It was a total rip off. It seemed to us that the company just goes for the service fee and hope they find suckers that might fall for the exorbitant pricing. He wanted to charge $299 to snake a drain in the tub and $299 additional to snake a drain in the same bathroom....the sink. In both cases the water was going down just not fast enough and he was trying to sell us some liquid to pour down, but only after the snaking. The liquid would take months to work!.....yea ok! He charged a ridiculous amount to fix the toilet...inner workings and said another toilet had to be replaced at some crazy number. I paid the service charge and told him that I would not be using his services. He was not willing to discount anything even if we did the entire job that he was recommending and would come to thousands! I called another plumber that was a doll on the phone. He does not snake drains, but referred me to someone he works with that he uses all the time and said he would be able to work on the toilets for a mere fraction of Benjamin Franklin's price. The gentlemen that he recommended to snake came the next day and told me it would be $195. for the tub and the sink was small so he would include that. Now we're talking - a reasonable person who would get a nice tip. He ended up removing the hair from the tub (no need to snake) and snaked the sink drain. It was perfect - he was neat, polite, and did a great job!
Description of Work: He came in and told us there was so much work to be performed. It was going to be expensive!

Description of Work: Needed an estimate for leaking pipes in my basement. After trying 5 other companies that did not come they were very punctual gave me the estimate very professional.

That was around November. The quote was high, that was why, that was a cost of like 4000 to 5000 dollars. He told me the quote was for a device that they would put in the boiler and then that was between 24 and 28 hundred dollars, and upstairs in the shower, he was going to do something else for another 26 something, something. It's about 5000. I think it was too high, I said my god, I said I don't have that type of money and he told me that I would, you know, that they would provide me with financing. I said I don't want to do some financing, it's a lot of money and I didn't want to do it through financing. He said well it's a little less. That's why I got the quote but I didn't do the job with them and the guy that came in I remember his name was Eric Torez and he is from Ben Franklin. I thought the two thousand dollars was for everything. When he told me that's about $5000 I told him that was too much and he was like da da da da da and I said no, it's too expensive. I do not believe he elaborated enough on the price because my understanding was that really everything, everything and then how much warranty?, 3 months warranty for 5000?, no no no no. I don't know, they're financing, see I'm retired, why should I go through financing and all that? No good, no good, I was not expecting to get that price, seriously I wasn't expecting to get that. Another person that came in did not check everything, all they did, they check upstairs, the shower and he told me what the problem was, he charged me much more amount, a much lower amount, but I said let me call another company to see. When he came in he went to the basement, checked my heating and everything. Then I say maybe one is connected to the other but when he tells me that this is going to be done and that's going to be this and then together, in fact it was about $5000 less. I said if anything I will do it with my credit card or cash in several week but I will not finance. He made me buy something, I bought something. I really didn't search the work that Benjamin Franklin has done to see how much reviews, so for that purpose I don't think giving a grade, I have not heard of them before, I see it looks like a B company but I really didn't check on the reviews. They didn't take time, they called me and the next day they came in. I would make a try to use them in the future, I would discuss it more with the prices and I would also, before I do, I would try them but before I do I would get sources in terms of their work, you know, how well they do their work and get the reviews and so on before I decide, before I make my decision.
Description of Work: They came in and gave us an estimate. I think the estimate was for plumbing.

It was my second experience with Benjamin Franklin and I wouldn't think of using another plumber. They responded promptly, scheduled my appointment and arrived on time. The service rep was careful to use a tarp to prevent any dirt from tracking on my floors and was professional, polite and patient. I explained my problem and he examined the faucet and patiently explained what might be the problem. After assessing the situation he explained in detail what the problem was and how it could be repaired offering me 3 different solutions in a varied price range from budget friendly to high end. He repaired the problem, stopped the leak and gave me detailed instructions on how to eliminate any mold that had grown around the leak. It's comforting to know there is a plumbing company I can count on and trust. Thank you!! I so wish there were more companies like yours!

He didn't do any work, quoted $800, we asked him to leave as that seemed much too high. He said he would leave as soon as we paid him $75 for showing up. Nowhere in the ad does it state that there would be a fee for showing up. He said he was a master plumber, which it doesn't show in the ad, and that we would have to pay a master plumber price. Be warned that they do not have free estimates.

I found a plummer that fixed issue Flapper for $142. I do not want anything from these people. Just want others to know.!!! Very Uncomfortable expierence. After 30 min I told him he could have fixed the flapper and been on his way But for a reasonable price.
Description of Work: nothing after 30 min he was asked to leave He was on an ipad said he was contacting his company for price This was a laky toilet. He said he may have to take toilet apart. It was the flapper Simple he said it may cost $300 to up to $1000 if he had to take it apart. He also Solicited us to join a Direct Energy Plan (I have brochure) for up to $$388.35 for a plan to save on plumbing. The $75 was to come It was paid and

Making an appointment was easy. Bill was a nice enough plumber, polite and knowledgeable. He came with his own mat and wore booties over his shoes. Honestly the company was a pleasure to work with but I honestly feel I got ripped off. I was charged $1380 for 6 feet of black pipe, a valve and 6 feet of flexible gas line. The job took Bill maybe and hour not including the time he had to wait for parts to be dropped off. I am a new home owner and I feel that I was definitely taken, especially after talking to some people who have had similar work done. Bill also gave me 1200 estimate to purchase and install a slop sink which after this experience I think I will pass on. I would say if you absolutely must have something done right away and don't care about money, use Ben Franklin. Just know that you will be paying PREMIUM for a door mat and disposable booties.

The gentlemen who came was very nice and efficient. He gave us an estimate and arranged to come back at 10 a.m. the next day (Sunday). He arrived with another worker when he said he would and replaced the hot water heater, removed the old heater, reconfigured the pipes, installed the separate water detector and cleaned up everything. He was very pleasant and we had no problems. We also signed up for a 5 year service contract with them where they come by once a year and service the hot water heater. He was very efficient, nice and so far we have had no problems! We weren't sure if the price was high as we hadn't had a hot water heater installed in about 12 years but it was worth it.

I would never recommend them. It was for my elderly parents and they had a backed up toilet, it was a brand new toilet. They charged $250. They tried to tell me that there was something wrong with the flap, it was brand new toilet. It was an elderly couple and I feel like they took advantage of them. The guy that came to the house was pleasant. He said that this was their prices. The guy that showed up was nice to my parents. I would not use them again or recommend them. I could see if there had been a real problem. I was not happy.

The plumber was on time and professional. He made the repair and left the area cleaner than it was at the start.. He also gave me an estimate to replace a pipe in my basement. That job was not an emergency and his price was higher than a previous estimate that I received, so I did not have him do it.

This review comes with a disclaimer. First, I do not know the going rate for plumbing services, so the bill was higher than I expected, but I do not know what a fair price is. Second disclaimer is I was in the emergency plumbing situation, so I did not have time to shop around. Overall, the service was good. Maybe it is me, but the price tag was a bit too steep to my liking, but I understand that it was an emergency and I did not have the luxury of shopping around and get multiple quotes. Pretty much I called because I had a clogged sink that I could not fix myself (and I know how to take pipes apart and force drains). Water started leaking when I did not have any water on, so it was scarey (ended up being my water filter's resevoir draining). So with water flowing and no understanding why, I scheduled the visit which was $70 just for the home visit. The plumber came the next morning right on time. He was extremely punctual and professional. He wore boot covers as he walked around the house. He gave me an estimate for all of the work and I agreed to it all. He gave me an estimate time for his work and began the tasks. He needed to snake the kitchen sink and replace two valves which were leaking. He used copper piping to replace the two valves and when the snake did not work properly on the ktichen sink, he went to the basement and opened the main valve. That is where we learned my true problem. When the plumber opened the main, all the gunk shot out. Even with the sheets he laid down on the carpet, this was a mess! Pretty much, all the gunk solidified in the pipe and no water was able to flow through. He managed to make a dent in it by using a hammer and screw driver to break through (snake failed) so water was finally able to flow. After all was said and done, he was on his hands and knees scrubbing my rug to clean the mess that it made. Also, the quote he supplied never changed. I thought it would have because the simple snaking did not work so he went over and above the call of duty. So that is it in a nutshell. Again, the service and professionalism was top notch. The costs were highter than expected, but I was in an emergency situation. My advice would be shop around and get quotes first. Ben Franklin may be more money, and if you are ok to pay it, you will not be disappointed with the service.

He did a good job as far I can tell, so far, I had no problems with the labor. My problem is that he convinced me to use one of the faucets he carried (yes, well, I know...), so he said it was going to be more expensive but they fully warrantied that one and they don't like to work with Home Depot materials. Either way, I needed to get it fixed right away and that's why I think they took advantage of me. I don't even like the faucet he installed, it looks ok but it's very uncomfortable to use. The counter still get all splashed! Afterwards I look at the invoicde and it doesn't make any sense. I know they are very well known and they give you bs galore, but I'll never fall into that trap again! Almost 1k for a facuet that was obnly dripping, I understand that it had to be replacedm, but there was no other collateral job done or anything, it was just a clean replacement which according to him it'd cost around $350. Does that mean that the faucet costed $600!!! No way! It's a regular faucet that he didn't even left any box or paperwork so I don't even know the brand. But looking it up online it can't cost more than $250. I'm still kicking myself for letting this happen! We had a death in the family that week and I guess I wasn't thinking right. DON'T GET FOOLED!! DO YOUR RESEARCH AND CALL SOMEONE ELSE!!! Even if you waste the visit charge, it's always less than this rip-off!!!

Estimated cost to repair a water pipe valve was around $491!!!! ($417 with a purchase plan that would have cost an addition $350 (approximately). Outrageous. According to the web it should have been about $150. Wasted $39 paid towards repairs as part of the $78 Angie's List special deal for $39 for estimate and $39 for repairs. I would have been down over $250-$300 by using Ben Franklin instead of a independent plumber. Will never use Ben Franklin again.

The plumber came exactly as promised on the same day I called. He was professional, cleaned up after himself and was in our house for approximately 2 1/2 hours. But, the cost was extremely expensive! The faucet for my kitchen was $750 plus $110 for a different color. It cost $500 to replace the kitchen drain assembly. It was $400 to replace the trap on the bathroom sink. If I didn't want to be without a kitchen faucet and we weren't having a snowstorm on the following day, I would have never agreed. If the cost isn't an issue, I would definitely recommend them.

It was the best service call experience I have ever had. He was polite, professional, incredibly helpful and offered to help with anything he saw needed attention. From the moment he walked in with a mat to wipe his feet on to keep the floor clean in hand, I was impressed by his politeness and professionalism. After explaining what he would do and signing the service agreement he got right to work and although access was difficult, both inside the house and out, he repaired the faucet and explained to me how I could prevent it from freezing again because the contractor left a wide gap of space between the faucet and the siding. He was thorough and amazingly helpful. I wouldn't think of using any other plumber, as long as Ryan is the service rep. What a nice young man.
