+ -1 moreJamie (service technician) was very professional and knowledgeable. He worked steadily for 2 hours once the leak was located to fix it. He removed the toilet, cut out closet shoe and section of copper drain line and replaced it with pvc and copper. He reset the toilet and checked for leaks. He cleaned up after himself and also wore booties during the entire job so as not to carry dirt through our house. He was very personable. Would definitely recommend him.

+ 0 moreIt would have been better if the guy had just admitted off the bat that he did not know how to do the job. Instead, I had to explain the way the product worked and how it was hooked up. I would have done it all myself but I thought calling PP would be quicker and leave no room for error. It took ages but eventually it was installed. I paid for more time than was necessary had it been done by a knowledgable technician.

+ -1 moreWas told to remove siding and insulation from outside of house so he could get to where he thought leak was. He never mention installing a studer vent inside and said he did not think rerouting drain pipe to basement was the right way to go. Said job would take all day. I had another plumber come and do the job in one hour and never had to go from the outside. He installed a vent and rerouted pvc drain and retied into copper to basement. I saved a lot of money going with someone else! My cost was $250.00 with Ron's Plumbing!!

Anthony came out the same day I contacted them, gave us two options of dealing with the pipe, and we were scheduled just two days later.(A "bandaid" was put on for the interim) Anthony then showed up on time and went about the job in a professional fashion. He was personable and very thorough in his explanations of the job. The area was clean before he left and everything put to rights. It's easy to see why Penfield Plumbing got such great ratings from the folks on Angie's List! The quote was extremely fair given the amount of work needed to complete the job. He was fast and knowledgeable. And was very pleasant to boot. Brandon went above and beyond. + -1 moreThe tech showed up on time, installed the requested shutoff, and then started on the camera work to see if we could find the reason one of my underground gutter drains would overflow in heavy rain. He ran the camera down the tile and kept coming up to some sort of obstacle. After noting a cleanout in the sidewalk, and after trying a different drain, he told me that I must have a trap in the drain tiles and he wouldn't do any more because he figured he'd get his camera caught....so basically, no answer (a previous plumber with no camera said it was probably roots in the tile, but could have been a broken tile, which is why I wanted the camera). . One of the requested tasks was to replace the outside faucet for which the new indoor shutoff was installed....for this, he left me an estimate for a return visit instead of doing the job. . In short, it was a wholly unsatisfactory experience...$300 for a ball valve installation, an excuse, and an estimate to complete the work he was there to do in the first place. On the good side, the shutoff valve he installed DOES work.

+ -1 moreThe supply line to our refrigerator sprung a leak, and we called in an appliance service to fix the problem. Once he saw the poor condition of the saddle valve that connected the refrigerator line to the main pipe, the appliance tech recommended we call in a plumber. Penfield Plumbing was able to send a plumber the next day- they originally asked to schedule us for the end of the week, but were able to schedule us earlier upon request. Robert (the plumber) met me at our house right in the middle of the 3:00-5:00 time window we were given. He was able to quickly assess the situation and understood exactly what we wanted and needed. He replaced the faulty saddle valve with a much more reliable ball valve, slightly enlarged the whole in the floor through which the supply tube passed to give it clearance from the sharp tile, and replaced the old leaking tube with a sturdier tube. All of this was done in just over an hour. Throughout the job Robert was pleasant, personable and focused. I will definitely be calling Penfield Plumbing next time we have a plumbing need.

He arrives when they set him up to meet the service call. The work is done quickly and efficiently and he cleans up beautifully. He is a straight talker and he tells me what he's going to do and what he could do. He also tells me what may be could be saved until another time when it's a little more affordable or manageable financially. I feel like I'm getting very good advice when I have him come by.

+ 0 moreThis was the second time we used Penfield plumbing. Our old heater started to leak, so I called for a replacement. The price they offered was reasonable, especially considering the amount of work required. However, we had a water hammer issue after the installation every time we used the hot water that required a second trip out to repair it. This repair was done when they installed the condensation drain for the water heater. In addition, they didn't clean up the area after they installed the outside vent. Both are fairly minor faults, but I feel that an A- would be a more appropriate grade. Would I use them again? Sure. They were punctual, professional, and did quality work.

+ 0 moreI called at 8:15 am and the call was received after only a few seconds on hold. I told the person on the phone the problem and the make and model of my water heater. She asked my availability and I said I had to take my son to school but would be back at 9:45. She set a window of between 10-12. The technician arrived at about 10:10. He immediately presented me with his business card and introduced himself as Elliott Voleshen. On the way to the basement he asked me to explain the problem and by the time we got to the water heater he had repeated the problem back and a possible explanation. He did a quick inspection of the water heater and confirmed the issue, based on both the error code on the controller and his knowledge of my brand. He said he had the part in the truck and gave me an approximate cost. He then checked the serial number and tried to determine the install date to see if there was any possibility of it being covered by warranty. Unfortunately it was not, but I appreciated him checking. Also, based on the age of the tank he discussed the option to replace the whole thing to get back within a warranty period and what the risks were given the age. Again, I appreciated him making me aware but I elected to go ahead with the repair. He then went to the truck to confirm the part was there as he had though, which it was, and got the exact price. He then efficiently made the repair, prepared the paperwork, collected the check and went to leave. I told him how much I appreciated the quick response and great service and that I would be giving him and Penfield Plumbing a very good review on Angie's List. Which made him stop and tell me that there was a coupon for the repair on the site and if I wanted to print it out he would be happy to re-do the paperwork reflecting the coupon. He absolutely did not have to do that as I would have never known about the coupon. All-in-all one of the best experiences I have had with a service or repair person. Great job Penfield Plumbing!

+ -1 moreThe quote appointment was to be with Brandon between 12 and 2:00. David showed up right at 2:00 on the dot. We are very punctual people and suggested a courtesy call should have been made to say he would be late. He explained he was called in at last minute to replace Brandon. We made arrangements for the work. Marsha called the next day to schedule the installation for the following day between 10 and 12. At 10:30, David called to say he was being held up an another job and would be here around 11:30. David showed up right on time, accomplished both installations and cleanup within 2 hours and was gone. Within 3 days we had new toilets. Very professional, knowledgeable, pleasant fellow. This was our first time using Penfield Plumbing, but would certainly recommend them from this experience.

+ 1 moreSo Elliott replaced/upgraded the 50 gallon water heater and the expansion tank. He also upgraded the B-Vent to a 4" diameter, from the old 3" ; the new standard.Added the connecting flue venting. He provided and installed a new pressure regulator and also a whole new sump pump. Along with a discount from the Penfield Plumbing site on Angie's List, the total for all parts and service, including the automatic 6 year warranty on the new water heater, came to $1690. And now we feel SO SECURE... knowing that all has been updated -- BEFORE a catastrophe. ELLIOTT included extra professional touches along the way, including independent shut off valves for the tank to easily be turned off in the future, if needed, without having to turn off the water main to the house. Plus he was fast , smooth, and efficient. And made no messes! I appreciate everything I learned today as well! Some people are good at fixing things, but they don't necessarily know how to explain and demonstrate how things work and how you can get more life out of what you buy. I love that we took care of business before it got worse, that we now know what we are working with, and that we got such good quality components and service for our money.
Description of Work: After 20 years and no water problems, it was simply time... we needed a new water heater. Penfield Plumbing had checked the unit two years before and had assured us we could get more time out of the unit if we wanted to, by doing a few little tricks they showed us. It had worked, but now the water on the floor heralded a new and updated water heater. I emailed an alert to them that Sunday night so they would be prepare for our call early Mon. morning. They were! And they told us ELLIOTT would be over by 10am. He was. He didn't just bring a unit and install it... he first checked everything out. His questions (and mine to him) indicated some other issues that could be a problem in short order too, and since we travel a lot, I wanted it all taken care of at once. ELLIOTT clearly indicated how long things could still last; he was clearly not out to 'sell' us. But I want to be sold when it comes to the situation where an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I never wanted to come home from a trip and find water all over the basement. So I wanted him to install a new sump pump as well. The new ones are much more efficient, and 20 years was enough to ask from the old one. ELLIOTT's thorough check did not include just the water heater, but also the Expansion Tank, where overflow from the water heater could be captured; but this tank should never be full. Ours was filled to maximum capacity! This told him he had to check the Pressure Regulator, something that controls the pressure for the water flow in the whole house. Living in the high pressure old zone we do, this pressure had clearly been high for a long time! If a healthy range was from 25 to 50 with a max of 75, ours was at 175!!! No wonder every time we turned on the kitchen sink it burst water into the sink. We should have thought to present that info sooner, but we were simply unaware of the links in the whole water story. This is where ELLIOTT excels -- he not only cares about your situation but he knows HOW to explain it , so you understand it. And at no time did he try to make a sale on each piece of the story; it was I who wanted to replace all the old stuff at once, before we could have a mess on our hands.

I had 3 repairs on my list: the toilet that never stopped running, the outside faucet that never stopped running, and the bathtub faucet that never stopped running. My water bill was outrageous! He fixed the toilet and offered an inexpensive alternative for the outside faucet, more within my means. He also offered a much cheaper alternative for the bathtub - he even called Delta for me and ordered the missing parts! Elliott was wonderful!

Once in July and a different toilet acted up and we have not come out and that was middle of October. It was like $250 maybe. They were friendly, professional, quick to respond, came out the next day. Overall, they are professional.

+ -1 moreWe had a leak in our cold water line going up to the second floor bathroom somewhere between the basement and the 2nd floor. I called Penfield Plumbing late last week, and John came out on Monday to assess the situation. He diagnosed the problem, told me what he would do to fix it, gave me a quote, and told me a couple things I could do before they performed the work to save a couple bucks. Today he came back out to fix the problem and it went extremely smooth. John had the work done in an hour and a half and managed to teach me a lot about the work he was doing and the materials used. I will definitely be calling Penfield Plumbing again next time I have any plumbing issues I am uncomfortable tackling myself.

+ -1 moreI scheduled an estimate appointment with them and they were punctual, polite, listened to my requests and gave me a detailed estimate. We set up an appointment to get the work completed and the work was done to my expectation. The plumber took time to explain what he did and he showed me how to adjust the water pressure reduced valve to get higher or lower water pressure. My wife, and therefore I, was very happy with the results.
Description of Work: They replaced my two outside faucets and brought them up to code so there's no chance of water freezing in the winter time, replaced my basement washtub faucet, which included installing new shut off valves for the hot and cold water feeds, and installed a new water pressure reducer valve to get rid of the hammering noise which ocurred when we shut off our water at any faucet.
