The amount of work was small in comparison to the time necessary to complete the job. With ten foot ceilings in the entry way, replacing a drain pipe that ran across the ceiling was a back breaking job. The custom bracing that they built to handle the drain was both innovative and showed the degree of experience that both men brought to the job.
Description of Work: There was a leak in the return pipe from the upstairs bathroom sink. Mckenna's came out right away and replaced the drain. They had to make custom bracing in the ceiling of our entry way to insure that the new drain would work today and in the future. Both Jim and Gary showed experience and professionalism that all homeowneres want to have in craftsman who come into an older home (175 years) to work. They respected the woodwork of the entry way, cleaned up after they were finished and left us with repair that was better than the original installation.

Excellent and easy to deal with, no matter who you are talking to! For years, we've purchased parts here at better prices than the box stores. Last fall, we had them install a hot water tank, $300 less than their "Always Plumbing" competitor. So most recently when we needed replacement of bathroom sink parts that involved more work than we were willing to do, we thought to try McKenna for general plumbing work. I love being able to walk into the showroom, discuss the problem, then book my appointment. Service tech was on time, friendly, and professional.
Description of Work: Most recent job was replacing a bathroom sink popup that had corroded.

Extremely pleased, much car was taken to have all finishes and work done correctly and as required. Workman spent many consultations during the job to insure that choices made for installation were correct and as we wanted. Could not be happier with the bathroom, and the looks and finish.

We have had T. McKenna plumbing over for two service calls with the most recent being yesterday. This latest job involved changing a copper elbow in the toilet fill tube that had developed a pinhole leak. The last repair was replacing the pressure regulator that governs the whole house water pressure. Both repairs were completed on time. The company has a minimum repair time of 1 hour. For my latest job, he finished in under an hour so he asked to see what else he could do to fill-up his last 15 minutes of time so I could get my money's worth. I showed him a small project I had been working on in our downstairs bathroom that we are remodeling, and he fixed a small oops I did. All in all, I've very pleased with them and will certainly use them again in the future.
Description of Work: This most recent repair job from yesterday was to replace the copper elbow in the downstairs toilet fill tube. The repair from last May involved replacing the pressure regulator on the main water input line.

Terrible. In response to the reply from the company. You said you have no record of my contacting you? Here is my first communication I sent to you. This is from my messages right here on Angie's List. I have to say I did make one mistake in what I said before. I didn't put my cell phone number in my message. But like I said before I thought I had and I overlooked that and came to your showroom. I spoke to a woman who gave me an average cost of the size bathroom we have and I said I would like someone to come out to give us an estimate. So...no, I hadn't given you my number in my original email. You replied to me in an email so obviously, yes, I did take time to email you which you don't seem to have a record of now. You did email me which I trashed in my email because I don't plan on doing business with you. And I can promise I was in your showroom in Fairport. The woman I spoke to had dark hair. She greeted us when we walked in. We saw your bath displays, skipped the kitchens and took time to look through your tile samples toward the back of the building near your entrance/exit. I totally believe you don't normally do business this way but yes, you made a mistake this time and lost potential business because I have signed a contract to spend around 12k with another company. Provider CommunicationMessage Sent:Jan 02 2013 aP 06:21 PMMessage:I would like to get a quote on a bathroom remodel. We are looking to remove a bathtub and replace it with a shower. We plan on pulling up the tile on the floor and do the full room. The only thing that might stay is the toilet which was replaced about a year ago. Sent ToT McKenna Plumbing Inc
Description of Work: I came onto Angies List to find a contractor to redo our bathroom. I emailed several from here including McKenna. I asked all of them to call me on my cell phone. These guys just ignored my request and emailed me. I overlooked that and stopped into their showroom in Fairport. My wife and I looked around and spoke to a woman about getting an estimate. She took down my information and what we were looking for. She told us someone would be calling us the beginning of the week sometime (we went in on the weekend). Well, that was nearly two weeks ago and not one call from them! I took the time to email them with my cell number. I took the time to go into their showroom and give them my information again asking them to come out to give me an estimate.......no reply....no nothing. Therefore my 10 to 15k of business will be going elsewhere.

This is a very upsetting letter. We pride ourselves in making our customers very comfortable and happy with everything we do. Being an Angies List Super Service Award Winner, we have had the highest ranking grades that can be attained. We have absolutely no record of Member Emailing or leaving any information with us. We are known for getting back to people in a timely manor which is why this grade is completely out of the ordinary. Thank you for your time.

The worker did an excellent job, in a very small workspace. He did all of the work, from the electrical, to fan installation, to building out the bulkhead with wood, then drywall and plastering. I did the painting myself, as I was planning to paint the bathroom anyway, so that did save me a bit of money and time, as they didn't need to come back a second day. I ended up with a kitchen fan, as no bath fan would work in my application. Great job!
Description of Work: I needed a new bathroom vent fan, as my old one stopped working. The problem was, that my fan was about 60 years old and used to be on the exterior wall of the house, but had since had an addition put on that wall, with odd piping added to vent to the outside. It would need new electrical run and was not an easy installation. McKenna's came out and reviewed what was needed and advised me of the options I had. I basically had to have a bulkhead built, as the space where the old fan was wasn't usable. They also rewired the fan, so I no longer had the fan and main bath light on the same switch.

We had an excellent experience. The price was very reasonable, compared to that of other merchants. The worker arrived on time and was very knowledgeable and efficient. He installed the hot water heater, explained how to adjust the settings, and answered all of our questions. The entire process took about 2.5 hours. We were very pleased and would highly recommend this company.

We needed a new kitchen. After months of looking, getting ideas and quotes, on the advice of a neighbor (and happy customer) we went to McKenna's showroom in Winton plaza and talked to Jim. He came to the house, took preliminary measurements, gave us some good suggestions then went back and put the kitchen on a sophisticated cad system. After several meetings and a lot of good advice from Jim we were ready to start. Pete the project manager then came to the house, took final measurements and gave us more good ideas. The project was started on the time agreed upon. After all the cabinets and material were delivered to the site, Mike, (who did the tear out and the majority of the installation) started and finished the project. We needed new electrical work. Tom, a master electrician, did a great job.We needed new plumbing work. Mike the plumber, did a great job. We were very happy with the people and the work that was done by McKenna's. The results exceeded our expectations.Everyone involved with the project had many years of experience. They seemed eager to please us as customers. Mike, the main installer, did a super job and was a pleasure to have in our home.Thank you McKenna's. We would recommend your company to anyone.

On a Saturday afternoon in late April my wife and I wandered into the McKenna Kitchens & Bath in Winton Place. We met Joe and started discussions regarding the remodeling job. Joe took a great deal of time explaining the options, quality of his merchandise and capabilities to handle the job. The variety of floor displays and installations really help visualize the possibilities. Joe was very pleasant to work with , patient and knowledgeable. Over the course of a couple months, we worked with him to design a re-visioning of the kitchen. He was the most creative the designers we worked with and really came with the best design that captured the spirit of the house and our tastes. The 3D fully rendered presentation provided a great way to imagine the completed kitchen. We met several times and had great phone and email communications. Final price was proposal was competitive and complete. When it came time to make the final decision, it was a tough choice, but another team (contractor and cabinet designer) just seemed to have a slight edge presenting a seamless coordinated proposal. I would certainly recommend Joe and McKenna for the design services. We will certainly look to them to quote/design other projects.

This is the kind of company that leaves you wishing you had more projects for them to do. Everyone I dealt with was warm & friendly and professional. Initially I called for an estimate on a hot water heater and spoke with Dan who was very helpful and informative. He provided all the info I asked for and more and was not the least bothered when I told him I was only getting estimates at that time. When I called around for more estimates I found the prices fairly comparable but no other company came close to the warmth and friendliness of McKenna's. I called back about a month or so later to book an appointment for someone to replace my hot water heater and Dan remembered speaking to me before. My appointment was booked for less than a week later (this wasn't an emergency replacement) and the gentleman who did the installation was personable, professional, didn't leave a trace of anything behind - he was even great with my dog! Honestly, I cannot say enough wonderful things about this company. Do yourself a favor, just hire them and forget their competition, you won't be sorry.
Description of Work: Estimate: Dan was helpful, personable and very informative. He gave me very useful information that the other companies I spoke with didn't. Scheduling: Effortless. Since this wasn't an emergency replacement we easily worked out a day and time that was convenient for me. Installation: The gentleman who installed the hot water heater was on time, incredibly nice, respectful of my home and me and didn't leave anything behind. If it weren't for the shiny new hot water heater you'd never know he was there.

The work was beautifully done. The project took two full days. The plumber clearly cared immensely about both appearance and function. Because of the tiny space imvolved he exercised great care that there would be "elbow room" at the sink when the door was closed. He asked about the hights of potential users -- children, seniors -- when considering the height of the sink. He set the water flow so that children could not easily over-fill the tiny sink and splash the walls. And he was very careful about the plumbing beneath the sink which, like most plumbing in very old houses, is fully exposed. He wanted it to look good. I've had guests admire the plumbing!
Description of Work: Installed washbasin in small powder room. As this was a converted closet in a 100 year old house there was no existing plumbing, the work space was tiny, and the new plumbing had to be threaded through a maze of heating ducts in the basement. The cost includes purchase of a unique slender wall-hung sink and the appropriate hardware.

I had McKenna out to estimate remodeling my main bathroom as well as an adjacent bedroom and hallway. The bathroom remodel involved a complete gut down to the studs, relocating vanity & toilet, and replacing a tub with a tiled stand up shower. The bedroom was involved because the bathroom remodel called for removal of the bedroom closet which was taking up square footage better used for the bathroom. A new closet was to be built in another part of the bedroom as well as restructuring the hallway and bedroom entrance. It was a complicated job since it involved multiple rooms, moving plumbing, etc. I had the floorplan worked out on paper ahead of time and McKenna was actually the third contractor to bid the job so I'd been over it in detail twice previously. The McKenna estimate visit was a stark contrast to the other two. McKenna stayed for no more than 15 minutes whereas the other estimators were there for at least 90 minutes each. There are a *lot* of details in this job and it takes a while to go through them. McKenna seemed disinterested from the beginning. As I covered each aspect of the job they kept asking "Are we doing that?" ... and I kept responding that they should tell me! I explained I wanted them to bid the whole job but if there were parts they were not comfortable committing to they should say so and explicitly leave those out of the bid. Still they kept asking "Are we doing that??" at every step. The icing on the cake was that they didn't even want to see the plumbing from underneath. It's a split level house with a drop ceiling on the lower level so you can see all the plumbing of the bathroom in question by removing a few ceiling panels. I had done this ahead of time and the other estimators had been very interested in seeing it. McKenna insisted they didn't need to see it. Maybe that's true, but it seems silly to not want the information to make as accurate an estimate as possible! As soon as they left I already made up my mind that I would not hire them, regardless of what their quote ended up being. Had I hired them I know it would have been an unending series of surprises that they didn't expect. Maybe they would be good for a simple bathroom upgrade where you're just swapping out fixtures. I have the impression this job was much larger than they were prepared for.

We completely disagree with the member and his statements but obviously he has much more time than we do. I will say that my estimator waited in the member's driveway for 35 minutes as he was late, like every appointment he had made prior. The member had also stated that HE wanted to do some of the work himself so every aspect had to be questioned. Thank you

We called to get an estimate on how much it would cost to do the work described above. It took about 3 weeks following the in-home inspection for us to get the estimate - they originally stated we would get the estimate within 1 week. Their professionalism was a little lacking as the salesperson we worked with would tell us that he would give us an update on Thursday, which would instead become us calling him the following Monday. This happened a couple of times. Needless to say, I will not call them again.
