We had another company service this same unit twice a couple of years ago and they never got it right. The former company made it seem like the problems were un-fixable even though the unit was under warranty. What really stung was we paid nearly twice what we paid to this company, and the repair was not complete. The tech who came, promptly on the day and time for the appointment, was fantastic. CJ was his name and he was outstanding. He knew his stuff, diagnosed the problems, ordered the parts and was incredible. A real professional who could take apart the stove and put it back together blindfolded. Our stove is like the day it was delivered. CJ transformed a $6,000.00 hunk of scrap metal back into a professional grade unit. Could not be happier. Thank you CJ! Thanks Angies List and 5th Avenue Appliance, you will have our business in the future (but we won't need it for the stove)!

.Overall the experience is ok. not as good as I thought. The price is simply too expensive for this type of work. why i gave a B to the experience: 5. No alternatives offered. he did not think on behalf a customer. if I know it would cost me $200 to repair this and my driver was too old, i may well just replace it. 1. no breakdown of prices. i had to ask how he came up with the final price and what part was labor and what part was parts and where my discount was. 2. No sense of service mindset: lint was cleaned out and pipe was changed, and he just left them there and did not bother to clean them. wore shoes over my carpet. 3. I asked him to check the leaks. he said it was ok as he did not smell anything. maybe he was too experienced to "smell" it. would it be better to brush some soap water and see leakages? 4. Maybe it was his style... but I was not very comfortable with his troubleshooting "techniques", if there is any.No visibility of what he did and why he did it. I asked him to change the exhaustion pipe and he did it. And it seemed to have fixed the problem..am I the expert or what? 5. No alternatives offered. he did not think on behalf a customer. if I know it would cost me $200 to repair this and my driver was too old, i may well just replace it. I suggest you do it yourself if your dryer takes too long to dry. If your dryer is too old, you may want to just replace it. this does not worh it.

I had used 5th Avenue a few years ago, when I lived in Greenwich Village. They fixed my stove and washer dryer and I was very satisfied with the service provided. I moved to UES and during the heat wave of early July my air conditioners were not working to cool my apartment. I remembered my experience with 5th Avenue and called them for help. They were as good as I remembered. From the initial phone call, through work performed on the a/c, all was handled professionally and honestly. The same technician who had worked on my stove downtown came for the a/c service call. I hadn't requested this but was very pleased to see a familiar face. The units in my apartment were old and I knew they might have to be replaced. Everything was taken care of for me through 5th Avenue and the service was so great that I had them come back and replace the living room unit. So, to sum up, during a bad heat wave 5th Avenue solved my A/C problems by showing up on time, knowing what they were doing and completing the job for a competitive price. I will always call 5th Avenue to service my appliances and I'm recommending this company to friends and family.

Excellent service. I gave description of problem over phone when setting up appointment and from this description the service technician, Frank, correctly determined the problem and came on site with the correct part, installed it on the spot. In two previous calls for the same lemon of a gas range, Phil diagnosed a problem he said was a design defect, orderedd and installed the electronic control box, and honored the warranty when that part failed in less than 6 months. Both service technicians really know the appliance.

It didn't, I refused the service, ordered the parts on line, which by the way cost less that half what the guy from 5th Avenue quoted, and did the repair myself. The guy asked me to pay the $65 dollars and charged me tax so I got nothing for the $69.
Description of Work: Guy came in told me I needed knobs and a panel for my dryer, quoted me a price with parts and labor over $300.

Response from 5th Ave Appliance
For $65 our company diagnosed the problem with the dryer, inwhich the customer was now able to order his own parts to do it himself, which is ofcourse cheaper than paying labor to have someone else do the work.

The repairman from Fifth Ave., Maurice, was professional and skilled. The problem with my washing machine was hard to diagnose and the initial repair didn't work. in fact, additional problems arose. Maurice explained everything clearly and returned two more times to fix the machine without charging me again. While my machine was out of commission for longer than I would have liked, I am happy that it is repaired properly and that I got a fair deal on the repair. I am very happy with the experience.

After 3 years of home ownership I had my first major appliance issue. I found a coupon and good reviews for this company on Angie's list so I gave them a try. Both times I needed to call, the people I spoke to were friendly and helpful. A service repairman arrived well within the window of time I was given for both service calls. He initially thought the freon was low, but 2 days later the problem was back. He came out a second time and determined it was an electrical issue that would cost more to fix than it was worth. I had paid $230 for the initial visit. He refunded all but the $95.00 service call charge when he determined it could not be fixed. I thought the initial $230 seemed a little high, but not exorbitant--also, I admittedly have nothing to compare it to. I was thrilled to be refunded the difference without even needing to ask. I would definitely use them again.

Well, my dishwasher is not a dishwasher. It is The Appliance of the Gods--AppGod for short. For the last 10 months I've been washing on Pots and Pans only, so I knew it was time to get it serviced. Then I started to notice that water was distributed less and less to the top rack. There was nothing that was visibly clogging the drain, so it was time to call in the professionals. I called 5th Avenue Appliance after seeing good reviews on Angie's List. Phillip arrived right within the window of arrival that I was given, assessed the situation and commenced with surgery. The inner filter was dirty and the part of it that grinds up bits and pieces of food was clogged with some lemon seeds and the blades bent by an errant safety pin. He replaced the part, tested the results and all was working fine. The part is warranted for three months, I paid, and all was done. Very professiona, pleasant, and the expertise is much appreciated. Dishwashing is, once again, a heavenly experience.
Description of Work: Took apart the filters in my dishwasher, in the internal filter he found the usual detritus, some lemon seeds, and a safety pin! The safety pin bent the blades on a part of that internal filter, so it was replaced.

I highly recommend this company. Even though it took them several visits to repair my freezer, I don't fault them as it appears to have been a complicated problem, compounded by an initial incorrect diagnosis by the first repair person (who was subsequently let go by the company). When Frank took over, he managed to get to the root of the problem. He had to make several trips because he tried a few different tactics based on different assumptions about what the problem was. He finally figured it out and the freezer has been fine ever since. We were on the verge of buying a new fridge - a very expensive solution - but ended up only having to pay about $300 despite the many visits. Thank you fifth avenue appliance, and Frank in particular.e machine
Description of Work: I can't remember all of the exact details (since the service was performed awhile ago) but the problem was that the ice in the ice maker was melting and dripping down into main compartment of the freezer, creating icicles everywhere. The thermostat had to be replaced and there might have been another part as well.

My oven was fixed on the 3rd visit. Unfortunately I had to pay 2 service fees. The first time (April 2012) a technician came and the F34 error code did not appear, so he left. The problem continued sporadically and he came back in July. Again, the problem could not be replicated and the company waived the service fee, which I appreciated. The F34 code kept coming back and so I called yet again and asked for the oven to be fixed. Another technician came, who seemed to really know what he was doing but the oven wasn't fixed this time either. I got a call from the company telling me they called Thermador, who didn't know anything about the F34 error code. I suggested they look on the internet, which they did and, like me, found the connection to a malfunctioning fan. I called them back to arrange for this final visit, thankfully with Doran, who has a lovely manner and really seems to know this oven, which few other companies seem to want to deal with. I expect this is the end of the saga. I am glad the repair is done. It was expensive, but I assume this comes with the Thermador territory.

A wonderful experience from start to finish. I found the company name on Angie's List, and the overwhelmingly positive reviews were spot on. Very friendly telephone service, they were able to send a technician out the next day (on a Saturday, post-hurricane). The tech was friendly, courteous, explained everything he was doing as he diagnosed and made the repair. The prices were very reasonable. I even received a follow-up courtesy call the next day to confirm that the appliance was working correctly and that I was satisfied with the service I had received. The answer to both was a very resounding YES. I would not hesitate in the least to use this company again and recommend them without reservation.

Nothing but praise for my experience with this company. My refrigerator was not cooling properly. I called this company on a Saturday morning at 8:15 AM and gave them a brief description of the problem I was having, the make of my refrigerator, my address, etc. They promised to have someone at my home to look at the problem between 9 AM and 12 PM and they were true to their word. A courteous and highly professional repair person arrived at 10 AM and diagnosed the problem - a timer that was old and worn out and in need of replacement - within five minutes. He had the replacement timer with him and made the repair quickly. Total time of visit was just over an hour. I am not sure what more a customer could ask for than highly competent (they fixed the problem) repair service delivered same-day by a very professional representative. This company would certainly be the first one I would call if I should have any appliance problems in the future. I'm giving the price a "B" because I honestly have no idea what the going rate is for parts/labor in my situation. It seemed reasonable.
