happy to schedule appointments at any time -- days, evenings, weekends – to ensure we can find a time convenient for everyone. Fourthly, the main difference between Renewal by Andersen Replacement Windows and Andersen New Construction Windows is the method of installation. RBA Replacement Windows don’t require us to remove your exterior siding, or, as you stated, disturb the trim on the inside of your house. This is usually preferred by most homeowners as there is therefore less dust, dirt and disruption inside the home. Removing trim, particularly if it old and has been repainted many times, often damages the interior wall, which then requires patching, sanding, repainting, etc. This of course takes time and creates dust and disruption inside the house. We try to avoid this to save you the hassle. Of course, if you would like us to replace the trim, this is certainly something we can do for you and our design consultant should have offered you that option. Again, we sincerely apologize that you had a bad experience with our design consultant and we are addressing that issue as a matter of the highest priority. We would really like the opportunity to address your concerns and make your experience with Renewal by Andersen of Long Island more positive. Please contact me directly at 877-313-9055 to let us know how we can help. I look forward to hearing from you. Joe Ronzino, President, Renewal by Andersen of Long Island

I have Anderson windows in my home and have been more than satisfied with them. I also have a Anderson French Patio door which the lamination on the outside lifted and cracked the wood. Even though the door was past warranty Anderson replace the entire door panel and had someone install it. Because of this excellent service when it came to replacing the remaining nine windows in my home, that were not Anderson I called Anderson Renewal. I called them because they offered custom sized replacement windows. A young man showed up on time and sat with my husband and I discussing what we wanted. Were were looking to replace nine normal sized windows, he also looked at the windows and measured them. He then proceeded to work out the cost and told me it would be 16,975.00. I looked at him and told him there was no way I was paying that kind of money for nine windows. He then told me they had just had a special that just ended and he would give me that pricing and then brought the cost down to around 12,000.00, to which I replied..no that was still too much. He then asked if I would be willing to put a sign on my property advertising Anderson, I asked for how long and he said about three weeks, he also asked if I would sign a testimonial. He then called his manager and spoke with him and told me they could do the job for around 10,000.00. At that point I thanked him for his time but told him I would not be buying windows from him. I said if I agreed to your original price I would be paying 16, 975.00 for windows you are now offering me for 10,000.00, that's a big difference and I have to wonder exactly what these windows are really worth. He told me the price would only be good till the end of the day and if I changed my mind I could call and he would come back with a contract. He left and I went out to run errands, when I came back my husband told me he had called and said they could do the job for around 9,000.00. I said no, I was not comfortable doing business with this company. Two days later I received a call from a Customer Service representative asking about my experience and I proceeded to tell him about my "experience". He agreed the price seemed high for nine windows, said he understood my feeling uncomfortable and that this was not how they wanted to be represented. He apologized and said he would speak to the young mans manager. I heard nothing more from them and have since had the work done by another company. As with anything being done in your home, have some idea of the approx cost, when doing work and be comfortable with your choice.

We contacted Renewal by Andersen as we knew the quality of the windows. We requested a quote and made an appointment for a sales person to come by. As other reviewers mentioned, the sales presentation is a bit lengthy and bit over the top. We privately had a chuckle over a scripted theatrical portion. That being said, our sales person was likeable, enthusiastic and thorough. The presentation covers every single point, so it takes just rolling with it. As a positive note, the presentation is an indication that this company follows a formula and the formula works. We knew what we were buying, when and how it would happen and who would be doing what. The installation person came out to measure the windows. He was pleasant, professional and answered a few questions about how the windows would be installed. Customer service called to schedule the installation date. The installers arrived on the date scheduled and completed the work. The windows look great and the process was seamless. I would absolutely use this company again.

Perfect from removal of old windows to providing perfectly matched windows to the rest of our home A+++++
Description of Work: Totally removed old replacement windows and replaced them with their superior product. Not a speck of dust or debris in our home. Total matching and installation to the outside siding. Complete regard to our home both inside and out. At first I thought that the cost was high but when we found out how much similar stock Anderson Windows would cost and their installation by other vendors the cost not only was in line it was less expensive. No renovation to the three bedrooms, no replacement of window treatments .... add these extras add up and doing it by anyone other than Anderson direct was $2000.00 more than what we paid. In short this is a professional company with white glove treatment all around 1 out of 10 rating where 10 is the best.... I would give them an 11 Edward Teran Woodmere, New York

Overall, I am offended that they seem to think they know more about my marriage then I do. I understand them encouraging both husband and wife to be present, but to require it is ridiculous. I'm sure we are not the only couple that believes in division of labor, we don't make all decisions together.
Description of Work: Called to set up an appointment to replace sliding doors and picture windows on back of the house. We want to replace with exactly what we have in terms of design, there are no big decisions to make. They refused to set up an appointment without my husband present. My husband works very long hours and wants me to handle this process, he has no interest in participating during his limited free time. I explained this and they would not give me an appointment. Guess I'll be calling the next company on angie's list.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your comments about your experience with RBA Long Island. We would like to sincerely apologize that we were unable to schedule a consultation with you and your husband, and would like you to know that it has nothing to do with our confidence in you. Unfortunately, we have had some negative instances in the past that have led us to only do consultations with all homeowners present. We are committed to meeting and exceeding all of our customers’ expectations, and we want to ensure that all homeowners are aware of the products and services they will receive when they choose Renewal by Andersen. We would really like the opportunity to see if there is any way we can turn things around for you. If you are still looking to replace your windows, please email me at RBALongIsland@gmail.com and I will personally ensure that one our consultants is available to work around your schedule and provide you with a consultation, whether it be on a weeknight, weekend, or whatever works best for you. Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you.

Our overall experience was excellent but we do have two matters that need comment First, we must complement RBA Long Island on punctuality, product availability and quality of installation. We were able to easily set up an appointment for a sales representative to come to our home. He was very knowledgeable and thorough. Our only complaint is the same as many of the other reviewers. The sales pitch is a little over the top. We appreciated the quality of the product; which is why we both researched it and bought it and it just wasn't necessary for the sales rep to overdo the presentation or to overdo the criticisms of competing products. The measuring was done within a few days and the windows were ready for installation in less than two weeks. I cannot say enough about the SUPERB installation process. The installers, Tom and Javier, were amazing. They were punctual, professional and (a rarety in the contracting business) CLEAN. Absolutely nothing in or around our home was damaged, made dirty or touched in the least. They responded to any questions I had about both the product and the process. Their work was five star, and even that term does not do them justice. There were a couple minor things that needed correction or touch up and a service person came at my earliest convenience and took care of them to our full satisfaction. Our only real complaint, which leads to a suggestion for the future, is about colors, when anything other than white is ordered. We decided to order the windows with white on the outside and canvas color on the inside. The sales rep only had photos of the colors, not physical samples. We understood that photos don't do real justice to the true color. But the color was MUCH lighter than the photo--not just a little off. It would have been far more helpful if the sales rep had been given physical samples using the actual window frame material. Since only a few colors are available this would not have been burdensome to anyone. If we had seen the color "in the flesh" we probably would not have ordered it (and paid the extra price for it).

It started with a salesman from the company ringing the front door bell and making a pitch to my husband. He made arrangements for a representative to meet with us the following week. We badly needed new windows so we were willing to listen to what he had to say. We had planned to make similar arrangements with other window companies and then compare their products and prices before making any decisions. The gentleman arrived on time, hauling an actual display window and other materials with him. He spent almost 3 hours with us giving us a complete rundown of the product and what we could expect from it. We knew Andersen windows had a good reputation and after checking them (Renewal by Andersen of Long Island) out with the Better Business Bureau and reading the reviews on Angie's List we felt confident they would do a good job. But what really sold us was the product itself and I really liked the fact that each window was custom made for the window opening. So we signed the contract that day . Three weeks later, the crew showed up, as planned, and set to work. We were originally told the job would take 2 and a half to 3 days. They worked till almost 7 pm the second day and finished the job. They worked in such a professional way, cleaning up as they went, there was never a mess anywhere. We were amazed at how the new windows made the street noise vanish! The windows look absolutely beautiful and the crew was great, responsive to our every concern.

Overall a great experience. Yes it is true that the windows will cost a bit more, but this is an investment. Everyone I interacted with was extremely professional and the process from start to finish was always pleasant. The installers are all world-class. Ironically, as much as I love the company, they've now worked themself out of a customer (all my windows have been replaced). The best in the business.

I know that they are a great window but I had a death in the family so I told them to leave me alone and I’d call when I was ready. They were insistent and constantly called; it was seven times a day seven times a week. You can’t even believe how much they call. They even call on Sundays. I was so turned off by them that I refuse to use them. They are still bothering me. I had signed up to have come out do evaluate my windows and see where I was losing energy. The people that came to the house were very nice but the windows cost about double what I paid with another company.

I had an eight foot frenchwood slider installed today by RBA Long Island, which replaced a drafty set of four single glazed swinging french doors. The installers did a very nice job. They went the distance to make things right, and matched the existing trim perfectly. The finished door looks great, and I’m looking forward to an air tight winter. RBA personnel were professional and accommodating from the beginning (though the initial sales pitch was bit high pressure). They addressed all my concerns. Everything was done on schedule and , as far as I can tell, done right. RBA lived up to its excellent reputation.

My husband and I recently moved into our home. It is a mid-century ranch. The previous owner replaced some of the windows, mostly in the back of the house, but the windows in front were original, not in good working order and not energy efficient. We decided one of the first improvements we would make would be new windows. I contacted Renewal by Andersen (RBA) because I know that Andersen makes good windows. My father had replaced several windows in our home while I was growing up, and he always used Andersen. My husband and I are not as handy as dad, so we thought we would benefit from having the windows installed by pros, and the replacement aspect was appealing, since they custom make the windows to fit the existing opening, rather than putting in a standard-sized window and making the house fit around it. I was a little surprised to learn when I made the appointment that both my husband and I had to be present, and that we needed to give up close to 2 hours of our time. Decided to go ahead with the appointment anyway. The RBA salesman came to our house right on time, and the appointment did last a couple of hours. They have a sales pitch that they need to give. I found the sales pitch to be a bit heavy handed, although the salesman was really very nice. As I mentioned before, I knew the quality and good reputation of the Andersen name, and was willing to go with them, even without the heavy sales pitch. The salesman knew windows and made suggestions for our particular needs. He took preliminary measurements, explaining that another RBA employee would come at a later date to take more exact measurements (which he did). The installation day arrived, and the installers easily removed and replaced all the windows. It took them about 6 hours. When they were done, they took the old windows and cleaned up all the debris and left me with beautiful windows. I could not be happier. The oak woodwork they installed around the living room window is gorgeous. The other windows are resin, but the bay window is all wood. I have heard terrible stories about other people having their windows replaced (not by Andersen), and I know that I am not going to be among them. To be sure, Andersen windows are not cheap, but we made the right choice by choosing them.
Description of Work: We needed to have seven windows in our home replaced, including a large bow window in the living room. The existing windows were original to the house (over 50 years old).

It is wonderful to hear that you could not be happier with your beautiful new windows, and that your installation went smoothly. We know you mentioned the sales process may have been a bit ‘heavy handed’, and we do want to apologize – our sales representatives are quite passionate about our product and at times they may be a bit overzealous. There were numerous steps in the process: A Salesperson came to show us all the options, colors etc. then a person came to measure. After measuring it took a few weeks for the windows to be finished. There was some confusion early on, on the inside/outside color availability for door and windows at the beginning, as our first choice was not available for what we wanted, and the choices for replacement windows and the door were not the same. The installation job was done in 2 days, one long day for all the windows, and a shorter one for the door at a later point. The work crew appeared to be clean, covered furniture and vacuumed the work site. Later, after they had left I discovered various places where the insulation foam had leaked and attached itself: one area behind the radiator came off easily and was cleaned quickly. The more annoying place was more mysterious: in a cabinet away from their work site, two complete sets of bed sheets were glued together with expanding insulation foam of the exact color as was used by Anderson. The foreman installing the door denied that it could have been caused by them as the consistency of the dried foam was NOT exactly like the special one they used (softer). How else the foam could have gotten there at that point in time is a complete mystery to me. The sheets had to be replaced, but compared to the total cost of the windows, the loss was relatively minimal. It was disappointing though that the company would deny any claim... which I did not pursue any further. The windows themselves are excellent! 15 years ago we had gotten cheap replacement windows which were falling apart, were fogging up inside, and had gotten impossible to open or close. We noticed a BIG difference in retaining the heat - even though the old ones were dual pane windows as well. We were able to take the $1500 Tax credit for energy conserving measures in the 2010 tax year. The sales person had promised to check up on the job when it was installed, but he never showed and we never heard from him again.
Description of Work: replaced all windows in house, replaced one window with a glass door, and insulated the openings.

GREAT!! Would definitely recommend them.
Description of Work: Replaced all of the 50 year old plus windows in my house with new Anderson replacement windows. The crew did a GREAT job, almost no damage (some was expected) to my 80 year-old window frames; only needed a minor paint touch up job after they were done. And I love my windows. The workmen were prompt, efficient and cleaned up each day.

The salesman came and spent at least 90 minutes with us and had operating samples of the window. Although we found the price of the replacement of the two windows ($2,500) quite high we chose Andersen because of the quality of the window. We had two horrible replacements there already. We placed the order about mid October 2010. An installer came to measure within a day or so and the windows were ready to be installed on November 3rd. Two men took the old windows out, very neatly. They were careful not to leave any sort of mess (used drop cloths). Within two hours the windows were in and the aluminum siding neatly matched to what we had. As I said, although higher in price than other replacements -- you get what you pay for and these windows will definitely keep the two rooms warmer in addition to getting a credit off our income tax this year.
Description of Work: We had two windows that needed replaced --not large just average size.

the 1st salesman came and did a super-drawn out presentation of 3+hrs. It was after 10PM when he left! A very hard sell which we could not stand. We explained that even though we liked the windows, we had appts with many vendors and would not make a decision that night despite him calling his mgr for "special" discounts. They were $14k and everyone else was at about $8k. We knew they were better windows but could not justify almost 2x the cost. We asked them to re-work the estimate to see if they could do any better and the 2nd salesman that came out said that was the best price even though he called his mgr. We said we were willing to spend $10k. When we said that i was too expensive and about to throw him out, he called his mgr again and got him down to $11k. I really hated this whole process and felt like i was dealing with a used car salesman. Once we got that done, the rest of the experience was wonderful. They measured and then a few weeks later came to install. They covered everything and cleaned up after themselves. The 3 guys that came were not subs and really knew what they were doing. There was a small problem with the crank on one of the windows and a supervisor came out the next day to investigate. We only did the 2nd fl but want to do the 2st next year. i just dread having to go though the sales tactics again.

I contacted Ansersen because of advertisements in Newsday. The salesman came to my home at the agreed upon date and time. He spent the usual amount of time promoting the company and the product. He had samples of the "unique" window materials to show. I was convinced that I wanted something better than the vinyl windows I had, so I went with their product. I did think the cost was high. But, at times you have to pay for a better product when no one else has anything similar. I originally wanted the same pattern of windows to fill the space; my wife had other ideas and after discussion I contacted the salesman by phone. He spent some time with me on the phone about the options and then proceeded to amend the order. He came the next day with the amended paperwork for my signature. The order took approximately 6 weeks for the windows to arrive at their warehouse. I was contacted when the windows were being shipped to schedule an installation date. On the day of installation two workmen brought and installed the new windows. They were careful to not destroy the landscaping (which was important as this is the front of the house). Indoors, they put down tarps throughout the area they would walk and work to protect the floor. They were courteous and heeded my concerns. There was little I had to do when they left. The fit and finish is excellent. The thermal resistance is excellent. The living room and bed room are warmer in the winter. My wife recommends their product to anyone who will listen. As a result a neighbor had Renewal by Andersen install their windows. The are very pleased with the product too.
Description of Work: Andersen removed old vinyl windows (that were less than 5 years old) and replaced them with double hung windows. For 4 of the windows in the living room the sill had to be installed and repositioned. This was because the previous install made the inside window frames flush with the wall. Now there is a standard window sill. For two bedroom windows there was no modification of the window frame work necessary. They installed new aluminum trim outside and replaced the existing inside trim that fit. The windows are double hung, high performance low E4 Sun glass. U-factor 0.29, SHGC 0.18 and visible transmittance 0.42. Full screen, grills between panes.

He was very nice and made a nice presentation for replacing four windows. He was very thorough and pointed out where some problems were in the current windows. He really took his time to measure correctly.

It went very well. The crew worked hard all day. The front of my house has cedar shakes and none of these were disturbed or destroyed. All of the old windows and debris were carted away as well, and the guys did a great job cleaning up, inside the house and outside of the house. Everything on the inside of the rooms where the windows were replaced was in perfect condition when the job was completed. Everything was cleanly executed and tightly sealed, a very professional job. One thing I would suggest, though, is if you get this type of work done cover everything inside the room with plastic sheets or tarps. A friend of mine recently had this type of work done and she suggested I do this and it made cleanup much easier. Dust does fly around because they are sawing through your walls to do the replacement, and obviously although the guys do vacuum your floors after they finish they don't dust your furniture for you! Overall a very good job and I would recommend them. The price is not exactly cheap but I feel that for the quality of the workmanship and the actual product (they are genuine Andersen windows, after all) I definitely got my money's worth and got what I paid for.
Description of Work: Had 12 windows replaced in house. One casement, two sliders, 7 double-hungs, and one large stationary glass pane window (w/two of the double-hungs on either side of it-- large living room window). The double-hungs I chose came with moulding around them that really updated the whole outside appearance of the house. The windows are beautiful, high quality, well insulated (double panes with argon gas in between) and very easy to clean and operate. The windows do qualify for the $1500.00 government rebate because they very energy efficient.
