I picked this repair company from Angie' list.Even though I gave them the model number of the washer, they brought a white one instead of a black one as they should have. The tech was excellent and went out of his way to bring the correct on and reinstall it over the weeekend.

We went through two phases. The first, in July, was totally unsatisfactory. The reason was that a technician, Eric, came to look at the problem and left promising to call me regarding the availability of the necessary parts. I heard nothing after 9 days so I called. I was told there were no parts available. I asked to be given a price for replacing the entire unit. A week later I still hadn't heard from them. Then I got a call from a rep saying that they saw that they had an open ticket on me. I explained what had happened - or not happened - and said how very disappointed I was in their responsiveness. I was told they would send a different technician. From here on in, they performed admirably. The technician, C.J, showed up on 8/6 as promised and examined the two broken switches. He spent a long time at this but left saying he thought he could find parts that would do . He came back on 8/9 and, sure enough, he fixed everything. It took a lot of his time and a lot of patience but I'm happy to have a working hood again. The first guy is the reason the grades are as low as they are. If C.J. had come out first, they would have been very high. In any event, I give C.J. an "A" for persistence and creativity.

The technician is very bright and knows what he is doing. The prices are just outrageous. The repair cost almost 60 percent of the washing machine to fix a 3 year old washer.
Description of Work: This is the only company I have found to repair Miele products. I have had very bad luck before finding a repair service. The rubber cylinder in the washing machine broke. He fixed it and recommended I replace the part. The bill to replace the part was very high and I waited. My mistake but the total bill charged for two visits was over $600. Also during the second visit after he left I noticed the panel was cracked. I did not do this. They are coming back next week and will not charge me to look at it. I think they shoud fix this for free.

Repair of dishwasher. The technician, Philp, was pleasant, professional and punctual. He came back a second time at no charge when a hose clogged up within a week of the original repair. Very reasonably priced too. And a friendly dispatcher. I have called them to repair my fridge next.

Called for repair to my dishwasher - I knew it was a water flow problem because of the error code, and had already tried the "troubleshooting" from the owner guide. I was able to schedule a next day, Saturday afternoon appointment. Phillip arrived within the first hour of my 3 hour window and quickly identified the problem. He gave me a quote for the parts, time and risks of repair, and told me that a new dishwasher would be cheaper, and provide longevity that the other aging parts of this old model dishwasher wouldn't. He then told me which brands he likes, which to avoid and that here in Manhattan I could get a good deal on a new washer/delivery/install with a local provider (so he wasn't trying to jack up sales by claiming the repair would be too expensive). All in all I'm very pleased with the experience and would definitely call 5th Ave Appliance again.
Description of Work: My dishwasher was giving me an error code rather than running the full cycle - the error code identified it as a water flow problem but the troubleshooting didn't fix the issue. Phillip came and diagnosed the problem, quoted repairs as well as new dishwasher pricing.

The overall experience was excellent with the utmost professional workmanship, with the pricing to be one fair value.
Description of Work: I called Fifth Avenue Appliance in the morning and was given a time frame from 1 - 4. Promtly at 1:30 the technician Phillip arrived. Within minutes he diagnoised the problem and gave me a very fair estimate. He was back within 36 hours with the parts. My washer machine is in good working order. I would recommend Fifith Avenue Appliance to my friends and would call them again if I have trouble with any of my appliances.

Company accommodated me right away which I appreciated and serviceman arrived on time. He barely looked at the machine and told me he likely wasn't able to fix it. He opened the machine and then told me it would be $700 or more to fix and I was better off buying a new machine through his company. When I asked him to detail what the service would include he said he would have to take the machine out and lie it down in my kitchen to fix it which struck me as odd. He closed the machine up and lost one of the clips needed to secure it and failed to let me know. I called another company for a second opinion and they fixed on the spot for $150 with the machine standing right where it is. My machine is working beautifully now. This company gave me the wrong diagnosis for a quick fix and was interested in pressuring me into buying a new machine through them. BEWARE!

The heating element of one of our built-in ovens flamed out - just before the Christmas feeding frenzy. We needed to get the element replaced ASAP. I had called a company we've used before but they never got back to me. So I called Fifth Avenue. They checked to see the availability of the part, called me back within an hour and offered me two different times to come do the repair. Eric came as agreed and fixed the oven in a very short time. It's nice to have someone you can count on.

I gave 5th Avenue my washing machine model and error code over the phone and set up an appointment to have it fixed. The serviceman showed up and din't inspire a lot of confidence-- he had no idea what he was doing. He asked me what the error code was and what it signified. Then he tried turning on the washing machine a few times and decided it was damaged beyond repair. He told me that the thumping noise he heard was "a broken ball bearing in the transmission" and that it was "too expensive to replace." I asked him several times if this meant that the whole $900 washing machine (14 months old and 2 months out of warranty) needed to be replaced and he said yes. His method of diagnosing the problem was what my roommate called "clairvoyance."I then had a Maytag repairman come, who opened up the machine and pulled a ripped up pillow-case from between the rotating drum and the body of the machine. That was the cause of the thumping. I had purchased a $319 warranty from Maytag to get their serviceman to come out due to the insistence of the 5th ave repairman that it was not an easy fix. The machine now works fine.In addition, 5th avenue was very slow with my refund and required repeated contacts to follow-through with it. I'll never use them again.

Fifth Avenue was very prompt in sending a repairman when I first called; we arranged for the visit to occur later that week, on Veteran's Day, when my wife would be home from work. The repair window was initially scheduled for the afteroon, but the repairman called that morning and asked if he could come in the morning, which we agreed to. The initial visit determined that the heating element had failed and that he would need to order a replacement and come back the next week to install it. When I called the next week (after the scheduled arrival of the part) and asked to schedule the installation, they initially took a message, but then called me back later that afternoon to schedule the completion of the repair; they offered me a time as soon as two days later, although I chose a later date - the afternoon of the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, for which I figured I would come home from work early. I arrived at my office Wednesday morning, however, only to receive a message that the repairman had called and would be at our apartment for the repair within the hour. Luckily, I was able to go home and meet him, and the repair went smoothly - in addition to replacing the heating element, he cleaned out the various condensers and filters, and decided to tighten a loose doorknob on the bathroom as well! So overall, the only concern is that they changed both appointments - although on the early side in both cases. That caused a minor inconvenience (particularly the second time, when it was unannounced), but if you can live with that, I'd recommend using them.

My freezer wasn't freezing and my usually noisy refrigerator was silent. Thanksgiving was ahead (disaster without refrigerator and freezer!). After consulting Angie's List, I chose 5th Avenue Appliance. They scheduled me for service the next day. The repairman was overscheduled due to the holiday so he didn't come within the 3 hr. appointment time, but he was so nice and efficient when he came that it made up for the time delay. He determined that I needed a new timer--for my 30 yr. old refrigerator. And magically, there was exactly the part I needed in their warehouse! He was back the next day, installed the part in 15 minutes, the refrigerator started its usual humming and refrigerator and freezer have worked perfectly since. (Turkey was saved, as were leftovers.) The scheduling people were all very nice and helpful, and the serviceman was excellent, as well as being very caring, personable and easy to deal with. Because this company charges a $95 service charge as well as parts and labor, their pricing was different from some of the other service companies I spoke with who charged $125 for the service call, but deducted it from the cost of the repair work. Don't know whose final costs end up being higher, but whatever they are, I am very glad that I used 5th Avenue Appliance and recommend them highly.

Our refrigerator was too warm, though the freezer seemed OK. First diagnosis was dust clogging the air stream, and he cleaned it out. That didn't work. Next visit he determined the evaporator fan motor was bad. Replaced the motor but the old blade didn't fit well and made noise, which necessitated a third visit, at which he replaced the motor again with a new fan blade.Problem solved, but it took 3 visits. He was on time and professional at every visit, and didn't charge us for the last visit. But it seems like it could have been done in one, or MAYBE two visits (if he needed to wait for the proper part.)

This was a three ring circus for me and my wife. I had too take several afternoons off which did not make work place happy and coast me that salary, I had several weekends disrupted by waiting for repairmen and going to a laundromat and the claims in the yellow pages add for both Appliance Exerts and A-OK Appliance about same day service and other claimed services are totally without any substance or intent to perform as promised. as in the adds . I will not use either service again and if the washer/dryer breaks down again, it is worth my time, effort and money to buy a replacement, regardless of if it can be repaired or not. The rul eof humb is that when a major repirs reach %50 of a replacement, go for a replacement as it is more cost effective in the long run. I checked appliance websites for prices and MRSP for several ran about $1,300 +- new. My costs between the two bills came close to $500 total and most llikley could be gotten on sale for somewhat less.
Description of Work: This is a continuation of the saga to have my GE stacking washer.dryer repaired. After the supposed "repair" my wife and noticed it was running hotter than it should. So we thought that perhaps because it may have been out of order when we bought our condo, we what we assumed this was the normal operating temperature. However, when cloths came out so hot as to have a danger of burning one's fingers and the plastic parts in the dryer drum were softening, we knew something was wrong. What it was - a wrong part, not fixed right - we did not know. I called A-Oh Appliance late Saturday evening. the 24th. They called my at work and said they would have a repairman here 1-4 P. M. on 9/28/11. I take of from work, and my boss was not happy about it for the third time with A-OK, When I got home, there was a message that the part was on order and that the repairman would be here 9/28/11. I called A-OK and let them know in no uncertain terms that I was not happy. I moved the repairman to 9/301// at 1-4 P. M. because I was taking the day off for anther reason. Needless to say, if they ask for payment, I will not pay as I am NOT a happy customer and if they make an issue, I will forward a complaint to our county consumer protection department! The repairman was to arrive between 1-4 P. M. on Friday, Sept. 30th. When 4 P. M. arrived I called the office, A man, presumably the owner or crew boss, answered and said he would call the repairman to call me as to when he would arrive, He never called and arrive slightly past 5:30 P. M I was not charged for labor, although I would NOT have paid and if A-OK was going to make an issue of it, I was ready to file complaint with my county consumer protection office, and I still may do so. The $60 was for yet another part, which I an sure was overpriced.

I had an excellent experience with 5th Avenue. The repairman, Frank, was cheerful and very professional. He fixed the problem with the drawer and gave me many helpful hints on how to care for the appliance and how to do required tasks, e.g., how to replace freezer drawers after I had removed them. It turns out that the service light continues to blink because "the computer" that runs this thing must be re-set (just like a desktop). Once Frank worked with me to isolate the circuit breaker and we re-set it, the problem was resolved. The price was very fair and I have already recommended their services to a friend. I would not hesitate to use them in the future.
